I was specifically looking for a juice place in Pasadena area and a friend mentioned Vallarta plus market so I checked it out. It was located in a giant shopping center plenty of parking space. Once entering the market it was huge had everything u can think of juice bar hot food bakery and more. This is the cleanest, most organized Mexican grocery store I've ever been to, and I've been to my fair share! They have almost everything I'd ever want, and their prepped foods are delicious! The butchers are super friendly and are very easy to talk to, and have you SEEN the candies?? Tamarindo FOR DAYS. I can't wait to drag my partner here to get more goodies--the fruits and fresh veggies look great, there are amazing sales, the bakery OH EM GEE. This is my new favorite place! read more

No one goes past the freeway in Pasadena but that's a missed opportunity because this Vallarta about two blocks north of the freeways on Fair Oaks is great. Finally, a healthy ethnic Whole Foods style market. Even had a few self serve food bars with healthy options and even a burrito bowl bar. Plenty of baked goods. Even had a small sushi bar and can try samples of the ceviche towards the back of the store. Great indoor and patio seating as well. Bathrooms were clean. Good prices. They made fresh tortillas to bring home in store. Great place, all markets should be like this Vallarta. read more

Disclaimer - I've only visited Vallarta twice, so this is not a comprehensive review, nor can I confirm their consistency, but both my visits were excellent, and I was satisfied with my purchases. +Fresh chicharones were delicious! You can purchase pre-packaged, or order by weight +Fresh agua frescas are rotated regularly. Their watermelon and jamaica were refreshing, and tasty. Each drink (~40 oz) is a little over five dollars, but worth it for the quality. I've also tried their horchata, but wasn't a fan. It was a overly fragrant and spicy. +Fresh guacamole + Vallarta brand chips are fire. I was craving guac and chips, and these were incredible. The guac had all the usual mix ins: tomatoes, onions, jalapeno. I proceeded to eat nearly the entire ~10oz guac tub for dinner, because I couldn't stop myself. I'll say the guac was a bit pricey at a bit over nine dollars, but worth it. +Parking is easy as there's a huge lot. +Safety is implemented by staff wearing masks, and the check out counters have plexi-glass walls to create a barrier between the clerk and guest. Such a clean and expansive store! Brand new, lots of security and staff, great variety of items - everything from huge deli (including fresh sushi, tamale station, soups, take out), juice and coffee bar (cafe de olla, Mexican corn drink, hot chocolate, and oatmeal), pastries, fresh tortilla and masa area, cheese, meat, and seafood areas. Enjoyed checking out the bulk chili, products from Spain, Central and South America (including fun variety of sodas, snacks, candies). Prices are competitive, easy to access via the freeway, large parking lot, will definitely be back! read more

This place is wonderful. A stunning array of Latinx products at mostly reasonable prices. I say mostly because some things were close to my local 365 in price, but others, like the meats, are incredibly fresh and cheap. A friend and I roll up here when we want to assemble a BBQ situation on a weekend with little to no thinking. Just grab some meats at the butcher counter, maybe some veggies too, fresh tortillas, fresh salsas and guacamole, chips, beer, mezcal, ice cream...they have everything and it has never been crowded while I'm there. First visit here today! Came to purchase specific items for an event and this Vallarta had everything we needed! First impression - Upon entrance the store is very clean, organized and inviting! There's ample parking so that's always convenient. We purchased fresh tortillas (corn and flour) to feed about 100 or so people. The tortillas were warm and freshly packed. All the aisles were well stocked and again clean! That's really a plus for me because I've been to some Vallarta stores where the floors were sticky and filled with debris, not at this store. The customer service was great! As the family and I were new to the store and did not know where everything was at - a nice store clerk directed us to the right aisles. After all of our store purchases. The family and I decided to try their "Cocina" hot foods. Ordered Burritos, Shrimo plate, a Tilapia plate and Aguas Frescas (Horchatas, Tamarindo and Sandia "Watermelon") Drinks. Sorry, we forgot to take pictures but next time for sure! We ate and sat in the outdoor eating area. Again, even the outside of the store was clean! Two thumbs up to Vallarta in Pasadena! Heard they opened in Pasadena, couldn't figure out where. I guess cause they took over what was a lackluster Vons at the corner of Orange Grove and Fair oaks north of the 210. What a place, looks huge and bright. In all honesty I was mesmerized by the crazy assortment of prepared food on the right side of the store-blended with their fantastic produce selection. Pretty much everything edible Mexican is available. Tried chicken tacos, carnitas tacos, hot seemingly home made tamales about 6 or 7 varieties. Self serve hot entrees and a very busy counter preparing combo plates and such. Oh and the Agua Fresca area, had the Jamaica, just like the stuff we'd get down in Tijuana way back when, they even had dried Hibiscus to make your own Jamaica!. Nice little indoor and outdoor area to enjoy their food, not to mention a very accommodating salsa bar to enhance your food. I felt like I was down in Mexico at a fair of some sort! I must confess I only stayed and perused about one fifth of the place on the right side. There is so much great stuff to check out. Oh by the way, never saw so many smiling employees in a grocery store! Extremely friendly and helpful staff! I'm going to guess it's a company that is good to their staff. I've never written a review before because I've never felt the need to but this is an exception. Generally speaking, this is a good place to get a variety of items you wouldn't otherwise find anywhere else, just be prepared to pay more than you would at most other grocery stores. My low rating is specifically for their kitchen staff and my consistently dissatisfied experience with them within the last few years. I've ordered from here a few times and have a few complaints from different visits: 1. They sometimes seem genuinely annoyed at taking my order and can be pretty condescending 2. I asked for their "family size" soup and they told me that wasn't an option (even though it was on the menu and I've ordered it before) 3. They've gotten my order completely wrong at least three times (today being the most recent) 4. They've made rude comments about me and other customers thinking I don't speak or understand Spanish 5. I've seen them berate customers for making similar complaints I can understand that they're probably overworked and underpaid and are just trying to get through their day but I don't understand why that's my problem or why they take it out on their customers. I'd suggest you avoid their kitchen altogether but if you decide to anyways, just be prepared to be on the defensive and make sure they got your order right before you leave! read more

I love everything about this place even their Bakery. You should try the delicious hotdogs at the food section. All the food here is cheap, you won't pay more than five dollars and they are tasty and delicious. There's a long line at the food for a reason, it's a good place to shop, and then get a good delicious bite to eat after. I also love the selection here, I can get a big bag of Doritos and it could be the size of three bags. If you want to shop for the whole month, this is the best place to shop at. I have lived in this neighborhood for the past 17 years and I sometimes shopped at the Vons prior to this store opening. But, I didn't shop there very often, because there were always beggars hanging around outside and I didn't feel safe. After dinner tonight Blaze, I decided to check out this store. I was impressed that the security was outside actively monitoring traffic and clientele. This was definitely a plus in my book. As for the food selection... I was just as impressed. I bought flour and corn tortillas that were warm and fresh when I picked them up off the shelf. I also grabbed a bag of their house made tortilla chips along with some guacamole and salsa. Then I passed the baneulos and just couldn't resist, so those made it in my cart as well. It was at the meat counter where I spent most of my money. I decided to buy their asada, carnitas and pollo meat for tacos tomorrow night. I could have purchased more, but had to contain my excitement. Had to wait an extra 15 minutes to place my order at the prepared food section because evrytime a Postmates order came through they had to fill it first to meet the deadline. I placed my order for fried chicken, which was on special and ordered some Central American tamales. The order kept being delayed so I busied myself buying groceries I didn't need. When my order was ready there was another costumer saying his extra tortillas are missing. When got home, the fried chicken I usually love were unusually small, almost from a different type of bird. I opened the foil wrapped tamales to find they were corn tortillas. What??? I called the store and spoke to the person who helped me. She remember me, the Postmates orders bumping mine, admitted the chicken is smaller than usual, and apologized for the missing tortillas. She said she couldn't do anything about it and that the Manager needs to call me. NEVER HEARD FOM HIM! I was beyond patient and kind during every faze of this mess. My family has lived in the neighborhood for 65 YEARS. We were happy to have a new market. I am neighborly. I wish they had better customer service or any customers service. Horrible experience we had in this location. The man preparing the tacos was beyond rude and saw he wouldn't change gloves even when he touched his face multiple times. When asked for extra salsa he said why you need more ? Wow I didn't know he paid for my food. Over a decade ago, I used to live near this market when it was a decrepit-looking Vons and never went inside. Now it is the fanciest Mexican market I have ever seen, like a brand new Whole Foods, but the fresh food is much more impressive. When you walk in, they have a Sushi Cantina and there is a decent amount of Asian food, several aisles of standard American fare, as well as a bin of schnazzy macarons. But mostly it's a spruced up Mexican market with a variety of steamed tamales (delicious), which you remove with prongs from small vats, all sorts of prepared dishes such as enchiladas and pupusas (I would recommend those), fresh tortillas (some of the best I've had), yummier than usual looking pan dulce, Mexican cheese of every sort, aguas frescas and hot food taqueria-like and beyond, available to eat there or to go. The supermarket is racist, a disgrace, has bad produce, and completely ignores their suggestion box. They actually stand there and let customers bag their own groceries when this is definitely not Food 4 Less. They actually sell food that has the artery-clogging lard in it! Because I live nearby I find myself going to that Supermarket pretty often. Often enough to see the disgrace that they actually are. And I've bagged my groceries 90% of the time while they sat and stared at me. At first I didn't mind but now I'm furious. Especially when you see that their prices aren't that cheap. I've asked them to make food without lard and they completely ignore my suggestions. I've asked them for so many different things. The suggestion box is a crock. There is an ordinance in Pasadena California that you cannot put lard in Foods, yet they don't seem aware of this at all. They're a huge disappointment and I wish that Vons has never closed in that area. Vallarta doesn't care about their customers. read more

Beyond disappointed with my recent experience at Vallarta. I'll begin by saying that I thought and spoke so highly of this particular market. Exclusively because of the ceviche bar. Also their plantains are always perfectly ripe.  These are reasons I make the drive here. Additionally, I've had exceptional service from several employees in the ceviche bar (he has glasses and is so nice to talk to), a young Dominican man in the produce, and Kimberly at the juice bar. This weekend I can't say the same. TERRIBLE. I was at the prepared/hot foods section and wanted to order tacos. Cleotilde, took my order in a rushed, curt manner. Hardly any eye contact. She wasn't even done ringing me up and she took the time to look past me to say hello to a friend walking by behind me. Shoved my receipt toward me, saying pick up is to the right. I walk a few steps out of the way and wait patiently.  About ten minutes pass and two families approach, order their food, and leave. I'm still waiting. I've never gotten food from this part of the store so I guessed this was the normal process. Thinking my food was being made. All the while, Cleotilde, saw me standing there. Waiting.  The older bald man at the grill motions me to come over and asks if I've been helped. I handed him my receipt and he looks puzzled. Checks the orders on his screen and we see that my order was never pushed through to the kitchen. My significant other comes by to check on me and asks what's taking so long and I explain what happened. He's shocked that it took almost 30 minutes for them to make five tacos and one pupusa. He asks CLEOTILDE in Spanish what happened and why, she replies by saying she's sorry and that it's so hot and they got busy. WHAT??? Inexcusable. Management in no way shape or form should tolerate this. I think the scenario that occurred here is clear as day. Vallarta employees should treat everyone, no matter their ethnicity or age, equally. We decided we didn't want the food, a bad taste already in our mouths from the treatment, and demanded our money back. No food from here will ever taste good if it's paired with discrimination. read more

This review is specifically for the La Cocina catering department. I ordered the Taco Party Combo Pack for a family gathering. This pack is stated to feed 25 people and contains half pans of beef, chicken, rice and beans, along with large containers of red & green salsas, diced onions and lime slices. I also ordered a half pan of their delicious homemade guacamole. I want to start by saying the food was absolutely delicious and plenty of it!!! We had 10 big eaters and barely made a dent in it. There was enough food for my son to make a nacho bar with his 5 friends the next day and we still had food leftover. Again, the food was excellent and the meal pack they assembled is perfect for an event. One thing to note is the Taco Pack does not come with tortillas, you have to buy them separately from the market. (They do make the best fresh tortillas!!) Kind of hard to have tacos without tortillas so it would seem that should be part of the pack. Unfortunately I have to ding them a star because of the ordering and pick up process. I went to the store two days before my event to place my order (website states you must order 24 hours in advance). I had done my research and knew exactly what I wanted to order, but apparently I was the only one that knew their menu. A lead person had to be called and she had to search for quite a while until she could locate the items I requested. Took a while but we made it through the order process. Had more trouble with the process when I went to pick up the food. Took in my order slip (pick up time was 5PM and I arrived at 5:30PM), handed it to the young lady at the register and she looked like she had never seen one before. Her first question was, "When did you order this?" You have the slip in your hand!! She then had to get a lead person and she started searching around for their copy of my order slip. Luckily I wasn't in a rush because they hadn't even started putting my order together! They finally located their copy of my order and asked me to come back in 15-20 minutes to pick up my food. When I came back the food was ready and packaged very nice. They put the half pans in custom fit cardboard boxes so it helped keep the food warm and less chance of leakage while transporting. All in all I would definitely order from them again, but would allow more time and patience for ordering and pick up. read more

How could I have had this amazing supermarket so close to me and never tried it. They have an ice cream bar, a ceviche bar,an olive bar, a salad bar, nuts and dried food bar, hot food (both self service and hot), tamales, wings bar, bakery (try the pastel de elote, Mexican corn cake- out of this world) and vegetables and your usual grocery store. So I took my mom to Vallarta yesterday 5/24/22. My mom is a senior and a bit hard of hearing. She gets in line and waits patiently to be called while one employee was attending to another customer. A lady comes from around the corner and in a very rude manner tells my mom she will be helping her. Again, my mom is hard of hearing so she may have called her and mom didn't hear but even if that was the case, that's not how you talk to seniors. My mom proceeded to ask for pork chicharrones and tried to explain what it was she wanted. The employee kept cutting her off and not listening. The employees then proceeded to look at me, thinking I was not with my mom and rolled her eyes as she continued to talk to mom in a condescending manner. I made it a point to to show I was with my mom and the employee freaked out, apologized and treated my mom accordingly. I guess she knew this review was coming. Unfortunately,this was not the only encounter with a rude employee. A produce stocker was also rude to my mom although not as abusive, was rude and walked away when I asked for his name. Great market, great concept but unfortunately some rude employees. I say some because the carnicería staff has always been great and as has been the cashiers. After reading other reviews, I have decided to share the woman's name as it appears in other reviews. The ultra rude lady was Cleotilde. Apparently she has been an issue for a long time. read more
