I came here because Valvoline Instant Oil Change advertises fast, drive-thru service in about 15 minutes. I understand I'm paying more than I would at a traditional shop because the convenience and speed are supposed to be part of what I'm paying for. Instead, I waited in line for over an hour before my vehicle was even serviced, and the oil change itself took close to another 30 minutes. That's nowhere near the "instant" experience they advertise. What makes this even more confusing is that I've been to this location before. Today they had more employees working than I've ever seen, yet it was by far the longest wait I've ever experienced. That simply doesn't make sense. If you're going to advertise quick service, you need to deliver it - or at the very least be upfront about expected wait times. Had I known it would take this long, I would have gone somewhere else. If you want an oil change with a side of relentless upselling and a condescending lecture every time you say "no," this is the place for you. I've dealt with Valvoline constantly trying to sell me services before, but my last visit was fucking ridiculous. I came in for an oil change. That's it. I repeatedly told the employee that the other maintenance he was recommending had either already been done by me or handled by my mechanic. My mechanic happened to be out of town on vacation and I needed the oil change done, which is the entire reason I came here in the first place. Apparently, "no thanks" still wasn't an acceptable answer. Every time I declined something, this guy acted shocked and got more condescending, like I was some idiot who had never maintained a vehicle before. He even tried selling me windshield wipers. I told him I wasn't interested in replacing them right now, and somehow THAT turned into another argument. Then he insisted on giving me paperwork listing everything my vehicle supposedly needed, despite me repeatedly saying I didn't want it, followed by a lecture about how "quick fixes" are better than waiting until the whole vehicle breaks down. Dude. I HAVE A MECHANIC. I MAINTAIN MY VEHICLE. HE WAS ON VACATION. I CAME HERE FOR AN OIL CHANGE. I understand upselling is part of the business. Ask me once. Hell, ask me twice. But when a customer repeatedly says no and you continue pushing, getting an attitude, and talking down to them, you're not being helpful anymore. You're just being fucking annoying. The entire experience made me uncomfortable and irritated enough that this was the last time I'll be going to this Valvoline. From now on, if my regular mechanic isn't available, I'll just find another shop. What's the point of advertising a "quick" oil change when half the experience is sitting there getting harassed about services you've already declined? The convenience completely disappears when I have to spend the entire visit repeatedly saying no and defending why I don't want to buy more shit. Meanwhile I had to leave it there in order to make it to the rental car place before they closed, because I no longer had a working vehicle. It had to get towed to the dealership. I come here regularly to get my oil changed. I pay 130.00 each time. I've never had an issue with anyone trying to get over on me that is until my most recent visit. Last week I brought my car in the employee did the usual inspections ie; brake lights, blinker, and checked my battery status. He said my battery was completely dead. Me with my sense of humor said, " if it's completely dead then how am I still driving it fine?" He said I don't know but you need to get a new one asap. I told him my battery is only two years old. He replied with" that's about as long as they last" Batteries last 3-5 years! Just because I'm a female doesn't mean I'm an idiot! Second consecutive trip to these clowns! Went back to provide feedback and hopefully allow them to redeem themselves. First trip the under carriage was left sloppy on everything near the oil filter! Second trip elected cabin air filter change, only for the tech to make a huge mess of dirty filter contents all over the passenger side. The tech explained that they don't have a vacuum cleaner to clean up the mess made as the result of the service! i had literally just come from the car wash and vacuumed the vehicle. knowing this was unacceptable I called the manager over to inquire about what could be done and he said they requested a vaccuum from HQ, but it hadn't been approved. He also didn't offer to make it right financially after making a mess of the inside of my vehicle. Still charged me full price. Clowns!!!! read more

I went to this location on a recommendation. This location provides a " stay in your car" oil change service, which I was totally unfamiliar with. So then an employee started gesturing and hand signaling. I had no clue it was directed towards me. I eventually pulled my car into the bay, where someone else begin gesturing. He eventually left after having a mini meltdown because I wasn't responsive enough for him. Are you ok?? Another lady takes over and she gets frustrated and starts barking commands. Who are you yelling at?? Then a gentleman named Corjuan and Monae quickly took over the situation and verbally gave me directions and showed them how it's supposed to be done. Thank goodness!! So the yelling lady does the oil change and attempts to change the air filter. It appeared as if she had a difficult time installing it, but I didn't feel the need to yell and get frustrated at her. Another lady had to come and help her. I left and two days later, the change oil light came back on. Is it my turn to be mad and throw a tantrum? Stay away!!! Do not get your oil changed here, at least if you have a Mercedes Benz or any car that needs full synthetic I bet. They WILL put on a totally wrong filter and even use the wrong oil, so I don't know what the "European Full Synthetic" oil is, but don't get it! Back to the filter, I was told the filter currently installed is the wrong filter that will not scub the oil at all. Due to them putting in wrong oil and wrong filter the mechanic is unsure if an oil change and installing correct oil and filter will help the damage that may have already of occurred to valve train. If they don't have your part they should say so and if they don't know how to work on your car they should just be honest and not purposely try and destroy someone's car... Update: Unfortunately my car will need a new engine all because of having my oil changed here. read more

This is the second incident I've had with Valvoline. First incident was the one on Hillcrest last year.. I been coming to Valvoline for about 6 years, spending hundreds throughout those years. Back in March 2021,I had my oil changed (Oakley location) and everything was fine. Fast forward to my next oil change, October 2021 (Oakley Location), employees said my skid plate was missing!! Well geez! Nobody else works on my car, the ONLY people changing my oil is Valvoline. BOTH March and October 2021z I went to the same location, in Oakley. Please Corporate have someone check cameras, I don't want to meet in person with the manager just to get a run around. Check cameras. We always take our cars here. Instead of taking it to the dealership where we got our cars and it's close to our house. Yesterday for a full synthetic, our bill was $104 and some change, we had a $10 coupon but still pretty pricey. It almost seem like it's higher than getting it done at the dealership. We didn't have anything added just oil change. We never had any bad experience. It's really less than 20 minutes to change your oil when they start working on your car. Sometimes there's a bit of a line but there's 2 stations. They also check your tire pressure, car lights and all the fluids of your car if it's running low. Binh is mostly the one we happen to see when we bring the cars in. He's very nice, very professional & knowledgable. read more

This is a tale of two daughters. D-1 took her 2012 Ford Focus to Valvoline around Oct 14th and had the quick oil change. They overfilled her engine with synthetic, drained a little, and she basically left happy. I was with D-2 when we had our 2013 Honda Civic serviced on Oct 23rd. Again just the basic oil change. They offered synthetic oil, but we stayed with conventional. They checked the lights, tires and fluids, as well as checked the filters. The engine air filter needed replacement, which I did an hour later (for $15 and a easy replacement, I saved a few bucks). We left happy. Yesterday D-1 (Ford Focus) reported that her engine check light came on a few days after her oil change. She made arrangement with Brentwood Ford for service, but I intervened. Using my BlueDriver scan tool, an error code of P061B was reported. Google suggested it was the engine air filter causing a performance error in the engine torque monitoring system. Sure enough, only one of the four screws was attached and there was a 1/2 inch gap on the front and drivers side of the filter compartment. The lid was adjusted and all four screws secured. The error code was dismissed and after a day of driving, the issue appears to be resolved. There was 5-6 employees in the two bays at the time of my visit. They operated like a pit crew, but apparently one or more doesn't quite pay attention to the work being done. This air filter error could have cost $120 plus to have the dealership repair a Valvoline caused issue. read more

I pass by this place nearly every day when I'm commuting home from work. The line always seems pretty long with five or six cars at in front of the garage doors. I decided to try it early Saturday morning and got in line 10 minutes before they opened and I was the first person there. I was greeted right away and a technician went over some of the details of my car and suggestions for what needs to be done based on my mileage. I asked about any promotions or discounts and she quickly went over about six of them. I really appreciated that because she asked if I was a military veteran, if I planned on bundling oil change as well as transmission flush etc. I also ended up getting my rear differential and transfer case done on my Tacoma that same visit. I signed up for the email to get other promotions and then recently took my other car there. When they worked on my car they were very communicative with each other and the manager would go by making sure that they were taking every safety precaution. He walked back to my window showing me the condition of my current fluid and how it was good timing to replace. read more

Brought my car in for oil change. The tech underneath apparently lost a bolt to the oil pan shield or didn't know how to reattach. Two other workers attempted to help and after several minutes I asked is something wrong and the young lady stated they were reattaching the cover. After several more minutes, clanking, and vehicle shuttering from apparent brute force, they said it was done. Got on the highway, and flapping and shuddering started. Looked below and the bolts/clips were missing across entire front of skip plate. Wind got inside and almost ripped it off the car. Took it back and after claiming it was missing screws when I originally came it. They installed the clipped they failed to replace in the first place. read more

All the bad reviewers saying it took so long...should learn the concept of patience. The time it takes to get your car taken care of depends on the services they're providing. Some want the full package and others just want the oil change. Providing customized service for each customer doesn't warrant a bad review, they're just doing their job.
