Dr. Barron is truly one of the most gifted dentists I've ever encountered. Not to get too graphic, but I suffered an event where I lost multiple teeth and had severe facial trauma, and he was able to prevent me having to get a dental implant. He completely saved what he could of the shards of my front teeth that were left and he gave me one of the most beautiful smiles. I get compliments on it daily. Dr. Barron also does my Botox for my TMJ and he is one of the very few dentist in the entire Seattle area who does that and he is fabulous with his placement and use of Botox. If you're looking for the best dentist in Seattle for any and all of your dental needs, choose him. You'll not find a more compassionate, competent, wonderful dentist. I initially consulted Dr. Barron for implants after my regular dentist had given up on my recurring dental problems and recommended dentures or implants. During the exam, Dr. Barron told me this wasn't necessary or advisable due to my bone density. He asked me to give him a year to improve the bad bacteria in my mouth and to restore my dental health. Dr. Barron ordered oral DNA testing and a treatment program with dental hygienist Kurt. I returned to the office for regular cleanings and had some old crowns replaced. The staff taught me how to do home care properly. Just over a year later, I'm happy to say my gums are in great health. My teeth are strong and I'm enjoying the best dental health of my adult life. I originally went to Dr. Barron expecting to spend $50k+ on implants but instead, spent a few thousand and get to enjoy my healthy, natural teeth. Dr. Barron is a insurance fraud waiting to happen. They have very shady billing practices. Assume you are NOT going to pay what they have initially quoted and you WILL be overcharged even for simple procedures. My wife had procedures that required multiple sittings and after every session their bills changed. They will not be upfront about billing and only let you know about additional costs only after the procedure. Be prepared for crazy charges like showing your germs under microscope. This practice if I can call it that will do anything and everything to rip off your dollars. Staff - Dr. Barron staff starts off as cordial and fun but as soon as you point out discrepancies in billing their behavior to you does a 180. Suddenly your visit is as frosty as the Artics in Winter. We were patients with Simply Dental and we wanted something closer when we moved over to the eastside. Dr. Barron came highly recommended by one of his assistants who also works at Simply Dental for a few days of the week. My error was to rely on this recommendation. Quality of work - Dr. Barron behavior is extremely rude and unprofessional, especially when you question his billing practices. Further he does not do quality work and be ready for higher sensitivity if you are doing any cavity work done by him. After the cavity procedure, my wife continued to have high tooth sensitivity. which was finally resolved by a fix at Simply Dental. Dr. Barron is amazing! I had my implant surgeries with him yesterday and the work he did was excellent and beyond words! I had very little pain after the surgery and completely felt comfortable and had only a tiny bit of swelling on the next day! Dr. Barron is "the best of the best" doctor at dental implant placement. I had to have a tooth pulled, and the Dr yelled at me for sitting up during the procedure, due to a high gag reflex and told me that if ever again, I was being drugged. Then I took my father in law, 88 years old Parkinson's patient to him, and he rolled his eyes and spoke to me rather than my FiL, with an attitude that he was wasting his time. Yet, I still went for my cleaning yesterday. Dr Barren took over from the very nice dentist I was connecting with, blazed out the multiple things that need to be done in my mouth, without even a hello. When I told him I didn't have $25k or $15k to fix what he had just flooded me with, he sarcastically said, "oh, it's just your mouth'. Dr BARRON was RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL - DO NOT GO TO BRILLIANT SMILES! I brought my 94 year old father in as a new patient because he had lost a tooth. I was concerned about infection and just needed a dentist to look in his mouth and suggest a plan. After a 30 minute wait, Dr Barron entered the room, did not acknowledge me or my father, looked at xrays we had transferred from another office and yelled - his mouth is full of decay, what do you want me to do. I asked him politely to say hello and introduce himself to my father and he refused, saying he had no time for that. He also yelled, "you come to my office, you get xrays". Again, I asked him to say hello and tried to explain why we were there - he was not interested in even looking in my dad's mouth. The office staff, hygienists, techs and the associate dentist are all top notch, but this was the worst I have ever been treated by a medical professional. HORRIBLE. Though many dentists may think otherwise, the profession is often viewed as a commodity. Sure, there are instances of outstanding service, but discerning between them is often challenging. Their staff cleans your teeth, corrects any abnormalities (as best they can) and you go home happy. In my view, where they can stand out from one another is via convenience. Many of us work very long hours and heading to the local dental office is often something that is a bit of an inconvenience. Their hours (more often than not) are restricted to a subset of the work week and limited to perhaps 8-4PM, which means getting an appointment is inherently not convenient. Some, in the dental profession, attempt to address this by providing online appointment booking or perhaps extend their hours somehow. Going back to an actual review of Brilliant Smiles, I've been going here for a little more than 2 years now. When I was searching for a provider, my first and foremost search criteria was proximity to work. Second was whether the place had abnormally large numbers of bad reviews. It seemed to fit the bill, as I worked in DT Bellevue...at least initially. A year later, they moved offices over to Bellred road, which is about 3 miles away. As I take public transit to work, this was a bit of an inconvenience. Now instead of simply popping into the office for a quick clean then get back to work, it now nearly doubled the time I would have to dedicate to get there and get back. I normally work about 60-65 hour work weeks, so spending such time on dental work isn't my idea of a great use of resources. Overall the service was on par with what I've seen with other dental providers. Friendly people, competent staff, not raking me over the coals with excessive mystery costs, etc. Recently, I realized that it had been a while since my last cleaning, so I booked through their convenient online appointment tool (noting that I was an existing client via their form), since I rarely have much more than a few minutes between meetings throughout the day to make a call. They were packed for the following two weeks, but I figured that a cleaning wasn't a big priority, so no problem. They then confirmed via text that I would be there, which I promptly let them know that I was going to be there. The day of the appointment, however, I showed up (after my trek on foot to their office) and they asked if I was a new patient. Naturally, this caused me a bit of concern as I'd been going there for years. They then scrambled and then noted that since I booked online, they couldn't resolve my appointment request with my patient account. In summary, they didn't have anyone on hand to provide my cleaning and asked if I could hang out for 45 minutes so someone could arrive and see me. As I didn't want to dedicate a sizable part of my day to getting a dental cleaning, I declined. As a dedicated client for these years, this urked me. Who puts an appointment system in place without it somehow connecting with whatever system they have with patient information? What was the point in my noting in their form that I was not a new patient? Well, going back to my initial point, convenience is key in this profession. Make it more challenging for the client to get their dental work done and they'll look elsewhere. In considering the longer journey to get to their office as well as their systems not talking with one another (and the time I wasted getting there), for me it's not something I'd want to bother with in the future. In summary: while the staff seems fine and the office is nice, it became too much of a hassle to get in and get my dental work done. With a counter intuitive online appointment system (which really seems to do nothing), it informs me that they have a bit of work to do. read more

I shy away from most forms of social media so I was apprehensive writing this review. After being strongly encouraged by my present dentist, an oral surgeon, and my primary care physician I will share my experiences with Dr. Barron. I was a patient of Dr. Barron's several years ago. My dentist had retired and he took over the practice. After viewing my x-rays he recommended several root canals which, over time, I had him do. I did not have any dental insurance at the time and they gave a discount for cash which was a plus although the work he did was very expensive compared with comparable work at the time. I stopped going to Dr. Barron after he came in to fit a crown, did not greet me and proceeded to berate his assistant that had prepared me for the procedure. I think he was used to his patients being sedated (he had encouraged sedation for my root canals which I did not feel necessary and the additional cost was very high). In all fairness I must say that the staff at the time was great, professional and friendly and I was very comfortable with them. However, there was a rooster In the hen house vibe. Fast forward to the present and the reason I'm writing this. It was discovered that a root canal Dr. Barron had performed left one root only partially filled. My x-rays also show a piece of metal lodged in my upper jaw adjacent to this root. It appears that the instrument/drill broke off and the root was abandoned. Although I assume his instruments are checked it was never mentioned to me at the time nor when I returned to get the permanent crown. That crown failed after a couple of years and was replaced, which is when I found out about the condition of my root and jaw. The last straw occurred last month when another of Dr. Barron's root canal/crowns failed and had to be replaced. It has been maybe four years since I was last a patient at this practice. I have another crown that was done by Dr. Barron's predecessor that is well over 25 years old so this failure is not the patient's doing. I was advised that to remove the piece of broken instrument lodged in my jaw and complete filling the root the oral surgeon would need to cut into my upper jaw bone to access everything. This will require full anesthetic, cutting the jaw bone, filling the root, removing the metal piece and closing up the area with a bone graft. I was quoted well over $7,000 assuming everything goes well. Or I could ignore this entirely and hope that I don't develop an infection. Considering what I paid Dr. Barron for his work, the amount I paid my present dentist for the replacement crowns and what I am likely to pay the oral surgeon to correct everything, these two teeth will end up costing me well over $14,000. Everyone makes mistakes and has a bad day or week or a few years. I would not be writing this if I had been told the drill broke off and a piece was lodged in my jaw, if he had told me he did not compete the root canal and if he had offered to correct the situation. I have difficulty believing that he was not aware of what happened. I truly wish I didn't need to share this. read more

The other reviews about billing practices are accurate - it's shady. The bills they asked me to pay is more than the insurance claims. They were not upfront about this. Dr Barron also tried to sell me an expensive procedure that isn't covered by insurance at all. I got opinions at other dental offices and they disagreed about the necessity of the procedure. However, I can understand that different dentists have different principles, and Dr Barron is just trying to make his office some money. The staff is great though. They are all very friendly and do their best. I did feel bad for them when I witnessed the way Dr Barron interacted condescendingly with them. Overall, if you have to do business here, I suggest: 1. I hate going to the dentist. The mere image of a dental chair or sound of a drill causes an immediate Pavlovian anxiety response. But it's a necessary torture as I fully intend to keep my teeth well into my elderly years. So I make my way to that dreaded chair every 6 months where I face the wrath of the sour patch kids. And the licorice. And the salted caramel-filled chocolates. Mmmmmmm. Sugar addiction is real folks. It can be difficult to find a dental office that understands and is sympathetic to patient dental fears. I've had good dental offices, those that are just okay, and those that could inspire a horror movie. So when I find a great one, I'll travel distances to stick with them if need be. Brilliant Smiles is that dental office for me. Every staff member is uber friendly and caring. During my bi-annual checkup, they found old fillings that needed to be re-done and a new cavity as well. Gulp. I scheduled appointments to deal with the consequences and my anxiety built until the time came. On drill day, I walked in and immediately started asking questions and relaying information about how to handle me. The hygienist who was to start the process (Katie) was incredibly kind and reassuring. She gave me a fuzzy blanket and fitted the mask on my nose for nitrous oxide while I picked a Pandora station and plugged in my headphones. I was given the option of a valium-type medicine but that requires someone else to drive you home afterward, which I didn't have. It's good to know that this option exists and I may take them up on it another time. Anyway, back to the procedure. Katie numbed my gums and readied me for the novocaine injections. By talking me through it and taking her time, pain was avoided. This is a mark of a great dental hygienist. She and Dr. Barron continued to speak gently with me and recognized when my anxiety required a break. I am not a good dental patient but they were so kind, considerate, and patient that it made the process less scary. I was first introduced to Dr. Barron and his team about a year ago. Unfortunately, I have had to visit him on several occasions with myself and my family. My first experience involved a broken tooth I had that wasn't painful, but very very uncomfortable. Dr. Barron got me in immediately. He was able to accommodate my schedule and had a very friendly front desk and assistant who helped ease my fears. He was able to fix my tooth with zero hassle and I felt the craftsmanship and professionalism was outstanding. My appointments were on time and I never felt rushed. Dr. Barron and his team always made my comfort a priority. My second experience was with my teenage son. Unfortunately, he needed a root canal that proved to be most complicated (God graced him with an extra canal and super long roots). We were pressed for time as we were dealing with travel schedules, insurance obstacles and orthodontic appointments. Our appointment was accommodated right away. Dr. Barron impressed me with his level of expertise and attention to detail He stayed especially long and managed to complete the procedure without breaking a sweat. My son who was very nervous, told me after his appointment that he experienced ZERO pain. Dr. Barron and their team relieved me of major pain from an infection under an old crown. My usual dentist that originally worked on my crown was closed on Mondays and I was flying out of town on Tuesday. Desperate and in excruciating pain, I reached out to Brilliant Smiles. They seemed compassionate and got me in earlier. It took several hours, but I was flexible since they basically squeezed me in. Dr. Barron is personable and has good bedside manners. I appreciate that he took time to explain the situation, laid out the options, and explained risks associated with each option so I could make an informed decision. They ended up having to do a root canal and new crown. The Dental Assistant Kate is my favorite DA out of all I've seen. She's intelligent, very articulate when explaining how something works, and fun to talk to. At my first appointment, I was only planning to come here to relieve my pain long enough for me to go see my usual Dentist of 15 years. There I was... munching on a salad at California Pizza Kitchen and "crunch"... my 20 year old bridge fell out of place. I almost swallowed it. The next day I called around and got in to see Dr. Brian Barron of Brilliant Smiles in Bellevue. Brian was excellent in every way. He explained the old bridge was done. I needed a new one. I also needed a root canal on one of the supporting teeth. Ugh. Over the years I've had too many awful dental procedures. Brian understood. He suggested I take halcyon tablet before the procedure and something via an IV during the procedure. I don't remember much from the procedure, which is a VERY VERY good thing. I didn't hurt the next day, which was delightfully surprising. The temporary bridge fit well. After a couple of weeks, the new bridge was snapped in. It fit fine, but needed a little bit of filing to make it work with my bite. I'm glad I met Brian and I'm thankful he did such a great job. I hope I don't see him for another 20 years, but if I need more dental work, Brian is on my speed dial. read more

Worst Dentist Ever. First was the root canal. They tried three times but it still doesn't match, and it still hurts. Then came the fillings. Very painful for about 6 months. Later they admitted that they had used the wrong compound. It's like an assembly line. Most all work is done by dental assistants, you see the actual dentist for about 30 seconds. Adding insult to injury, they refused to send records over to another (excellent) dentist without written authorization. Other dentists don't require this, so wtf?? Thank you Dr. Barron for changing my life and giving me my smile back. Over the years, due to excessive grinding my teeth were shortened and because of drinking coffee and wine had a yellow tint and were discolored. I hated my smile and made every effort to hide it. I consulted with a few top ranked cosmetic dentists over the years but was extremely nervous to do anything because while my teeth weren't great, they were better than some of the bad veneer jobs I had seen. My first contact with this office was on a weekend, when I had broken a tooth. I had not been to a dentist in probably close to a decade. I was calling around hoping for an emergency number, and got connected to the emergency contact for this office. She was helpful, cheerful and gave me some good advice (since I'd never broken a tooth before). They squeezed me in the next week, and gave me a temporary filling/crown at the same time. (I was working two jobs and had limited time and so they rolled the two appointments that are normally required together). I very much appreciated that. I then scheduled a deep cleaning and the rest of the crown work for when one of my jobs ended. They had me come in and were doing one side of my mouth for a cleaning (so my whole mouth wouldn't be numb). They took an extensive x ray series, and when the dentist looked at the xrays and examined my teeth, he discovered some small cavities (some under the almost-50 year old fillings I have). He then told me that since the temporary filling/crown was working well, that I should concentrate on the fillings (which are largely covered by insurance) instead of worrying about the crown right this second. Having had some rather distressing encounters with dentists when I was young I usually avoid going to the dentist at all costs. Had I not broken a tooth, I wouldn't have come even now. However... I have gotten really great, gentle care so far. A dentist who is willing to wait on the expensive repair so that I can get the smaller repairs made. (Some dentists might have told me I needed crowns for all those teeth too). Even more impressive (to me) is that they have provided prompt, accurate estimates of my costs (based on my insurance). I was referred to Dr.Barron through my boyfriend and his family. I could not say enough great things about him. I got all four of my wisdom teeth removed, and he was very descriptive and walked me through the whole process step by step. Me being the huge baby as I am, I was terrified but he was so very helpful not to mention the amazing staff he had on hand to help with whatever I needed to be comfortable. After my removal I had no swelling the next day, and never had any during the healing process; barely any pain. I was amazed, and very thankful because that was what I was most scared of. I have no real complaints about the staff, nor the treatments (a consultation for wisdom teeth extraction), but the billing practices are unacceptable in my view. They do not, and will not bill insurance on many expenses because they consider the reimbursement too low. While this is their choice as a business, this was not made clear to me in any way before the treatment. Is it claimable post-treatment? Maybe, I'm attempting to do so now for that charge (a CT scan, $350). But there is no reason not to frontload this information, especially since this is not the established norm nowadays. The treatment plan I received was the same - they would not bill the sedation to either of my insurance providers, saying that the reimbursement amount was insufficient, and I was not about to chance a $1500 personal liability on the possibility that my insurance providers would decide not to cover. I was also told that several of the listed complications to my procedure were also not covered by insurance. I ended up having the extraction done elsewhere with a personal liability of $35, whereas my projected personal cost based on their treatment plan was $3500. Fast forward a month - I received my explanation of benefits as well as a bill from them simultaneously in the mail for the consultation. The EOB clearly lists a insurance network discount, but the bill they send me does not account for this and instead charges me for the full amount. I intend to figure this out with them, but the omission is not reassuring. The combination of high price (exceeds allowed amounts by my primary insurance provider substantially), insurance-avoiding, and billing errors mean I cannot in good faith recommend this place to anyone else. read more

Dr Barron's office called my adult daughter (still on my insurance) and told her to come in and use her remaining annual benefits. When she went in, they said something about four fillings, then without permission or explanation of procedure or costs, they put sealants on 7 teeth and sent us a bill for $500. According to Delta Dental, sealants are only needed and paid for children up to age 14. My daughter was not having any tooth pain before this, now she is having pain. I guess they screwed up her bite? (We'll be reporting this to BBB.) Back when I went to Dr Barron, the hygienist took xrays, pointed to a spot, and said that I probably needed a root canal. Dr Barron comes in, glances in my mouth and at the xrays, and pronounces that all is well. The hygienist had to point out the spot on the xray to him, sure enough, I needed a root canal. Front desk is useless and can't answer the most basic questions. She tells me a hygienist will call me back, that was three weeks ago, still waiting for the call.... read more
