DO NOT ever go this branch, ever. So unprofessional and they will scam you. Firstly- I left extremtly unhappy fighting back tears, and the salon told me they would refund my money after speaking to a manager and calling me back the following day. They attempted to not refund my money by asking me to come in back in but I specificed I do not live in state and just came to get my hair done while I was visiting family in Atlanta. I was told the manager would "absolutly call before 6 p.m" (which is their closing time sunday.) After 4 hours, and no call back, I called them and recieved no answer even though they were suppose to be open. Eventually I reazlied this sketchy manager (who was pretending to not be there) was not going to resolve my problem or give me a refund and I had to call my credit card company and file a dispute agaisnt Van Micheal to stop my payment. Do not go here thinking they have a good policy in place where they will refund your money if they mess up- THEY WILL NOT. Not only is my hair much darker and much harsher looking than it was, it's very damaged and I wont be able to dye or lift it to even my natrual hair color for over a month. I wish I never went into this salon, I was far better off before doing business with such unprofessional and clueless people. Avoid my stylist at all cost- Her name is Roman and she did not even listen to me. I told her I had highlights and balayge for two years and I want an all over medium to light brown color (about 1-2 shades lighter than what I came in with) with out highlights. She colored my hair jet black, and tried to excuse herself by saying "it will fade"- it will not fade to the color I want or lighter which is what I came in for or paid for. She also tried to make excuses by saying "you can come back in and get highlights around your face to lighten it up" when the first thing I told her was that I did not want highlights anymore. She did not take any responsibiltiy and just kept saying it would fade. She ruined my hair and dyed it jet black (an unarutral look) that my hair has never been. I even told her when I get my hair done at Aveda they used a blue or purple based color, she applied a red color to my roots, which I wanted the brass toned out of. It looks terrible and the color is not even. I had previously had balayage hair, meaning it was bleached at the ends and took to color more than my roots which had not been bleached. Now my ends are a flat jet black with no dimension and my roots are a brassier than they were before. It will cost me so much time (several sessions) and more money to correct the disaterous coloring job by Roman, so I am taking the time to write this lengthy review to tell everyone- BEWARE. She even got a second opionon from another stylist before starting (name unknown) and clearly neither of them, nor anyone at this salon knows what they are doing if they are attemping to sliglhty lighten medium brown hair and end up coloring it jet black. The hassel to get my money back as well the the terrible coloring, I can safely say I will never revist another Van Micheal salon. They can ruin other peoples' hair, I'll stick to legitimate hair coloring places on the West Coast. Again- make sure you stree clear of this location with the horrible service, and unless youre trying to look like Wednesday Adams (but brassier)- STEER CLEAR OF ROMAN. read more

If you have long hair, this one is not for you. I have long straight hair (no curl), and I went for long layers hair cut but the stylist Bryan wasn't able to do any good despite of all the time he took and was kind of kept complaining about the length of my hair all that time, which I kind of found rude. At the end the layers were all in bad shape and my hair were not all set and tidy. I guess my hair were better when I entered the salon. Worst experience of my life! read more

I had an appt. with Avery a few days ago and I was very impressed!! She was extremely personable and down to earth. She listened to me and spent time assessing my hair and making recommendations about what type of cut and style would work best for me and my hair type and personality. She seemed extremely knowledgeable, and the end result proved it!! I love my hair and have had a number of compliments on it!!! This was my first time going to Van Michael Salon on North Highlands based on the reviews. That was my first mistake. My second mistake was making an appointment with the specific "hairstylist," which was recommended by the staff at the desk. And I put the word hairstylist in quotes because this person is far from that. I ask for an A-line bob, and I come out with a cut so opposite of what should have been done, not to mention the chuncks of hair cut out of my left side and the front of my hair where I had 4 inches cut off on the right side. Make certain you get a recommendation from someone who has been serviced at Van Michael and likes their cut before you take the recommendation from their front desk because they have not a clue. I have been going to Van Michael for several years and when my fiancé and I decided to get married, I decided to have my hair and make-up done for the wedding at the salon. Avery did my hair and it was fantastic. Laura did my make up and she is a true artist! I have never in my life felt beautiful but that day, I absolutely did! Laura also did my maid of honor's makeup and she looked just stunning! in the mood for a change? a new look? or maybe looking for someone who is just a great colorist!!! i would recommend SAGE... she does wonders!!! ladies, you can understand this. going to the same person but sometimes not getting the same results everytime... or asking for a change but not knowing what you want so you tell the colorist to do what they think... with SAGE, she can look at you and have ideas... even formulate something with little details from you. she makes me love my hair at all times. so if change is what you want...sage is the four letter name you need to remember!!! read more

I do not recommend this salon based on poor customer service. I booked a haircut with a 'new talent' the day before I was leaving for a 2 week summer vacation. I only went with the new talent because it was short notice to schedule the appointment and he was the only one available. I have very long, board straight hair and needed a TRIM. I ended up with shoulder length hair that is so frayed/layered at the bottom that it doesn't look even. When I called today to schedule an appointment to try and fix my uneven haircut I was told that since it had been over two weeks since the appointment, I will need to pay full price for another haircut. I'm not a penny pincher and was willing to do that, even though I felt it was in very poor taste of the salon to make me do that. They said it would cost $52. I explained that I don't need a shampoo or a blow dry, I just need my hair trimmed at the botton so that it looks straight, perhaps they could lower the price to reflect this. At that point the recptionist cowered behind the 'I'm sorry that is our policy and that is where the price STARTS". Are you kidding me? At this point I realize it would be foolish of me to go back to the salon that gave me a bad haircut in the first place but it would be doubly foolish to pay a fortune to have them fix it! Obviously this salon feels they are doing well enough that they do not need to worry about ensuring their customers are pleased with the services they render. I am a long time customer of van Michael. I have been going to Van Michael for over 20 years. First I would like to say that the stylists and colorists have always provided outstanding service as well as being courteous and professional. Also, let me add I am some who books appointments well in advance. I already have my appointments booked through January 2018. I went into the salon on 11/5/16 for my appointment with Dallas at 2:30pm. An appointment I have had booked since last year. I was told that I did not have an appointment and that Dallas had another client at that time. I should add that I had booked an appointment online for eyebrow wax the following week on 11/2/16. When you book online, you can see your future appointments. I checked at that time to confirm my appointment with Dallas and it said November 5, 2:30pm. So I know my appointment was there? No one from the salon contacted me? I told them that I have appointments every 2 weeks which I book well in advance and then asked to print ALL of my appointments. I made it very clear that I wanted an explanation about what happened. I was told that Angel, the manager, was looking into it. If she did not speak to me today, that she would call me and provide an explanation. Every time I looked in Angel's direction, she completely avoided eye contact. She has not called me. They didn't even let Dallas know I was there. They called Rayne, who was on her lunch break at the grocery store, to come back and do my hair. They did not tell her who it was or what type of color was needed. Lucky for me, I am a C1, so I am pretty easy to do. She got back at 2:50pm. She had an appointment at 3:30pm. She got my hair done in time. Again, the stylist and colorist are great. I would still like to know why my appointment was deleted for no reason. read more

After 7 + years, I have only twice asked if the colorist could work me in to her schedule. Once due to my brother in laws passing and the second was last week because I was in traffic for 2.5 hours on Peachtree Dunwoody and missed my appointment. You would think that somehow, someone could have worked me in within the next few days. Instead, I was told I needed to reschedule two weeks out. I spoke to D the manager. WOW. Never offered once to try and work with me. Instead, she told me Van Michaels would be there if I ever wanted to come back. REALLY!! You think you will continue to grow your client base and maintain the clients you do have?? Word of mouth can hurt a business. I am glad I have a choice and I challenge you ladies out there while you are sitting in the waiting area to just look at the women walking out? Is the haircut really all that? Does the color stand out from any other person in your office or at the club? Ladies and Gents, make sure you do not expect exceptional customer service , because you will not recieve it at VAN Michaels in Sandy Springs.
