Van Leeuwen ice cream is so delicious. I would give it 5 stars, but it is pricey... I stopped by this week after a yoga class to cool down. The staff was friendly and I sampled the honeycomb, their bestseller, and the strawberry yuzu cheesecake, one of their seasonal flavors. I decided on the honeycomb, which was delicious. For a small cup, it's $8.11 including tax... but it was really really good. There is a very small eating space inside, where I was fortunately able to sit. By the time I was leaving, it was full. It's pricey for an everyday ice cream, but great for a summer treat. read more

Love the chocolate mint and the fact they have a soy option. I always end up here after every dinner I have in the upper west side. I wish the location had more seating but it's really made for a pick up and go business model. Please clean up after yourself if you do find a seat. read more

Delicious ice cream! I was actually so impressed by the quality and taste of the ice cream here. I've seen this brand in grocery stores before but never gave it a shot, but decided that I wanted to try the in person store during my time in New York. They offer free samples so you be sure of what flavor you pick, which is necessary since a single scoop only allows you to get one flavor unlike many other spots which let you split it into two. I decided to get the brown sugar cookie dough chip, which was seriously so good. It tasted exactly like cookie dough and with the bits inside, it was absolutely delicious. It was also topping tuesday which I had no idea, so I got the cookie crumble topping for free too! The scoop was a generous size but still quite pricey, so it may be more worth it to buy the pints in stores instead :) read more

Van Leeuwen is a French ice cream shop that started in Brooklyn. It has minimal ingredients, balanced sweetness, perfect flavors - it's honestly one of the best ice cream. The earl grey and sicilian pistachio are my favorite flavors, but the prepackaged containers from grocery stores taste better than what was provided here. I've had the PB brownie honeycomb, marionberry cheesecake, and praline butter cake. The flavors are perfect but the freshness was subpar and the cakes were stale. read more

I always see these ice cream containers at my local supermarket, but I never thought to try any. I came here the other day for the first time and had to get the honeycomb flavor because I'm a huge honeycomb girl. It was absolutely amazing and maybe one of the best ice creams I've ever had. If you like honey, then you'd enjoy this flavor! They also have a bunch of other flavors that looked really good on the menu, even vegan flavors for those who have dietary restrictions. Talk about extremely creamy and decadent ice cream! This place is the real deal if you want some of the best ice cream in New York City. The place is always packed with a big line. The only issue is that the design of the store doesn't allow for the line to be intuitive, so people are really just standing in each other's way the entire time. There ice cream is on the more expensive side, however it is a premium ice cream. Their chocolate brownie ice cream what is the best chocolate brownie ice cream ever had. Ice cream itself was so creamy, and the pieces of brownie were actually pretty chunky and delicious! Pistachio ice cream is also unlike any other pistachio ice cream I've had before. This is a brown color that has a very mild pistachio flavor. Other places that I've been to have a very artificial color and flavor of pistachio. This was the real deal. Staff were very friendly and allowed us to try a few flavors. Definitely a great experience from start to finish. read more

Honestly, I'm not a big ice cream person. I'll go for most other types of desserts, including gelato, before going for ice cream. However, if you want a fabulous scoop of ice cream, Van Leeuwen is the best there is! Excellent flavors and textures! I particularly love the affogato, dark chocolate fudge brownie, and cherry chocolate chip flavors. I've also enjoyed their specials: chocolate crispy cereal milk, sumac sorbet, and ice cream sandwich flavors. read more

Tried Van Leeuwen the other day and had a lovely time trying fun flavors and ended up getting a kids scoop of brown sugar cookie dough brownie. The kids scoop is a perfect amount of ice cream for me! They also have so many other cone and sundae options. Service was pretty quick- standard of an ice cream shop and all the scoopers were friendly and patient! It's not a huge ice cream shop so there isn't much seating but it's also pretty close to Central Park and a few other public sitting spaces. read more

My colleague and I were craving some ice cream after our corporate outing so we stopped by this shop and they probably made the prettiest, photogenic ice cream cones for us! It was during a heat wave and my colleague was (and still is) pregnant so we thought it was best to sit inside and eat our ice cream indoors. Ok, this ice cream need verbal cues like, ka-boom or ka-pow or click-boom (think old batman serial).. great, silky freakin yummy ice cream - I had a mix of honey comb and earl grey ice creams (I know, right!!!!) Reminiscing about last summer I needed to do this review! I'm looking forward to getting back to this neighborhood in the spring. Van Leeuwen on Columbus near 72nd Street is in my old neighborhood. I still have friends that live close by. Van Leeuwen is definitely the ice cream shop I can't pass by without going in for a scoop! I have to admit in the beginning I didn't get the hype and I felt it was overpriced. I decided to give it a try once more. Now I'm hooked. My Favorite is Peanut Butter Chip. Anything with peanut butter is good. I really need to try some other flavors but I eat ice cream sparingly and preferably in the Summer! I'm highly recommending Van Leeuwen. This location is handy for me when I'm in this neighborhood. I find the employees and service to be consistent at the various locations. They're knowledgeable and friendly. I have trouble finding dairy free I've cream -usually relegated to one option or sorbet only. They had about 10 vegan flavors as well as vegan toppings such as whipped coconut cream and hot fudge. Love this place. I live a 5 minute walk from here so it's always a tough one to resist going to after a long day. They're open till late too if you're in the mood for post dinner dessert. Servers are extremely curt (borderline rude) if you have any dietary restrictions. This place used to accomodate people with celiac. Unfortunately no more. Went in with my daughter and they reused so wash the spoon or serve her anything other than the ice cream from the top of the container. They don't care about celiac or cross contamination. If you want ice cream in the area go to Venchi on Columbus. They are nicer and want to accomodate their customers if they can. read more

How can I resist going to Van Leeuwen? It's a summer tradition. And I think clearly a lot of people agree considering how packed it was. I had decided to get one of the Campfire S'mores, one of their new summer flavors. It was a motley of different things and was all in all delicious. The only thing that I didn't seem to enjoy were the marshmallows hence 4 versus 5 stars. Either way, Van Leeuwen is hard not to venture off to in these hot Summer days. read more

It's not anyone's fault that the Medical Offices of Manhattan decided to open their new location a block away from Van Leeuwen. After hearing the results of your blood test, of course you need to also do self care for your mental health. What better than to have a nice cold scoop of your favorite ice cream flavor in less than 2-3 minutes! CVS wasn't nearby so a prescription of a much needed scoop of Bigface Affogato worked well for me. read more

If you're going to charge over $7 for one scoop of ice cream in a cup without any toppings, it had better come with a video showing the process all the way from the cows munching on grass in France to the milk being churned by magic fairies in NYC. Because otherwise, there's nothing that I could find to justify this ice cream being more expensive than an entire gallon of pretty good ice cream at the supermarket. read more

Love Van Leeuwen and their very unique flavors. I am not vegan, but often choose those. The current speciality ice cream of sweet potato tastes just like a sweet potato casserole. I've been to the Van Leeuwen's on the UWS and the one in Williamsburg and both are fabulous! I have been looking EVERYWHERE for OATMILK ICE CREAM! It's so much better than any other vegan ice cream I've ever had in my life and they have a CREAT Chocolate Crunch flavor that you would never even know doesn't have dairy. I HIGHLY recommend you try it, even if you aren't dairy free because it's just that delicious (I eat dairy, and non-dairy... so I can judge well ;) ). Love love love it! Prices are pretty typical NYC - this isn't a cheapy ice cream stop but you get what you pay for and it's delicious! RUN and ask for the Oatmilk Ice Cream! read more

Located pretty close to the other one on the Upper West Side, this is one of the larger of the recent locations, though it's still really standing room only. I live a block away from the Van Leeuwen location on Amsterdam Avenue but walk an extra half mile to get to this location because it's so much less crowded than the other one - there's fewer people and the space is also slightly larger. Van Leeuwen's ice cream is indulgent, creamy and multi-faceted. Their Earl Grey is a solid staple with a subtle, light mix of spice but you really can't go wrong with any flavor they offer. They also have an amazing selection of vegan oat milk/cashew ice cream so everyone can enjoy. read more

Tasted like frozen melon was crushed with ice and chopped into an ice/smoothie blend. Super refreshing. Very sweet, though. I do not like saccharine dessert. The fresh raspberry jam was a perfect balance to the pistachio cream. I never like jams in my desserts, but this was a perfect complement. Woooow, what a treat! They poured the sauce at the bottom of the cup, and it hardened slightly to create a delicious shell underneath the gelato.
