Great place to buy garbage produce. It's seems that their produce is incredibly low quality and overpriced. I naught cucumbers and they were all wilted and damaged. Same with bananas and apples. On top of it, I ordered some octopus from their "fresh" seafood section and by the time I got to the register to pay for it the rotten smell of the "fresh" octopus was so bad that I had to throw it away. read more

This was my first time walking into a Latino grocery store and boy was I pleasantly surprised at the wide array and quality of food items. It's like a regular Vons/Ralph's but with all the Mexican food items I grew up with. It's large, clean and organized. The quality of the of the prepared foods is restaurant quality. Also love that you can get piñatas in a pinch. The only thing I have not purchased is from their butcher shop as I get my meat delivered from McCalls. read more

My favorite Hispanic supermarket in town. This new Vallarta is extremely clean throughout the store and well decorated everywhere. This used to be an old Vons but I truly appreciate the upgrade in this addition to the community. Super convenient in having a delicious food court (quesadillas, salsa bar, agua frescas, fresh daily tortilleria, paletas were highlights), Wells Fargo bank, and now even a new pharmacy! Definitely one stop shop that makes running errands so much easier. The pharmacy is called Grove Pharmacy and sells even some Hispanic products to try. Will be coming back soon! read more

My favorite location is Vallarta in Woodland Hills. This location has been renovated, but the parking lot is very busy. Produce is fresh and staff is ways nice. My only complaint about this location is that their juice bar closes an hour earlier than their market does. read more

I keep getting requests to ask specifically what happened so here it is: I just moved to the Pasadena area and I live close to Vallarta. The very first time I went in, the security guard followed me. Each time I was at the store, and he was there, he followed me. I go down one aisle, he would casually walk down that same aisle a few seconds later. This went on for several weeks. It wasn't until one day I was with my son, and the same security guard pulled the exact stunt, I decided I will never shop there again. I called my bank to get a refund of my purchases (which wasn't a lot to begin with), and I wanted to file a criminal complaint against the grocery store, but they would not tell me the security guard's name, because they said it was a third-party company who did the hiring. I personally don't believe any of that; I just think they didn't want a mess. But it's okay. If I can't fight them legally, I'll do it through here. I hope to warn all black customers to stay away from this store if they can help it. I hope my review helps someone. ETA: not changing my review or my opinion about what happened. PERIODT. read more

There was a lot of hype surrounding this market coming into Pasadena. Visiting the store, I now understand it. They have a bakery that does traditional cakes as well as specialty (chocoflan, tres leches), hot food to go (every Latin food you can imagine), a fresh juice bar (made upon order or purchase what's available), and fresh made ice cream. I have also been here on occasion when they have a guacamole bar set up and make it fresh to order. There is a typical meat counter, and deli. Customer service has always been wonderful when I have gone into the market and I have no complaints on cleanliness or organization. The list above are all the pros of the market. The cons are that prices are a bit high unless you go for specific advertised sales. Also, the parking lot can get a bit hectic when busy. read more

I had the Costillas de Puerco and Mole de Pollo plates from the hot foods buffet. Both had excellent flavor but unfortunately the meat was getting tough and overcooked from being on the steam table too long. I got my order around noon and I found out the food is ready at 7AM, so you just have to try to come early or order when the fresh trays come out. read more

Was planning on buying food here to cater our post Christmas holiday for 40 people. Pozole and tamales but after my visit....nope. I'll keep searching. Came here to get soup early in the morning since I wasn't going to have the time to go out for lunch later. When I took it out later to eat I pulled out 2 Huge bones with the ratio of 90% fat and 10% pork then one solid cube of very tough pork. And on more cube of only fat. Then I poured some broth over the only meat that was offered and no hominy came out. I had to scoop the hominy out and there were only 14 tiny pieces! Only accompanied with cabbage. This is disgraceful. If you don't have the proper ingredients to serve it, don't serve it at all. read more

The only reason I still come to this place is for their deli and bakery section. They have a variety of Latin food available at whatever portion you prefer to grab. Most of the staff are friendly. The lines are usually long, especially during 11-2pm. The cashiers appear to be new and scan each item very slowly, possibly afraid to make a mistake. There is parking available but it is always very packed. Some of the items are over priced and have found them cheaper at a Ralph's/Vons. read more

I went 1 week after their Grand Opening. When I walked in, the first thing that hit me was the smell of rotten meat. Note to self - don't buy the meat. Went to the produce department and some of the produce had listings of "product of Mexico and USA". It was so clean and for the most part everyone working there were friendly. The cashier that helped up was really nice, talkative which I like. Vallarta is still fairly busy these days, but they've done an awesome job of enforcing masks and social distancing while I've been in (twice over the last six weeks, most recently this past weekend). They have signs all over the store and regularly make announcements stating their policy. This is a popular grocery store in Pasadena, so I'd suggest going at off hours (weekday mornings and evenings) if at all possible. Parking is easy in their lot and their staff is so nice! We usually go here for produce, pantry staples, beer, and tequila. read more

The best place to find epazote, multiple kinds of tomatillos, Mexican cheeses, fresh tortillas, crema, Mexican sodas, and so much more ... big (I think the space used to be an Albertsons), clean, and well organized. This market is a few miles from my home. I went in and it was neat and clean. I am rating it three stars because of the inventory was low and not enough staff working to take care of customers. With social distance the lines were very long in self check out and in the fresh juice counter. I put my groceries back and got a juice. And then when I ordered a juice the were out of apples and low on everything. This was very disappointing because you can see the produce from the line. Not a good look. read more

Great selection of everything! Meat, salsas, fresh fruits and vegetables! I frequent this store often. HOWEVER!!!! Social distancing is NOT PRACTICED OR ENFORCED!!! You pack your own stuff, which is fine. But the next persons is up in your business immediately and the checker(s) allow it! I am appalled! Until they get better practices, especially in this current uptick in cases, I will not be back. Sad I am as their store is well stocked etc. But they must get serious of this situation!! read more

I was in town visiting and decided to come here for some Mexican treats. I absolutely fell in love with the grocery store! It's like Whole Foods but for Mexican food! There's ready made food to purchase (salad bar style) You can also get carnitas, chicken, ceviche etc! They also have Mexican paletas and juices! Oh and a tortilleria, if you don't know what that means, just think fresh tortillas from scratch! Everything was super clean and organized. I believe that this location and its staff are discriminatory. I have had this feeling before in the past when I ordered food from the hot deli. I had ordered Menudo but when I received it, there was only liquid (sopa) but no tripe at all! When I returned it, they didn't offer to fix this but offered something else and that something else was fried chicken! Just yesterday, I was in the store and there was a variety of hot foods but I didn't see any soups out (like other grocery stores) . When I asked about it, the employee pretended like she didn't understand my English, so I repeated in Spanish, twice. Rosalba pretended like she didn't understand the word Sopa! (Another employee that I approached before Rosalba did the same but I didn't get her name). I did report this to the customer service supervisor (who does speak Spanish also). I repeated my concerns to her and she agreed that my pronunciation was fine/good and, yes it was understandable and they should have understood, therefore i know that this was racially motivated (including the time they offered me 'fried chicken'. I didn't appreciate the 'chicken' offer and I didn't appreciate the Soup/Sopa incident yesterday. I won't be returning there or to any establishment that will accept my green dollars but yet show me blatant disrespect! Bye! read more

Came here today, and was really amazed at all their variety and stock. Especially during this very intense time. Everywhere else I went was a wreck but Vallarta really has it put together. I even over heard talks about new shipments at 3, when everyone else is back ordered even amazon. Very impressed by this store. One of my absolute favorite supermarkets. I was out of town when it first opened so I missed the opening craziness, but I heard only good things from my family and was excited to check it out. Walking in was like stepping into wonderland: the colors and booths were so hip and inviting. It feels really fresh and fun! They have a great selection, especially of Latin American foods, and it's all well organized and well displayed. The various sections of the market are well differentiated and the workers behind the counters are always so nice and helpful. The prices are fair as well. And the fresh food and drink and dessert is usually pretty tasty (however beans and rice are overpriced for what they are). Somehow, it's tough to find parking at any point of the day, but that's probably a testament to how solid of a market it is. read more

Mom: "They have Korean Pears on sale! Where is this place?" Me: "It's in Pasadena. Sure, let's check it out!" Parking: Large parking lot, but it does get packed quick. If you can come on the weekdays, you have a better chance of finding parking easily. My Mom was checking out their mailers, and came across the Korean Pears on sale, which prompt us to coming here. She was getting ready to honor my Dad's final 49 Days of Mourning, and wanted to honor his altar with some Korean Pears, and since I had never heard of this market before, and so hey, let's check it out! This used to be a VONS store, and now it's Vallarta Supermarket. Coming into this store, I was blown away at how bright, clean and spacious this place was. The Cocina and Panaderia sections immediately drew my attention, and I was getting hungry, lol! Luckily, I came across Andres (cool and sweet guy), who was handing out Tres Leches Cake samples, and that eased my tummy, yay! Every section of the store was well-stocked and organized. They have a good assortments of Latin American foods and products. Also, the staff here are nice and friendly. Sadly, we only had time to visit half of the supermarket since we had other errands to run. However, the sections that we were in: Fruits and Produce Sections: Well-stocked, organized nicely with assorted fresh fruits and veggies. Even though we came for the Korean Pears, they were already too ripe and getting kinda mushy, and so Mom ended up buying mangoes and oranges instead (Cara Cara and Navel). As for me, I saw the Apple Cider Vinegar on sale for $4.99 and scooped up two bottles, score! Overall, we'll definitely come back, there's still so much to check out! read more

Love the ceviche bar here ! They always have good deals on booze and the tortillas/chips are made in house! We haven't done much shopping here other than to get some pre-marinated meat to grill so I can really comment on the produce or customer service, but if your craving ceviche...they have a whole plethora of different types that are worth a try. read more

I came into this store after not coming for some time. The visit was pleasant until I ran into an issue. There was an item I wanted to purchase that was being advertised for $2.99 however was actually for $11.99. Normal store courtesy will honor the advertised price if there are 5 or more items that are being advertised. In my case, there were approximately 6 bags of the item I wanted to purchase. I brought this to the attention of the self checkout cashier, she seemed unsure of what to do. She then spoke to another woman (who seemed to be a superior) she came to my aid asking me what the price rang up initially, I told her $11.99 but advertised for $2.99, she then went to get the manager, Alex without telling me she was going to get her superior. After I am observing them now discussing the situation to one another, he came to me, did not allow me to speak and stated that he would not honor the price for me despite over 5 items being advertised for $2.99. I continued reiterating that any other store would honor this, his response was "with the outbreak we are just putting items on the shelves because people are picking them up, I actually helped put that item where it was, I won't be able to honor it". I showed him the picture that i have attached, and he states "you see the pizza rolls there, we were just throwing them in there, I won't honor it". What's bothersome is I understand what is occurring in our society is unfathomable. I respect everyone and their duties which is why I ultimately let it go and left without paying full price for the item. However, in this situation it bothered me that the manager, ALEX, decided he wanted to use COVID-19 as an excuse to not honoring me this item. Even more so, being African American and seeing as though I was being treated like I was attempting to "scam" them made me even more upset because I was following store protocol that should have been taken more seriously here at Vallarta. In short, poor customer service. It's definitely disheartening and Alex needs better training on cultural competency and communication to properly execute his roll as a manager. read more

Finally checked this place out because my coworkers rave about their food and it lived up to the hype. I think it's newly renovated because the space was huuuuuge. The food area reminded me of a Hispanic Whole Foods. There's a cold food bar, soup bar, hot food area, sushi area (where they were also giving out sample sushi pieces whaaattttttttt), and of course an Agua Fresca bar. They have tacos, burritos, tortas, quesadillas, rotisserie chicken by the bird, rotisserie chicken tacos, you name it they got it. I got two carne asada tacos & a strawberry agua fresca for ~$8. Everyone seems to be a fan of the lemonade agua fresca but I tried a sample of it and wasn't a fan. I usually opt for the watermelon but went with strawbs this time. This place is also a supermarket and has everything you could need. I definitely need to come back and buy some ingredients for at-home elotes & cerveza! read more

I moved to Pasadena 6 years ago and had been shopping at the old Vons. I really disliked that store. When I heard they were opening a Vallarta I was very excited. I had shopped at their Palmdale stores for many years. The wait for this store was worth it. Yes, the first day was a little crazy but expected. Everyone was excited for this opening. since then parking has gotten better and the lines are short. They have plenty of registers to help keep the lines moving fast. So what is there to love about this store. One, I have been to many of their stores and this one is among the biggest and has the best decor. I love that they added the Pasadena rose to the decor. They have a variety of foods already made. From chicken albondiga soup, burritos, tacos, tamales, chicken, beef, soups, ceviche and much more. They even have a sushi chef! How awesome is that. So far I have tried the albondiga soup, tamales and ceviche. All all are good but my favorite is the soup. I have also had their ice cream and cafe de la olla which were both amazing. What is not to love about Mexican ice cream and coffee! Their prices are good. Depends on what you are shopping for. I would say they are Pasadena good. Over all I am happy with this store. With the sections of La Cocina (prepared food), a panaderia, a tortilleria and aguas frescas, every truck with a lawnmower in the back for 15 miles around will fill the parking lot at lunchtime, every day. This is like a Mexican Vons. It's new, good looking, orderly and carries so many brands of the common products. Both American and Latino. Best areas to me are: -The tamales bar = oh, they are so good, steamy and flavorful. Great deal on the half dozen and dozen. -Bakery: chocoflan anyone? and tons of good looking cakes, i was surprised. -Juice bar: freshly squeezed juices at a fraction of the price. You CAN be healthy here! -Tortilla factory: they have a whole set up to make them fresh. They even mae their own tortilla chips. -Ceviche bar -Cheese counter -Olive bar They also have tons of Mexican candy and mini pinatas! get one for fun. Most of the common latino products are cheap but the american products are at their normal retail. The downfall is their parking lot, too small and narrow even for a civic. Heard great things about this market and wow it blew my mind how nice and big it was. Its near the rose bowl (8min car ride) so you can buy fresh food and take it to the park eat and walk around the rose bowl loop! They make their own tortias as tou know! And their meat is famous too! I saw lots of ppl getting the chicken but the chorizo was delicious too! We bought some food from the food market. I had the burrito which was good. But my husband had the cuban tortas?! and the meat was almost impossible to chew! So we took out the beef out! Not good at all. The rest was great! Will definitely go here often! read more

I was specifically looking for a juice place in Pasadena area and a friend mentioned Vallarta plus market so I checked it out. It was located in a giant shopping center plenty of parking space. Once entering the market it was huge had everything u can think of juice bar hot food bakery and more.
