So I'm deducting stars for a less than pleasant experience after being a very loyal and accommodating customer. I usually go with the flow when alterations are not ready on the date promised and when pricing is on the high end. But it seems just wrong to take advantage of the very customers who patronize you when it's just as easy to do the work themselves. So, as for why I didn't just do it myself when I made others. I've been every deliberate about supporting small local businesses during the quarantine largely because I believe those interactions will help the businesses cover expenses and stay open. I bought fabric to make washable masks for female loved ones who are first responders (pharmacy, medical, supply chain, etc) thinking they'd appreciate a specialty facial covering to wear in their off days once some restrictions are limited --- knowing we'll be wearing these for a while. After learning Maria was open for business and making masks, I decided to give her the business instead. During my visit, she showed me several reversible washable styles she sells for $8. I bought two. After buying 2 @ $8, I mentally prepared to pay something close (or less) to that because she would supply fabric for the back and ear straps. The ones I bought from her for $8 and reversible. Timing was reasonable--- a week to make 16 adult masks and 2 kids. When I returned to pick them up, I was pleased with how they turned out but was shocked by the price! I was charged $10 per mask for a one sided mask. I pointed out the price was higher than what I was charged when she provided fabric. Despite feeling gouged, I paid it not because I wanted to believe she must have needed the $ enough to essentially overcharge a repeat consumer. While the one bad experience will not erase better experiences and quality, I have no plans to bring more work I can do myself or seek anything else without getting the price upfront. read more

I've been coming here for a year and thought they were pricey but had good service. Took all of my work jackets in to be cleaned while I was on vacation so that they were ready when I got back and she said they would be ready on Friday. Came in on Monday to get them and they were very obviously NOT clean. They were the exact same as when I dropped them off (cat hair and coffee stains in the exact same spot). I told her it was clear they were not cleaned and she offered to do them again but I didn't have the time and she still charged me. Save yourself the headache and hassle and do not come here. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I went in to get a dress tailored for my baby shower. I let the woman know I needed it fitted to the chest area. How I wanted it to look and even pulled up a picture from the model wearing it as to how it should lay. I come back to pick it up and it is loose everywhere and she goes on to BLAME ME because I told her not to alter or cut somewhere. Let me preface this my saying I have been tailoring my clothes for over 20 years and my tailor is out of town so I found this place on yelp. If I knew where to cut and or alter there is no need for me to bring my clothes in to a professional to have them fix my clothes. I told her you asked me if I wanted the cloth between my breasts sewn and I said no I would like to leave that area open. In no way does that tell her to not cut, alter or mess with that area. Obviously the chest area is huge I know she's going to have to cut everywhere for it to fit my cup size and she kept cutting me off and saying "No! You told me this, you told me that. This is not my fault, it's yours because you told me not to cut from here" then she goes on to say that she's never had to alter anything more than once and she doesn't do that and will charge me more. I was appalled. Truly. I have never in my life seen such unprofessionalism and horrid customer service. I will be urging all my neighbors and friends who have come here and had similar experiences to post on yelp so people really know what this business is like. Had the lining of my wool overcoat replaced. This work was refused by my normal tailor because he said it would be way too much work. Valenti's quoted me a pretty good price. I was a little skeptical but it was either replace the lining or junk the coat (which I wear all the time in the winter). The lining was replaced by a much more durable fabric AND the inside pockets and labels were all transferred over. Really impressed with the work! read more

I went to Valenti because I live around the corner from them but by far it was very inconvenient and frustrating to work with them. I dropped of about 9 pieces of clothing some where dresses and pants and shirts. When I dropped them off she asked me when would I need them and I told her no rush because I didn't need them right away. With that being said she told me they would be ready on Friday, which was a week away..... I was totally fine with that. However when I showed up on Friday I was told that my clothes weren't ready and to come back the following Tuesday for pick up. At this point I was disappointed but I gave grace because the shop is very close by to me. I come in on that Wednesday (after Tuesday) and only half of my ordered was finished. At this point my time and patience was being taking advantage of. My order wasn't finished until that following Thursday. Almost a week late from the day my order was supposed to be ready. As a busy person I don't have the time to rush to the shop before they close multiple times during the week just to be told that my order isn't ready. Its very inconsiderate. To add to that the price for 9 pieces of clothing to be cleaned was very expensive, and I noticed that there was a hole in one of my blouses that wasn't there before. I brought this to her attention and she tried to say that it was there before I dropped it off. After a few questions she agreed to fix the shirt free of charge.... (which means that I would have to wait God knows when for it to be ready) As for the rest of my items they were clean, however I realized that one of the belts for my wrap dress was missing.... Its to bad that they are so conveniently located, however I will make the drive somewhere else that's more reliable. read more

So, I need to start by saying that I am VERY picky when it comes to getting my pants altered. Every time I go to a tailor, they are clearly annoyed with me because I want things done a certain way. I often want my pants on the longer side (to the very bottom of my shoes, almost touching the ground) and many tailors do not want to do this for me. I regularly get pants back that are hemmed too short. Maria was a different story. She gave me her professional opinion (that they should be shorter), but then altered them to the exact length I requested. She was easy to work with, quick, and patient. I will definitely be returning! PS: She can alter jeans using the original hem, which I love. read more

Took my daughter's sweater here and was so IMPRESSED. I had taken the sweater to another seamstress in Oak Park and was told it wasn't repairable. Maria fixed my daughter's sweated and made it look like new. The exact same thing happened with my son's coat. She fixed the pockets and the repair was not even visible. Wow. I had a horrible experience with Valenti Tailors & Cleaners and dealt with a combination of horrible customer service, lack of payment options, underwhelming alterations, and shady/hidden pricing practices. If you want all the details as to why, keep reading... I had two suit jackets that needed to be altered and saw the great reviews for this place, and since it happened to be close to my house I gave it a try. When I went in to drop my things off, I was measured by a lady (she never gave me a name) and she recommended altering the sleeves and taking in the jackets a bit which I agreed with. She didn't spend much time with me and didn't really do a great job marking off where she measured, so that made me a bit nervous, but I still proceeded and went ahead with letting them provide the service. She took my name and number and said I could pick it up on April 21st (close to two weeks after I brought it in!) and didn't give me any options with regard to how soon I could pick it up. I thought this was a long time, but I agreed since I needed the alterations by the end of the month. She then took my jackets to the back and said "I can't really say how much it will be, but they'll let you know when it's done." Again, this just didn't feel right not getting a price or quote of any kind up front, but I wasn't too concerned about the price necessarily and I assumed the total cost would be somewhere between $50 and $100 for the service. Fast forward to today, and I called to see if my suit jackets were ready (they were supposed to be ready after 5 p.m. today but I wasn't able to get there later). The lady couldn't find my name or phone number in the system! After going to the back to check for my items twice, she said "maybe you're confused and you dropped your clothes off at another place or something..." I told her that I'm coming up there and she needs to make an effort to find my things, because she's leaving a horrible impression for a first time customer. She then said that she saw I was there in 2015, to which I replied that couldn't be because I never even heard of the place before a couple of weeks ago. I came through the door and it was me and the lady face-to-face again, and she just stared at me for a couple of seconds and mumbled "can I help you?" I said yes, I'm the guy who just called about his suit jackets and you couldn't find them. She asked for my phone number again and after providing that, she goes into the back and yells out "what did you say you have sir? 3 jackets!?" in a shrill voice. I said nothing because I assumed she was speaking to someone else. She then comes to me and asks me how many jackets I have, and I said two...One is black and the other is gray...She eventually finds it and says "$75" without making eye contact. I then tried to pay with my American Express which she said they don't accept (even though they have signs outside their door and at the register advertising that they do), so I gave her $80 in $20 bills, and she takes a wrinkled $5 bill out of the register and throws it on the counter and says "have a nice day" in a sarcastic tone, and walks away. Luckily the suits weren't destroyed and they fit well enough. She also misspelled my last name (which is VERY COMMON and easy to spell) which may have lead to some of this confusion, but everything was handled poorly. I would recommend that anyone who wants to be treated like a customer and not an annoyance not bother with this place! read more

However, even though the owner told me my jeans would be finished on three separate occasions, I had to come back 3 times before it was finished. Maria is amazing. I accidentally bought a men's sweater, which turned out to be about 4 inches too long and she shortened it perfectly. She is personable, fairly priced for the quality of work she does, honest about what she can do, and on time. I don't take my tailoring anywhere else! Definitely the best in the area. read more

I am very disappointed with this place after I been tailoring my clothes here for some time. I came here to get a zipper replaced for a TARGET skirt for my niece. I should of checked her work after but I kept the clothes in the plastic for a few months. When my niece and I checked her clothes for a fitting, the zipper broke immediately and it was a GAP zipper. I took it in the day after she tried it on and the girl said it was my niece's fault it broke and said it was a brand new zipper. I questioned the zipper since it had the GAP name on the zipper and she just said that it was my niece's fault it was broken and that it was a new zipper. The woman who owns this place is very kind and i haven't had problems with her other work but this rubbed me the wrong way and I choose to not do business with someone like this. She is quite expensive so i'm sure I can find another local place to support. read more
