The picture is the entree and those carrots are not a garnish but a side. We had the three course prixe for $55 which didn't include coffee or tea. My husband ordered decaf which was burnt. Valley Restaurant was excellent, and worth a visit (even though it's temporarily closed right now). We came in February with some friends for a culinary experience. While I was unable to give it 4.5, that's the true review. The ambiance here is great. The Inn and restaurant feel old, yet with modern amenities. I love places like this, kept running as a homage to the past. The service is what you would expect, exceptional, and the coziness of the restaurant and its many spaces was also wonderful. It all comes down to food for me. We enjoyed several items, including the burrata with prosciutto and peaches, served with toasted bread. The combination of the fruit, saltiness from the prosciutto, and the creaminess of the burrata was really one of the highlights for me--texture, taste, and temperature for the win. With it, we enjoyed a pork belly appetizer that was good. Pork belly can be messed up without enough cooking time, and this was part of my dissatisfaction with it, it was just a bit more chewy than melt-in-your-mouth. But far from bad, just not perfect. It had some sort of sweet reduction with a pickled cabbage for a bite of vinegar. Then we enjoyed two salads that were a bit on the small side, but quite good anyway. The brussel sprout salad was nice, with hits of a fruit I cant remember, tossed in a light vinaigrette. The Caesar salad was made with fresh anchovies, as you would expect here, which isn't my favorite, but my friends loved it. My meal was the hangar steak, with fried potatoes. It was cooked perfectly, a nice medium rare, and the potatoes were crunchy and salty and a real hit. I have dined some of the best fine dining restaurants, and Valley was excellent. There could be some improvement, but overall it was a noteworthy and enjoyable dinner. Please visit them when they are back! read more

One of the best places we've been to in the area! The food is truly fantastic. Service is impeccable. Gorgeous view and very beautiful setting, both inside and out. The design is rustic and modern at the same time, classy and airy. My whiskey / currant cocktail was fantastic--kind of like a summery Manhattan, and the food was all great: oysters, ploughman's board, duck and the standout was pork belly tacos which just melted in your mouth. This is a great spot for a special occasion ie birthday, anniversary, or fancier date night. We were in the smaller dining room with the bar and loved the intimate feel. It a limited menu that changes regularly, and modest portions in keeping with a high-end dining experience. And yes, pricey. We enjoyed an entrée special of scallops. Entrées from the menu: Red Snapper, Long Island Duck Breast, and Tagliatelle (pasta) with Pesto and nettle leaves. Appetizers of Pork Belly Tacos, Arugula Salad, and Corn Soup. Desserts of Coconut Cheesecake and Strawberry Shortcake. Enjoyed Wind Gap Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, priced 3.5x retail. Before dinner, we were at the bar. Inventive variations of popular drinks. Very good selection of bourbons, ryes and scotches. Tip: Park where the golfers park. I ended up in the unpaved employee parking lot. Signage unclear. Valley is, hands down, our favorite restaurant. My husband and I always enjoy the fantastic food, beaut setting, and excellent service. We'be been coming for years and always leave happy. The dishes are always locally inspired and grown. I love the local Ploughman's board as an appetizer, and entrees change based on season. While we're often full, we can never say no to the dessert menu either! Beyond the food, the restaurant manager James, and his staff will make you feel at home. We move had the pleasure of being served by Daniel in many of our visits, and he goes above and beyond to ensure your meal exceeds every expectation. You also can't beat the location, sweeping views over the Hudson River make the perfect backdrop to your meal, lunch or dinner. My husband and I had our wedding reception at The Garrison in February 2020. We decided to return to Valley Restaurant for our anniversary dinner, with an evening stay at the Inn they have on site. In short summary, we had the most lovely evening away, with a fantastic, delicious dinner. We have dined at the Garrison a few times before for lunch and of course enjoyed the delicious meal served at our reception, but this was our first dinner experience. Our meals were delicious, but most noteworthy was the appetizers. We had the Oysters and Pork Belly tacos, both so good that we are still talking about it to this day. We left very happy and full! In addition to the food, the service was impeccable. We were treated so well by James, Daniel and their entire team. The professionalism of the staff is evident and made our experience all the more enjoyable. In addition to making our dining experience so enjoyable, the team also was top notch with their COVID safety compliance making our experience all the more enjoyable and relaxing. It was such a nice experience, especially during COVID, to stay at the Inn which was just a few steps downstairs to the restaurant. We got to eat, drink and be merry with incredible convenience. Lots has changed over the past two years - all good. The Valley rivals any venue for food quality and offers a magnificent setting as well. Open for dinner Thursday - Sunday. Get a window seat. The views from the patio, deck and dining room are stunning and the ambience is elegant but casual, making for a very comfortable experience. The Valley has its own organic garden just off the deck, and in keeping with current restaurant trends, focuses on local ingredients wherever possible. Four of us spent a wonderful evening last night, first having a drink at the bar with James Brown as he filled us in on recent history at the property. I had a perfect mojito with fesh mint from the garden, while my wife enjoyed the Valley's signature summer melon cocktail. We moved to the dining room where the amuse bouche of apple (local), goat cheese (local) and a mystery herb whet our appetites. For appetizers we worked our way through six delicious and fresh besoleil oysters, the vegetable, platter and a Sorbello Farm Green Salad with Garrison Farm snow peas & baby turnips, sherry, brioche croutons, and goat cheese. The house Albarino white wine was a perfect accompaniment for this course. Our entrees inlcuded the Crescent Farm Duck Breast prepared with stone fruits, Garrison Farm baby fennel, Crown Maple syrup glaze, and herbs; the Wagyu Flatiron of Beef with creamed corn (this was out of sight), local garlic scapes, truffled veal jus and grilled baby asparagus. I had the Colorado lamb, which was plated attractively with Gremolata, goat cheese polenta, local runner beans, and red scallion. The depth and earthy flavor of the lamb was the star of the show for me. We washed the entrees down with a bottle of 2008 Bevan Cellars Danger D cuvee. Not ready for this experience to end, we moved on to dessert and some 20 year tawny port. We shared and really enjoyed "Breakfast" = toasted waffle crumble, maple ice cream, bananas and pecans, and the Grilled Berries with toasted angel food crumble, and key lime. I need to start this review by saying that the manager, James Brown, is awesome. My husband and I got married at Highlands Country Club, the sister property to the Garrison, and one of my bridesmaids gave us a gift certificate to HCC so that we could revisit the sentimental location and have a nice dinner. Well... our anniversary was coming up and we tried to make a reservation at HCC only to find out that they are no longer open year-round. I called James at the Garrison to see if we could use the gift certificate at Valley, since it was about to expire! He said it wouldn't be a problem. Thanks, James! Bonus - when we arrived and gave our name, he immediately said, "Ah yes! The anniversary couple!" I was surprised he remembered considering we booked the reservation weeks in advance. For our dinner, my husband and I ordered two appetizers to start: a pork tenderloin with pears, and a house-made ravioli with foie gras, butternut squash and brussels sprouts. Both were amazing - I just wish they were bigger because a few bites was NOT enough (we shared both). For entrees, he ordered the lamb shank atop goat cheese polenta. The lamb was cooked well and the polenta was very tasty. I opted for the cod, although I asked if I could have the side dish that accompanied something ELSE on the menu haha... my custom dish was the cod atop spaghetti squash and purple potatoes. SO GOOD. It was truly delicious. I had a nice red wine (don't ask me now what it was... I already forgot) and my husband ordered a Scotch. We got complimentary black-and-white cookies (mini) with the check. Valley is on the pricier side, but everything is locally grown from their own garden, or nearby gardens, which is important to us. Came here for lunch with my mother after a short hike at Storm King. Best decision we made. We had the oysters as an appetizer, as well as gazpacho for myself. For the entrees my mother had a Crab Meat roll with cajun seasoned fries. Whereas I had the Long Island Duck. And for desert I ordered a blueberry cobbler. It was very good. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience and I would definitely come back when I'm in the area again. My only criticism would be that my duck wasn't as flavourful as I expected. I have been several times and always have had a very pleasant experience. I want to acknowledge and give a special thank you to our waiter Jacob. After not being able to get a reservation online (app said they were completely booked), my friend and I decided to stop at the restaurant for a drink. When we told Jacob, who was also serving as bartender, that we couldn't get a reservation,he very graciously said he would work it out for us. He was such a gem of a waiter giving great suggestions. Anyone who goes to The Valley should definitely ask for Jacob. One thing to note is that even though Open Table had the restaurant as full, there were empty tables all during the time we were there. If it hadn't been for Jacob, we would have continued elsewhere for dinner and missed the fantastic views the restaurant offers. read more

What a wonderful experience at Valley Restaurant! On September 4, my husband and I came for the first time. Even without a reservation, James was friendly and seated us promptly outside to enjoy the view of Storm King Mountain across the Hudson River. My friends and I came to the Valley Restaurant for a celebratory brunch last weekend. If you come to visit, sitting at a table outside on the deck is an absolute MUST since the views are BREATHTAKING. There is no better way to enjoy a weekend than taking in the mountains and warm air while brunching. Although the outdoor seating was ideal, the inside decor was also impeccable with a polished, country/cottage chic appeal. While sipping mimosas, I ordered the Maine Lobster Omelette that came with a side of potatoes. Mini complimentary corn muffins were put on our table while we waited for our entrees. My omelette was good but a little bland- the dish usually doesn't have a strong taste but I thought the mushroom and cheese filling would have added a little more of a kick. The portions were average sized but very filling. However, I could not resist dessert and ordered the Fried Lemon Tart. The dish was so pretty and deliciously tangy and sweet! Our waiter was extremely friendly, attentive, and quick to serve our meals. Brunch prices ranged from about $15-30. After we ate, we walked around the outside of the restaurant and enjoyed the picturesque stone gazebo. A wedding was being hosted on the property later that day, and it looked like a beautiful setup with a backdrop of the mountain scenery. Definitely, one of the best restaurants we've been to and we all live in Manhattan and eat out often. Among the many of us, we were able to try pretty much everything on the menu and we didn't have one single negative comment about the food or service. Instead, we couldn't stop talking about how good all the food is. We also had many kids with us and they too were treated very well by the staff and the kids loved their meals as well. We were delighted at the level of service and quality of food we were served. All ingredients were fresh and expertly prepared. Wines by the glass were spot-on for the food we ordered and the uncommon options of Armagnac and Calvados selections were very welcome additions to our meal.
