We took one of our cars here for diagnostics because we live nearby. They charged $170 for diagnostics only. They also recommended $5000!!! in maintenance work. I've been driving for 47 years and have never paid $5000 for maintenance. Shocked at what they recommended, we took the car to the shop we've been using for years (which is located farther away). They did diagnostics + changed the oil and filter for $145. I asked if they thought the car needed any additional service, and they said if it had they would have recommended it. The last time we took our cars to North Point Sunoco for state inspection, we left with $1000+ bill for repairs. In the future, we will have our regular shop do state inspections and all maintenance/repairs and won't be using North Point Sunoco for anything other than refueling. read more

They are totally terrible. I took my car in for a safety inspection and they failed me. They said they couldn't adjust the defrost, even though I have been adjusting it with pliers for years. I thought whatever, I can finally get them repaired there as nothing else wrong with the car. Then the guy who says he is the manager does a 1 minute Google search and says oh I can't find any knobs you need to call the dealer blah blah. I was very upset leaving. He forces me to pay $20 despite dissatisfaction. Then I call him back, and when I mentioned the pliers, he says the pliers weren't readily available. He talked to me like a know it all jerk on the phone. Terrible customer service. The Sunoco in Centreville and a different place in Chantilly has passed me for years. This is the worst Service Center, I have ever been to in my life. Do not go for any inspections. I would never trust them again. Definitely not friendly and poor customer service. Why didn't he ask for the pliers when I was there? Because he was hoping I would buy some knobs from a dealer or ebay and pay his service center to install them. That shows you just how untrustworthy they are. When asking about pliers could have solved this, he tried to pull one over me instead. read more

Had a difficult day with this station to get my SUV inspected. First I went at 10:15 and was told the inspector was at lunch (at 10:15?). Went back a l title over an hour later and was told he would not return until 1:00. Fairly frustrated, but as this station is so close to where I live I went back a third time and got in. I haven't used their service for car repair yet but today my car battery died in front of the Giant shopping center. This has never happened to me so I was already panicked. I called Sunoco to see if they could give me a jump start. The guy that answered the call very politely told me he might not be able to because they only have one guy there today but then asked me to hold on to see if he can work something out for me. He did! Another polite gentleman came over within minutes (with a smile!)to jump start my car and sent me on my way in seconds and they didn't charge me! From start to finish both men were polite and as a nervous woman with a broken down car, this was such a relief! They gained a new future customer (a family w/ 5 cars). Just visited for an oil change. They were very nice, but it seemed I was left waiting too long. It turned out they had to send out to get the special kind of filter my vehicle required. Tip: It's always better to tell your customer why the appt. is extended, never let the customer wonder...They were apologetic, but I wish they had been upfront...Perhaps they thought I'd be upset, or were embarrassed? Anyway, they are wonderful about adding air to my tires, are reasonably priced for service, and remain my go to location for state inspections. read more

I took my car in for a state inspection and part of why they rejected my car was completely baseless, they said my windshield wipers were the wrong size, except they weren't as verified by an auto store. And they said the crack in my windshield was 1.5 inches thus exceeding the regulation (and my windshield would need to be replaced), the crack is 1 inch or less and has passed inspection for five years. I was able to pass on inspection at another shop. This is not an honest business, completely incompetent. read more

This repair shop is terrible. They charged 20% more than THE DEALERSHIP for new brakes. No surprise, there have been balance issues for months after they did the work. I was just quoted $95 for a synthetic oil change, but the bill was $116. They also said they would replace the rear wiper for me, but actually moved it off the drivers seat and couldn't be bothered. They lie about their high prices and charge even more when it's time to pay. RUN away from this place. read more

brought a car in to have tires rotated (among other things). Low pressure indicator was ON for one of the tires. After pickup, the SAME tire indicated low pressure. Obviously, the tires were NOT rotated, despite the charge of ~$30. Obviously, one cannot trust this establishment to do repairs or tests behind closed doors. If you must use this vendor, recommend you make marks on parts to check if repairs that were charged were performed. read more

I have been using this repair shop for over 25 years and had been very pleased. However in the last 6 months I have been disappointed and ripped off. I have two older vehicles which I seldom drive and are garaged. Both passes their state and emissions inspection in 2021. However this year both were failed. I am certain that no new problems were created by the vehicles standing idle and strongly believe that they are failing vehicles just to drum up additional business. I have been a 10 year customer at the North Point Village Center Sunoco station under several Managers. First, Andrew Green, Marvin and several others. Always satisfied with their work and politeness. However, now that Frank is manager things have changed for the worse! Yesterday I took my car for an oil change and met Edward who was very nice. I told him that last time someone left the oil cap off and I lost oil. I asked that everything be double checked and he said he would. Frank then came in and became hostile and rude and ordered me off his property and "never should you come back"! He would not allow me to take my car and ordered someone to put it by the gas pumps which I had to walk to. I was so embarrassed. Not only am I a senior woman, but I live in Reston. Frank was yelling at everyone in another language. I am American born and only speak English and a little French. I have notified Fairfax County Consumer Services asking for my receipt and a written apology from Frank. He should be dismissed and I have notified corporate Sunoco. I was frightened by his erratic behavior. No man should treat any woman in that violent manner. read more

I took my car here for a routine oil change and inspection. They were very busy, so I had to drop it off and leave it over night with an estimated completion for the next afternoon. This was no problem. However, two days went by without hearing anything from the shop. I called to check in and was told the car had been ready for over a day and their records showed that I was contacted. I was not. When I arrived to pick up my car, I noticed additional work had been done without my consent. I asked about this because, again, I was never contacted by the shop with any updates. The phone number they had on file was correct. So either someone mis-dialed and talked to a random person who gave their approval on my car OR the phone call was never made and the shop workers proceeded with the work without my consent to squeeze some extra money out of me. Either way, I will NOT be returning to this shop and do not recommend going there unless you plan to stay with the car or in the area while work is being done. read more

I had an appointment with North Point Sunoco on Wednesday, August 5, at 8am. When I.arrived, I was greeted by assistant manager, Edwin, and informed that I was scheduled for an oil change as well.as a state inspection for my car. I asked being that no one was on the inspection line, could I get my car inspected first and then have the oil change. Edwin replied I could and he would see that an oil change was done as soon as a technician arrived. We used North Point Sunoco for 24 years. I was the BEST. But now they have new management that's all about ripping off customers. This is my second bad review for them. I wrote them up for trying to rob me over my car by "recommending" $1,750 in repairs. The next station did it for $175 by just fixing what was wrong. My wife wasn't convinced and took her car in. The "recommended" $670 in repairs, including new spark plugs and spark plug wires. (Same for me, and that's an old scam.) But she got new plugs two months ago from the Lexus dealer. She say "no" to these rip-off artist and then Lexus dealer had her in and out in an hour. THE REAL PROBLEM: These boys charge you $150 to "diagnose" all of these "recommendations" that you don't need. When you take it elsewhere, they still get your $150. JUST DON'T GO THERE ANYMORE. I went here for an inspection. The vehicle was rejected for one reason that I agreed with and two which seemed unreasonable. The shop after rejecting the vehicle provided me with a ridiculous estimate for repairs. I sourced the parts myself from Autozone and found North Point Sunoco was charging eight times the Autozone price. Having Virginia inspection stations at facilities that do repairs is a conflict of interest. This is a perfect setup for a scam. Do not use North Point Sunoco for your repairs or service needs. Last December I brought my Pontiac Grand Am to North Point Sunoco in Reston for a safety inspection and emissions test. The vehicle passed the emissions test but failed the safety test, according to the inspector who examined the car. The reasons it failed were blown rack seals on the steering rack, which according to the inspector was a lack of power steering fluid, the inability to remove the right front lug nut and stud and a right front outer tie rod that has "worn play." I was told by the sales manager that my car was a "safety hazard" and if I did not do the repairs immediately that I was likely to be spotted by a police officer and given a ticket that costs more than $1000. I believe that this is deception, if not potentially outright fraud. Feeling nervous and threatened, I consented to the repairs, which cost almost $1500. The sales manager did not tell me that I had 15 days plus the day of inspection to make necessary repairs to my vehicle. He said that "some people have wanted to wait a day or two before making repairs but then they got caught by the cops and had to pay the fine." Later that day, after the repairs were done, I learned from the Virginia State Police website that I had 15 days plus the day of inspection to make necessary repairs to my vehicle. After consulting with the state police by telephone, I was told the reasons my vehicle failed did not constitute an emergency. I would not have been ticketed for not having enough power steering fluid. If I had known that I had 15 days to drive my car with a rejection sticker and not get ticketed for it, there is no way I would have consented to the very first offer of service I received, at a high price to begin with. I have no idea if North Point Sunoco actually worked on my car for 6 hours as they claimed, but regardless, I would have shopped around. It is not good business practice to try and make sales under duress. I believe that North Point Sunoco practiced deception and it is my recommendation that you find another place for service. read more

I have been to North Point Sunoco many times for oil changes and inspections on our four cars. Can't blame them for trying, but more times than not, they tell me repairs are needed on our cars and then proceed to quote high prices for doing the work. I save a significant amount of money by going to my favorite repair shop, Dranesville Auto. There have been a few cases where the second opinion resulted in the repairs not being needed. My car recently failed inspection at North Point Sunoco because of hazy headlight lenses. North Point Sunoco charges $188 to clean the lenses. Dranesville Auto charges $60. I purchased Meguiar's Heavy Duty Headlight Restoration Kit at Advanced Auto for $30, and cleaned the lenses on three cars in about an hour. They look like new. If you want to get your repairs done immediately and aren't bothered by high prices, then N. Point Sunoco might be the answer. But if you want a better price or want to verify that the work actually needs to be done, I would suggest a second opinion. read more

Mechanics, like hair stylists and dentists, are people that I like to have a solid, long-term relationship with. North Point Sunoco has had my business since I moved to the Reston area about eight years ago. I buy almost all of my gas there and they are my station for service. All in all, service has been very good. Oil changes are convenient. I live close enough to the station that I can drop off the car in the morning and pick it up in the evening after work. I usually get a call around mid-morning to tell me that the service has been complete. The station also sends a reminder for oil changes that includes a coupon for the service. They also note service that I should consider--not required, but things I need to keep an eye on. I did have one accounting issue come up. Because I picked up the car after the service department had closed, I wasn't able to get it taken care of on the spot. I had expected some hassle and push back, but when I called the next morning, Ken (the manager) took a look at my record and immediately took care of things. Because of that responsiveness and the excellent service to my cars over the years, I can't imagine looking for another mechanic. I believe that you can now schedule your service appointments online. I haven't done that yet, but it sounds like it could be a good feature. Thanks guys! read more

I have just had two great experiences with North Point Sunoco in the last month. About three weeks ago, one of the light bulbs in one of my headlamps went out, just as it was getting dark, and by the time I got to Sunoco all of the service people had left. I was so grateful that someone was still able to look at it and put in a temporary bulb, as they did not have the correct bulb. He was also very helpful in telling me how to get the correct bulb and showed me how to replace it. Today, I brought my car back in because I had seen a check engine oil light earlier in the week and wanted to top it off. Today's mechanic was also very helpful and told me it is better not to just top off, and since I will be having a service in 800 miles, it is better to wait. I have very much appreciated the honesty and top notch customer service and will certainly be back. read more

This gas station is very convenient as it's across the street from my apartment. I've had mixed reviews about the mechanics here. I've brought my car here for inspection and oil changes and they've been very helpful there. However, I called them to make an appointment for an oil change and it didn't even sound like the guy checked the appointment book. He sounded like he just wanted to get me off the phone. The staff in the convenience area of the gas station is usually very friendly. There is this one guy who tries to have very odd conversations with me about whatever I buy in there. However, I think he's usually there pretty late at night. I haven't seen him recently. Anyway, other than that one creepy guy, and the rude mechanice, I'd say this was a pretty good place. read more
