Stopped by Valvoline this morning for an oil change and a few other services. I have nothing but wonderful things to say. The service was efficient - I was in and out in no time. Plus the customer service I received was top notch. Damian, Isaiah, and Fabian were the team helping me today. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and got me back on the road quickly. No sales tactics or pressure. They notified me of recommended services and let me decide what I wanted completed. I really appreciated that. Overall, I had a great experience. I came in with a Groupon for an oil change. Everything was good until they charged me an extra $117. I was told that my car type required extra oil, so there was an extra charge. The extra charge is fair. The issue I have was that they didn't let me know BEFORE I got the oil change. I asked them why I wasn't made aware of this prior to the oil change, I was told that it is my responsibility to know the price and pay. When I asked "you don't tell the customer how much an oil change cost?" They said, "no, we NEVER tell a customer how much it is for an oil exchange. We just expect them to pay." It seems like this is a common issue as they have the Groupon fine print printed and highlighted. Knowing this is an issue, I don't understand why they are not upfront about the extra cost. When I told them that it isn't very good customer service. The manager came over to tell me just pay, so I can leave, implying that they'll just lock me in until I do so. When I told them that I'm not coming back to this place. He said "GOOD. We don't like people like you anyway". I'm not sure if he's implying my Groupon usage or my race. Lastly, when they were changing my oil, I heard "Oh shit". I'm guessing they probably damaged something and didn't let me know either. Overall, my oil change came out to $180, including my Groupon discount, which is laughable. My BMW dealer charges $99 with trained technicians that they know what they're doing (without the "oh shit"). I would NOT recommend coming here for the overprice or customer service (the lack of). read more

They have lost a long time customer (for ten years). Two issues this last time-one , they "forgot" to give the groupon discount on any additional services purchased and when this was pointed out said they couldn't credit me but on the spot but mention it next time and they will remember. Sure... Second...and more importantly.....they put my oil pan cover back on incorrectly!! was going out with my son later that day and we hear a metal on ground sound. Its my oil pan cover falling off the car!! No way was I going to bring it back to them to fix this...shout out to VIP down the street who put it back on correctly! read more

Tried to get my oil changed here the other day. It took them twenty minutes to tell me they couldn't open the hood and I needed to see a mechanic. Got home and had it open in less than a second. So either they couldn't figure it out or were being lazy and didn't feel like changing my oil. Either way, I'm not coming back here ever again. read more

I'm unimpressed with the Brookline, MA Valvoline Instant Oil Change, and I would NOT return to this establishment. First, their price for an all synthetic oil change is about $30.00 more than the Subaru dealership that we frequent. Imagine that. I think that's crazy. At the Subaru dealership, you are assured factory trained personnel, a manufacturer service facility, manufacturer parts (e.g. oil filter), and the dealer is $30.00 less than Valvoline Instant Oil Change, where their personnel profess to be expert in all types and manufacture of automobiles (not just one manufacturer (e.g. Subaru)). There is something very wrong with that formula and business proposition. Forget that! Second, I brought a Subaru, manufacturer, oil filter, with me, and offered not to take the Valvoline supplied one, but Valvoline took no money off the price of the oil change. I thought that was odd. I asked about that practice, and was told that they don't take any money off, if a customer supplies an oil filter. But, oddly enough, my invoice says that Valvoline supplied me with a Valvoline oil filter (that's odd, too). Third, my invoice of services performed says that the battery was topped off, that did not happen, nor was the windshield wiper reservoir topped off. Jeez, can't get that right? I don't know what to believe of these people. Did they really put a full synthetic oil in my car? I don't trust them. I thought given the neighborhood this outfit was in, that they might be accustomed to discerning customers, and their performance might be above average. Wrong. Finally, I am reminded of the number of fraudulent reviews online. When I searched Yelp for "Valvoline Oil Change," Boston, MA, I found several Valvoline Oil Change facilities in the Boston area, all with four Yelp stars. I find the authenticity of those reviews highly suspect. read more

I only get my oil changed here once or twice a year. They are fast, courteous, and thorough. They are not the least expensive compared to dealers and local gas stations, but I am happy to pay a premium to be finished in less than 15 minutes usually. Thank you. read more

I went in by myself for an oil change and was not looking for any other changes as nothing was wrong with my car. After assessing my car, they told me I needed my battery replaced. I am a young woman who was alone and really feel Ike they ripped me off. they made it seem like I really needed that battery at that moment and took advantage of the fact that I was alone and intimated me. I was in the store a few days later and saw car batteries for $65 while this cost me $229. I will not be coming back here. read more

Dont bother going here! I had purchased a groupon and told the associate. He stated its no good for 24 hours when ive gone here before. Anyway he was super rude. Its the employee with the dreads and was whispering rude comments as i was leaving the Valvoline!!! I understand it cant be used but thats not a way to treat a customer. I went to this Valvoline for an oil change and tire rotation. After they completed my tire rotation I was told there was a nail in my tire and I needed to go to a tire shop ASAP to get it repaired. I IMMEDIATELY went to a tire shop down the road from the Valvoline and when that tire shop tried to remove my tire they found that the lugs were misaligned on the studs and had been over tightened to the point that, in order to repair my tire, they needed to break the lugs and studs off. When I reached out to Valvoline to get reimbursed for the lugs/studs that had to be replaced due to their mistake of misaligning/over tightening I was immediately dismissed by the manager and was told there was "no way" they were misaligned or tightened. I have now tried to get in touch with the regional manager who has not called me back after almost a week of trying. I think this is terrible business practice. Maybe they can do a quick oil change but they messed up my tire, tried to gaslight me into thinking they didn't do anything wrong, and now will not get back to me. I will never go to Valvoline again if this is how they treat customers. read more

I would not recommend Valvoline for anything other than a standard oil change. They offer several other services that they probably shouldn't be performing. I was told that the charge on my battery was low and that they could replace it for me. I agreed and paid for a new battery. Soon after, my check engine light came on and my car was having issues. Thousands of dollars and multiple trips to the auto shop later, a mechanic discovered that the wrong size battery was put into my vehicle, and it was installed backwards! This error was causing parts around the battery to malfunction. The auto shop replaced it and I've had no issues since. Thanks Valvoline. (Not!!!) read more

Yeah, I'm torn about this place. I'll give them full credit..they're fast and well trained. They get through several important things quickly, and they have a very clearly established process. They even communicate well (I bet the ISO 9001 folks love this place). I'll go so far as to say this isn't just the most efficient oil change I've ever gotten, it's the most efficient thing that's ever been done too (or for) my car. But there are costs to that. The first is literally cost. It's pricey. For conventional oil I could find cheaper many places. But it's not just that...it's the hype patter. The schtick. The upselling that's a turn-off. And the worst thing is, as a marketer, I could see every step along the way being perfectly planned out. They present you with oil options going from most expensive to cheapest. They have two expensive options and then a less expensive option and then a cheapest option (which is all most cars need). And after mentioning all four they double back and "recommend" the middle option. Except they know that something like 80% of their customers won't take the most expensive option and don't like to think of themselves as cheap so won't take the least expensive, so will opt for the less expensive option thinking that they're getting a good deal and not looking like a cheapskate in front of their new friends who are being so attentive to them and their car needs. I took the mid-range/less expensive option. And I didn't need it. And as soon as I pulled out I thought about how much I just paid and felt like a total schmuck. But it's not just that. It's all the extras they want to do. And how they take information from you right then to use against you. "What's your mileage? Well according to my computer and the recommendations from your manufacturer you need this and this and this. Oh you don't want all that? Well you should at least get this because this one is really important." I was in the place for approximately 8 minutes and spent 4.5 of those either being pressured to get something else or guilted into it. "Are you sure...because this is really important." I won't hold the overcharging against this place, because it really is amazingly efficient and I can see charging extra for speed/efficiency/quality service. But as to the rest of it, I'm honestly not sure I wouldn't rather go somewhere to sit in a crappy waiting room for an hour and be done with it, as opposed to the 10 minute reprogramming/emotional abuse session that I have to overpay for. I shouldn't complain this much. If you're in a hurry and want a quick oil change and don't mind paying a little more for it, this really is a terrific place. But BE PREPARED before you even pull in. If I ever go back I'll just hand them my credit card, say "Conventional oil, please" and then stick my fingers in my ears and say "Nah Nah Nah I can't hear you" until they're done. I honestly wasn't sure if I should write a review but I think the experience is worth noting. I've been going here for oil changes since I moved to the Boston area over four years ago and have never had a incident until today. Today I went in expecting an oil change and instead received homophobic remarks. Here's the story: as I was sitting there the mechanic (John), working the computer next to the bay my car was in, calls over to my mechanic (Helder, at least that Is the name printed on my receipt) and says "looks like we've got a code 306! Hahaha". Helder looks confused and says its just an oil change, prompting John to come over and after glancing at me goes "no it's a code 306" *metaphorical nudge nudge*. Again Helder is confused so John leans in, glancing again at me , and whispers something to which Helder responded "you can't say that John", John laughs, "Not cool man. That's not funny". John walks away looking a bit chastised. What is code 306 you might be wondering? It's the error code that comes up when not all pistons are firing properly in the engine. As all of my car's pistons were in fact fine, I can pretty easily connect the dots. I do genuinely appreciate Helder for being a good guy and being strong enough to speak out, especially to a coworker who you see every day. It surely would have been easier for him to stay silent, give some noncommittal remark but instead he stood up for what was right. Commendable, someone raised him right. I've had great service in the past but after that remark I'm not sure I feel entirely comfortable going back. Would love for Valvoline's management to have a conversation with their staff about respect, diversity, and customer service. read more

I purchased a Groupon and couldn't find my email. The women taking the information from me purposely made it difficult for my to redeem my group and came up with one reason after another why I couldn't redeem. I fee that she was being condescending and rude because I am white. She was impatient and kept sucking her teeth at me for not being able to find my email. If this how customer are treated at this location often? I never write bad reviews but this warranted one. I will never go back there as long as this woman is working. Needed to get my oil changed and this place around the corner from my apartment was perfect. I was literally in-and-out in 15 minutes just like they advertise! They changed my oil, refilled my vehicle fluids, checked everything under the hood and all within a short amount of time! Very friendly staff and they were helpful in explaining certain things to me about the free services they offer and when I would need to come in for another change. Also, I didn't even need to leave the car which was a huge plus. You literally just drive into the garage, sit back, relax, and wait. I bought a brand new car, and as all cars do when you use then out of their newness, she needed an oil change. I have a Mazda, and that needs a synthetic oil change. It costs more but it lasts longer between changes. I came in, was seen in a reasonable amount of time, and went on my way. I noticed some issues with it not responded as well as it had, but didn't think too much of it until I get an email from the company. Not only were they so excited to have me come back as a customer, they decided to mention that I had been given conventional oil last time. On my 80 dollar oil change. Really? You charge me for synthetic, damage my car, defraud me, and then send out a corporate email asking me to come back and get it done again? No flipping thank you. I visited this place for the first time today, and left a very happy customer. The employees were friendly, informative and speedy. I don't know tons about all cars, but I know my car and what it needs, and they were on the same page with me on everything I mentioned. They showed me the results of fluid tests before actually doing anything, and they kept me very involved in the process. I highly recommend this place. I can even forgive them for the Wizard of Oz joke (I've heard roughly 4 billion times) in regards to my Kansas plates. I suppose that's to be expected out here! read more

This review is more about their professional conduct than anything else. They do a fine oil change like everybody else. But, they don't seem very ethical in the least. I had found an online coupon for a $19.99 oil change. I called, gave the guy on the phone the code, and he said "Don't worry about the code. We can do it for $20." I arrived, mentioned this to the first person I saw, and he said "Oh, you're the guy who called. Yeah, come on in." Next thing I know, the lady ringing me up (Asst. Manager Samantha, I think) says she can't do it for $20, the cheapest she can give me is for $33 (using one of their own $10 off coupons). This is the kind of thing that really pisses me off. I don't like being screwed, and feel like it's definitely not a way to run a business. I used to come here often because it's nearby and has decent hours. But putting customers first, especially when there are countless other oil change spots nearby, should obviously be a priority. Too bad this is lost on some people. I just had a great experience at this location. I rolled up really on accident--there is a Midas close by that was closed--and ended up getting half-off during a customer appreciation special. The staff was friendly and answered all my questions. In about 10 minutes I had working turn signals again, and they gave instructions to get a new air filter and offered to put it on free-of-charge since they didn't have one in stock. Now that I know that Valvoline offers top-off services, and this location has a rad lady working in the shop, I'll be back! After years of aggressive upsells and meanies at oil change spots (I don't know anything about cars and they can smell my fear, I think), I really left super enthusiastic and happy. I just went in there today and for an "instant" oil change place it was good. I usually go to my mechanic, but felt quite sure that my engine would explode at any second, so I just came here because it was close to work. I echo the sentiments of others, I appreciated that they didnt try to upsell me. Manager was very friendly, I asked for new airfilter, balked at the (relatively cheap) price and they gave me an additional $5 off. So with my 2005 Jeep I was out of there for oil change, new airfilter (and all the other BS like checking fluids) for $55. Not an amazing price, but it was fair enough. This location may be a bit difficult to access, but the service is always top notch, and I've had zero problems. Tire rotation would be a plus, but that's a corporate thing, not just this location. I would recommend this location to anyone in the area who doesn't have the time or facilities to do their own fluid jobs. Another thing to note is Valvoline offers complimentary top-offs, which is great if you run through washer fluid, burn oil a bit, or anything like that. i come here every 3000 miles. it progressively has got worse. the time before last they gave me a sticker with 10,000 moles difference to return for my next oil change. now they didn't check my headlights, one of the windshield whipers i had bought broke off. the windshield fluid is like water. the ppl that work there are rude and unfriendly. with an exception of 2 employees. a man with a southern accent is allway nice. the manager was a prick. i had ask about the price. since i pay almost $60 for a oil change.. i wanted to make sure it wasnt more. they used to show me the new oil filter and put air in the tires and check lights. btw my headlight needs to be changed i was screwed out of almost $60 because half of the services werent completed. 1!photo read more

I have had my oil changed twice here and the transmission fluid. Both were in the middle of the day on Friday. They receive a lot of business so sometimes there isn't a wait, sometimes you wait 5 minutes which isn't bad at all. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The price is what it is for conventional oil and transmission fluid, I always use a coupon. They check the tire pressure, lights and air filters and will explain to you why an air filter needs to be replaced or why transmission fluid should be replaced and aren't too aggressive about it. Gave me wrong directions. Insisted that my car needs an expensive oil -- charged over twice what my usual oil change costs, but I had to be in&out in a hurry so I let them bully me into it. This expensive oil is supposed to be good for 5000 miles, they said, but only put a 3000 mile sticker on the car. So they expect me to come in 2000 miles early to get another expensive oil change. I have been coming since this place opened years ago. I have had ups and downs coming here but to i am so irritated. The website clearly states that they close today at 5pm so there i was as i saw the asst. Manager Steve come out of an office look at me and go back in. Waited a few more minutes when another car pulled up for an oil change. Then this little guy comes out and says that they close at 2pm. I told him that the website states 5pm. He gave me a look and said well we are closed the other driver was confused too. It's a shame I am done with this place. I am going to look into calling the corporate office to file a complaint.
