I think it's reasonable to adjust your expectations when you shop in a store called Value City. So, I went in there expecting low-moderate quality. The first let down, which is just a matter of personal preference, was that the style was not to my liking. Everything is big and bulky and, IMO, dated. But that's me. The major problem was customer service. Once I found one chair which would have *maybe* worked in my home, I asked a sales rep about the color choices. Specifically, how could I see the other colors? Can I get a swatch? See a swatch? No. Just no. No further explanation or suggestion. No "another store might have it in the showroom," or sorry to keep our prices low we don't do that. The sales associate signed me up for a credit card without consent. He told me they needed to increase their applications for financing but not to worry, applying doesn't mean you have to use it. I told him I don't want to finance so as long as the application does not mean obligation that would be fine. Then I get an email I have a credit card. WTF. I went back and talked to a manager at customer service and she did not care. She did t believe me. I had to report him for fraud to get it handled with the bank. I told him I would pick up the following Sunday and he said fine. Here I am on pick up day that I said I would come on, only to be told no pick up on sundays. After your sales associate signed me up for a credit card without my consent. Does this experience get any worse? I guess maybe when I pick up and the chair is all damaged and f'd up. Ordered a custom couch 03/18/25 total cost approx $2500 incl fees & furniture protection. Deliver was supposed to be 05/17, then 5/27, then today 6/10. Each time i got a call 2 days prior confirming delivery schedule. Track my order today and see its now supposed to be delivered on 4th of July. Call store and was told it hadnt even been made yet but they refuse to cancel without keeping 20% since it was a custom order. Old couch gone since the 2ND scheduled delivery date and no sitting area for another month. It is very unlikely they will deliver the couch on the 4th of July. I bought a couch, two swivel chairs and got a credit for $200 for a rug. They mailed me the rug with a hole in it. They asked me to return the rug tot the store in which I bought it from. Once I got there, they told my my couch was back ordered 3 months. I told them I want a refund for everything. After that they told me I returned the rug to the wrong location every though that's where I bought it from. In the end, they gave me a refund but shorted me $415. The furniture selection wasn't quite my cup of tea. It's because I love more modern furniture. I can say however I enjoyed how attentive the employees were. They do have a nice selection of lamps, portraits and other accessories. I ended up doing a store pickup for a picture that caught my eye. I was unaware pickups were not an option on Sunday. However, we give them chance after chance..the most recent purchase we made was a bed for my baby brother we literally got the bed a year ago and the entire frame is completely BROKEN. We called value city and because we didn't report the damages until a month outside of the warranty (5/2024) they refuse to fix any damages. No bed for over 1,000 dollars should break in less than a year or a year. I feel as if my money has literally gone down the drain. I walked into Value City to purchase just a bed, bench to match, and a lamp...cash no payments no nothing, cash let me mention how I was offered financing which gets you locked into payments until they get the furniture which I never would find e with them. In the pass I purchased two rooms of furniture with no issues, well my delivery date was for this past weekend June 19, 2021. Now mind you about a week ago he called to tell me the bench was on back order he never mentioned the bed, So this past Friday morning I called someone to come pick up my old bed, after they took it away later on that day I called VCF to get my delivery time, these jokers tell me I have to wait until July 9th, so my question was when was you going to call me the day of delivery. So I call corporate she want to tell me about vendor issues, apologies and then offer me $250.00 back on what I paid in full. BUT where they are lacking and need much improvement is customer service and being honest with the customer showing transparency in getting the customer the items purchased and answer the phones. It's not everyday that I buy furniture. I just wanted a newer more updated look and it's been to my experience that Value City is the best! But my recent experience was horrible at this location where you wait weeks to months for your furniture and that's a maybe according to them. Took my mom into the VCF in Catonsville to purchase living room and dinning room. The sales rep Quinton was pleasant but unable to provide any assistance after money was exchanged. The furniture was damaged and the store wants to repair instead of replacing. We reported the damage the next day but the store scheduled a repair instead of replacing the damaged furniture. When we asked about the return policy Quinton claimed we had to return within 7 days. The dinning room set has still not been delivered when it was supposed to be in stock at the time of purchase. I took two steps into Value City and Mr. Reggie Avent was quick. He greeted me, handed me a flyer, told me about the specials and offered to help me pick furniture. For some, this may be a sign of awesome customer service. However, this annoyed me. I thanked him for his offer and shared that if I had any questions I would let him know. You will not believe what this man did...he literally followed me around the store in a safe distance. Every piece where I stopped that was of interest he gave me the scoop. After awhile I just accepted that he would be a part of my life. Lol. Soon I grabbed him and told him the two furniture sets I was tossed between. Reggie was very helpful. He laid out the pros and cons then gave me exact price quotes including taxes and shipping. He was so knowledgeable that I began relying on him in my decision making. I highly recommend Reggie as your consultant. He definitely earned his commission. My furniture was delivered in a good time frame and had more features than I expected. I ended up going with the electric recliner set that had USB ports. It's pretty and comfortable. I'm looking forward to breaking it in a little more. Sooooo....I ordered two love seats and a couch. Ordering and setting up my delivery date was smooth. However when the items were delivered there were no legs/feet for one of the loveseats and not enough screws for the couch. The delivery man had extra screws in his truck and was able to screw in the few posts at the bottom of the couch. But there were none for the loveseat. Who does that? I called the store and spoke to a very nice girl named Asia (sp?). She informed me that it will take two-three weeks to get the feet delivered and installed. I did not sign for the delivery as I felt it was not complete. But now I am left with furniture that is literally sitting on my floor. This is what I get for going to a discount furniture store in the hood. I should have taken myself to Havertys and spend the extra money. Purchased a sectional couch ( Baltimore) for $1,600 in Oct 2019 and by Oct 2020 the entire thing is falling apart. Couch cushion ripped ( my 6 year olds foot tore it), fabric coming apart at the seams and pillows that totally lost their shape. Just a terrible overall product. We paid for the warranty which covers accidental sent the pictures to the warranty company and they said it was " normal wear and tear". After 1 year, haha. The warranty company is only available by email, call VCF and you're on hold for 2 hours, the VCF won't provide the managers email. Consumer Nightmare. CUSTOMER BEWARE. Horrible customer service and very dishonest service. I would deny them any stars if I could. I purchased a complete 7 piece queen size bedroom set and 4 dining room tables chairs on November 7, 2020. At that time I was informed that my dining room chairs would be delivered on December 15th and that my bedroom set would be delivered 2 weeks later, towards the end of December. I accepted the delivery terms due to COVID-19 and the upcoming holidays. I paid over $3500 for my purchase. A few days before the original delivery date of my chairs, I was informed that my chairs and my bedroom dresser and a nightstand would be delivered on December 16th instead of the 15th and that the rest of my bedroom set would be delivered during the last week on January 28, 2021. Of course I was disappointed with the new January 28, 2021 delivery date, but I accepted the new delivery dates. On December 16th I received 3 dining room chairs, and the dresser and mirror. The delivery guy stated that the 4th chair wasn't there and would be delivered next week and that my nightstand would be delivered with the rest of my bedroom set in January 2021. Today, January 25th, I contacted Value City to confirm the delivery of the rest of my bedroom set. After confirming my account, the clerk (young & unprofessional female) laughs under her breath and informs me that my new delivery date is May 2021. I asked for her to repeat the delivery date to confirm that I heard her correctly. I asked her to make arrangements to come and pick up the dresser & mirror so that I can get a full refund for the purchase of the bedroom set. She asks me if I was requesting for a refund, which I confirmed that I was. She proceeds to put me on hold several times and then the phone disconnects. I called back and requested to speak to a manager. I was informed that the only store manager there was assisting another in-store customer. I left my name and number and requested a returned phone call. I attempted to call their corporate office at 1-888-751-8552, where I sat on hold for over 50 mins before I call back to the store to speak with a manager. Again, I got the run around and was disconnected. After being on hold with the corporate office for 58 mins, the Customer Service Rep. Kayla finally answered. She also confirmed the delivery date of May 2021. She explained that due to COVID-19 many of their deliveries have been delayed. I explained that unfortunately due to the consistent rudeness and disrespectful behavior that I had experience over the phone and at the store during the past few months, that I just wanted a full refund for the purchase of the bedroom set. Thankfully Kayla arranged for the pickup of the dresser and mirror and cancelled the rest of my order and confirmed the refund for my purchase. My experience with Value City has been awful. I purchased a dining room table which was ruined by the delivery men. Three of the chairs had dark oily hand prints. There were lots of nicks on the tabletop with paint missing. It took over 3 weeks for them to send someone to inspect the damage. The worker tried his best to clean the chairs, but the stains did not come out. He applied some matching paint to all the nicks but it is still obvious. I was directed to contact the store manager to see about an exchange. I sent e-mails and left messages, however no one ever phoned back. I am stuck with the greasy chairs and damaged table. A year later I decided to try the store again and purchased a box spring, mattress and bed frame. It took 9 days for them to deliver it. The delivery people were scheduled between 1-4 p.m. They did not arrive until after 6 p.m. The driver said he would not haul the old bed unless I paid him $20.00. I had to move the 2 bed pieces myself. When they finally finished and left, I got in bed only to find that the frame was not assembled properly. One leg is bent which makes the mattress slide off. The frame makes loud rattling noise every time I move in the bed. I phoned the store to ask about having someone come to fix the frame and was told I needed to take pictures and e-mail them to the store before they would schedule a person to fix the frame. Please go elsewhere for more professional and reputable service. I will NEVER patronize this store again or recommend to anyone at all. read more

We had a great experience working with Larry Hazzard as our salesperson. We described exactly what we were looking for and Larry quickly helped us find the exact leather sectional replacement we were hoping to find. He wasn't the typical pushy salesperson. He let us look around and was right there when we were ready to check out. The checkout process went very smoothly and we were lucky to get a great deal over Presidents' Day weekend. We were also able to get the new sectional delivered in just 3 days! And the dogs love it too - the most important part, of course :) Upon delivery, one of the end pieces had staple punctures in it. While the deliverymen weren't very knowledgeable, I called the store and they arranged a replacement shipment within the week. We also had not gotten any paperwork on our Pure Promise warranty. The customer service person in the Baltimore store arranged for a kit to be sent out which included leather cleaner and conditioner and instructions for cleaning. We were also emailed the warranty information. Again, the customer service process was very smooth. I hadn't been to VCF before. I was surprised by how large it was and how many unique items they had to choose from. I definitely plan to go back next Presidents' Day weekend to seek out Larry to buy my daughter a bedroom set! Purchased a sectional with chaise in 2016 and the fabricated leather is peeling called value city thinking they would offer some assistance but none was given. I did not buy the warranty but from what I gathered from the customer service rep that doesn't cover peeling. Paid about $975 for the fabricated leather couch with a chaise and I have made purchases in the past, before I called I did some investigating apparently this type of furniture from value city has had the same problem if you google "peeling furniture from value city" there are a ton of posts. The customer service rep also admitted that it is a common problem. This is a common problem but no one is liable and it's the customers loss. This furniture gets very minimum wear and tear and this is just three years it's basically destroyed because they are selling a horrible product. Even though value city is not going to do anything to help the situation and it's $975 dollar loss I figured I could at least tell customers about my situation and Inform them how if you buy this furniture it's at your loss. The company gave no care or concern also the fact I was thinking of buying more furniture before this situation and I have a value city credit card that I now will never use. I wouldn't buy furniture from value city if they were selling at a 75 percent discount. This is a truly terrible store. DO NOT GO HERE! First of all, their selection and service are awful. I went to this store, but their showroom was horrible and no one ever spoke to me (I instead bought furniture from the White Marsh location which has much better service and a better showroom, but White Marsh arranged my delivery through this location, which created a headache). When my delivery came, the delivery team said they wouldn't try brining my dresser in unless I signed a waiver allowing them to damage my home and furniture. I measured again and showed them there was plenty of room to bring in my furniture, but they continued to refuse without the waiver. I then refused the bedroom set, but accepted the dinette and TV stand. After the delivery team left, I was setting up my TV, and found that the TV stand was damaged. The damage was on the interior shelves, which the delivery team had installed. Someone tried to use a marker to color in the damaged area and said nothing to me! I called later to address the issue. We'll see how that turns out. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE! The White Marsh store is much better and, though they might route your delivery through this store, at least you can talk to White Marsh if issues arise. UPDATE: Don't be misled by the comment below - Value City never followed up with me to address the issue. They apparently just post comments like these to make it appear that they are responsive. Also as an update, I've had a lot of headaches with the White Marsh store, too. It's a better store, but if you have problems after your purchase, they pretty much hang you out to dry. read more

I was pleasantly surprised! After reading reviews I expected the worst customer service. I walked in, knowing exactly what I wanted to look at. I was greeted immediately and I asked that gentleman if he was working with someone already, he politely said he was. I took another ten steps and was greeted again. Same question was posed but he wasn't currently helping anyone; great, Mike is my guy. I showed Mike the sku # of the item I wanted to see. I was buying my father a recliner as a Christmas gift and had two picked out. Mike quickly located the chair, I looked at it, sat on it, reclined it and liked it. I told him I would take it. Mike explained a warranty, I accepted and checked out in just a few minutes. It doesn't get any easier than that! I found the store to be clean, well organized and had a great selection. The salespeople were well dressed and very polite. Lastly, this store isn't in a great area. Walking through the door looking to buy something perhaps you're treated differently than someone, say, that walks in pulls out their cell phone, lays down on one of the couches and makes a phone call. I honestly watched a handful of people lay around on the furniture on a phone as if they were at home. Perhaps these are some of the bad reviewers that claim to have received poor customer service. If you enter the parking lot looking for Value City Furniture, the front entrance faces the side of Lowes. There is a sign on the side of the building facing Rt. 40 that can be misleading. There is a single door under the sign, but it remains locked and you can't access the store. Your only option from there are the steep set of steps to the front door. I went back for pick-up a few days later and was completely satisfied. To the left of the front doors you'll see a roll up style door for picking up your purchase if you're not having it delivered. Open the door next to that and show them your receipt. I patiently waited with a handful of others as they bring your items out. I was in and out in ten minutes. Keep up the good work VCF! read more

Everyone else I encountered at this store was rude, disrespectful and unhelpful. I was put on hold multiple times, hung up on multiple times and told there was no one that could help me multiple times. Coordinating delivery was even difficult because the dispatcher could barely read(no pun intended), using the excuse that she's bad with streets(which had nothing to do with completely misspelling, pronouncing and confirming my address) the employees that came to deliver did their job and brought the couch to my studio and assembled it. Couch was a piece of shxt, flimsy, uneven and came with no legs lol. Nothing like the demo model i tried before purchase. Of course the delivery driver said he would leave the couch and bring the rest of the materials that evening but fortunately I'm smart enough to know that wasn't going to happen so I sent the couch back immediately and refused to accept it. Took me 1-2weeks to actually talk to someone with a brain and had to demand a refund. The supervisor that I talked to never gave me a title so I had no clue who I was talking to then wanted to debate with me about why she doesn't need to tell me her title. The manager that processed my refund was kind, patient and did not try to debate me tho, much respect for her patience because i know its got to be tough running a business with her current employees. I purchased a bedroom set October 27,2020. I understand that we are in a pandemic and items are getting delayed. However, I have now been waiting for my furniture for about 6 months! Most lease term are 12 months, this was my 1st apartment and I just hope I receive all of my furniture before my lease is up! Value city has not been apologetic or willing to accommodate me. Yes, they reversed the delivery fee. But that was after the 3rd delay! So far we are on the 6th delay and nothing has been done. I went inside the store to see if they could give me absolutely anything else and they would not. This is absolutely ridiculous!! I also received a partially bedroom set and currently still waiting on two more pieces. I did not pay partially so my furniture shouldn't come in pieces. I would have given 4 stars for my initial interaction with Kevin Buckson at the VCF in Gwynn Oak at 5840 Baltimore National Pike on 8/1, after purchasing a Left-Facing Chaise in MODA-GRAY for my birthday. I am being very specific about this because of how absolutely terrible my experience has been since. Can I give this 0 stars? I wish I could. If Mr. Buckson had keyed in my purchase - a LEFT-facing chaise - correctly in the first place, I would not be writing this two weeks later with no chaise and nothing good to say about the experience thus far. I say "thus far" because the experience isn't over yet. We were initially supposed to pick up the Chaise on 8/3. We picked it up, brought it home, and it was the WRONG chaise. RIGHT-facing, not LEFT-facing. We called the store to let them know of the error, and the person there assured us that the right piece would be ordered and we could pick it up the Tuesday after, 8/7. We wanted free delivery for our trouble, and were told that a manager would call us back. No call Friday. No call Saturday (though we really didn't expect one), so by the time I got home from work on Monday, we made the call to the CS line to see what was going on, and a very nice lady told us that the man we had spoken to on 8/3 had never put the order in. She was going to get us all buttoned up, though! She put the order in, made sure our deliver would be free, and the LAF-CHAISE MODA-GRAY would be delivered on Thursday, 8/9. Delivery day! Truck shows up, I am at work, my partner is handling everything like like a boss. I get a text about midday letting me know that the piece has arrived, but never made it through the front door because IT'S STILL A RIGHT-FACING CHAISE. Nice-customer-service-lady screwed the pooch just like everyone else. We are hopping mad. CS is called again, and **another** arrangement is made to have this corrected. LEFT-FACING Chaise, free delivery, 10% off the purchase. Delivery 8/15. I am NOT happy with this, but I want my damn chaise by this point. Today is 8/15. Delivery was supposed to be at 7:30am. It's now 9:07am as I'm writing this. There's no truck. My order tracking says that the LEFT-FACING chaise is ready for pickup. I am livid. I had to wake my partner up early ON HIS BIRTHDAY so we could make ANOTHER call to CS to try and have this straightened out. Never. Again. read more

My sales consultant, Kenny was really awesome and patient. I only needed a new dining room set and I ended up getting a home theater system. But I love it and got it for a steal with the warranty on it. The delivery was a bit off as I never got a call to set up an appointment and they randomly came to my home and no one was there, however, they fixed it fast and got me delivery first thing in the morning on Saturday. The delivery crew were awesome and I am now a satisfied customer. read more
