I wish we had never heard of this company. The install of the french drains and sump pump went horribly. They promised they would not break through asbestos tiles, but instead carefully lift them. They blasted right through the asbestos tiles requiring us to talk to a remediation company and do a safety clean up (though they insisted that wasn't necessary when we complained and accused us of trying to bleed them for unnecessary expenses -- we had not even asked them for a dime, and they were the ones who broke an explicit promise to us). They left open gaps in the cement after covering the french drain that we had to have addressed after they left (after confirming with this company that they would not accuse us of voiding the warranty if we did) and totally destroyed the efficacy of our radon mitigation sytem, which they said nothing to us about when inspecting the site to provide their workplan and estimate before the install. They claimed not to see it, but the radon system has bright red labels all over it and was in plain sight for both the inspection and while the guys were doing the work. Ray Charles would have seen it. So, we've had to pay more to address that. Insult to injury, our security system picked up one of their guys looking through our stuff in the basement, and when we complained about that, the owner made implicit threats about how we would ruin a relationship in which we may need them to come make repairs to our system in the future if we told anyone about it. As others have mentioned, he also offered us $100 to not post bad reviews. We didn't take the money, but others might, so careful on relying on reviews for this company. Spare yourselves. Even though the owner of the company, Brian Seligman, tried to bribe me with $100 for me to "not write a negative review and ruin our reputation," I feel it's my responsibility to let future potential clients know the mistakes Basement Innovations made in dealing with our property. Although Basement Innovations did the work they were contracted to, they took 3 days longer than promised, even though we informed them beforehand how tight our timeline was and that we had other contractors scheduled for immediately after they were done. As a result of their delay, we had to reschedule 3 other contractors and push back our house listing by another week. Ultimately, this resulted in us having to pay another month's mortgage on our house when we wouldn't have needed to otherwise. After having 6+ companies provide estimates to install a French drain, we hired Basement Innovations. Their quote was the most affordable, but more importantly their employee who I was speaking with, Chris Cunningham, promised me via phone and via text that they could most likely get the work done in one day, but if not it would only be a couple of hours the following morning. I told Chris that we were preparing our house to sell, so we were on a tight timeline, and that 24 hours after they finished the waterproofing (how long they told us it would take their concrete to dry), we had 3 different contractors consecutively scheduled to immediately install drywall (Thursday), install flooring (Friday), and painting (Saturday), and each of these were scheduled dependent on the waterproofing work getting done on time. He agreed that that timeline was fine.  I called Chris around 12 pm the day they started (Tuesday) and he said everything was going well and he thought they would be done that day. At 6:45 pm, I still hadn't received any further updates, and I contacted Chris again. He said he would check in and get back to me. An hour later, at 7:35 pm, I messaged him again and he finally responded, saying that they didn't finish and they would be done Friday at 12. I told him that this was unacceptable, since it would delay our other 3 contractors. . Chris told me "this stuff happens" and "there's nothing I can do." I called the owner of the company, Brian Seligman, who essentially shrugged his shoulders and said "Sorry, but I can't do anything about it." He elaborated that he actually doesn't employ his own staff to do the work, but rather contracts out, and the contractors weren't available until Friday to finish. I told him that I was promised by Chris it would be finished by Wed at 12 and he said "Well, he shouldn't have said that to you." I said that it was his responsibility to schedule for several hours the next day if they even slightly suspect it may take that long, and Brian told me that my property's large footer size (what they said took so long) was a rarity that "never happens." If it "never happens," why did Chris tell me beforehand that it may take the next morning as well?  As a result of Basement Innovations poor scheduling, communication, and inability to properly staff for the work they signed a legally binding contract for, we had to push back all of our other contractors and delay listing our house by a week. We sold our house immediately but we ended up having to pay for another month's mortgage when, if we had been on our original schedule, we wouldn't have needed to otherwise. Based on these timeline issues, we would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

Received a call/email minutes after leaving an inquiry on their site as well as Yelp. The caller was friendly. The moment I noted that we had no basement leak, just needed to replace a very old sump pump, he recommended that we contact a plumber instead of waterproofing companies for better prices. Basement Technologies was one of 3 waterproofing companies I received quotes from. My primary contact was Mike Doolittle. I chose BT because of their excellent communication and response times. Every time I had a question for Mike he promptly answered it via phone or email. His response time and consistency was the best of the 3 companies I solicited. BT's pricing also came in slightly less than the rest of the competitors. The job itself was very uneventful. The crew was great and worked extremely fast. They started at 0800 and were finished by 1300. My only complaints are: I was told they would set up a vacuum/suction fan that would draw out most of the dust caused by the jackhammering. They never set up this fan and the basement was left extremely dusty. Luckily I hung plastic sheeting over the doors to the other rooms so the dust was contained within the work area. Also I was told they would only take about 3 feet of drywall off and 2-3 feet of framing off. They actually take drywall and framing off up to the ground level which in my house was almost 6 feet. This left me with more drywall work than I was anticipating. About 2 weeks after the job I was painting my new walls and noticed a small hairline crack in the concrete slab. This crack was located in a corner where they had dug the trench. It was about 18" long and ran diagonally from one trench to the other, essentially cutting off a corner of my slab. I took pictures and sent them to Mike in an email. I asked about the severity of the crack and what could be done about it. I never heard back from that email. I took the pictures to the local hardware store where the manager told me it didn't look like a big deal and had me fill the crack with cement crack filler. In closing, I am satisfied with the work, price, and scheduling of Basement Technologies. If I had to do it again I would probably have hired a firm that finishes all the way to hung and sanded drywall. Finding a drywall contractor to repair the damage they left behind was more expensive than I had anticipated. read more

The guy who scheduled my appointment and the sales rep, Mike Doolittle were great. They dropped my price $700 after applying a special and cut me a break, so the price was reasonable. They also claim to offer financing for 18 months no interest...what it ended up being is me applying for a new credit card with only 14 month no interest. I was disappointed when the workers came to install my sump pump. The first thing two of the contractors did when they walked in to my house was blow up my bathroom, back to back. Then the main contractor told me they would be covering my belongings with tarps/dropclothes....the only thing they covered were the floors going in and out. My basement was covered in dust and some even made its way upstairs to the living room. They also damaged my wallpaper decal on the adjoining wall where they were working even though I was told they would be careful to preserve it. Lastly the concrete they laid out was pretty uneven and made it a little difficult as I had to repair the frame and drywall myself. One thing to note is that they dont do the complete job in replacing the drywall, insulation, and framing once the job is done. Granted, they let you know this upfront, but unless your handy or have money to shell out for someone else to repair the wall...probably not for you. read more

For a year whenever we had a heavy rain I noticed rain seeping beneath the basement shower. It was a fiberglass shower stall that was lifted off the floor just a little bit. I would mop it up and it wouldn't cause any large problems. We decided it was time to have this fixed since it seemed to be getting worse. I got three estimates and theirs was the best for the job. The team removed the shower stall to put in a drain along one whole wall of my house. Thankfully the rest of the wall is in an unfinished portion of the basement so it didn't affect any of the finished portion other than the shower in the bathroom. They came on time and worked quickly. They were done before the estimated time and left the basement clean. For the past 15 days we have had rain every single day. Sometimes heavy, sometimes light but I have been watching the basement and there isn't any moisture coming in at all. They definitely did a great job. Had a crack in our basement wall/foundation that was letting water in any time there was significant rain. Sent pictures to Basement Innovations (previously Basement Technologies), they were quick to provide an estimate with lifetime warranty (of the structure, not the owner). The guys drilled extra room for water to drain, repaired the crack, and placed a large plastic covering over the work. This was the 5th company I got an estimate from, it was by the far the best price, and the sales/estimator that came to my home valued my time. He worked quickly and did not waste my time with a long sales pitch, something many of the other companies seem to do, even after reminding their sales person that I knew what I needed and didnt need the entire presentation. The installation team were pros, they were flexible when I asked for some extra time to get the space ready, even after they arrived. I chose Basement Innovations because of their online ratings and because Mike was really responsive. I had mold growing in my sump pump and was told I had a leaky foundation so I brought BI in to replace the sump pump and solve the foundation leak. They didn't actually solve the leak but created a "drainage" system to force water down the wall, into a french drain and then down into the sump pump. Sounds like an OK solution to a novice, but my mold expert and mold remediation company were both VERY unhappy with the solution -- and it failed a test which prevented us from moving back into the house. First of all, if you have a cinder block foundation, those blocks are porous so you really need to solve the leaking/wet foundation issue from the outside and keep those blocks dry. The water in the blocks creates a mold vapor which is toxic (especially to people with asthma/allergies, chronic immune conditions, etc.). BI runs a sheet of plastic over the cinder blocks on the inside of the house -- this creates a chimney effect for the vapor and puts it all into your house (yes, it comes through the drywall). So in the end I had to hire another contractor to waterproof from the outside AND I had to take down the plastic sheeting from the inside and seal all gaps in their solution with a radon-grade caulk to contain the water vapors. It's much more expensive to waterproof from the outside but it's the right way to do it. I used Drainage and Erosion Solutions for that -- they get 5 stars. read more

We hired Basement Innovations to deal with drain issue at the bottom of our outdoor basement steps. While it took them some time to come out and give an estimate, the process was painless and fast. Mike followed up pretty quickly afterwards with our options. After we settled on them, we had to wait a few weeks to schedule the work due to other jobs. I took the day off work to wait for the guys and got a call from an apologetic Brian that the crew had car issues. That was pretty annoying but they went out of their way to get the job done just a few days later (on a Saturday morning no less). The crew showed up early (I actually had to let them know they could start as they waited for the time they promised) and they got to work. The jackhammered out our existing base and drain (which took some time), put in the sump and related piping, etc., and laid the new concrete. The entire job took about 4 hours. They cleaned up the site and the whole setup has worked as designed since. The proposed work was much less costly and far more simple than others we received (no indoor work, no dealing with potential asbestos, etc.) and the work done is what was agreed. With few exceptions it was a pretty no frills interaction. I hope to never need a company like this again, but if I needed it, I would definitely use them again. read more

After noticing the carpet in the basement was wet, we called Basement Technologies to come out and ascertan the problem. In their inspection they immediately found a crack in the foundation that extended almost thru 3/4 of the basement foundation and through which the water was coming from during heavy rains. We were fortunate to have a crew out that week to repair the crack. Their crew was there on time and efficiently fixed the problem and we now have a dry basement. I have been remiss in providing a review for this contractor, this review should have been submitted long ago. The installation went pretty well. Unfortunately we had a lot of water that came into our basement. Jay suggested that we install two sump pumps instead of the just one we already had. I am glad he did. It had rained pretty hard for a few days before his crew arrived. When they started breaking up the concrete the water started pouring in, it was a real mess. When they drilled into the block walls the water literally shot out. They busted up the concrete, dug a trench, installed a filter barrier, laid drain tile, covered with stone, and then covered it all with new concrete. They also installed two sump pump tubs and sump pumps in opposite corners of the basement. Even though it was a real mess they did a great job cleaning up afterwards. I cannot say enough about this company's customer service, they have been great, they stand behind their work. I had a small leak appear in the center of our basement after a very heavy rain. I called Jay and he sent two men out to install an additional drain to the center of the basement at no additional charge. Yesterday I noticed a small amount of water on the basement floor, thinking it was water coming up through the floor I took a photo and emailed it off to Jay. Jay replied to my email within the hour. Before I could reply to the email he called me on the phone and wanted to know if he could come right over to check it out. He was there in about 30 minutes. As it turns out he found that the water was not coming up from the floor but from the floor above. Amazing customer service. I HIGHLY recommend Jay and Basement Innovations Waterproofing. read more
