This two star is solely for the burritos. Which I think everyone loves and its a problem that my coworkers and I hate. So, let's get this out of the way first. Service is awesome, food is good, salsa bar is great. $2.50 breakfast burrito before 11 AM? The best option for practically everyone who works in the ocean ranch/del pro area. But.... And here is the problem which merits the two stars.. The $2.50 is supposed to be a bit smaller than a normal sized, full priced burrito. So you're hungry and decide to get the full priced one and you pay $4 and it comes out just the same size as the $2.50. So..... What happened. Why bother getting a bigger one I guess when you should just buy two "smalls". Today, it's literally sitting in front of me because it's so ridiculous, I paid $5.13 for a carne asana burrito that is just as big as a "small" $2.50. Compared to everywhere else in Oceanside, when you pay $5.13 for a burrito that's just salsa, guacamole and some asana you would expect it to be a nice, hefty burrito.... And it's not. It's ridiculous. I love this place, but what the f**k. Do I really have to go somewhere else to get a normal sized burrito for the price when I love this place so much and it's just up the block? Step the burrito game up, Valerie's. Word spreads through the workplace now everyone notices how small they are compared to everywhere else so we go to El Bronco on college or ALLLLLLL the way down to Alberto's on Oceanside Blvd almost near the 5. We're staying at a local hotel, and I was excited to see a taco place nearby. I looked for Valerie's Taco Shop on yelp, but apparently it's the continuation of an existing business called Roberto's Taco Shop. My husband went by and checked it out and sent me a picture of their salsa bar. For me, a salsa bar automatically makes me a fan, generally. He also brought me a menu so I could see what they have to offer before walking over. I ordered a hard chicken taco, and rice and beans. The rice and beans were solid, especially with the hot salsa. The taco was very greasy, but the shredded chicken was all white meat so that is also a plus. I would definitely return to try other dishes if I was in the area. read more

Normally when I go to Valerie's for food, it's a late night convenient stop with tasty and filling food. Tonight changed that. I ordered a bean and rice burrito with sour cream and pico de gallo, and when I was a quarter of the way through it I bit into a rock. An actual rock, as you can see in the pictures I attached. I would rate them a zero if possible. This was an unacceptable instance of unsanitary food practices. And to top it all off, the cashier was unfriendly and seemed annoyed and bothered by my taking a few extra minutes to order, when there were no other customers present. read more

Being a SoCal native, I've tried many many Mexican food spots from North County to South San Diego...this place tops the charts for small- hole in the wall type taco shops, and is FAR from a hole-in-the wall! Cleanliness? A+ This place tops the charts in terms of clean Mexican spots! Food? A Try any of their salads! SO delicious! I'm especially a fan of the Chicken salad, the portions are huge too with fresh ingredients! Salad has the most amazing mexican cheese, tomatoes and all the goodies you could want on it. Try the Cali Burrito, to die for and excellent (and Juicy) Carne...Oh and great salsa bar! Many many selections and I always leave with a bag of those yummy carrots! Service? Used to go to this place on the regular. They started jacking up their prices (inflation I get it) but they weren't updating their posted prices. I complained to the staff who told me that "the boss" hasn't changed them yet. Over a month later and the prices had gone up again but still were not changed on the menu and they added a surcharge to my card purchase without telling me or having any sign posted. Decent food, but the portions were inconsistent based upon who was cooking, and because of poor business practices, I won't be back. Also, they say the bathroom is out of order but only do so because they don't want their customers using it. If you don't like your customers, they will leave...I'm out. read more

This started life a few years ago as a Roberto's, and it was good from the very start. Last year, though, the operator transferred this location to a new owner, who renamed it Valierie's - and it's even better than before! The new staff is super friendly, the restaurant always clean, and the food has improved over what was already some pretty great Mexican chow. My favorite lately has been the Flautas, which are really more like a plate of much thinner, very crisp Chimichangas, covered with guacamole and sour cream. Truly excellent! Staff is cool, one lady that works here is super funny. Prices are reasonable. Only gripe is the food isn't great. Carne asada often has chunks of fat (yuck!). Beans taste like crap. DO NOT GO HERE!! They have messed up my order twice. I believe in second chances, but twice is not acceptable. Then she argued about how I ordered it wrong. I am pretty sure I know how I order my food, since it's the same thing I order all the time. This is horrible customer service! And it's the same lady. Language Barrier? Edit: Spoke with Steve the Owner. He was able to make me feel better, re-assure me that this situation would not happen again, and will be speaking with the employee whom seems to have an issue with attitude and taking improper orders. This has been probably the worst customer experience I have ever had in my life. By far disgusted with the customer service...I dont even have words on how poorly they have selected this specific employee. I am giving a one start to this restaurant due to this. She went to the back and made it, then just threw it on the counter said it was ready and went back to the back of the restaurant. Please note there were no other customers waiting for food. I open my food and it was just fries with cheese. She said my guacamole was in the bag. I paid for the extra guacamole. I RATHER not argue with people who think the customer is wrong and have a disgusting attitude. I send an email directly to the owners. 2nd time dealing with this employee and last time I will be coming here October 5th 2017. This same woman confronted me asking if I was the one who had send the complaint to her boss with the pictures. I told her yes...she went on and on while she had customers in line. Threw my change on the counter and told me I could grab my own drink. I stood there with such disbelief. I asked her for my cup that I purchased so I could grab salsa. She gave it to me and assisted the next customer. While serving myself hot sauce she started to tell me "do you really think that the owner is going to pick you over me" I let her know that she was arguing about a complaint submitted almost a month ago and if she recognize me this was a second chance to show me her customer service was not bad. How petty can a person be to argue with a customer about a complaint submitted? I absolutely hope this owner picks his business over the person providing the worst customer service ever. read more

This place has great food! I don't mind paying a couple extra dollars because it's not your typical chain taco shop.
