Passed through the area and stopped by for some pub food. Ordered buffalo chicken wings. The wings were really small, overcooked and tough. Not fall off the bone. Waitress also took about 15 minutes to stop by our table and did not check on us to see if we needed any drink refills, etc. Food quality and customer service could be a lot better. read more

Group of us went there and sat down on Friday @ noon for lunch. Well, no one in site and we yelled and kidding it must be self serve. The music was so loud, finally bar person came out. We order drinks and ask nicely to turn down the music please. She laugh and ignore the request. We ask 4 more times after ordering our food, we even move to a different table to see if it was quieter, but no luck. We ask again and she stated another table has the remote and we would have to ask them to turn down the music. I said take a picture of me because you will never see me again. We went for dinner kind of on a whim, at the Valley Inn Ale house. We went on a week night hoping that it would not be busy. It wasn't. The food was just OK about what you expect at a bar but the problem was a customer. There was a drunk A-hole in the bar who was loud annoying and would not stop pestering the people trying to mind their own business. He seemed to be a favorite of the help as he was very overserved and drunk. He ruined our entire evening. We asked him to stay away and he continued to be a pest and seemed to be emboldened when asked and told to stop and go away. We will never go there again. He, the drunk person, is a member of one of the wealthiest families in the area and acts a drunken fool. read more

We stopped for a mid-afternoon cocktail and spied the Friday Night Prime Rib Special brightly advertised ever so boldly on the wall. I immediately planned a return trip for dinner despite thinking a rather odd Special for a Friday. Maybe a fish fry ...certainly not Prime Rib. So, as it turns out the Prime Rib set before my eyes was the complete opposite of my expectation of a tender, tasty succulent slab of meat. Bottom line...a razor thin slice of the nastiest seasoned, tough, disgustingly tasting piece of some fricken crap portrayed as "Meat."... absolutely the worst Prime Rib experience..."Ever". Did I mention that the Valley Inn picked my pocket for $24.99 for a Prime Rib Illusion? But I learned a valuable lesson to always go with your gut and never order a Prime Rib Special on a Friday Night! The Valley Inn breaks into the top 10 list for the "Crappiest Meal I have Ever Tasted"! I can only imagine what the Saturday Night Special might be...or not be! read more

Iowa Drove by the place dozens of times and always assumed it was just a dive but a friend suggested stopping so we stopped for lunch last week. Was amazed with the place. It looked fantastic. We were immediately greeted by the bartender who explained they had just recently opened for lunch (explained the lack of other patrons). We immediately moved to the outdoor, and under a roof, bar area. River view, outstanding renovated bar/table seating area. Ungodly good beer selection, and then the food came. Warning! You we want to read this review before dining at the Valley Inn. This place should be known as the worst restaurant in the Quad Cities. This used to be a favorite hang out of ours but a recent change in kitchen staff and food menu has made it a train-wreck. Our meal this evening was terrible. To quote one of the previous reviews "The ribs were so tough you needed a chainsaw to cut them." The side dish of potatoes was only half cooked, the potatoes were still raw in the middle. The nachos had actual CANNED TOMATOES on top of them. Giants chunks of unseasoned canned tomatoes ruined the nachos. We tried to do the right thing, we let the potatoes and the nachos slide but returned the ribs to the kitchen. The evening went downhill further when I was informed that I still had to pay for the ribs that I did not eat and sent back to the kitchen. The bartender/waiter/only guy working tried to help as best he could but he actually had to text his manager to ask if he could comp the ribs. He then had to have a 5 minute conversation with the kitchen to see if they were OK with the free ribs. The manager said no and they told me "everyone else has liked the ribs so they must have been fine". In the end I had to pull up a barstool and demand to talk to the manager personally before they removed the charge. To sum it up... Worst bar food I have ever had Terrible staffing- the guy was good but not enough to handle an entire bar & restaurant by himself No care for their reputation or customers. This ain't your father's Valley Inn. Gone the unlevel wooden floor. Gone the tripping hazard transition from the bar to the hastily added dining area. They took their sweet time rebuilding this place, and they did a great job. Dark wood, outside patio, and multiple flat screens are some of the improvements. So what? You just put a pretty dress on a pig. Wrong. The food has drastically changed. The menu is unique featuring deep fried bacon BLT, waffle fry nachos, bacon bbq ranch pizza, and more. But surprise, it's good too. Not the best bar food, but I'd give it a 7 out of 10. Beer selection also has changed. About 10 beers on tap, and only a couple are normal domestics. This place has changed, and for the better. I do miss the dive version, but that is really easy to recreate. Just go down to the nearby farm fields, roll around a while, and drink a Bud Light. I hope this place keeps the great beer selection and unique menu, and don't slack off the longer its open. read more

What a difference 40 years makes! Nice atmosphere, really good bar food, and lots of beer choices. Growing up around here, we never had to look very far for a good burger and a cold beer. Lots of "bar and grill" type places. Now, nothing but chains pedaling junk food on china. The Valley Inn Ale House has restored my faith in humanity and has provided a haven in the neon landscape. I'd like to keep it a secret so it doesn't get overrun but give it a try. You will love it. read more

This summer a friend of mine and I went into the valley in for lunch. The bartenders looked at us as we sat down at the bar and then ignored us for 10 minutes while they talked on their cellphones and we finally left. The Customer next to us asked the bartender if they were plucking the chicken for his chicken salad.We vowed to never come back. However some good friends of mine were there tonight so we went in there for drinks. once again no service. The bartender actually watched us go to the table and sit down and after 10 minutes I went behind the bar and politely asked the bartender to wait on us and he thought we were just there to sit. I asked him why would he not at least come over and ask us if we wanted something and he had no response. He was completely rude to us and We will never go back. This place does not even rate one star. Someone needs to manage the employees. read more

The service has improved immensely. They have a new menu that has "horseshoes" on it. The back story behi d the horseshoe was pretty interesting. The actual horseshoe itself was delicious! There are several to choose from. I had the grilled pork tenderloin. It is an open face sandwich on a thick bread,your choice of meat, a pile of hand cut fries smothered in a cheese sauce thst is made in house. It was delicious and yes we paid with plastic. We have been here several times, all for dinner. A variety of dishes have all been average to above average. The ambiance is casual but classy. The burgers are above average. The fries and beer cheese sauce are both great! They have a nice beer list, but wines are nothing to write home about. Apparently this place used to be a real pit. I never even knew it existed. Now it's been redone, and I have to say it does look pretty nice. There are TV's everywhere, so you can watch a game and drink some beers. And speaking of beers, they have plenty on tap! If whisky is your thing, they have a lot to choose from there too. I wasn't that impressed with their menu - there wasn't a whole lot to choose from. I ended up ordering the Cuban. It was probably the most Americanized Cuban I have ever had. The meat seemed like it was out of a package, and it ended up getting soggy towards the end. It wasn't horrible, but I probably wouldn't order it again. I also ordered the sweet potato fries as my side. I didn't get that many, and they were really greasy. Our waitress was very nice, but we had to flag her down a few times. I would come back to sit and watch a game and have some beers, but not to eat lunch or dinner. read more

I am so happy to see this place is still around! The Valley Inn played a significant role in my family's history. My grandfather tended bar there off and on from the 1930s to early 1970s. My grandmother ran the cafe for the Carlin's sometime in the 1930s or 40s. My grandfather lived in one of the upstairs apartments from the 60s until his stroke in the 70s. My parents engagement party and many family celebrations were held in the Valley Inn. I have fond memories of helping my grandfather around the tavern...filling coolers, sweeping-up, etc., before opening and I remember that burgers off the grill were the best. If I am ever in Iowa again, you can bet the Valley Inn will be my first stop. Thanks for keeping it alive. read more

My husband and I have tried dinner here a couple times - the food has been good but what keeps from being regulars or thinking of going there w/friends is the service. Last night they never came to check to see if our food was good or needed anything else - we needed to flag her down for my bbq sauce for our Texan burgers. Never checked on our drinks, etc. We've gone to this place 4x and 3 out of those times it has been poor service. One couple waited so long to be waited on that they finally walked out and I don't think the wait staff even noticed and it wasn't even busy! The menu could use a bit more creativity. The atmosphere is really nice and could be relaxing if there was good service. read more

Bad move to change this to Zeke's menu! Zeke's Island Cafe in Davenport is good, but we don't need another one. This is a HUGE net loss for the QC area and specifically Bettendorf. This is a tiny menu of specialty food that will not appeal to the regulars. The variety and quality of the previous Valley Inn menu is what had me coming back again and again week after week. Went there tonight based on recent reviews, after alienating the place for 6 months. This place went from being my favorite to downright awful to coming back around. It is definitely headed in the right direction. Food was much improved. Had the Pony Shoe. A little salty but overall good quality. Place was cleaned up and all the writing on the wall was covered up. Service was a little slow and it seemed as if there was only one waitress. She was very friendly but too many tables. Beers were cold. Wife had a margarita and said it was good. All staff was friendly and attentive. read more

Good effort. The place is nicely done inside and has a great patio that overlooks River Road along the Mississippi River a few miles south of I-80 bridge. If you are coming from the interstate take the first or last exit in Iowa depending if you are traveling west or east, respectively, on I-80. If you are on a Harley ride down the river road it would a good place to stop for a break. The food is elevated bar food. They have really good salads. The Mahi Mahi salad is one of their top sellers for good reason. It has lots of TV's to catch many games. We would stop again. read more

Another update: they got it right! Reopened with new everything...management, staff, menu, beers. The only thing the same is the space, which was fully remodeled in 2013 and is a great atmosphere. Service has been addressed, and the current staff really cares and are very competent. Menu is nice variations on bar food, nothing overly creative but enough twists so it's not boring. Food is really well done. The smoked pork is outstanding...utilizing a smoker on site that they didn't use before. Of the 16 taps, half are devoted to crafts (Founders, Exile, Lagunitas, etc), 5 mass craft (Sam Adams, etc) and 3 mass market. Overall, this is now the neighborhood tavern that was hoped for, with good food and beer (all high quality), welcoming staff, relaxed atmosphere. Hope they are successful and can keep the staff. read more

Wife and I stopped in for lunch today and it was delicious. I had the taco special and she had the rib dinner. The ribs were seasoned well with a bit of heat, and were tender. Very nice! It was busy tonight (Friday) and we sat outside- our service was fine. Our appetizers (pretzels) were good, it didn't taste like the typical frozen ones. They were lighter and more fluffy.. My boyfriend had a ale house burger and I had catfish- both good dinners and reasonably priced. The beer list was the only thing I could see improving- - for an "ale house" it would be nice to see a more diverse and unique selection- but we are in pleasant valley so I'm sure the typical domestics sell better. I travel for work and loved going into Valley Inn for a quick bite or drink after a long day. The food is FANTASTIC (try the meatloaf - it's so good your tongue will slap your brains out), the drinks are right on point and fairly priced considering the liquor they use, and the remodel is beautiful!! The reason for the low rating is the new management. I used to work in food service back in the day so I understand that it's stressful but the new manager they've hired is a little too abrasive to the staff and it's beginning to show. I've witnessed her threaten jobs multiple times and the tension has become awkward as a customer. Don't get me wrong, the food is wonderful and the venue is picture-perfect and I will continue to go there. However, the management needs to relax. read more

This is my favorite place to hang out. There have been a lot of new amazing changes taking place. First of all, they now serve appetizers until close, they have a new chef, and their menu is improving each time I come. In fact they were giving out samples of their corn bread when I came in today. It was amazing, I think next time I will order my own serving of them. Oh and the service is amazing, the bartenders Brittney and Beth are top notch. Fun, friendly, but not in a fake way. They have good senses of humor, and love their jobs. Oh, and they are now accepting cards. So NO MORE CASH ONLY!!!! read more
