Best service I've had in a long time! Only place that gives them a run for the money in that respect is Norton's in Highland Park. Anyways, it was our first time at this restaurant and the owner walks over and presents my husband and I with a free appetizer. The food was great and I especially love the atmosphere! As another noted in a review below, the biggest problem with the Valley Lodge is that the parking lot is usually full. Reminds me of a sign I saw on a restaurant on River Road that said "The food and booze is lousy, but the parking is great!" Except at the Valley Lodge it is the opposite. The food and booze is great but the parking is limited. I have enjoyed lunch and dinner and drinks many times and always enjoyed the food and the neighborhood feel of the place. Aside from the manager Chris, the customer service was very rude and pushy. After our meal was complete and the check was put onto the table we decided we wanted to keep the night going and order another round of drinks. The server put the check on our table and expected us to sign it right then and there. She would continuously look over our shoulders to see if we signed the tab. As soon as we did she got her tip out and went home. The manager made it up to us by getting us a round of drinks the next time we were in. My family recently decided we needed a new casual restaurant for us to go to after several less than stellar visits to our regular haunts, so we've been trying out lots of places in the area lately. I have no idea why we have never come here before after years of driving by it - I think we found our new place! The ambiance was great - cozy, a big fireplace...a "lodge" is certainly a fair description. I loved it. The service was very friendly and incredibly attentive. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and my father ordered a burger. We both thought the food was EXCELLENT and for the quantity as well as quality of the food, it was a bargain at around $10 each (you get a choice of regular fries, sweet potato fries, chips, or veggies. I had the regular fries and thought they were delicious. My dad had the sweet potato and liked them as well). My grilled chicken sandwich was huge and incredibly fresh tasting. I will def come back again! My only concern is that since the place is so small, I've noticed sometimes that driving past it that the parking lot can get pretty jammed. The food has gone down hill since new ownership has taken over few years ago. Ordered carry out sloppy joe, slaw, fries, spanakopita and French onions soup. The latter was so so and did not have enough cheese on it, the slaw was gross and had sour disgusting taste, unreal, fries were soggy and soft and thrown in with sandwich in box, not hot or crispy, sloppy joe had one bite and tossed. You could taste the lumpy meat supposed to be tender and smooth. Store recipe mixes are better. This is a regular spot I go to for great comforting food and cozy atmosphere. The waiters and manager are all so nice here and they make you feel like your at home. The food here is pretty good. I enjoy the french onion soup. I love when the cheese is all stringy and gooey in a nice crock with a great stock. The greek salad has very good dressing and everything in it is very fresh. Some of my favorite mains are the Italian beef and the roasted turkey breast. The au jus with the beef is great and the turkey is tender with the rich, thick gravy, stuffing and garlic mashed potatoes. But my all-time favorite thing to get here are the baby back ribs. They are fall off the bone tender. I mean tender like you pick a bone up and all the meat comes right off with no effort and the bone is clean. The bbq sauce is sweet and spicy and goes great with the ribs. The sweet potato fries are also amazing and crispy. Best cheesecake ever here, hands down. We went here recently for dinner for the first time in many years and sat in the dark bar area. The place was not very crowded when we went, though, I understand that it is usually crowded at dinner time in the evenings. The menu is a mish-mosh of salads, burgers, sandwiches, ribs and other items (including pasta!). Valley Lodge is a favorite, cozy neighborhood restaurant. They are doing something right, have been there for over 40 years. There are two levels with the bar upstairs. There are tables and booths, but sitting at the bar is the most fun. The fireplace on the main floor enhances the charm of the room. It does resemble a lodge in the atmosphere and the menu. The burgers are very good as are the chicken, ribs, and turkey entrees. The service is friendly.. Go early, it gets busy. read more

My husband and I decided on a little road trip up to Valley Lodge Restaurant to try their food as we heard great reviews on it. We enjoyed our lunch very much, I had the grouper sandwich my husband had the cheeseburger, both very delicious. We sat at the bar, can not say enough good things about Chris the manager, a very pleasant young man who really looked like he enjoys his job and all his customers. We will recommend this and will sure come again. Next time we visit will be in the winter as it really does look like an intimate lodge. read more

Food is fine. Extensive menu. But consistently poor service. They cannot seem to time the food coming out from the kitchen. Everything comes out at dramatically different times. One person could finish their main course in the time it takes to bring out the rest of the food. If you reserve a table, it has always been given away upon arrival. I have even been seated, and ordered drinks then been asked to move tables because someone else reserved my table. Are you kidding? I am told they cannot take a reservation for a party less than six, but if I arrive by a certain time they'll have one for me. Upon arrival the table they promised is taken.... By people who have reservations. Alas, a party of four. If you can get past extremely poor service, the food is good. read more

My wife and I visted the Valley Lodge last week and we were very impressed with the friendly staff and great food. Friends of ours eat there often and suggested that we try it. I can honestly say that my burger was the best I have had in the area and my wife thought that her chicken kebob was delicious. They have an appealing selection of appetizers and the fireplace in the dining room made for a cozy setting. It looks like they also have a friendly bar scene. salad dresssin was spoiled,,,dont even think of ordering chicken dinner unless you want a small childs portion,,,when mentioned to owner about dressing he claimed it was okay,, although the two woman in our group are avid cooks and know spoiled food. when I complained about chicken leg being miniature I was brought a another one,, just as tiny., so I guess if you are not on their A list you get screwed.
