    Grilled Fish burrito

I wish this Valerie's was close to my home. The Valerie's (170 Emerald Dr, Vista, CA 92083) close to my home does not grill their fish. I will drive the extra miles to this delicious Valerie's. Yes the cooks are better!

This was my first time at Valerie's and I was pleasantly surprised. I got the california burrito, which was loaded with carne asada and fries. I loved how the tortilla had a nice char on it from the grill, and the salsas were solid. Also, service was extremely efficient. Will definitely be coming back to try more!

Stopped here after my prenatal appointment and had the best Chicken flautas and Horchata! Service was excellent and very friendly! Delicious and authentic!

It gets busy at lunch time, so you know, but it goes pretty fast. We loved the mahi mahi fish tacos! Huge portion of fish, crispy, not too greasy. We also tried the flautas which were good, big portion as well.

So disgusted and in shock. There was a dead fly in my California burrito. Definitely will never be going here or to any other Valerie's location again.

It is wonderful to support a local establishment that truly cares about the food they serve and the community they are part of. Thank you for providing such a fantastic dining experience. They have the best molcajete and fajitas around, at the best prices. We are here just to see if Cocina Del Mar is better. Long story short: it's not. However, their ceviche is AMAZING. Best ceviche I have had in north county San Diego outside of Dija Mara (which has the best ceviche in the known universe). It is extremely fresh and not overpowered by acidity, fishy smells or rubbery shrimp. The ceviche here is legit. Great. AND ONLY $10 (for cameron). If you order anything here, get the ceviche first. I'm anxious to try their aguachile now. We also ordered the fajitas ("suprema" with chicken, steak and shrimp). Fajitas did not come out sizzling at all. I have never seen this before. Also, there were only two shrimp. The steak/carne was bland and dry. Not great. Wife ordered the Sopes (3) and mother ordered the Enchiladas Cameron. The sopes were okay, but a bit bland. Wife had to salt everything on the plate. The enchiladas had a sauce my mom said was too sweet. She wasn't a fan. For all three dishes to be a miss is completely strange considering the sheer number of 5-star reviews. I want to believe. We must have come on an off-day, but the place was busy. Quite a few larger parties were here, so this place is popular with the natives. We also grabbed a Model and a Corona. Only $5 for the beers! Total for everything came to $117.64 (with tip). I would absolutely come back for the ceviche and to give them another shot by trying a different dish. I snapped pics of the menu so you can see the latest prices. Check it out.

It's a true family-style operation--one owner personally takes your order while the other is in the kitchen cooking everything fresh, and you can taste that attention to detail in every bite. The food is outstanding--full of flavor, generous portions, and very reasonably priced. It's the kind of place where you know you're getting authentic, homemade quality, not something rushed or generic. On top of that, the service is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant itself is clean and well-kept. It's rare to find a spot that checks all the boxes like this. If you're anywhere nearby and even thinking about Mexican food--do yourself a favor and come try Mi Asador. You'll be glad you did!

Since then we've been visiting other burrito places, but decided to give them another shot. We were pleasantly surprised to see things were "back to normal". Burritos were big again and the salsa bar was back. Chips were no longer free (I remember they used to be a long time ago), but no biggie. We were just picked up to-go. The burritos were good. Not great, necessarily, but good and the prices are some of the best around. They have a ton of options, and lots of drinks, including beer. We were just picking up, and it was a very hot day. The restaurant didn't have any air-conditioning so it was quite warm inside. Most people were eating outside. We'll be back again to try some other menu items given that their prices are generally pretty good.

This is by far one of my favorite places for Mexican food in SoCal. As a Cali Native now living in…read morethe great state of Texas, sometimes it's refreshing to step outside the land of Tex‑Mex and get the real deal again. Colima's hits that spot every single time. When you walk in, the person behind the counter greets you immediately -- and not the dry "hi, what can I get you?" type of greeting. You get a full "¡Buenos días, mija!" with that warm, almost‑grito energy that makes you feel like you just walked into your tío's spot instead of a restaurant. Super friendly, super natural, and very SoCal. I ordered the rolled tacos plate and wow... esa porción estaba gigante. I couldn't finish it. What I loved most was the meat; this is what meat is supposed to taste like. The beef was seasoned the way we grew up eating it: a little salty, a little savory, with that slow‑cooked tenderness that lets you know it didn't come from some pre‑bagged, mystery‑meat situation. You get hints of garlic, a little cumin, and that warm, almost toasty flavor that comes from meat that's actually been browned, not steamed. It tasted like someone's abuela was in the back saying, "No, no, déjalo dorar un poquito más. And the corn tortillas? Perfect. Thin enough to get that crisp roll, thick enough not to shatter. None of that flour‑tortilla‑trying‑to‑be‑crispy nonsense. These were crunchy, flavorful, and loaded. The toppings were just as good. The guacamole tasted fresh. You could taste the real avocado which was creamy, a little chunky, with lime that actually tasted like lime and not concentrate. The red salsa had a legit kick to it. It had hints of roasted chiles, was smoky and had a slightly bitter edge that tells you they actually roasted them instead of just tossing raw peppers into a blender. It wasn't tourist spicy; it was SoCal Mexican‑restaurant spicy, which is a whole different category. My partner ordered a breakfast burrito and honestly? That thing could've fed three people. It was massive, stuffed to the brim with cheese, egg, potatoes, and fresh bacon and exactly what a SoCal breakfast burrito should be: simple, hearty, and no shortcuts. Between the portions, the flavor, and the service that feels like home, this spot stays on my list every time I'm in Oceanside. If you're craving real Mexican food and not Tex‑Mex, pull up. You'll leave full and happy. #supportlocal
