Went to a location in Norfolk area and had my tires rotated before my long road trip to Arizona. Well during day one our jeep was wobbling when hitting 64mph so we stopped by another Valvoline ( this one ) and told them the problem and Dean was able to diagnose the potential problem so they got to work. Tig, showed us the problem by personally rolling over one of our tires and explaining the balance issue with the weights and was able to calibrate it perfectly. Approximately a week ago. I drove my car to this Valvoline location for a standard oil change. They were kind and direct to the point of certain potential problem areas. They did show that there was some wear and tear on my undercarriage plate. An explained what the plate does for the engine and how important it is to get another. Everyone was very professional and I had no problems. It was very smooth and easy. I believe I was there for less than 10 minutes. The value is good for the quickness and bringing problem areas that I need to fix in the near future to my attention. read more

Brought our car in for an oil change a few days later it started leaking oil, which ir had not done at all prior. Brought it back in to be looked at and after barely looking at it, hit pulling any record or information tech said it was a gasket leaking. Took it to a different place and apparently the oil cap was causing the leak, NEVER bringing my vehicle to a nother valvoline definitely ripped off read more

I understand that just like many other industries, automobiles may require a little bit more of an in-depth look that may be unexpected. However, I was very disappointed with this location, as it's employees took their sweet time to do everything. I don't mind having to wait, but never felt as the customer, that I was properly accommodated. Isn't this supposed to be an instant oil change? I could have gone to a mechanic instead. I bought a coupon through Groupon since Valvoline likes to think that charging 70$ is reasonable???!!... I normally don't trust places like this but my mechanic is down at the time so I had no choice but to put the care of my vehicle in their hands!!.. BIG MISTAKE!!! 4 days after having my oil changed all of my oil in my car began to come out and I mean it went everywhere my car was once clean and clear of any kind of engine fluids and now it's so much it's up inside of all of my wheels barrings it's everywhere!!! They didn't put my oil filter back on correctly!!! I stopped by to only be offered for them to take a look at it!!! What are you kidding me??!! No you will not be looking at it ever again!!! Plus did you think I didn't immediately have someone else fix it??!!!! No refund was offers no credit was offered!! These places go way to fast and charge for things like a serpentine belt at a cost that is 4 times more than any part store around!!!! BE AWARE!!! read more

Will not be returning. New to the area and got a free oil change, they told me I needed an air filter and I said I would take care of it. When I got home to replace my air filter the cover had 1 screw in it. I went back to the place and they found 1 screw on the ground but couldn't find the other 2. I was told I can go purchase the other ones and return with the receipt and they would pay me back. Hopefully they didn't forget anything else! Won't be going back here, people make mistakes, but me having to work to fix theirs is not my idea of good customer service. read more

I'm happy to give a five star review. I came in for an oil change that included front to back inspection, air refills, and more. I have to say the Assistant Manager (Cody) who served me and the other staff were very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. While there were a lot of things they wanted to do for me, they didn't push me to do anything which I appreciated. I have been a regular customer at this Valvoline since I permanently moved into the area. They have always been courteous and friendly and they've remembered me by name since I started going there. I trust the staff - they've answered all my questions and they are very transparent about any areas of serious concern. They do their best to sell other products and services even if I go in telling them I'm just there for an oil change, but I don't think that's uncommon to any other Valvoline. That's just the nature of the business and they don't push it to where I've been uncomfortable. I would highly recommend them to other locals in the area. read more

1 week ago i went to Valvoline which I do frequently (4 cars) to get an oil change. Cody was awesome she changed the oil and was topping off fluids and realized my coolant was really low and there was deposits on the cap. So i asked if there were any leaks and they looked below and above and said no. So she recommended a radiator flush and fill and also a cleaner and conditioner. So i said ok if you think it needs it so 170.00 later car is good to go. Well we drive about 30 miles and stop and i see coolant on the ground so i think maybe its over fill no biggie. Then i stop later and again coolant on the ground so i said well ill take it back so they can look at it. Well went back today and told them what happened and pointed out to them that there was a hose that was wet looking. They said oh its leaking and its to the over fill tank. I said to short Joel can you fix it and he said well we dont do that here. I said well I can do it if you want i just hate to have you put fluid in it just for it to leak out on my way home. So he and a few others had a huddle and decided ok they would fix it. So tall Joel took thr hose off (30 seconds) and i walked across the street to auto zone and got a new hose (3.00) and tall Joel went to his personal truck and got new clamps out and put the hose on (1 minute) and put fluid back in and then they charged me 29.99!!!!!!! Seriously!!!! 29.99 for 1 minute 30 seconds of labor and maybe 2 quarts of antifreeze. So now im not sure i ever want to go there again and not sure i want my friends and family to go there ever again. So i decided to share my story with everyone that looks at this. It seems to me that caring for long term customers is not valued anymore it's really all about the money. I can go anywhere and get treated like this. So i called customer service and she explained to me that this Valvoline is a franchisee and they can charge and pretty much do what they want. So i guess the next time you go to a Valvoline ask them if they are a franchisee and if so then you can make the decision to stay or go just know they can pretty much do what they want. Update: well after speaking with the regional manager and a few people in customer service they have made amends. They gave me a free high mileage oil change and my 30.00 back. So its good to know that someone cares about customer service and maybe this will trickle back down to that Valvoline and they will change the way they do things. read more

Did not know how to ever change a serpentine belt I mean dude, you have been there 5 years and cannot change a belt. I've taken my car here on two occasions. For oil changes. They do a good job. They tell you other things need to be done. Which isn't a bad thing. You may feel like they pushing other products or services on you. But I have no complaints. read more

Valvoline Instant Oil Change, West Main St, Salem VA. Management and staff changed recently early 2014, and boy are the new guys horrible. They spilled oil on my BMW engine from removing the oil filter and when adding fresh oil! Oil was dripping in my driveway when I got home. Big fat guy with a bunch of tattos was a complete arrogant idiot, very careless in what he did. He even started filling the fresh oil before the guy beneath the car in the bay told him to do so, so the drain plug was not yet back in - this idiot lost 6 quarts of full synthetic oil as a result. Then a different idiot tried to top off the brake fluid reservoir with AFT fluid - but BMWs use S11 Mineral oil - this is written on the reservoir itself. But this technician tried to assure me "Oh, this will be ok to add this." I yelled at him "Stop. Do not add AFT !" Later I called BMW and confirmed that the ATF fluid would have really screwed up the Adaptive ABS system on this car. The old management and crew were very good and very professional - I took 4 cars there for 5+ years with no problems. But these new guys are slow witted imbeciles with no training or professionalism. If you like your car, AVOID this place. read more

I went to Valvoline on Main St in Salem last night 10/8/14 for an oil change. The employees were very unprofessional and loud. (Goofing off) I sat there for over 1 hour to get my oil changed. I decided to pay extra to get the synthetic high mileage oil and the guy who talked me into it said that it would last for at least 5,500 miles. The oil change ended up being $53.14. He then mentioned that the antifreeze was a little low and he could top it off for another $4. I decided to decline. I will add my own antifreeze. Most garages will top off your fluids for free...that is included in the price of an oil change. I felt like I had paid way too much already. My local privately owned garge in Salem only charges me $29 for an oil change and takes 15 - 20 minutes. I will never go back to Valvoline again. I noticed once I got home that the sticker on the window says it needs changed again in 3,000 miles not 5,500 as represent by the guy who sold me the upcharge. Very disappointing! I feel like I have been scammed. I expected better. read more

I took my jeep to have the oil changed on wed nov 16th. My oil pressure gage inside the vehicle was working when I went in. When I left it was showing 0 on the gage. When I got home I told my husband he looked under the hood and the sensor was broken. I went back and the manager, Joel tried to tell me it was already broken which is a lie because I would not have been able to see the pressure on the gage if it was already broken. Then he suggested we use some adhesive to put it back together to which I replied I want it back the way it was when I arrived here. I then went to Auto Zone and had to buy a $25 part so my husband can repair the damage they caused. Needless to say I will never go back to this establishment again as they do not own up to what they did wrong. If I broke something on someone elses vehicle I would fix it. I guess most people in this world are not honest. read more

The manager i believe his name is corey always seems in a very bad mood. Every time he is there i have a horrible experience due to the disrespect he has towards his employees and i dont even know why he verbally harrasses his employees the way he does calling them insulting names and telling them they are stupid and ive witnessed some of the younger/newer guys trying to observe him do services in order to learn and he'll tell them to go away. The staff there outside of him are the only reason i continue to go back. But due to how corey treats his employees i believe im going to start trying to find a new garage to take my vehicles to because i cant stand seeing that level of disrespect and open harrassment even in front of customers. read more
