3rd time the didn't secure skid plate on our Honda!! Thought I would give them benefit of the doubt but never again. They also don't take drain plug out the suck oil out from top of motor. Drove here to get an oil change and was turned away because my car wouldn't fit over their new lift. I asked if/why 5 inches of ground clearance wasn't enough.... The employee just kept insisting that he wasn't turning me away but also kept insisting the car wouldn't clear. Um kind of a contradiction but ok.... So I took a picture of the Ford Focus ahead of me over said life and found that the lift is the Devon RIZR 9k pit lift. To quote the RIZR description from their website: "You'll be able to accommodate just about any vehicle coming in for service. No need to turn away profitable business..." I called their sales department and asked what minimum ground clearance was for a car. Two things worth noting: 1. The best option is to install these lifts so they are sunken into the pit and vehicle ground clearance is no longer an issue. Valvoline didn't do that. 2. Otherwise, any car with 5 inches of ground clearance shouldn't have a problem. So yes, ladies and gentlemen, me, my car with its 5 inches of ground clearance was turned away by Valvoline. But then again, do I really want someone changing my car's oil if they can't measure something? ps - the ground clearance for the Ford Focus varies from 4.5 to 6.5 inches, depending on the model year. read more

Turns out the gas station I went to for my previous "oil change" did a hack job, and maybe didn't even actually change my oil!!!! SCAM! Went in with my Toyota Corolla to do an oil change. Staff was very kind, no issues there. When they went to change my oil, they told me they could not remove the oil filter because the threads had been stripped by whoever changed my oil last. They told me I would need to go to a mechanic to have the filter chipped off. After talking with some colleagues, they suggested I try to get it changed somewhere else because generally there are tools that exist to get the oil filter out if the threads are stripped. A few days later, I went to a Jiffy Lube, and they let me know that the oil filter was in perfectly fine condition, and they could remove it with no issues. The filter did not have stripped threads like they told me at this location. Instead, as they explained to me at Jiffy Lube, for Toyotas specifically there is a distinct oil filter wrench needed to take out the filter. At this Valvoline location there were two employees working on my car, and it seems neither of them knew this. Overall, they were respectful and communicative, topped off my fluids and changed my cabin filter. But, in the end, they did not know how to perform a basic service on my car, which is disappointing. read more

Never post reviews, but experience here was so bad I felt compelled. My skid plate fell off after an oil change, nearly causing a crash on the highway because it wasn't reattached correctly. When I called, they had me come back in to reattach a new skid plate. All seemed fine until my next oil change elsewhere when I was informed they'd used the wrong screws and stripped the holes, making it impossible to reattach. Save yourself a headache and go elsewhere. read more

I love getting my oil changed at Valvoline because you don't have to get out the car, this one particularly is just across the street from my house so it's very convenient I am in and out. The one thing I don't like is where it's kind of located to pull in it's right off the highway so sometimes it could be tricky depending on how the traffic is. So I just popped into this joint cause my biffile lives right across the street and I needed some work done. The START.......Drove my car in it was about 4:40 wasn't sure of their hours but they took me in. The gentleman that helped me (Craig) was very friendly, displayed great customer service and was very knowledgeable. I tell him what I need and he says sure thing. Was very accommodating and helpful. He told me I didn't even have to get out the car that it would take 15min. That is a first for me, I always wait forever when getting an oil change. I come back to my car 15mins later and everything was done. They topped off everything, did the oil change, coolant, air filter and cabin filter. Helder was the gentleman I spoke too upon arriving back he also rang me up. He was super cool as well, explained everything they did to the car in full detail. He also explained everything I would need to follow up with and when to go back. If there is one thing I can guarantee about this place is that they have great staff, The manager that conducts the hiring should be praised cause it shows that he/she knew exactly the type of character they wanted in the shop. There was even a gentleman working on another car who was just very friendly, making jokes with us. The prices for what I had done were a lil steep but then again anywhere you go it would prob be the same. They offer Military Discounts so if you are or were a service member you might want to check that out. Based on the customer service provided I would def give this place my stamp of approval. I swore i'd never go into another valvoline again after my first experience at the chelsea location. 4 years later, I found myself once again in another situation where i needed an instant oil change due to a long drive ahead of me after work, and i needed somewhere i can get this done at within 30 minutes. I went to my nearest valvoline (this location) went on their website, found a coupon and went during rush hours. Luckily, they were fully staffed, working fast and efficiently and their customer service was on point. I have been to Valvoline both pre-and during pandemic and I will say their service has not changed one ounce. They are taking many COVID precautions such as frequent handwashing, masking, making sure to keep the area well ventilated, and I was the only car in at the time. I had my oil change last week which was very quick and efficient, and a few days later I started noticing a sound when I would turn on my defroster. I just went back today and not only did they find the source (acorns fell when they checked my filter), but they removed the source for free. Not sure if the older guy with the salt and pepper beard and mustache that works Tuesdays at around 1:45pm knows how to hear, read or do a little simple math but my oil change sticker (chage due Aug) and my odo were 1000+ over miles. I'm honestly sick and tired of going to Valvoline and get an oil change and then they checked the air on my tires. I don't even want them ever touching my tires again. Every single time I go there they never put my air valve caps back on the tires and I asked them to make sure that the caps were put on and they said yeah and I drove out And when I got home and checked, two tires did not have caps. I wouldn't care if it were the cheap air valve caps but it's not the cheap ones I buy custom-made ones and every single time at Valvoline. They never put it back on!! Sometimes the smallest thing can piss off a customer. But that's a small price I get for trying to save money. Let's not forget a couple years ago I came to the same Valvoline and they put the wrong oil in my car. And on top of it, you guys didn't even check to see what my tire pressure was and you put the wrong air pressure on my tires. read more

These guys are amazing! My partner's car burns through oil, so when we pulled up for an oil change they looked him up in the system and said he could go another 2k miles before a change and offered to just top it off (saving $50). Most times I've gotten my oil changed, they have figured out how to charge me a ton MORE, not save me money! Then, when they checked it to top it off, they realized the PCV valve needed to be replaced and might be the root of the oil-burning problem-- they not only told us where to grab the part, but told us just to go buy the part and bring it back so they could put it in for free. They even showed us the old one and explained why it was clogged and contributing to the problem. As someone who has had numerous experiences of being overcharged and oversold by mechanics many times over, I truly value this honest and thoughtful approach, and even though this location is several miles from our house, we will make sure to come back to this location as well as recommend it to others! I have been here twice now. It seems like a pretty good place. It is a nice quick oil change each time. Both times they have suggest additional services that are due. Seems like all oil change places do that. I am never sure about these upsells, so I usually just politely say I will think about it. The first time, I did agree to have them replace the cabin air filter for $40. I think I probably could have just bought one and put it in for less, but I knew it actually did need to be replaced and I figured why go through the hassle of finding one and putting it in myself to save $20 at best. They seemed actually surprised when I said yes. I think they are required to try to tell something to everyone and most people always say no. Anyway, when they did that some debris fell down below the filter and the blower motor started making a horrible sound after I left. I came back and they quickly apologized and extensively cleaned it out for free. Everyone makes a mistake from time to time. Good people quickly own up to them and fix it. read more

Stopped there today at a service center I've used before and found okay. There were two cars already in the bays. I stuck my head in the door and asked how long the wait was. At first everyone ignored me, then the lead guy started yelling: it's an instant oil change the cars drive out, you drive in, they drive out, you drive in! Honestly, I don't need this. Worst place ever. I went here July 3rd and as soon as I got on the highway on July 4th my skid plate came off and crumbled underneath my car. I spent 2 hours on the side of the road and had to have a tow truck to come and help get it out from under my car. I was told I would be reimbursed for the cost of the tow truck. 2 months later I have not received anything after calling several times. I called customer care and they said the manager never sent the paper work in and now he has apparently lost it. Do not go here. Worst service I have ever received. Had a great experience here. Showed up yesterday without an appointment for a standard oil change and was seen right away. The technicians were professional and so kind (the latter quality can sometimes be rare to find around Boston!) You stay in your car the entire time for a perfectly socially distant experience. Everyone who works here is super nice. Yes, they will try and upsell on things but it's never super pushy, always just suggestions. They also are great about explaining things when I have questions (and I know nothing about cars so I always have questions). I like how between oil changes you can stop in and they will top up fluids and put air in the tires. One thing that seems extra great about this place is that everyone who works there seems to get along really well. That seems like an indication of a decent corporate climate and also of good management. I typically hate dealing with car tasks because, as I'm sure many other women understand, these environments can be a little uncomfortable. I'm always on high alert for being upsold on something I don't need, and the condescension can run wild. But the Valvoline team on Washington Street was world class. I was in and out in 15 minutes, without an appointment, and never had to leave my car. The entire staff is extremely kind and gracious, and they went out of their way to explain the process. I am a man. This is my mantra as I pull into the line of cars waiting for oil changes and whatever other services that the drivers are too lazy, or, like me, too inept, to perform themselves. For example: Wiper Change - CHECK! Brake Fluid - CHECK! Coolant/Anti-Freeze - CHECK! Power Steering Fluid - CHECK! Air Filter - CHECK! Tire Rotation - CHECK! Belt Replacement - CHECK! All of the above happens in a whirl of activity - get this - JUST LIKE IN NASCAR! *devil horns in the air and screaming* It's pretty cool, and the entertainment value is definitely worth the visit. There's all this yelling between mechanics above and below your car. Totally cool. The only drawback is that every time someone yells something about this doohickey or that thingamajig, I have no idea what the hell they are talking about, and am too embarrassed to ask. This comes to a head when the guy controlling this whole dance asks me if I want this or that service - to which I reply with false bravado - "no, it's too soon for that." I hope he believes me. Anyway, he's too nice and thoroughly professional to laugh in my face, so he goes on to the next service that I still think is too soon to occur. Ultimately, he's honest and says that I don't need half the stuff Valvoline offers anyway. Phew. So, as eluded to above, I have a love/hate relationship with this place. It keeps my car operational and mobile with peace of mind for a very, very reasonable price. But I always leave feeling like such a wuss - completely emasculated. So, I usually go chop a cord of wood [not really], hit on a bunch of women [explain to my wife where I've been], drink a Miller Lite [probably a scotch], and watch some sports [probably read] to make me feel better. A few take-away points after my visit: 1) service is slow : took a total of 35 minutes for an oil change + AC check 2) service is careless: Despite their "check list", they did not check my power steering fluid and brake fluid. I suspected those fluids were low since I sensed minor problems during steering and braking. And indeed they were low but they missed that until I asked them specifically about them. Who knows what else they missed. 3) promotion is a rip off. They advertised free AC check. So I asked for one, and told the manager specifically not to do anything about the AC until they asked me. They completely ignored what I said and went ahead to refill my AC coolant and charged me over $100 for it. I will never ever go back again. read more

I tried this location out and was disappointed. I went in for an oil change, they pull out a new air filter claiming it was dirty, told me I needed a new one. Before I told them what I wanted they asked me to step on the brakes to do a "safety check" and claimed I had a break light out (I just had the car inspected earlier that week).
