Great and greasy food absolutely a great place to go and it's cheap also! I love the burger I had and the fries are the best fries around.

Val's is basically the best burger and fries you're ever going to have. Ever. Times ten. Located in a tiny, cramped little shack, the cooking part takes half of the building and the "entry" area takes the other half. You order on a touch screen in the front, then wait for them to call your name. It's hella-cheap, but giant portions. Want fries? You get a bag of fries. Want a burger? It's a big ass, greasy burger that will run down your arms and drip off your face. It's just damn good food. There is no room to stand inside, let alone eat, but there are a couple of tables outside. Most of the time people just get it and take it home. Whenever you're on the east side, make sure that Val's is a stop on your trip! read more

Classic sliders! Awesome fries loaded with some sort of delicious MSG seasoned salt! The menu is as simple as it's gets. It's burger & fries or a big cup of beat it! This is a great, greasy, salty American burger joint. Milk shakes are pretty good but they are made from soft serve premixed stuff, the burgers & fries are why you go to Val's. They have this weird phone thing that you have to use to place your order. I usually just call ahead. In any case, Vals is worth the trip across town if you've never been. I go at least once a month. Mr. Runge informed me that he knew of a burger joint that was better than Five Guys, and possibly better than In & Out. I got my chance. Val's Rapid Service is a stand alone, standing room only burger joint in St. Cloud, Minnesota. They do three things, and these three things, they do well; burgers, fries, shakes. Your order is taken from a touch screen, and what's nice about this, is two things: a) the order is digitally communicated, so being lost in translation is not an issue, and b) it is the same price no matter what you order. AWESOME!! I ordered a cheeseburger with extra cheese and everything on it, except ketchup. HATE ketchup, it's too sweet. Almost why I don't like barbeque sauce. Got my mustard! Very happy camper. Mr. Runge ordered two double bacon cheeseburgers with extra cheese, ketchup and onions with a large fry. Which really means an entire white paper bag filled with crispy, browny, goldeny fries. I also ordered a simple strawberry shake whose flavor was anything but simple. It felt like strawberry clouds sliding down my throat, something I sipped and sipped, happily floating on St. Cloud 9. Sweet, sweet air. What I can say is YUM. Outside of In & Out and an orgasm-inducing Gorgonzola burger I had in Chicago five years ago, it is one of the best joints to go to. It was de-lish!! The burger was juicy and so warm, the bun soft and warm, the cheese melty and warm. Nothing was cold, everything was lick-your-fingers-clean tasty. Which I did. Multiple times. I took my time eating the wonderfully decadent fries, dipping them into my strawberry cloud-in-a-cup. It's one of my favorite things to eat, if both are made exceptionally well. This was the case. Val's is enjoyable across the board, but their shakes are really the reason to go back. They have such a variety that I wouldn't even get tired of going back, because by the time I finished trying them all, it would be time to start all over again. This place is a staple of Saint Cloud. The burgers are always cooked fresh, the shakes are yummy, and the fries are amazing! It can sometimes get a bit expensive but honestly it is well worth the money. Not exactly the type of place you want to go if on a diet; however, if you just want some great comfort food this place rules! read more

I don't understand why the 4 star ratings. This place is okay, nothing special. Pros - Fast service. Great salty shoestring fries (the regular is larger than most places large - great size to share). Cons - burger patties are thin like fast food chain stores (need to order double patties), burgers are lacking in condiments (only choices are ketchup, mustard, pickles, and onions...that's right no lettuce or tomatoes and the only cheese available is American cheese). But the thing that upset me is they charged for ketchup packets for the fries. read more

There's absolutely nothing special about Val's, it's easily the most overhyped food joint in this town. The beef used for the burgers is standard grocery store ground beef, it's not a mix made from ground short rib and chuck roast like what's used by burger joints that are actually upscale. People flip over the fact that they have many flavors for their shakes and let you mix them. Woo. Here, I took vanilla ice cream and added flavored syrup to it, somebody get me a Nobel prize. I love this place. It's been quite a few years since I've been there, but I'm sure when I head through town again I will stop there and it will be just like old times. Excellent burgers, tons of fries for not too much change. No seating, hardly any parking. If you think you are lost going there, you're not, keep driving and you'll see it. They used to be closed during wrestling season so the owner could go to all of his son's wrestling meets (or so the rumor was). I loved that, not sure if they are still closed then, but that made the place all the more dear to my heart, taste buds and stomach. read more

Yeah. I have been hearing about Val's for years. How good it is. I could NOT have been more disappointed. I ordered a hamburger with sautéed onions and fries. The atrocity that came out was a dry burger with onions and they had put cheese on it but SCRAPED IT OFF!!! Seriously!!! It was inedible and had to be thrown away. The fries were cold and the server practically threw my bag at me when I got there. Really! I will not be back. Step it up Val's!!! read more

But the fries and burgers are equivalent to McDonalds Ive noticed people keep comparing Vals to 5guys but 5guys has a large number of toppings available and Vals has ketchup, mustard, pickles, and onions. I love this place. The prices and quality of food are not at all indicative of each other. I can feed a family of four for about $20 and never be disappointed. The burgers are great and the amount of fries in a large order is enough for 2 to 3 people. Shakes are always good. Yes, you can't dine on site (unless you sit in your vehicle) but that subtracts from the cost of dining. The building might not look like much but it houses a gem of a food experience. I recommend stopping in if you are in the area. read more

Val's is a place like no other, a family run restaurant that has lived through the ages of fad diets, and no carbs, low carbs, selling the something that people love, Greasy Food. Val's simple menu is something not seen east of the Mississippi, Instead of inundating they're menu with fancy foods and new recipes they serve what made fast food great in this country, Hamburgers and French Fries. I've been going to Val's for as long as I can remember. My dad used to take me here, then I started going there when I got older. And now, even though I've moved away, every time I go back to the St. Cloud area, I be sure to make a stop at my favorite fast food restaurant. read more

Val's is a gem. It's in a tiny "in & out" house with a kitchen and about 10' x 5' of waiting space. They use a touch screen to take food orders now. Before that, people had to pick up a phone (inside the bldg) to let the order-taker know what they want. The menu is pretty simple- burgers, shakes, fries. Orders come as basic as they get. Any add-on will cost a little extra. Be careful when you order fries, they are extremely salty but their food is good- nice and greasy. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the St. Cloud area. read more

Last time I went to Val's will probably be my last the food just isn't what everyone in St. Cloud says it is. I myself used to love it as a kid, and wish I still did. Personally I think the food has gone down hill the meat has no flavor at all and taste frozen to me, fries are way to greasy and salty, and the shakes really aren't good at all. read more
