The customer service was Sufficient. Unfortunately I found that I was missing 5 screws from my engine splash cover. I have found missing screws to the cover as a recurring issue with Valvoline in different parts of Massachusetts. The first time this occurred I had to replace my original engine splash cover. All you do is drive up and they will start working on your car -- yep, while you stay inside your vehicle the entire time. Jayden and Lonnie were assisting me with my service and they were nothing but kind, informative, and speedy. I appreciated their willingness to answer my questions & not try and up-charge me for anything, as this is a typical experience for some young girls. They charged $139 for an oil change, but they flushed the old oil and did not change to the new oil. I started having severe knocking noise almost immediately and took it to a mechanic. The mechanic checked using a diagnostics tool and discovered there was no oil in the car. Also, the oil cap was not properly closed. They also stole multiple bolts under the engine cover. Please, avoid this them if you can because they will scam you. read more

I came here for an oil change and they damaged my car. They didn't attach my belly pan on correctly after my oil change and it fell off my car and completely got destroyed. When I brought it back to their shop, they were not accommodating and didn't even apologize - they didn't even give me a refund on my oil change and they've been saying they'll replace my pan for the past 2 months, but have not. Everytime I call them on the phone to ask when they can fix it, they say the part will arrive by "next week" for the past 2 months. At this point I don't think they will ever fix my car and I got scammed. read more

When I pulled up, a female employee, black women with hat on, hair tucked in, was incredibly rude. I initially felt relieved as a black woman myself to see a woman there- made me more comfortable as I was pulling up. I guess I didn't pull in straight and she said, "You cannot be serious right now" with a straight face. I froze; I was caught off guard and and didn't understand why I was spoken to that way as a customer. It was my first time at Valvoline, I usually get my oil changed at my dealership which is now too far away for me to go to. The guys who did the oil change could see I was a bit nervous after how I was spoken to and embarrassed in front of the whole staff and being a young women- the guys were very nice throughout the oil change but that woman ruined my experience. Oil change itself was done in about 15 minutes, VIOC trademark fast. I don't mind sitting in the car while it's in the bay, but could understand why this may turn others off in temp extremes. It being my fourth Valvoline drive-up in the area, I do believe this experience was the most cumbersome. Tech scanned the wrong bar code for my VIN and ended up changing some other guy's record based on my driver door's part number. I made the catch, so we started the whole invoice creation process over. You're welcome, other guy. Then, they couldn't reset my check engine light, so that's still a thing. These two missteps more than doubled my onsite time to 40mins. Fine in a pinch, and I do appreciate Valvoline as a brand for fast oil changes, but this location wasn't as fluid as Brookline, Hanover or Camberville. read more

I've been coming here for years now to get my oil changed. They're extremely efficient and usually the process takes no longer than 15 minutes once they get started (assuming you've been there before and they have you in their system, otherwise it may be around 20-25 minutes). As with other places they try to upsell you on services so if it's your first time there (or you tend to get antsy to this sort of thing) what I do is just smile and say "i'm good, thanks!". That's usually enough to get them to focus on the task at hand. Also, they almost always check your engine and cabin filter so if they really push on replacing it (they show you and sometimes it is warranted), just say you'll do it yourself (it's not hard at all to replace). Once you navigate through their pitch you just sit back and relax! read more

I normally go to my auto shop in Quincy for everything but didn't have time to and was in a pinch to get my oil change ASAP before my drive to CT. Luckily, I found this Valvoline that was along the way and stopped by here given its proximity to the highway and the fact that a $10 coupon was emailed to me. I got here about 10:35am and there were already 6 cars there-3 that were being serviced and 3 waiting in the bay. The people there were on top of everything because as I was waiting in bay 3 and another car pulled up to bay 1 and was waiting and bay 1 opened up, they moved me over because I was there first. I can't tell you the number of times I've waited in line elsewhere and a register opens up and someone hops in that line without the associate realizing that I along with everyone else have been waiting and deserved to go first. Staff was fantastic-they showed me my filter, checked my tires and fluid levels, lights and transmission and walked me through step by step what they were doing. I was out by 11:10 (35 minutes total from wait to service), paid $34.91 after the $10 coupon plus taxes for a conventional oil change, and ready to go home. Shout out to the assistant manager, Natalie, and her colleague, Diego, for such great service. I will definitely be a returning customer because of them. Note: people, it gets busy. Yes, their turn around time is fast compared to most places but there are only so many bays available and so many staff members to service all of these cars. Don't be an entitled brat if you have to wait beyond 15 minutes upwards to 45-60 minutes from start to finish. They can't control how busy it gets and if you "have somewhere to be" well you should've been smarter and more responsible and planned better...just saying. read more

I have been getting oil changes at this Valvoline Location in Brighton MA for over 15 years. I have 3 cars and keep them all well maintained. I called and was told that the location was open until 5PM. Due to a construction project along the way, I arrived later than planned (430PM) at 4:44PM. At that time the store lights were out and 2 employees were skulking about the inside, as if they were trying not to be seen. Eventually one of the employees came out to speak with me. He was courteous and professional, and he explained that they had shut down the store at 4PM, despite the published website and phone info hours of 5PM. * I will not be going back to any vendor who is deliberately unreliable. (-1 *) I wasted over an hour of my time traveling to and from the location and still did not get an oil change. Had I known they were closed I could have instead gone to a nearby Jiffy Lube or scheduled an early morning Oil Change at my main mechanic / auto repair vendor which in this case is more reliable but generally takes more time. In the past I have used Valvoline for 3 reasons 1.) The employees were competent and courteous, 2.) THE WEEKEND HOURS ARE CONVENIENT SINCE I WORK 60+ Hours during the week, and 3.) In the past the value was acceptable, but recently the prices are much higher than my mechanic. I will not be back since you have wasted my time through your incompetence and lack of management. read more

This Valvoline location is great! It was my first time at this location (I always go to Valvoline, but usually elsewhere...) The manager, Bennu, was super friendly and helpful. He is a true gentleman with nice manners. Throughout my visit, he was professional and was very efficient.....I was out in 15 minutes! I heard Bennu speaking with anther woman who pulled in and he said "Hello! Nice to see you again". He seems to genuinely appreciate the business and let the customers know this! I usually change my own oil as long as it's not winter. When it's cold out and I don't feel like getting under the car in the freezing cold to change the filter and oil, I go to Valvoline. This is my first time going to this location (I've visited the Brookline and North Reading locations over the years to good results) and I definitely won't be back. With other locations I've been to, I'd be relatively confident in their work even if I was someone who knew nothing about cars. As someone who knows enough to do most fluid changes and minor maintenance, however, the Allston location seriously scares me. Sure, they really pushed the upsell at this location - but only for the oil, it seemed. After telling one tech that I didn't need windshield wipers as I had just changed them and not to bother looking at the air filter because it was clean, a second tech came over, asked the same questions, tried to upsell me on oil multiple times and when I said I want to continue to use the same oil I've been using at Valvoline and at home, she asked me to provide my own oil. A few seconds later I clarified that I still want their oil, I just don't want the synthetic they were trying to upsell me on. Moving on, I expected them to highlight a few things I knew were off. The easiest one to spot - I was missing a reverse light. Nope. They didn't catch the light. I imagine the attention to detail here is poor. I made mention multiple times that their spec for the amount of oil is almost a half quart too high. When the guy started to pump the oil in, he yelled out "4.5, right?". Nope. I had to speak up and correct him. The final kicker was when the tech changing the oil came to my window to show me the dipstick for the oil. Before he even reached my window, I knew he pulled the transmission fluid dipstick. So he's showing me the dipstick and I tell him that's not the oil, but the transmission fluid stick. Facepalm. He goes back under the hood and struggles to find the oil dipstick. I don't think the folks at this location have any idea what they're doing. Look elsewhere for a better experience. read more

Gster recommended me to go here based on his experience, and I can honestly say all my car worries are gone- I would suggest for anyone to come here, and even to go out of your way to go here! I drove right in, and they were able to do my oil change and tire rotation without getting out of the car! They brought the computer to the car to do all the paperwork, and walked me through what they were doing and various points of the process. It was clean, everyone was friendly, and they even have coupons online/ in email/ on yelp! The whole process took maybe 30-40 minutes. They followed up with an email documenting my work, and with my receipt. It made it all way too easy, stress free, and no more trauma. read more

don't go here if you're not a fan of credit/identity theft. I went there on friday morning before work. They forgot to give me back my credit card after the transaction. Not a big deal I would guess, just hold onto it or shred it at the very least. I called the next day when I realized the mistake. They said they didnt have it. I went online to cancel it and saw that somebody had decided to hit up Macy's and Walgreens to the tune of $119 at my expense. I cancelled the card and filed a report with the police. I went to get a quick oil change because I am always busy between work and school; I am never without my car. This place is great for oil changes. I drove in and ten minutes later it was done. I absolutely recommend anyone who needs an oil change to come here. BUT THAT IS ALL. That's why they are getting the 2 stars. The man who worked on my car told me he would check all of the car fluids and the tire pressure w/ the oil change. I thought that was great! Until he used it to tell me that my transmission was going to start to have problems if I didn't change the fluid soon. I asked how much it would cost, and then I had to ask again because I because I thought he said 149.99. That is actually what he said. I could buy a new pair of tires for that price! He also told me that my brake and steering wheel fluids were low as well and to replace it would be 49.99. Again, I can do both for about 20.00. I don't trust anyone to touch my car if they try to scare me into a purchase that is absurdly overpriced. Don't listen to their offers, just get a second opinion and or go somewhere else for anything more than a oil change. read more

Well, it started off to be a professional experience on my visit to this Valvoline on December 11, 2011, but that quickly faded. Manager Ben: "Have you ever been here before?" Me: "No" Manager Ben: "Ok, our basic oil change is $39.99 we top off all your fluids, check tire pressure, lights, filters, etc...is that ok?" Me: "Yes" And over walks my Service Rep: Adeana who takes my information. Fast forward 10 minutes. Adeana: "Your total comes to $58.99" I'm sorry...what? Long story short, Adeana told me because my car uses high mileage oil that it costs more...well...they should've told me that, and I explained that I will never return to this location, again. I was quoted and agreed to the $39.99 price. FYI: Firestone will do the same job and rotate your tires for $20.99 with a coupon down the street. Customer service FAIL! read more

I went here to get an oil change as I was due for one and it was on the way to where I was going. The service was quick and I pretty much sat in my car, answered a couple questions, and picked out what deal I wanted. Everything seemed fine and I would have recommended this place to anyone who asked me where they could get an oil change as it was quick and relatively cheap. That was maybe August/September of 2012. In January/February of 2013, I was driving my friend to a job interview in Providence and I noticed the oil light was on. Checked the oil, it was low, bought some from a gas station, put it in. Seemed fine. On the highway, light came on again. Stopped at a rest area, checked again, was low, bought more oil, put it in, continued on my way. At this point it's clear something is wrong but I have to get to my friend's interview on time so essentially, I would drive 10 minutes, get the oil light, add oil, and keep going. This was a pain in the ass as it was probably the coldest day of that winter. If you remember some day in January or February where it was ridiculously cold, this was the day this happened. Next day I take the car to the mechanic. He fixes it right up. Tells me whoever did the oil change on this car over-tightened the drain plug or something along those lines, leading to the giant leak. I told him about my trip to Providence and he was shocked my car didn't have any resulting engine damage. He said when I gave it to him, the car had no oil in it. I guess the leak was that bad. In any case, I'm not going to get my oil change from here again. I guess it may have just been my car, but thought it would be good to let other people know. Ended up having to pay a couple hundred dollars for what I initially thought was a cheap oil change. And if I hadn't been adding oil to the car every 10 minutes, I imagine it could have been much worse. read more

Just got back from a very pleasant experience. I'm a relatively new car-owner (I've always just drove my parents' cars) and this was my first time getting an oil change on my own. All the stations were full when I got there but I was next in line and waited maybe 5 minutes. They started with the basics, like checking the air in my tires, right away. After entering me into the system the guy there gave me a rundown of the different oil levels and also recommended that I get my transmission fluid and a filter changed. He gave me a complete explanation of how those parts of the car worked and why they need changing. I didn't feel like he was trying to sell me something I didn't need and opted to get both taken care of. I can't comment on pricing because I know very little about cars and have no frame of reference, but the total came to $200 for all the services after a $15 discount. I just moved to the area, but I always get my oil changed at valvoline locations. I came to this location expecting the same friendly service I received at the location I previously visited. I was not expecting the lecture I received on my car from one of the employees. They noticed I had no transmission fluid in my engine and filled it for me and checked for a leak. They did end up finding a small leak. The employee came to my window and asked me if I have read my owners manual. He said if I had I would have known that the transmission oil needs to be changed every 20,000 miles. I was also told that I should have researched my car before I spent "20,000 dollars on a thing" (my car did not cost that much). I was also told that I MUST have been told about this problem before and chose to ignore it. So in other words it was my fault there was a leak because I bought a car not up to standards and didn't read the owners manual cover to cover. When all was said and done it took about 45-60 minutes for everything on my car to be complete, and for me to feel totally stupid and humiliated. read more

Things seem to be going great until I drove off and had to pull off the highway. somehow the reservoir for my windshield wiper fluid was punctured and leaking . I just left them a few minutes ago. I was about 200 miles over my expected oil change, so I decided to finally stop slacking and get it done. I called a few places who were "all booked up" and then decided to take a trip about 3 minutes down the street to Valvoline. There were a few cars waiting, but it only took me about 5 minutes to get into the "garage." We discussed my options, and they told me what I would need with an older car like mine (we're talking over 150000 miles). I trusted them, simply because prices are clearly marked on the walls and they matched up completely. While I waited, I was added into their computer system, and my CSR explained what I was getting, what I should consider getting, and what I should get on my next trip. I love that they put down everything you discuss for future visits on your receipt. My CSR was super nice and kept me occupied during the 5 or so minutes it took to get everything done, and he tricked me into saying I was a student so that he could give me a student discount. All in all, a fast, pleasant experience. I will certainly be going back when it's time to get some more stuff done. **EDIT 2/8/10** Ok, so, I did go back. The thing is, the CSR who was previously really nice turned really creepy. I went in to get my coolant flushed. The thing is, the CSR (I can't remember his name at this point - older African American, one earring) began to make me REALLY uncomfortable. It started out as him having a show somewhere that I should go to, and then he decided that I really needed his MySpace, email, and PHONE NUMBER. Despite my insistence that I'm seeing someone (which I am not) and I likely won't call, he insisted that I call him that night until I finally was able to get out of there. Still, my coolant change went well, and they even changed my brake light that I didn't notice was out. I wasn't charged, but I suspect it's because the guy was trying to make nice. It's first come first serve here for oil changes. They do fine oil changes, but I wouldn't trust a place like this with anything more than that. I bought tainted engine oil and needed to get an oil change to clear the car. The car ran great afterwards and they were quick. I was fairly annoyed by how hard they were pushing other services and products, but that's to be expected at a place like this. I've been to both, and I prefer the one in brookline over this. You have to wait in the car while they do it here and it was blazing hot- not something I was expecting, but I should have looked more closely at their service structure before going. read more
