Went to Vaner for a balayage and cut. I was charged $150 over the quoted amount without any explanation. The cut was fine, but after a 3 hour session I could barely see the color in my hair (aside from a streak at my bangs). Went somewhere else the next day to get it re-done & am much happier. I walked into V Salon one day during work, and started to look around and came across Vaner's station. I said hello right away and immediately felt that he was a genuine and sweet person and a stylist willing to take the time to make great recommendations that will bring my skin tone out and what hair colors make me look good. The first service I got from him was a Keratin treatment that he suggested I get before a color service since my hair needed a deep repair. I was really pleased with the results, and definitely will go back for a 2nd treatment. He has lots of experience so I trust his work , and he can work well with time, yet it's quality. Being that I do hair clients on the side, I also need someone who can work on my hair too! A hairdresser also needs a hairdresser!! So I definitely relate to his advice and what he knows about hair. I recently went back to get balayage highlights with a root touch up, and he got my outgrowth to a really pretty ash medium brown with soft highlights all over without it breaking or causing more damage to it. It's nice that I can come after work and get my hair done by someone like Vaner, in a few weeks I'd love to go back for more face framing highlights and hair extensions! Vaner does superb work. I have difficult-to-manage wavy hair, and when I first came to see him I had the delightful and rare experience of showing him a photograph and ending up with exactly the cut and color I wanted, done in a way that works with my annoying waves, so I don't have to do a lot of styling work in the mornings. I have gone back to him three times now and each time the cut and color has been excellent. I also really appreciate that it is fairly easy to get an appointment with him, and he is often done highlights and a cut in about an hour, so I can fit my appointments in during my workday. Highly recommend. I wasn't sure what to select for price range. I pay $185 for a cut and full highlights, which seems pretty good, particularly given that he is located right in the financial district. read more

This guy is amazing! I love getting extensions done all the time. Long and more hair never too bad ;) and I was looking for spot to get it done in San Francisco! which I usually get them done in my country. I finally, found him so luckily! He has great hospitality, nice, and he does good job on your hair!! My extensions stayed on my hair a little bit longer then it supposed to be! they were tanged a little bit. He had patient to brush them all and put the new ones back on my hair. I do highly recommend him if you need extensions go for him. I am definitely going back there. I've been to Vaner twice now for just a standard haircut and he has been truly amazing. I'm not always great at describing what I want but he has a very good intuition as to what shape best suits a particular face and hair type. I don't like to have to blow dry my hair much at all on a daily basis, which I mentioned to him, so I was especially pleased to find that the shape and layering he gave me worked very well with my naturally wavy/curly hair, even as it grew out over the next 6 months. I always leave the salon extremely happy with his work and won't go anywhere else. Thanks again Vaner! P.S. For years I've tried to find someone who understands curly hair and finally, I have found Vaner!! It was love at first cut. I shared what I wanted and to tell you the truth, I wasn't sure what I wanted, but Vaner made a few suggestions that sounded interesting. I loved the color and loved how my hair looked and felt after he blow dried it. Having earned my trust, I came back to try a Brazilian blow out as I have very curly hair. I straiten it out everyday and if I don't, I have to put on a lot of product to tame it. Well no more!! I love the result. I had done it before with a different person and was very disappointed. I had a great haircut with Vaner and later went back for a coloring. However, I would not return again for a color. If you are going for a natural look, this is not the place to go. He is into highlights and extreme contrast. He put in extremely dark low lights and very light highlights. I left very unsatisfied and still had to pay full price ($160). He offered to fix it within a week, however I was too embarrassed to leave my house with the color he put so I went to a different salon to have it fixed the very next day. I am not one to write on Yelp often but I was very upset with the result and having to pay almost $200 for a complete mistake!
