When here for a little problem with Wisdom tooth. They examined so many things X-rays and pictures taken from mobile it took me more than an hour for everything during the first visit. It was quick and the person who took did the exam was very nice and friendly and explained things pretty well. Went here 10 minutes in advance of my appointment and was called 10 minutes past my appointment. I was referred by my prior dentist upon their retirement to an independent caregiver that soon joined this practice. During a routine visit it was recommended that I have a wisdom tooth removed due to the susceptibility of bacterial infection. I had the tooth pulled. Upon my next routine visit this same caregiver said with surprise, and I quote, "oh you had a tooth pulled". That was a red flag I missed. Did they not recall their prognosis? Did they not read their notes or my records? On several subsequent visits I was told that I needed two crowns, and an existing (gold) crown replaced. Being convinced by the caregiver and the staff I agreed to have "milled" porcelain crowns produced in-house, and celebrated the one visit process. Oral health is the gateway to overall health, right? It was also recommended that I purchase a plural component fluoride rinse, at well over $100. I did and when I discovered the product was well expired was told to "use it anyway". That said, the crowns I received never seemed right. They were not painful but I knew they were there. Not what one should be aware of. Short story long... I have a new provider and my X-rays have revealed what is called "open margins" between my natural tooth structure and the crowns provided by Van derhoff Smiles. The crowns do not fit. These folks led me to believe I was under the best and most technologically advanced care. They didn't even check their work. I paid several thousand dollars for work that now must be corrected, at a cost of several more thousand dollars. It will be money well spent. But what a shame for all the missteps that have compelled me to write this. read more

Excellent dental care in a comfortable environment. If you have a 10:00 appointment, they take you in at 10:00. In all the years I have been coming here, there have never been any delays. I highly recommend Dr. Hirsch. He's an interesting guy. Once right before Christmas I had a Williams-Sonoma cookbook with me and I was contemplating a dessert for company that night involving persimmons. He noticed the cookbook and advised that I wouldn't be able to locate ripe persimmons in time and to pick another dish. I appreciated him telling me that. Moved to Bellevue from Seattle and picked this dentist from yelp reviews, had a first appt and decided wasnt for me. Nothing disasterous, but the experience wasnt what i was used to in seattle. no where close. The positives: The dentist himself. The Doctor actually did the cleaning and was very knowledgeable (obviously), courteous and patient. The bright star in the whole experience is the critical one. The negatives: The support staff & Technology. Booking an appt here was very "bellevue". Cash-focused than experience focused. They wanted to do xrays even before they met me, the person on the phone was a bit technology challenged, i felt quite rude Which again compared to my Seattle dentist was very off-putting. Part of the initial docs is the paragraph about how i have to pay money if I am late to an appt by 30 mins. Not that i plan on being late for doctor's appt, but seriously that is just rude and money swindling tactic that leaves a very bad taste in your mouth. And ofcourse i was left waiting 20 mins - what my time is not important, but yours is? No apologies nothing, either. RUDE! The technology was also quite dated and did not have the quality i was used to. There is no tv, music or other choices to get your mind off the dentist place like i was used to. The hygenist/dental asst wasnt any better and was the most rude of them all, which was the real reason i wont go here again. She had a condescending tone when i said my previous dentist had done the xrays earlier the yr and emailed me xrays to use here, she gives me a website address and didnt know the diff between a website than an email address, and even said things that made it seem like she thought i was the outdated one. No offer for a numbing mouthwash for the clean and worst of it all - making me hold the damn suction tube so i can suck on it after each mouth rinse. Seriously?? That is my job?? That was a first ever. I seriously believe with a better support staff the dentist could havea great practice; but i am not going back here. read more

I moved to the US from China around 1.5 years ago and have always had dental problems. I had some emergency work done in China, but my teeth were still a mess and I was very self conscious about them. I was also very scared of visiting the dentist but I really wanted to get my teeth fixed so I chose Main Street Dental based on the Yelp reviews . I saw Dr. VanDerhoef and had a great experience. He was really patient with me and explained everything he was going to do, and was also very honest about what dental work needed to be done now, what could be done in the near future, and what didn't necessarily have to be done at all. I ended up having to go in six times, but each time it was painless and I felt very comfortable, even though I was nervous beforehand. He also called me after my first few appointments to make sure everything was ok, I guess he could tell how nervous I was. I thought that was a really nice touch! Finally, a dental office that doesn't see me as a walking wallet, imagine my surprise when it's a Bellevue office that treats me like a human not a car payment! I went to see Dr. Hirsch for my first time today. I know and know he knows that I need a fair amount of work and maintenance and so forth. I don't have a lot of experience going to the dentist, as a kid we went for emergency visits only. My first cleaning wasn't until my mid-20's. I'm not a big fan of the dental chair, let me tell you! So, I arrived early for my appointment, xrays in hand. The receptionist is super nice, she greets me with a big smile and makes me feel completely at ease. When it's my turn to be called to the big chair, Dr. Hirsch introduces himself and leads me to a chair in an open room separated by a partition. I like that I'm not in some tiny room in the back corner of the building. He tells me this visit we're only going to do a few xrays, he's going to get to know my mouth (aka he's going to poke around) and then we're talk about my dental history and what he recommends. I was delighted that the appointment was painless, I have a clear understanding of my most urgent dental issues, my 2nd most urgent and things that can be left alone if I want. He explained how I have some neglect issues (I know that) and that it would be best that I don't skip out on the 2-3 cleanings a year. In addition he explained the benefits of doing it and the consequences of not doing it. This office did not pressure me nor did they did not make me feel uncomfortable that I could only have appointments first thing in the morning or last thing at night. I'm very excited about this because at my last dental office, I was given a laundry list of things to do ASAP (including, root canals, extraction and braces) and an estimate that was thousands of dollars after my insurance paid it's part. That was on my first and only visit to that office. I have already scheduled my next appointment with Main Street Dental and as weird as it sounds, I'm kinda looking forward to it. read more

I live in Ballard and could not find a dentist with a good review in the greater Seattle area who was on my insurance so I drove to Main Street Dental. I hate going to the dentist...I'm terrified of the drill, the scraping gives me the willies, and I get so nervous my palms sweat. Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised. They use a water pik-thingy (technical term!) prior to scrapin plaque to lessen the need to scrape. It was quick, painless, and I was in and out in no time flat. The dentist is pretty universally considered a horrifying experience. I hadn't been in an embarrassing amount of years, but I've been twice in the last week and I'm really glad I picked this place. For both appointments, I had Kianna (not sure if I spelled that right) as my hygienist -- a delightful lady! -- and Dr. Styrlund as my dentist. They kept me giggling the whole time (even when my mouth was full of frightening equipment, which is a feat), and the only painful parts were performed perfunctorily and with sympathy. They only found one little cavity and I came back in this morning to have it filled, and had a chance to talk with Dr. Styrlund a bit more -- he gave me sincere, honest advice (which didn't involve buying anything from him) and he even sanded/polished down a stain on my tooth impulsively for no extra charge. They're really wonderful people here. Both appointments had almost no waiting time, and the receptionist remembered my name the second time. Everyone here is lovely. I leave smiling. read more

Our family have been using Main Street Dental, just because it is so close to our place, but I got another great reason to keep going there. They recently got a new doctor(I believe his name is "VanDerhoef") and an RDH(Her first name is "Miho" if I remember right). They are both a lot younger than previous staff, but turned out to be excellent professionals. My wife and I recently had a chance to have a treatment by them (my wife got cavity to fill, and I got gum issue which need to be deep-clean), and both of them were a lot more thorougher, a lot more careful, and nicer than the previous team. It is great to have such a good "dental team" in our community. I had always hesitated to go dental treatment, but not anymore. I can highly recommend this place with confidence now. read more

I thank my lucky stars that I found Dr. Hirsch. I originally was introduced to him by my a friend, then I started to take my grandparents. My grandmother doesn't have the greatest teeth, nor is she an easy patient to deal with since she can't speak English and I have to translate for her each time, but Dr. Hirsch is always so patient, and caring is the right word. It's hard to find an honest and genuinely nice dentist like this. He's not aggressive in pushing to have procedures done, and gives an honest assessment of what needs to be done, or can wait and watch. He's very experienced. In addition, their front staff (PJ and another woman) are very pleasant and accommodating. The location is great - on Main Street in downtown Bellevue, plus there is plenty of parking. The dental offices are clean and comfortable and warm feeling - unlike some places that feel like a cold hospital like setting. I had no pain before, but now, I do. They estimated 112 dollars from my pocket after the insurance deduction, but they charged 110 dollars more. Dr. VanderHoef and the dental hygienists are always very pleasant, friendly, they get me in and out quickly. My eight years old son have approximately five-cavities. Our desire to not let my son go to sleep under anesthesia, lead us to try Dr. Vanderhoelf Smiles with just local anesthesia. Not only was my son amazing, but Dr. Vanderhoelf staff and himself was awesome! Both the doctor and dental assistants (Andy and Kevin) were wonderful and put my son at ease. They were patient and caring people. It took two appointments for all the cavities, but I was pleasantly surprised at Dr. Vanderhoelf's quick work, not to mention, the nice and practically unnoticeable fillings he had just performed on my son -- it took him only 15-20 minutes per appointment. The best part is, Dr. Vanderhoelf, somehow convinced my son not to eat candy -- not once did my son asked for any sweets after the his dental appointment and it's been over 10 days. Dr vanderheuf has been my dentist for about 3 years. I have pretty big fears about major dental work and he is very patient and explains everything in a way that makes me more comfortable. I am not one to give 5 stars often, but I have to tell you about this place. I have not had a cleaning in 1 year and I knew it was not going to be good. Staff is awesome, pleasant and they listen. Miho was/is my hygienist. Had to get X-rays. (I hate it). She was very nice, methodical, but empathized. She truly knows how to treat a patient. Did the bottom teeth and was scheduled to do uppers in a couple of days. My teeth were bad and would require a deeper cleaning. "I will have a quote for you momentarily." "Here we go, I said" expecting a $200-$300 bill. Was I surprised when I saw $39. And while I did have to be numbed for the second cleaning, all went as expected. Now my entire family is going. Oh, met with Dr. VanDerhoef. Young, personable, but most of all - Professional. Love this place! read more

Dr Hirsch has been my dentist for over ten years and I have recommended him to many friends. His office is small but I never have trouble getting an appt with him. Due to being out of the area for college, I've had other dentists as well, but always come back to Dr Hirsch. He explains everything he does in simple language and never tries to force expensive and invasive procedures on his patients (unlike some other dentists) when they are not warranted. Beware! I got assigned to the new dentist at the practice last month. They told me I have two cavities, after not having any cavities for 20+ years. Joanie and Dr. Vu showed me the x-rays but I was not convinced. So I went to a new dentist for a new exam and x-rays. No cavities found, all teeth in good shape. Dr. Hirsch has been my dentist, off and on (due to college, changes in insurance, etc) for almost twenty years now. There was a period in the mid-2000s where I went to see another dentist because he was covered by my insurance at the time and Dr Hirsch was not, but I came to regret that transgression and came sheepishly crawling back to Main Street Dental- I'll be sticking with Dr Hirsch until he retires (which will hopefully coincide with me phasing into the denture part of old age). Anyway, I like his personality (he's nice and knows a plethora about food and restaurants) and I trust him- there have been several times when he treated me with a cheaper, less invasive option than the more expensive alternative- I've never felt like he was trying to oversell me on expensive care I didn't need (which is how I felt when I went to the other place in the mid-2000s, you can read my other reviews if you are dying to find out more). The office is small and kind of old-school but nice in a non-pretentious sort of way. Like how you would picture a dental office in a small town (aka on Main Street!).
