We had a horrible first visit experience at our local VIOC about 2 years ago. But we recently decided to give them another try. It was like night and day. The young lady running the show was clearly in charge of the crew. Everyone was courteous. It took longer than we expected, but we were constantly kept up to date with the progress, and the reason for the delay. We have a new vehicle with a guard plate under the oil pan that they were not yet familiar with. I cannot remember her name, but we're I to start a new business (I am retired) I would definitely pursue her to run it. **READ ME** The story of how a simple oil change became a $3k+ out of pocket expense. Zero stars if I could. This place is atrocious. Here's the story: My wife put her Toyota Corolla into the shop for a simple oil change. After the mechanics were finished, she started her drive back home. After a minute on route 7, the check engine light flashes at her and the car comes to a stop. Police arrive and assist, and I arrive after she calls me. I check the oil and it's bone dry. Police officer indicates he sees oil trail all the way back on the road. Tow truck is called and arrives, at which point he checks the under the vehicle after he hooks the car up...and sees there is no filter. We tow it back to Valvoline and they indicate the wrong filter was installed, and must have loosened after being driven. Amazing. They agree to foot the bill for a rental and cost of the repair, which is of course the bare minimum. After a couple of days to wait for a specialized mechanic to conduct the inspection, surprise, surprise, the engine is seized and needs to be replaced. Engine needs to be found in supplier inventory, and based off of that, a completion date can be estimated. Valvoline indicated two completely separate ETAs, after communicating with my wife and I separately. They also indicated completely different engine mileage to us separately, one time being 20k miles and the other being 25k. Weeks go by and they say the engine has arrived and is being worked on. THEN they say the replacement engine has a crack and needs to be returned, pushing the date of install back further. After finally finding an engine to install, the work is complete and we go in for pickup. Valvoline indicates there is still a check engine light, which should "disappear" after vehicle use. Wisely, we decided against returning the rental that day. The day after we received the vehicle, I kid you not, the vehicle did not start. For this ordeal, Valvoline did offer a warranty, but what good is a warranty if the service personnel carrying it out can't do their job? We gave the car to them for a simple oil change, fail. We give them the opportunity to correct their mistake, providing ample time for due diligence and making sure the car is in working order...fail. I decided against taking it back to them because of this, and took the car to Tyson's Toyota. I had to pay out of pocket for the inspection and maintenance of course, but the car is repaired! The check engine codes were P0016 and P0017, Camshaft/Crankshaft related. These codes don't just disappear eventually, though they do once the problem is fixed...weird huh? We are currently seeking legal advice on how to proceed, as Valvoline is refusing payment past the date of when they delivered the broken vehicle back to us. I sincerely hope you stay away from this place. It simply isn't worth the risk. read more

AJ was such a nice and welcoming face. Fernando was assisting and did a great job. There was a car in front of me so AJ came to my car to greet me and let me know it would be a little while longer. I went in for an oil change and had that completed in no time. I did also need to get a new air filter and had my tires rotated, which he took the time to explain why and go over cost. AJ also took the time to show me the new filter before he put it in so I could see that it was new. I never felt pressured to purchase anything more, I added more services because of the trustworthy and efficient people I saw working. read more

Two issues. 1. Too expensive. 2. After paying all that, you'd expect it to be instant, right? Isn't that what we're paying for then? Nope! Not here. Reasons it took so long: A. Long line. They are not equipped to handle the demand. B. They spend too much time analyzing the vehicle status on other things for the purpose of upselling you on additional services. All I was there for was an oil change. I could have changed it myself twice in the time that I waited there. SAVE YOUR CAR, YOUR MONEY, AND YOUR TIME!!! Went there for a simple oil change and not only did they over fill the oil causing damage to spark plugs, but they also knocked two hoses off checking the air filter causing an imbalance in the fuel mixture which resulted in nearly $500 in repairs. I immediately returned when the engine light when on and the engine was malfunctioning and the employees refused to look under the hood or check their work. The area manager admitted video tapes show their staffs' incompetence but they are still refusing to pay the repair bills. This is one horrible company and there regional manager - Grallian Harbaugh is also a horrible person. They have totaled my engine on my car, the manager at the location agreed to put me in a rental which they did until they fixed my car. they forgot to close my oil seal and my engine knocked totaling the engine. I had to come out of pocket to get the damages fixed and a new engine which set me so far behind on my bills and I'm still working things out. here's the kicker this was last year 6/23 to 9/23 that I dealt with this. The rental car provided was from enterprise and it is 6/6/24 and I'm receiving a invoice directly from Enterprise saying Valvoline refuse to pay and the bill falls on myself. This is one horrid company and I'm tired of hearing about them screwing people over because they have bigger pockets. I had a great experience at this location! I have been getting my oil changed at the valvoline instant oil change chain for a few years now. I like their technique. It's very unique. You get to sit in your car while they come from the ground underneath your car and change your oil. I'm always done within 20-30 minutes even if there is a short line ahead of me. My only disappointment was afterwards I noticed a sticky feeling on my keys and when adjusting my seat I noticed oil residue on the handle. I went for an oil change and rotation. I waited an hour, and then proceeded into the work bay. I requested tire rotation and they told me that was the only Bay that did not do tire rotations and that they were not allowed to identify with a sign that that was the case. My oil change took 15 minutes so I'm thinking somebody took a lunch or there was something going on as to why it was an hour with the previous customer. I definitely were not getting a tire rotation. I was getting my car washed and suddenly my car failed to start. Ron, the technician, saw me in distress and gave me a jump start. My battery failed to recharge and it was obvious that my battery was dead. Even though the store was closing and they were cashing out. Ron and the staff ensured that they replaced my battery in 12 minutes. Ron also rode my car around the parking lot to ensure that it worked well. I appreciate the kindness of Ron and his teammates. Another employee gave him one. It obviously didn't fit. They quoted me a price on the phone to do the oil change for my car, so I left work early to get it done. When I arrived they jumped the price up 38.00 from what was quoted me. When I told them I talked to someone on the phone and they gave me a quote they said it was customer service center and the quotes they give are not honored at the location. Terrible service. Save time and go anywhere else. Despite bragging on the website and on the phone message that they don't require a reservation, I showed up within an hour of opening and lined up, only to be directed to a different service bay where I was left waiting 20 minutes minimum while those who came after were helped instead. At first I proceeded to drive into the shade of the service bay on a hot day. Then I was told I had to wait outside of the bay so that the service bay doors don't drop on my car?? I was half in half out...Am I supposed to trust these people with my car if they have sliding doors they can't even control? The guy even took notice of my dog inside and then still made me wait out in the sun on a hot day telling me it would be just five minutes so of course I spent the next 15 with my engine idling burning through expensive gas for my SUV only to see another car pull into the bay next to me and get their service started while 10 minutes later I'm still waiting. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that I called 3 times upon leaving to let them know what happened and just how terrible their service was only to have them not answer a single phone call for 15 minutes straight. Stopped by Saturday to get a synthetic oil change. First of all, there was only 1 car ahead of me, and the Manager Dean came out immediately and greeted me. I was in within 5 minutes. The pricing is in line with every one else. I had a $15 off coupon, even better. They looked at all fluids and filters. I was impressed with their computer system which quickly let them look up Mfr specs. I even asked them about when I need a Transmission fluid change, Dean looked it up and said it is not due yet.. They did not try to up-sell expensive add on items. This Valvoline has earned my Trust. read more

8/29/13 Just wanted to provide an update. If I could go lower than 1 star, I would. I just took my car into Goodyear for my next oil change (note that my family and I won't go to Valvoline again). Goodyear calls me to let me know my oil change is done. and he says..."by the way, did you know that you have no air filter in the car?" So after all that hassle at Valvoline and paying for an Air Filter, they never even put it in the car!!!! Now I have to pay to get an induction service done on my car to clean it out since I've been running for a few months with NO AIR FILTER!. Definitely reaffirms my stance not to use Valvoline again! Terrible Customer Service. I went to this Valvoline last Friday to get my oil changed. I had a coupon for what I thought was $15 off an oil change. When I gave it to the Service Rep, he said that I get a free air filter with that too. I needed it changed, so that was a bonus. I get the bill and it's $48. Here I was expecting $25 or so. When I questioned the Sales Rep, he said it was just $15 off an oil change AND Air Filter service. There are coupons every week for a $19 oil change. While I admittedly read this coupon incorrectly, when I told him that my family and I are loyal customers and we always pay about $19...he just said, "Sorry...you don't have the right coupon." I just think it's outrageous to have a list price of $40.00 for an oil change, when you are always having coupons for $19. And it's misleading to tell me I'd get my air filter free as well. I could have paid $10 for that and replaced it myself. It's not rocket science. We've got 5 cars in our household that we regularly bring to Valvoline. My boyfriend usually takes care of my car and he's an ex mechanic. I needed an oil change today and we've been too busy to change it so we decided to go to valvoline from a groupon deal. And we will never come back and I will never recommend this place to anyone. Here's why. 1) The mechanic told us we needed to recharge my battery because he ran a test. When he gave us the ticket, it was a measuring receipt of the battery from another car that was ran an hour before we got there!! Luckily my boyfriend denied it because he just changed it. 2) The mechanic told us we needed to refill the radiator fluid. When they opened the hood to show the low fluid, my boyfriend immediately noticed how unprofessional they are because no mechanic should open the radiator fluid pressure cap to check if the fluid is low. Meaning they opened it and released the fluid that was already in there!!! And tried to trick us in saying that we're low on fluid. 3) We only came for an oil change yet the mechanic opened our air filter and said I needed a new replacement when they didn't need to rip open my car because that's not why I came there for. In conclusion, these mechanics whom I will not name tried to rip me off and mess up something that wasn't even there. Reading the last few reviews got me worried and wondering if they did something else to my car. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!! read more

Valvoline stated synthetic oil was only option for my 2015 Silverado, it came with synthetic blend. I tried to impressed on them that I wanted all zerks greased they assured me they would, I presented them with what I thought was a valid coupon with a good experation date, it was declined. I was also told I needed a rear differential fluid change, my truck has 17,400 miles on it not needed. This was the most expensive oil change I have ever had, I'm 72 years old. The zerk grease fittings were not greased I had to take it back, they never did get them all, I'm sure they did not know where to look, by the way this was the second time with same results, previous was a GMC Sierra. read more

NEVER going back to this place again. I've gone a couple times, and kept coming back since they get you in and out pretty quick, despite their shady practice of trying to tack on useless services. The last time I was there, however, they started suggesting a bunch of things that I obviously didn't need, and were clearly intended to scare people who know nothing about cars. To top that all off, after filling up my coolant, they left the radiator cap off, which led to my car repeatedly overheating a few weeks later. In short, never bring your car here, they're dishonest, and only care about getting you in and out as fast as possible. Avoid this place and their dishonest "technicians" I visited this location after I noticed oil slow leaking from my car after a recent oil change at another valvoline location in Fairfax. I asked if they can check to see if it was a bad plug or washer. Took them about 5 min and they said problem solved, it was a plug that needed replacement. Fast forward a few hours later, I still notice leaking. I took it to another shop and they told me someone put rubber sealant around the plug. Yep, lied about replacing a plug but instead adding sealant. read more

I have been taking my cars to VIOC for over 10 years. I recently moved to the area and immediately sought out the closest station. Unfortunately for me, the closest one is about 25 miles away. I have not been the least bit disappointed and gladly make the trip. When I go to VIOC, I know that my car is getting the best possible service. The staff are always courteous, friendly and professional. I am usually in and out in about 20 minutes and have rarely have to wait. One fine Saturday, I drove down to get my oil changed, and found out it was customer appreciation day. They had catered hand-made burritos and also provided drinks. Not only that, but they gave out some "swag" and coupons good for my next visit. I signed up to receive e-mail from them, and even though their e-mails are a little too frequent, they always have great coupons. Fast, professional, courteous and friendly. It truly is as good as it gets! I wholeheartedly recommend that you take your car to VIOC and let them earn your business the way they earned mine. You will not be disappointed. read more

See my photo. They changed my oil and did not put the engine cover back in place. They merely put the carpet down on the engine and left the cover on the tailgate. When I opened the tailgate, it fell out. When I called and talked to the manager on duty today, his excuse was that the guys had not worked on many Smart Cars Really? You take an engine cover off and can't put it back on? You don't notice it is not on when you put the carpeted piece on top of it and move the engine cover out of the way in order to do that? The level of incompetence is one thing. The potential to start a fire and cause injury to a person with total disregard is another. I will never go back there even though I like the owners. I went to get an oil change there today. I was waiting in my car, in front of one of the two open change areas that were both servicing cars. There was one other car waiting in front of another garage entrance. By chance my area got done with the oil change quicker than they guy at the other entrance. One of the workers asked me to back up my car and change positions with the other car because the other car was there first. He was the same moron that placed me in front of my entrance in the first place. I assume the other entrance would have been available shortly, but this idiot felt the need to switch us around. Arrived here out of the blue because the cover underneath my car became loose and was rattling like crazy. The technician immediately left his work on his computer to take a look and spent an unexpected hour refastening how the cover was sealed. I was surprised that he didn't explain details to me before or during his work. However, after he was done he explained everything, waived the costs, and let me on my way.
