I should have believed what I saw and heard. Reviews online said don't go here. My mother told me the same thing. I got there at 4:30 and my appointment was at 4:45. It took them 15 minutes for them to find me a service advisor. I was having my oil changed and an alignment and didn't leave Toyota until almost 7:15. The nice young lady who was my service advisor told me that the manager was going to give me $200 off of my brake job since I had to wait so long. Once it came time for me to leave. I wanted to ask the manager how I knew I was gonna get $200 off my brake job. Instead of saying it's on your account or I can write it on your receipt. He decided to argue and said I had not been there for 2 1/2 hours because I didn't get checked in until 5. Terrible customer service from the manager who should be fired for arguing with a customer that had been there over two hours. i'll never be back and you shouldn't either. read more

Bought a Certified Preowned 2023 Tacoma for my wife. During the negotiation process, they try to charge $1,000 on a reconditioning fee. Seats were dirty, missing floor mats, dents in the hood, bed scraped up, gashes in the dash. But they said the certified process brings the vehicle to its "gold standard". Ultimately they agreed to remove it. We made an agreement on getting the seats cleaned, new floor mats, the dents fixed and two working keyfobs. Got everything wrapped up and we went on our way. Fast forward two weeks later, I hear nothing from them on delivering on their end of the agreement. I had to go down there and talk to the used sales manager who scheduled me to get all of that squared away the following Tuesday. I'd need to drop it off which was no worries. Dropped it off at 9:00 AM as scheduled. Get a call several hours later that the truck was ready to go. I get there, everything was done but no keyfobs. Aaron, the salesman I worked with originally, said the guy that programs their keyfobs has my information and would call to schedule a time to come to my home and take care of it. Over two weeks go by again...nothing. I reached out via the chat feature on their website about the issue and they called me asking for specifics on the used car I'm interested in buying... I ALREADY BOUGHT A VEHICLE. I want what's owed to me on our agreement. I'm told I'll get a call back. This is now three days later and nothing. I walked into Vandergriff Toyota today to buy a car. They had advertised it on their website for approximately 21.5k. Nothing on the website said it was internet only. We brought our own financing, so we should have been able to buy the car at the price stated on the website, right? Wrong. They sold my sister a used Durango months ago that they cannot get a title to. It has been several months and a lot of calls and driving back and forth and still no answer. They just quit calling back and the temporary tags are about to run out again for the 5th time. They now have a dealership tag on it that runs out in 2 days. According to them , they are not responsible for the title yet they were the dealership she dealt with and paid cash. Now that they have their money they could care less. This has been by far the worst experience we have ever had with any dealership. My husband and I went into this dealership to purchase a vehicle. Everything went smoothly in the beginning and we were approved through a finance company with a $1000 down payment. We were able to take the car home that day. About a week later we were told we actually were not approved and that they needed more information. I informed them that I was not aware people could take a car without being approved. We went back and forth for a couple of more weeks providing even more information. In the end, the car had to be taken back to the dealership. They did not refund me the down payment!!! This company is stealing from us, it was not our fault that they gave us the car without being approved. I need my money back! Overall my experience wis not bad, however I will be finding a different service department for my future service needs. I had over 2000.00 in service performed on my vehicle, when I went in to pick it up after the service was completed. I was directed to go to the cashier and they would then bring up my vehicle. while standing in line I did see a note taped to the back of her monitor that said they charge a 3% surcharge for any credit card payment. When I handed her my card she asked if I had seen that notice. I told her yes I did, however no one had mentioned it prior. Had I been told prior to the time of payment I probably would have made arrangements to pay differently. I do understand that there is a cost that merchants pay to credit card companies for each transaction, I understand them wanting to pass that on if they can, however most places especially something like a car dealership usually just eat that cost and move on, or raise the prices a bit to cover it and never say a word. I could also see them offering a "cash" discount. but wording it as a "Surcharge" and hiding the fact that this would be added, utile after service was completed is not right. It is just the principal of the thing. I think they need to be upfront about this kind of thing. read more

Went in to buy a used Camry at the advertised price. When the paperwork came the price had risen a bit over $4K. I walked. Half way home I got a call from my salesman with an apology and asked me to come back to buy at the advertised price. To my surprise the sales manager sat with me and tried to justify why they had to get $4K more than the advertised price. I was furious. I walked again and they reduced it to the advertised price. Pervious service- March 2021 4/5 stars. -I would like to thank Mauricio Reyes for getting my Prius back on the road again. I thought I'd have to get rid of it after months of repair at other shops, but my car got fixed here in less than a week. Recent service- July 2021 4/5 star for the service department and 1/5 for the sales department. As noticed above I have had positive experiences with the service department getting my car back on the road and I thank James Cartwright Sr. for the great customer service he provided me and would bring my car here again for future maintenance. However, the reason I have dropped the rating for this location from 4 to 2 stars was my experience with the sales department. The morning I dropped my car off at the service department on Saturday , I later during the day received a call from a salesperson named Prosper who wanted to buy my car. I didn't expect that type of call and a little confused and told him I wanted to know what's wrong with my car first before deciding what to do. On the following Monday, he texted me saying he wanted to help me out by buying my car and getting me another vehicle. Against my better judgement and met with him at the dealership. When I arrived there, I sit down on one of the table and Prosper come over and asked for my recent paystub. He immediately started pushing me to get rid of my vehicle and finance for a new one. I told him still had a title loan to pay off on it and the amount I had left to pay off. He patronized me for the situation I was in, disregarding that we are coming out of a pandemic that have caused unforeseen hardship for million of people like me. He suggested I "default" on making payments on the title loan and let my car get repossessed and make new payments on a new car to build back my credit score! I was shocked about what I just heard and just sit there while he constantly walked away from our conservation to talk to other people. When he walked by me again he told me not to just sit there worrying about my score and said he's done this many times and walked away. I was infuriated that I had my time wasted and for being preyed on by a greedy salesperson. Thankfully, the work needed on the car was covered under warranty and got it back on the road soon after. More like Vandergrift! I will never go back. In my quest to find a good used car, I scoured all of the car buying websites, and found what sounded like a good deal. Low mileage 3 year old car with all of the bells and whistles I wanted, including manual transmission. I tried on the car, and after trying a few other cars elsewhere, I went back to buy from Vandergriff Toyota. After 2 months, I'm still fairly happy with the used car I bought. My experience with Vandergriff Toyota did not leave me happy. I got a bad feeling from the start, and should have walked away, but I assumed with Vandergriff's long history in the area I must have just been tired and hungry. The salesman advised me that in addition to the $13k price online, there were various and assorted other fees revealed only after you start the buying process (hidden behind an * in the legalese). He assured me that this is common practice in the industry, but that really should have been my first sight to walk away. But I wanted the car. And I suppose they knew it. The fees whittled my expected down payment to barely anything. Because of this, the financing I'd secured before coming would no longer cover the full cost of the vehicle, so they ran my excellent credit 4 times to try to secure me a loan that I found acceptable. I was adamant that I did not want the terms of the loan to be longer than 6 years. After some back and forth with the sales guy, he managed to get the pricing in the range I needed so I could afford the monthly payments (I did not tell him my target payments, but I could see he could see I was doing the mental math). Job done, he moved me over to the waiting area for the finance department. After sitting around for 20 minutes, mulling the whole situation over, I thought about leaving, but I talked myself into staying. The finance guy immediately starts upselling warranty support and insists that I need the free oil changes for the life of the loan, except that would push my payments higher, and I could not accept that. I told him that I could not afford to pay more than the agreed upon $220/month. He did his song and dance back and forth about the warranty and mysteries of the unknown; and with the title of my old vehicle in my hand I almost walked out of his office. I should have. Realizing he was losing me, he asked me to wait while he worked something out and vanished. When he came back he said they'd worked out a deal so I could get some warranty support, without raising my rate. I should have asked how, but I was 2.5 hours into the process and I just wanted to be done with it. That's my mistake. He flashed paperwork at me, all the while asking me to confirm that I'd seen the paperwork (well, you just flashed it at me so, yeah), and said he'd email me a copy of everything. I watched him scan signed documents into his system, but at no point did he offer me a packet with the signed paperwork. I keep meticulous records, so this was an added annoyance, but I knew I could get it sorted out later. As it was late in the day (I'm pretty sure they were "closed" by this point) he ushered me out a side door, but at least I had the newer car. I thanked him for his time, even though I did not feel thankful, and drove home. I discovered that they had not quite finished detailing the car. There were streaks of something (Armor All?) on the passenger side doors (front and back), some litter in the between seats cubby, and an unwrapped straight razor in the storage bin of the driver side door (fortunately I saw it before I grabbed it), and the floor mats were just tossed in rather than being properly affixed to their locks. Which...after the beating I took with the finance guy seems paltry in comparison. I did not receive the emailed documents, and had to call multiple times to get them. When they did finally email the documents to me, it was just the pages that I'd signed. No Carfax or warranty information, as promised. And looking at the signed pages, I realized that they signed me up for a 75 month loan...against my declared desire not to have a loan longer than 6 years...which is only 72 months! I know it's my fault for not paying closer attention to what I was signing, but I have never felt so abused by a dealership. With everything combined, this experience has completely soured me on the Vandergriff name, and I will NEVER do business with any of their locations again. They can keep their blasted warranty service, IF they even gave it to me in the first place, since 2 months later I STILL have no proof of it! read more

Dalton (my sales guy) and John (my finance guy) - They were awesome! First, I was extremely pleased as I drove off the lot with the used vehicle I purchased yesterday. This was my first car buying experience where I handled everything from beginning to end without anyone else (I.e. a parent) involved. By the end of it all, I felt great about the deal I got and very well taken care of by both Dalton and John. I have two quick things to say on these guys. #1) How they did their job -Dalton was great with communication throughout the entire vetting and buying process. I found him to be both forthcoming and patient, as I had more than a few questions and requests concerning the vehicle I was interested in. Even more than that, I felt that he was sincerely looking out for my interests and not only his own, which I appreciated since salespeople are incentivized to maximize sales & profits. -John has to be the guy to go to for finance. He really knows what he is doing, and he took great care of me. Very personable, professional, & ethical! #2) How they handled a situation At one point during the actual signing process I was unpleasantly surprised by a change in terms that came down from management. My rating would be no stars. My daughter and I went to Vandergriff Toyota to test, drive a Toyota Corolla. The sales guy was new it was his second day, and instead of letting him learn the ropes a sales guy by the name of Matthew decided to handle the test drive and everything else. They went and found the most dirtiest and stinkiest Toyota Corolla to test drive. After we finish the test drive, I told him thank you for his time I needed to speak to my husband who was at work. Matthew wanted me to talk to his business manager, Brandon Harris. I told him I wasn't interested and we were just shopping around. Brandon Harris came in and said that the vehicle that we test drove was a really good deal and it was the end of the month so they're making deals. So after he couldn't get me to budge then they bring in another manager. He said that they have a 2023 black Toyota Corolla out front where the deal fell through. I ask what is the price of the vehicle he said $28,995 and and there was no real negotiation on it. I told him thank you and we left the dealership. When I went back home, I went on Vandergriff website they had a Corolla that we did not see that was a 2023 Toyota corolla LE $22,619. I called Matthew and he said that vehicle was in the shop because it had a minor scrape on the bumper. I told Matthew I would be back over on Monday around 11 AM. Matthew said OK so when I got to the dealership vehicle was parked out front. He said that there was a factory recall and he could sell the vehicle but we could not pick it up until the following week. I went and did a test drive and came back to do some paperwork. This is where I lost all respect for Vandergriff dealership. The car was listed at $22,619 and once again, it was the last day of the month. They added $3546 dealer accessories. My husband was on speaker and ask what is this $3500 for? Matthew said they had to replace the bumper and detail the vehicle. My husband said we're absolutely not paying $3500 for that y'all need to eat that cost. On top top of that we already had financing and my husband wanted to know why were they talking about monthly payment. My husband told him thank you and told me to go ahead and leave and have a nice day. Then Matthew goes and get another manager with another piece of paper with a new price. When my son in law took the Toyota 2020 RAV4 I was interested in buying for a test drive the low tire pressure light was on. He said if she buys this vehicle the low tire pressure light has to be addressed. The sales man said no problem! I put a $1,000 down & they said they could deliver it to me the following Tuesday. It was dark when he got to my son in law & daughter's home. Right away I drove it. About 3 miles . I really like the RAV4. The next day the low tire pressure light came on. Odd I thought. My son in law checked the pressure & the rear right tire pressure it was all the way down to only having 8 pounds ! WHAT? All 4 tires were low but not that low! He filled them to the right amount of pressure. This means the sales man drove my vehicle more then 20 miles with very little tire pressure on the back rear tire. My vehicle sat for a few days & both back tires looked low. Yes! They were both loosing air. WOW. After my son in law checked all 4 tires he noticed that my 4 tires were not from the same company. My Toyota only had 28,000 miles. The previous owner must have taken the tires off this vehicle & replaced them with older tires before he traded it in on something else. I live in WI & I will be driving back to WI with my son next week. I was very concerned about driving 1200 miles on bad tires. Who knows how many miles were actually on those tires! Initially I found an ad for this place on 5 miles. The gist of the ad was that bad credit was ok. After contacting a sales rep, I was very upfront about the current financial situation. Made an appointment to see a vehicle and drove out to check them out. We couldn't work out a deal with the first vehicle. Checked out another one and pretty much hashed out the beginnings of a deal. I come in the next day with the down payment ready, and get told the car is in service, they pitch the 1st car again. I can't make it work so we go to leave. In comes a member of the management team trying to work with what I've got. We come to an agreement, then we head back inside. Everything seems to be going well, I even get to lower my down, then while he's away, in comes the initial salesman telling me I need to put more down. I exaggerated that the money I brought for the previous agreement was all I could do, and he insisted that I had to put more down. By this point, my ride has already left, as we were thinking I was about to pay and get the keys. I hoped, as I waited for a $45 Uber, to at least get an apology from the sales manager for the inconvenience, but it almost seemed as if him, as well as the rest of the staff were avoiding me I am highly disappointed. I came in expecting to make a deal with what I had, as it had been stated the day before, and the salesman texted me the day of (1-2 hours prior to arriving) saying everything was ready to go, when the car had been sold from under me, wasting mine, and my pal's time going out there when he didn't even have a good enough backup plan. It only reinforces the commission hungry salesmen employing car dealership stereotype that the salesman's 5 Miles profile claimed to be veering away from I understand that not everything is in their control. We came into Vandergriff Toyota shopping for a used vehicle on 07-13-2021. At the time we were just starting to look so no expectations of purchasing a vehicle that day. I was advised to ask for "Shack" the sales manager. He did great in helping us close on a deal after we test drove several vehicles. After determining and agreeing on a final cost, the deal was passed over to the finance guys. No financing was required thus should have been an easy transition to sign over the check after completing the paperwork. Red Flag #1: They wanted my nephew to fill out and sign a Credit Agreement form. This was a cash car so, why would that be a requirement. I told my nephew not to sign anything. They claimed it was just to get Personal info like name, address, etc and that it was the "only" form that had that information listed in one place. Red Flag #2: After they tried to sell extended warranty and after declining, Marvin continued to try to upsell and come with a better offer, so forth and so on. We declined again. It continued to happen and I told Marvin we needed to wrap this up, we are ready to go home. This was a cash deal thus this process should not take this long. He began to mansplain that a used car might have issues after driving off the lot. (Like duh, who doesn't know that). Moving on to the nitty-gritty. RED FLAG #3: The second finance guy, Ahmad typed in the numbers on the sale agreement. As we were reviewing and verifying the information, GUESS WHAT CHANGED? The bottom line vehicle cost we agreed upon. When calling him out that the cost was incorrect, Ahmad asked us "What should it be?". After telling him to ask our sales associate or the Used Car manager "Shack", the other finance guy found the paperwork. (Convenient isn't it). After sending Shack (Used car manager), Ahmad Shahin (Finance manager), and Charles Evans (GM) an email on 07-20-2021, I have yet to receive an email back or apologies. I was not pleased when I found out at the end that I had to pay 3% extra on my credit card use. I noticed the sign at the end so I think it should be mentioned to the consumer by the attending representative as they are being told about what maintenance is being performed. My attending representative had a sign that was so small to the consumer and covered over. He gets a 9 rating because he was professional overall. I still do not understand the 3% because your establishment is still getting paid either way credit or debit. I was told that the reason is because consumers are racking up points on their credit cards, what a bunch of baloney. What does that matter? I will no longer be going to your Service Department unless it is mandatory. I will get my oil changes at other places. I also asked the cashier about MILITARY DISCOUNT which she stated "DID YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TELL YOU" NO he did not. Why was I asked this question? The wait alone for that was about 2 hours which I wouldn't have mind it too much except for the fact that when I got in my car it felt hot including the steering wheel which tells me that my car had probably been ready way before they had told me that my car was ready and it had been sitting in the sun for a good while. Toyota of Dallas or VANDERGRIFF.. as far as vandergriff, I can honestly say the salesman was helpful and very respectful of my time.. the rest of the place is a dumpster fire. I was up front with my credit which qualified me for their best rate of 1.9 for 60 mos and they came back with their "offer" showing me numbers at 5.99% .... btw, this is an old game dealers play to get u to focus on a payment and not the actual full set of numbers.. they must think this is still early 2000s when people couldn't easily google rates or incentives.. I also had a Trucar offer for my trade for 19625 (from their store) which they claimed was not correct because it didn't include dealer costs so 18000 was the best they could do.. when I asked for my keys, the salesperson was I instructed to take me for a test drive instead. Desk manager Joshua L. was very condescending and his attitude was not appreciated.. He claimed their internet pricing was hit the actual price because of darker adds.. so basically take the internet price and add $2000 or so.. In contrast.. I emailed Charles Maund Toyota(Austin) and Travis # 2 texted me.. made a deal with him over the phone and gave them a deposit. drove down to austin and picked it up.. Took my Rav4 in for an oil change which I thought I needed ( maintenance required light was on), they said no not yet (only 5000 mls since last oil change).. but did say should rotate tires.. ok. while waiting they brought me my air filter and allegedly my cabin air filter.. my air fliter was smudged with black stuff , . only thing is , when I took a picture of it 5 days prior it was impeccable! someone in the service dept wiped their hands on some brake dust then on to my air filter.. trying to scam an up sell. photos available as proof!! don't trust them! read more

I was contacted by their agent Elijah about a car for sale. I agreed to buy it and they even ran my credit report online. While on my way to have them appraise my trade in, Elijah text me that they sold the car to another customer. I called the sales manager Tim and he confirmed this is common practice at Vandergriff Toyota but he would find be a similar car. He never contacted me back after that call. RUN don't walk away from this dealership. read more

Wow. Two experiences in one week both bad. My father went in to buy a new car and was ready to pay full price. They immediately tried to charge him $21000 over. As soon as he balked, they dropped it $11000. Seriously? I know dealerships are notorious for gouging but this is outrageous. We started to get up and they went down another $3000. Needless to say, no car. My husband bought a pre-owned car from them. They gave him one key fob and said it would be $325 for a second. When he balked, they dropped to $250 and wouldn't budge. People- you can buy a key fob new on eBay for $50 and a locksmith will program it for $50. So $100. They are straight up theives. DO NOT GO TO VANDERGRIFF. We know car dealerships are what they are but this is beyond the pale. read more

I test drove a 2019 Rav4 with Joe Alvarez of Vandergriff Toyota. The car seemed ok to me, but I'm not a mechanic. At the time Vandergriff had not disclosed any problems with the car. I hired the Lemon Squad (888-231-7965) to look over the car. The manager told me that I could trust the Toyota mechanics, but I wanted an unbiased opinion. The next morning I received a call from Mr. Alvarez telling me that the Lemon Squad mechanic had checked out the car, and the only thing they reported was a smoke smell, which Vandergriff could detail out. I decided to pass, as I didn't want to take any chances with smoke odor. They must have tried to treat the odor the day before, as I didn't smell it when I test drove the car. Mr. Alvarez didn't disclose any other problems with the car at that time, and he encouraged me to come buy the car that day. When I received the report directly from the Lemon Squad, however, the information was different. In addition to the smoke smell, they also reported finding rust on the undercarriage, and all 4 tires had dry rot. They said I would need to purchase 4 new tires immediately. I was quite disappointed with Mr. Alvarez for not disclosing all of the information that had been reported, and glad I waited to hear from the unbiased source. read more

I have never purchased a vehicle from Vandergriff Toyota, but for years I have had my vehicles serviced there--primarily out of convenience. Twice a cover on the bottom of the engine of my vehicle was not secured after servicing and I almost lost the cover both times. Another time, after having the spark plugs replaced, I began hearing a rattling noise that sounded like it was coming from underneath the dash. When I decided to have the windshield replaced I though I would have Vandergriff check out the rattling at that time. When the windshield was replaced, not only did they not check out the rattling noise, they also did not secure the cowl panels that needed to be removed in order to replace the windshield. Additionally, while driving down the interstate, a trim piece that fits at the top of the windshield blew off. It took two or three visits to Vandergriff before I could finally get the windshield properly fixed and the rattling noise checked out. It turns out that the rattling noise was from a spark plug that the mechanic dropped somewhere in the engine compartment when he changed my spark plugs. Even considering this poor level of service, the worst part was dealing with the service advisor, Mauricio Reyes. As soon as I brought up the issues I was having, he became somewhat hostile and just said they can refund my money. He had zero interest in hearing about the issues I was having. This guy should not be working in customer service. After the horrible experience with Mr. Reyes, I was referred to Liz McGarr. She was professional and very helpful and enabled me to finally get the rattling noise checked out and the windshield work done properly. However, even after these bad experiences, I was told that I needed over $5000 of work done on my vehicle to replace camshaft seals. Kind of a slap in the face!. I've been quoted high prices for work in the past that I never got performed. Finally, even after all of what I described in my post, I would probably still have basic oil changes done there except for the experience that I had with the service advisor. That experience alone had made me decide to take my vehicle elsewhere for service. read more

Worst management and very unprofessional sales manager named Pat ( Tall white guy with glasses). They bait on their customers and blame the lower level staff for it. One of the worst experience I have ever had as 3 time Toyota vehicle owner. I spoke with sales representative named Bianca. I had clearly told her three times about the price and she said she confirmed it with her senior in this case Pat before I made one way 75miles trip. He even called me before I headed out there to make sure I was on my way. It's your car, your price and your rules. It's fair dealership has to make money and has final say on the sales. Please don't call your customers and tell them something else once they arrive.Had they told me they needed a written proof of the price from elsewhere which I didn't other than the text I wouldn't have made that trip. I sent the text before I made the trip and even told Bianca to confirm which she said she did but Mr pat upon arrival said Bianca didn't do what she was told. 2 things I didn't understand is when I told what I was offered from the other dealership then you already knew the number, you could have just said no we can't match it like two other dealerships did. Why did you realize that the numbers were unbeatable after I arrived and second was why couldn't you clearly tell me while I was on the phone prior to my arrival that I needed written proof if you really wanted to blame Bianca for it?? This dealership needs to understand that our time is also precious and please don't waste no one's time. People please be aware of this dealership. From my today's (5/1/24) experience I felt like they just somehow want to bring people in make several rounds of unnecessary back and forth bargain to frustrate the customer so they agree in the dealerships favor. I m writing this review to alert future customers to clearly communicate before arriving to any dealership because all they will say is oh I'm sorry but we are the ones wasting our time. read more
