I couldn't agree more with the people on yelp. Vallejo Aquarium fish store is a major plus for the town of Vallejo. I have avoided pet stores from this town for longest time. The quality in some of the pet store is down right degrading. I was taken back when one of my friends told me that Vallejo was opening up another Aquarium store. I shudder to think what this one will look like.Finally i went to Vallejo Aquarium about a month after they opened. What a big surprise...abundant of tanks...mainly fresh water fishes. Their salt water tanks were huge about 500 gallons each. Although they were going through their cycling phases i knew the store owners were on the right track. The main person of this establishment is Mr. Hung Ma. This man seems to be the driving force in this establishment. His relentless pursue of giving customer satisfaction is unbelievable. Let me tell you what has won my allegiance to Vallejo Aquarium...I went there one evening around 6:30. Hung was getting ready to close up for the night. He welcomed me and he even remembered my name although it was only my second time visiting in his store. We chatted and talk till 9:00. Most stores would have shooed their customers out 5 minutes to closing time. He even offered a cup of soup while we chat about our love of fishes. Now that is customer service. Since then i have been a customer of Vallejo Aquarium. His primary staff consist of Wendy and David. They also take pride in this store. Hung has trained his staff in the fine art of customer service. The store itself is going to be a major competitor to the other surrounding aquarium stores. Excellent quality on freshwater and saltwater. Their coral prices are by far the lowest out of the other stores in Fairfield, Richmond, Pleasant Hill, Oakland and Pleasanton. Believe me i shop around. Although the Vallejo Aquarium is still in its infancy stages, Hung knowledgeable staff provides wealth of information that has come from years of dedication to the hobby. read more

In a time where it's hard to give someone 5 stars, the guys at Vallejo Aquarium earned 6. I still go here for my saltwater fish and corals, even though there are plenty of other stores in my area and I have to pay bridge toll to get there. These guys know EVERYTHING about keeping a saltwater tank. The staff will answer any questions you have, even if you don't buy anything. They will never tell you something just to get a sale. They'd rather you leave and buy nothing than buy something not compatable with your tank. Even if my next move takes me 3 hours away, I will still make all my serious purchases here. David et al. Gave me good advice when I first got started with my reef aquarium. Always a friendly service and they never push livestock or products down customer throats. On the contrary, they advices me to hold off in buying fish until my tank got stable. They were cool enough to keep testing the chemistry of my water too. Hard to give a 5 star place just one measly star. I am a mystery shopper and i just happened to just come in on the wrong time. Place is in a ok environment, a little sketchy but i guess thats what happens when its in vallejo. i came in during a sunday, about mid afternoon. This place was a MESS, a lot of things to trip over, buckets all over the place, water was spilled without any caution signs. employees were loud and not busy at all. there were about 2 other people in the store and they were getting helped. i was however greeted when i walked in but soon after that no how may i help you from the staff or anything. they might see that i wasnt buying but that still doesnt mean i get no CUSTOMER SERVICE. they had a very good selection which is why i give them one star. few dead fish in tanks, some coral wasnt looking as healthy and a few tanks were so dirty i couldnt even see through the aquarium. very neat looking creatures i saw, and after about 20 min of walking around i was asked if i needed any help by a young guy that worked there (cant remember name) i told him i was just looking and he said ok and left. Uhhhh excuse me? but you could of asked if i was looking for anything in particular to make my search fo a lot faster without any hassle. but no they just left me there. i stuck around for about 15 more minutes before i decided to leave. no good byes or have a ncie day. nothing. as a mystery shopper this is how i rate 5 star places. 1. service 2. location 3. variety on the type of store 4. service 5. knowledge of employees about their product they got some decent customer service but not good enough for someone like me. they should adapt to THEIR customer not to customers who are most definately buying. i could of been a future prospect but still no one wanted to help me on that. they should be asking for buisness not me asking them to give them MY buisness. it was very hard to sti here and write this because of all the good reviews ive read. ive been here before and it was much more pleasant which was back in august. and i come back as a mystery shopper this time and it was sure a let down from the first time. i hope this review can help them improve in what they need to improve on and make it so my 2nd visit as a mystery shopper in a couple months i will recieve the best service like everyone says. good luck! -Anonymous shopper read more

I can't say enough positive things about Vallejo aquarium and Hung! I appreciate the fact that he took the time to know my tank and everything about it. I noticed that whenever I'm in Vallejo Aquarium the associates know every customer by name and their tanks and fish. This is impressive, personalized customer service. These guys are honest too. They'll cut you off if you are buying too many fish for your tank. They take good care of their fish. I was starting a new tank for the first time in 20 years. Vallejo Aquarium was recommended to me by their competitor. Great recommendation! Since starting my aquarium I have shopped around. But I will always give my business to Hung. Sooooooooo glad this place was by my first apartment when I moved out after high school. I'd never really thought of having a fishtank once i'd moved out after high school, but this place was only a couple blocks. After walking in one day and seeing how beautiful aquatic life can be I decided to buy my first salt water tank. Great decision on my part I still love it years later!! this place a lot better get fish there happy and there in a bigger tank and every time i been in there never seen one sick fish or dead one best place get a fish and they have rare ones in there too the place have such pretty tanks and fish i go there to buy or even just to look and take photos of all the pretty fish! the salt water fish thought be hard to set up or take care of the guy there wright down everything i need to know so simple he give me tips that really helped and saved my 10 year old fish at home so if you have sick fish this is the place to help you they have everything there it my be small but they sure have everything. there is only one thing if its really really hot out and you cant take the heat will it not a cool place they keep the doors open and have the fans going but if you don't mind the heat like i do then it should not matter :) In Vallejo if you want more fish to pick from and you want them healthy come here the worst place in Vallejo is Petco small tanks very unhappy always sick and dead and no one helps you there. read more

I didn't know my city had an Aquarium until my friend told me about it due to the fact that I recently got in the fish keeping hobby, my first time going there was awesome I was amazed with all the fish they have for you to select from including freshwater and salt water fish, all the workers there are really kind and helpful and very knowledgeable when it comes to questions!! Not only do they have fish they have fish tank starter kits, decor such as plants fake and real, gravel, sand etc... they also have all the chemicals/liquids you need to start and maintain a fish tank, they have a variety of things! They have filters, heaters, everything you could think of that you'll need for your fish tank and all at a very good cost effective price!! I love this place I've gotten Neon tetras and guppies from there and I'm glad to say that the fish from Vallejo Aquarium are real healthy and this will be my go to place for anything I need, and a plus for me is that I'm 2-3 minutes away which is sweet! As well they'll test your water once a week for you for free and if you want to get it tested multiple times it's 1$ per test after the free test you get every week which is real awesome! they helped me test my water for free and also helped me figure out what was going on with my fish, however they betas are not in the best health, the people that work their are knolageable but the betas are cheap and most are sick. i did see one that it looks like someone just forgot about him and left him to die, some had very ugly water color. the other tanks did look well established but weren't the most algea free or the cleanest and prettiest. so id buy with caution. the place is really nice though and they seem very willing to help even for free which is honestly amazing. read more

these guys are the best. they have the most friendliest, helpful, and up-to-date staff i've ever seen in a pet shop. they know their stuff and their reef tanks are DOPE AS ROPE! i bought my green spotted puffer fish there, and he's in tip top shape. they had like a few in the tank, but they were all healthy! all their fish are very healthy and alive, active, and perfect in color. they have a lot of fish that the local petco dont have. they have the fish that will get you in bed easier than roofie can! go there, let them know your situation, and they'll take care of you. happy fishing. read more

Good stock of fish every week. Staff is very helpful. The best place to find rare salt water fish that no one else in the bay or even online. I have bought many fish from there and none of them have had any deceases or have died. They even make sure the fish is eating and healthy before you buy and are honest and will tell you the fish isn't eating or feeling well. I love this place and will only buy from here. read more

Owner has years of experience, and is willing to take the time to help. Fish vary from week to week, with some weeks having rare fish and other weeks, you will find more common fish. Owner is willing to find specific fish you are looking for. Prices are very reasonable, even on unusual fish. Best prices on coral in the Bay Area and you can find some larger pieces. read more

After reading so many good reviews, I was happy that there was a store in Vallejo that was expert at taking care of fish. I have a 125 gallon tank with fancy goldfish. I take extremely good care of my tank and have had the same fish for many years. About 2 weeks ago, I introduced some new fish in the tank and they all immediately got sick. As I had never had fish disease before, I had no idea what the problem was. I went to Vallejo Aquarium and asked the owner if he made house calls ( I live nearby). He offered one of his staff who said he would be out the next day----never heard from him. 2 days later, I called and this guy assured me he would be out the next day---never showed or called. I got the best help from the staff at Petsmart in Concord. My fish almost died only because I just needed someone to tell me how to care for them. They are now slowly recovering. I will NEVER shop at that store again. read more

this is an ok shop but every time i walk in their store i see dead fish in every tank. i brought it to their attention and said the other fish are picking at the dead ones, you should take all the dead fish out the tanks. and all the owner said was oh well thats what fish do when they die. idk about you but i dont want to buy a fish in the same tank that a dead fish in.... their corals look legit but still waiting to see a rare coral to grab. read more
