We visited seven different places, tasted different tacos and aqua fresca, visited a tortillaria and learned how they were made, and went to a local food market. Our guide, Abel, was super friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. From start to finish it was almost 4 hours. We walked around parts of PV I had never been to and he pointed out architecture and told stories. Worth every penny. And they're not kidding--come hungry! read more

Still an excellent day out!!! We did the Signature Taco Tour about 5 years ago and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We decided to do it again on this trip to reacquaint ourselves with the wonderful taco stands we enjoyed before. We were not disappointed. Roman was our guide and he was both engaging and informative. You will visit and enjoy tacos from about 5-6 stands as your guide will explain the various types of yummy tacos your consuming. One of my favorite is the stand: Tacos De Birria (I dream of these tacos) They dip the tortillas into Birria broth and grill them before filling them with the meat of your choice. Sooo good. The other stand that we loved was Marisma fish taco stand. You will also stop at one of the local tortilla shop and learn how fresh corn tortillas are made and visit a market where Roman showed us the various spices and chilies that go into making lots of the regional food. We also sampled each stand's Aqua de Fresca (water flavored with fruit) such as guava, tamarind and a fermented rice drink called Tuba. In my travels in Mexico I find that PV has the best street taco stands. So if your unsure of eating at many of the stands in PV this is the perfect tour to sample the local family recipes. I highly suggest you book your tour on one of the first days your in town so you can go back and enjoy them again in your visit (as we did a few times). read more

During the Untouristed Taco Tour, Able did a wonderful job providing background about each food stop as well as some interesting historical facts about the neighborhoods. Also really enjoyed seeing how Tortillas are mechanically made at high volume at a neighborhood bakery. Able also took a number of photos during the tour that could later be downloaded on a complimentary basis. The Tour required walking about 2 miles and you need to wear comfortable shoes and be careful walking on the sidewalks and cobblestone pavement. read more

Signature Tour was a wonderful tour in vibrant Old Town Vallarta! Delicious food (LOTS, come empty) and an amazing neighborhood. The broth at the Birria stand was just incredible! We had an awesome time on the Tacos After Dark tour! Manuel did an awesome job personalizing things and truly cared about making sure we had the best experience possible. It's clear he loves the job of guide and has fun doing it! Eric the owner was very helpful in coordinating the booking and gave us many other recommendations that were all spot on. After the one tour I wish we had time to go on all of them because I'm sure they'd all be excellent. On our last day he offered to hold our luggage at the office since we had a late flight and our hotel was a ways from town. Our tour guide Manny was extremely informative and very knowledge about the history of Puerto Vallarta and where to get the best food. He even joined us for drinks afterwards! We had so many different types of tacos and lots of different aguas frescas. We also got to walk all over old town Puerto Vallarta and it's beautiful streets so bring good walking shoes, be camera ready, and come willing to experience all the different flavors. Estrella is a gem! She is passionate about food and Puerto Vallarta and her passion comes through as she gives her tour of the city. My husband and I arrived at 10 am and were prepared for anything. We consider ourselves foodies and were excited to try whatever Estrella or Star, as she had us call her, had in store for us. We were not disappointed! The taco stands that she chose were all delicious and family owned. Each stop was even more delicious than the next. We had fish tacos, ceviche, birria, shrimp tacos and on and on. Pace yourself! One of my favorite parts of the tours was the aguas frescas. They were delicious, refreshing. It was a hot and humid day and Star chose some delightful aguas frescas to cool us down. This was the best thing I did at PV. Seriously. Do the morning tour the first chance you get when you arrive at PV. It will dictate your eating habits for the rest of the trip. My only regret was that we had planned all these excursions and didn't get to this tour until right before we were about to leave for the airport. They actually have an office where they stored our bags while we went on the tour, and called a cab for us when we were done. Our guide was Daniela. As some of the other reviews here have indicated, she is amazing. She is classy, sweet, knowledgable. I cannot say enough good things about her and the people I've interacted with with this company. They offer many different tours including a full dining tour as well as a night taco tour. If I had more time, I would have tried all their tours given the quality of the one I went on. For our tour, we tried 10 taco places, ending with two specific dessert spots and a sampling of maybe a dozen different desserts and flavors. It's really amazing. We had pozole soup, all types of tacos. The families that own these taco trucks go back generations and have secret recipes. I really got to appreciate the taco process and what made each type and flavor unique. In the end, this was not only a taco tour. It was a full introduction to cuisine. We made a stop at a butcher shop, ceviche place, a bread-making place, tortilla making place. The tacos were complemented by horchata, juice, and even coca cola! It's a really fun, diverse tour where you get to see Zona Romantica, full of cobblestone streets. It's off the beaten path, but still well within the realm of romance and indulgence. I did the signature Taco and More Tour from Vallarta Eats. I found it very informative and learned about Mexican Culture and tried a variety of foods that locals eat. The adventure took over three hours and we visited over ten spots. You do have to pace yourself and come hungry all the food together equals one big meal. We tried a variety of tacos, saw local produce that was new to me. meat shop, bakery, a frozen pop store, a candy store, and a tortilla factory and learned the importance of the tortilla here. Our tour guild Memo made us all feel as comfortable as possible providing us with water and frozen towels to cool us off and also warned us about the uneven walk ways as he walked backwards sometimes to watch us to make sure nobody fell anywhere. ATTENTION: This tour (and review) is probably nacho type if you're looking for a stuffy, fine wine-and-dine sit-down experience. And if you have a weak stomach for puns, this might get a little guac-ward. However - if you're looking for a mexcellent opportunity to hit up all the spots the locals know about, look no further. Vallarta Eats Food Tours pairs groups up with a local bilingual tour guide who will help guide you through the MAIZE of taco stands, ice cream shops, and so much more. We were in town for a wedding and staying in Nuevo Vallarta and accidentally looked up directions to the wrong restaurant (who would have thought there would be two French bistros in Puerto Vallarta?). Make sure you read the directions to the meeting place closely! Instead of panicking, we made Juan quick call to Eric, the number listed on the email who quickly coordinated with our tour guide Manuel on where the first and second food stops were going to be. Even though we were still 45 minutes out and ended up being 15 minutes late, we managed to connect at the first stop on time and hit up all ten spots. The food included authentic tacos, quesadillas, and ice cream and sweets made by locals for locals - not watered down or jumbo sized versions for American tourists. Think of it as a ten course meal over the span of three to four hours with intermittent walking to free up space as you go. Lettuce cut to the chase though. While the food was great, it really was the experience that made us bean with glee. We were lucky enough to get an intimate tour (four people to one tour guide) that buffered us from the incessant salesmen looking to sell you a jetski, ATV, or paragliding tour. Manuel (our guide) was friendly with all the taco and food vendors and everyone was extremely receptive to have our presence. From what I understand, Vallarta Eats Food Tours reimburses whatever you eat/drink (so chow down) and infuses tourism money into the local economy. It feels good to know the vendors and the tour company have a symbiotic relationship with each other and your money and a 150% tip (sometimes just a $1-2/person) is going further support the hard workers and their families - not pad the pockets of the super rich and wealthy. So enough with the feel-good story and CORNY taco puns as I'm sure that's not what you came here for. Don't burrito round the bush - and book your tour! read more

This is one of my favorite activities in PV! Our family of 4 has done the morning tour once and the after dark tour twice - it's difficult to decide which we like more. They aren't kidding when when they say to come hungry. My best advice would be to pace yourself and come during the beginning of your stay in PV. Abel was our guide on the tour on our most recent tour and he was great. He's like a PV consultant too - whatever questions you have about local life, restaurants, riding the bus, other activities, he's happy to discuss. He gave us a fabulous restaurant recommendation that made me want to try Vallarta Eats' restaurant tour. Even though we have returned to many of the taco stands (and the churro stand) by ourselves after the tour, it's still nicer and infinitely more relaxing to be on the tour and have your hand held by the guide. No map navigating, no fumbling around in foreign current currency or Spanglish. We also always meet great people on the tour and it's fun comparing travel notes with them. We stayed in Sayulita but made a one day trip to Old Town Puerto Vallarta given the rave reviews of this food tour by a close friend. It was everything and more! Daniela was our guide and was absolutely amazing. Bilingual, knew the taco stands and owners by first name, introduced the group to both amazing eats as well as local culture, and all the while reassuring the out-of-towners of food safety. The local taco stands chosen were fabulous and we ate so much we couldn't even finish! The tour ended with a dessert stop and included a quick trip to a tortilla factory. Fabulous experience. We went on the untouristed taco tour after meeting Eric at Starbucks with his cute dogs. We got to chatting and talked about life in PVR vs. the US, what we do, and restaurants around town. Eric gave us his card, and we researched his tours and decided to take one. It was fabulous! Manny was an excellent guide and took us to local eateries where he gave us the background, and we tried the fare. Barbacoa, cabeza, carnitas, carne asada, ceviche and pescado. We also visited the beautiful cemetery, markets, and a pottery shop. Even after all that food, we still found room for delicious hand made icecream! Great fun tour. Eric has really created a fun and interesting food tour thing here. If you are a foodie or just looking to try some things you haven't had before, this is the place you want to look. There are SO many restaurants and food stands in Puerto Vallarta that it would be incredibly hard to select the best or most worthy spots while visiting...unless you connect with Vallarta Eats and go on a tour with Eric or someone on his knowledgeable staff team. We loved touring around and eating tacos with Manuel (Mani) on our first visit to this gem of a town. He was down to earth, friendly, smart, spoke both english and spanish as good as anyone, engaged with all the guests on our tour, and even treated us to special things along the way. What a great guy! Having a tour guide that feels like a buddy by the end is something that's so special. Eric has clearly hand picked each and every member of his team and it shows. He really is a social king/food guru! I wish I could hang out with Eric and Manuel every weekend! This is a very professional company from what I can see and deserves all the recognition that you see online. Some things to remember before and leading up to your tour: -do not eat anything before you start your tour (they feed you SOOO much, they aren't lying) -wear comfy shoes because you are walking and it's so worth it...don't let your feet get in the way -don't be afraid to grab a drink or something extra along the way even if it isn't directly on the tour stop list. I just had a tour with Pac. She was so informative and kind. What an angel. Then there was the food. Three amazing restaurants with 3 to 4 courses at each. All perfect in there own way with fantastic drinks at each! Then dessert at the 4th restaurant on the beach. I will be doing these tours everywhere I go from now on. We took a shuttle from the ship and then walked to the meeting point on Insurgentes bridge where our wonderful guide Manny was waiting for us. Manny walked us around Old PV, stopping at spots that we would normally have passed by! Every taco stand or restaurant had their specialty and every taco we tried was absolutely delicious. A foodie's dream! We went on the Tasting Vallarta tour and loved every minute!! The food and drinks were absolutely fantastic (smoked marlin, plantain empanada, hibiscus margaritas, and sooo much more).
