I like the valvoline business model but skip this location. They're so disorganized and inconsistent. After pulling in, they don't service in order. They drain your oil and then forget about you. People who pull in half an hour later will leave before you. When I inquired what was going on, the attendant told me they're short staffed, but not sure how that translates to being forgotten while others come and go as you sit. Well, here goes! In general, all Valvoline oil change centers follow the same strict method of operation. This method ensures that the four most grievous things (I can think of) will NOT happen to you. These are: Stripped oil drain bolts; starting your car without oil; making you car interior dirty, lifting your car in the air incorrectly. They avoid this as follows: They use a torque wrench and will replace the drain bolt if it looks previously abused. They communicate with almost military rigidness between the topside and bottom side technicians. You drive your car onto the service spot and stay in the car, they never get in it unless you want them to reset your service light. The car is never lifted, it's driven (by you) over a spot where a technician can access the underside of the car from an area that is called a pit. This is cleaner and roomier than the pits in old service stations, a better working environment for the technician. Now for this location. My son's first job in automotive was here. In auto dealerships this is called Express Service, so it's not unusual for this to be an Entry Level position. The difference is that the process is so well controlled, it's virtually foolproof. My son worked here for over a year and when I had my car serviced here, I experienced for myself all the things he told me they do. When I've spoken with the technicians, they all seem very happy working there. They double check the filter installation by calling over a supervisor. I continue to bring my cars to Valvoline, most often this location. I'm sorry for being technical, but when you entrust your expensive car for a service you might do several times a year, these are important considerations. When my son went to work for a car-brand dealership, he took these disciplines with him, and credits Valvoline for this. One more thing, they are honest. Like most oil change places, they check your coolant, washer and other fluids, wipers, and air filter. I have found them not to recommend items unless it's needed. The last time, the technician showed me the air filter, said it's clean except for this leaf that was in there, removed the leaf and reinstalled it. When you bring your car here, watch for how they communicate and do the things I've mentioned. I think you'll be impressed too. read more

Okay, I now have a new favorite oil change place! I had to bring my work vehicle in for an oil change. I pass this place all the time, so I figured why not give ot a try. I was a little bit confused when I saw that you had to wait in your car to drive it into the garage... thats because this place is drive through! What! You mean I don't have to get out of my car? What! That's awesome!! First off, the mechanics are super professional. The guy introduced himself and told me the names of the guys working underneath my car. Then, he had me turn my car back on and had me put my turn signals on, my brake lights, and my revese lights to see if any were out. As the oil was being changed he actually showed me my air filter as he were taking it out and asked me if I wanted a new one. It was pretty dirty so, I had him put in a new one. After the oil was changed he showed me the dip stick to prove that it was changed and that the oil's full. Afterwards, they give you your paperwork and an air fresher and send you on your merry way. I was in and out in less than fifteen minutes!! I'm definitely coming here now. read more

Beware......... Kinnelon NJ store Dishonest! Should have known when there was a woman in there complaining that her daughter was taken advantage of by up selling her things that were not needed. My car has 23,000 miles on it and has had all scheduled oil changes. Technician did not show the dipstick and tried to up sell me stating that I needed to have a flush done as my oil was sludgy. I have been a mechanic for over 30 years and when I asked the technician a simple question he gave a snotty comment. I asked for the manager Brian. Who was very disrespectful and seemed to not value his customers. Be careful because they are not honest and will try and get every dime they can by lying! read more

I brought by car here 2.5 weeks for an oil change as I normally do.. two weeks later my check engine light comes on and loud noise under my hood begins and I have to have my car towed to the dealership. My car is a 2020 Jeep Cherokee, never had a single issue until this. When tightening the oil filter housing they overtighten it causing it to crack - unknowing to me which caused oil to leak out. I called Valvoline explaining what happened and opened a claim just for them to tell me that their "torque sticks" are set to a certain setting to they cannot over tighten.. yet that is exactly what they did and according to the service manager at the dealership I had my car towed to they have seen this on many occasions with Valvoline customers coming in for the same issue. I will not be returning and I would suggest going elsewhere where even if mistakes happen they will do the right thing and own it.. not make excuses. read more

I've been bringing all my vehicles here for oil changes for a few years now. Their service personnel are thorough and professional. I like the fact that I can be out in 20 minutes if there's no line of cars on the queue. I do agree with some who have said that the price for cabin filters are pricey, I'm guessing the price reflects the added labor cost (still a lot cheaper than taking your car to a dealer, if your vehicle is new). "Fast Lube" ...not here. I spent 30 minutes waiting in line being the second car at noonish on a weekday. They have three bays to work off, two cars per bay but only the center one was actually doing any work, and the back end had two employees changing overhead light bulbs with a 15 ft step ladder. These two fools never finished...The other two bays had people walking around for 30 mins doing nada. The center lane took the car ahead of me after 10 minutes and I became next. Finally after ten minutes someone wanted to sell me wipers I didn't need and then told me it would be a couple of minutes. 20 minutes later, I took the stupid number off my windshield and drove away. These guys are idiots, I'd rather hang out with sloths, they at least are pretty to look at. If you have an hour, maybe this is your place... read more

I have not and will not go anywhere else. I enjoy getting oil changes in such a positive atmosphere. I have had the same girl (wish I could remember her name) a few times and she remembers me and is so sweet. I've had a few other guys do my oil change and they always made me laugh. Today Connor helped me and was so unbelievably nice. He introduced himself AND the guys under my car! He explained things to me and suggested some things for my car that I could get myself as well that would help me and my car in the long run but never forced anything. Don't go here!! I wish I could give them zero stars. They see a female with a baby come in and they think they can sell her anything!!!! In my 20+ years of working on cars I have NEVER SEEN anyone hookup ac manifold gauges to check the ac pressures on a car while the car is in for an oil change!! And to top it off the owner wasn't notified of them doing the ac check until after it was already done. Courtesy checks include checking the lights, wipers, fluids, and filters. NOT the ac, especially when there was no complaint from the owner about it not working and when the car is 4 years old and only has 30k miles on it!!! They are crooks!! Opened a complaint with corporate office and they reviewed video of my job and insisted that all of the bolts were replaced on my skid plate. The fact that several of them fell out in the course of 2 weeks after the visit still suggests that if they were all replaced, they were not properly tightened. They are a little bit pushy with their additional products but i don't mind it. They are doing their job. If you don't like it, just say no and move on. The only problem is that they check your filters and they are exteremly over priced. They charge $42.99 for their in cabin filter. You can get it less than $10 and change it yourself. I like Valvoline because of it convenient locations but i think Jiffy lube is a lot better, cheaper without the extra selling push. I have been to jiffy lube in Fairfield, Nj and in Miami,FL. Both times i was satisfied and i had no issues. The only downside is that you have to leave your car and wait in the waiting area. Other than that i liked everthing with their service. read more

Went for an oil change. The actual work they did was good and it is nice that you don't need to get out Of your vehicle. However, they pester you into buying every filter/oil flush you can imagine. After a while it gets annoying but if you don't mind being nagged then this place is good. read more

I just went to the Kinnelon Valvoline Instant Oil Change earlier today, it was a great experience, you drive into the garage bay, and wait in your car while they work. I meticulously watched the guys work, I was pleased to see they used brand new packaged oil filter O-rings to put the new filter in place. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that after they bolted the oil filter back in place, they finished off tightening it with a torque wrench. I read in a google review that the oil filter price isn't included in the oil change price, so when I went there, I expected the quoted price to be a little higher than the 73 or so dollars they advertised. I was right, the price went up to about 100, but I did require more oil than the advertised amount. The service tech put in a few promo code discounts to drop the price down because he said he was surprised at the filter price. As far as the price goes, I did visit Progressive Car Care in Totowa yesterday, the guy there quoted me "one something" so the price at Valvoline seems reasonable. Just a quick update, I had a second oil change, it was just as easy as the first, but this time they were able to use the tube sucker thing to get the oil out from the top. Very pleased. read more

First of all these oil change people damaged my oil pan. They blamed the age of the car for the aluminum oil pan's threads being worn out. They also stated that some one else replaced the drain plug with another bolt of the wrong size obviously my fault. They stated that the last time I was there for an oil change that they advised me of that situation, they never did. So bottom line and 400.00 dollars later I had my mechanic repair the problem and they will not reimburse me for their mess. The manager Brian stated that he would have liked to repair the problem first before my mechanic but can you see an oil change facility spending 3 hours, like my mechanic, removing necessary parts to drill and retread a new hole to place a different bolt in. Also they love to claim that your car needs this repair and of course that repair. Do not go to that site they will damage your car or damage your wallet with pure inferior workmanship and lying about the care your car really needs. read more

Avoid. $75 bucks for an oil change and 1 wiper. Plus the oil filter broke down. My car starting running funny. The oil temp would spike and it just didn't sound right. I took it to my mechanic and he pulled the filter. Inside it literally fell apart. read more

My wife used to go here for her oil changes. They always tried to sell additional services that are either not recommended or needed. Interestingly, when she went there alone they would tell her she needs X,Y and Z services which she would decline. When I went with her, they usually would not try to sell additional services and if they did it was for completely different things than the previous visit. I dislike that they adjust your tire pressure. I thought it was car maintenance 101 not to check or adjust air in hot tires. After visiting here I would have to go home and adjust the pressures back to where they were when the tires were cold. My 2 main specific issues with this place are: -They tried to sell my wife a brake fluid flush which she declined. A week later I brought her car to a local repair shop for tires and just to see what happened I asked them to check the brake fluid. They told me the fluid was fine as was everything else on the car including the coolant which Valvoline said needed to be flushed. -My wife always asked for full synthetic and was charged accordingly. Her oil change interval never increased (which you would think it would) and about a month after her last oil change there I checked the oil and it was pretty low. Her car has no leaks and does not burn oil. So perhaps they are not using synthetic after charging you for it and/or short-filling you. If you are somewhat knowledgeable about your car's service intervals and they are trying to sell you things that don't make sense, decline everything and bring it to your local mechanic. Also check your oil as soon as you get home and the engine is cool to make sure they didn't short-fill you. For the most part, the employees there are very nice but I get the feeling that their training is lacking and they are under a lot of pressure to extract as much money as possible out of you before sending you on your way. I would not recommend this place unless you are in a bind for a simple oil change. read more

I have been going here for about 3 years and in all that time they have tried to sell me Synthetic oil and I have told them no. My wife took the car to them and they talked her into it. This car didn't need it to be installed and they should stop trying to push stuff onto people and just do what is asked. Oil was changed 3/13/2016, on 3/14/2016 I noticed fresh oil spots on my BRAND NEW DRIVEWAY. I was out if town and could not get back to the location until Sunday 3/20/2016.I went in a talked to the manager " Brian" who did apologize and then had me wait in line to come in to the center. Car was looked at and I was told there was residual oil around the oil filter and that it was cleaned up. I was also told the pan was leaking( ironic that the car was not leaking anything before I had Valvoline change the oil) I got home and the oil continues to drip. I will be visiting another service center this weekend and would be happy to share the findings read more

UPDATE: Valvoline's corporate office made good on this issue and offered to pay for 100% of damages, even though they are not affiliated with this local branch. Pretty impressive! If I could rate them lower; I would. Here is my experience at Valvoline Instant Oil Change: On 12/11 I went to the Instant Oil Change for an oil change and was told that I need a fuel system cleaner. The "Runrite fuel system clean kit" was put in to my car, and the next day my engine light went on, and sputtered on start up. I took the car to the mechanic the next week, on 12/21 and the mechanic reported that there was "a foreign liquid running through the vacuum tube and electrical connector". As a result, I needed to get a new pump, the vacuum line had to be cleaned and I needed a new electrical connector. The repairs the the car totaled $516.00. Since the only fluid that I had put in my car in the last six month or longer was the fuel system cleaner kit, the mechanic deduced that was likely the cause of this issue. He explained if the technician were to pump the fluid too quickly in to the hose, this part would flood and be damaged. I went back to the oil change station at the beginning of January. I went back and forth with the station manager, and he said he would investigate the issue. When we brought the car in he took pictures. It took him and his crew 40 mins to even locate the part of the car that they would need to inspect for damages. He took the damaged part and sent it back to their third party part vendor to check for residues. Now, at the end of January he said that this vendor hasn't found any fluid residue in the part, so he is only willing to refund me the $80 which was the cost of the fuel liquid that they put in to my car that caused the damage in the first place. To me this isn't good enough. I brought the car in for a simple oil change, and I came out with $500 of damages. This is not how a business should operate in my point of view. I am living paycheck to paycheck as it is, and this added expense is a hardship on me. I find it hard to believe there is such a complete and lack of customer service. Am I just supposed to forget about the damages to my car because they tell me the can't do anything further for me? I would think twice before driving your car through their door. You never know what type of bills you will end up with. Caution! read more
