As someone with long hair who is very picky about my hair length, I am very happy with the haircut I received at Geomantic Salon. I booked a dry cut appointment because I just needed to trim my hair that had grown out during the pandemic. My hairstylist was Zeon, who was very detailed with his work and made sure that he was giving me the hairstyle I wanted. I also appreciated that he recommended shampoos and conditioners to maintain moisture in my hair, as we did notice it was on the dryer side. I was so looking forward to my appointment this afternoon with Ryan for a blowout, that I made sure I arrived 10 minutes early. While he did acknowledge me when I walked in, it was not until 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time that I took it upon myself to check in with Ryan to see if he was aware that was he was running significantly behind schedule, as he was still doing another client's hair and had not come over to check in with me. After checking in to confirm with him that my appointment was supposed to begin 20 minutes ago, Ryan assured me that he would be "almost done". I explained to him that I had work later today and considering the fact that my hair is very long and has taken longer than 40 minutes to do in the past, that I was concerned he would not finish in time for me to make it to work. Rather than apologizing, or offering some type of concession, Ryan suggested I rebook with him for a different day. If deciding whether or not to get your hair done with Ryan, ask yourself this: Do you want to spend 75$ plus gratuity for that "EXCELLENT" service to get your hair done with an unapologetic, rude man who doesn't have the decency to apologize for running behind schedule, let alone acknowledge the fact that he is doing so? Don't ruin your day like I did and go elsewhere. And Ryan-- maybe reconsider your approach to wooing new clients in the future. read more

I had a fantastic experience at Geomantic Salon with Josh Barry. Josh started cutting my hair over a year ago at a barber shop. I had an amazing hairstylist but I just wanted the sides of my hair re-shaved so I went to a barber close to my house. He did a great job, and suggested a couple of changes. There was something about him that made me trust him - I felt he really knew what he was doing. After that first cut I continued seeing him, and over time my hair has evolved into super fun and edgy . No matter what he suggests, it always looks great. My hair is a big deal, and no one else touches it ;) Yesterday I went to Geomantic for the first time. I had no doubt in my mind I would follow him to Richmond if necessary. The salon is super cool and welcoming. He served me some wine and asked me? Can we change your color? Color? Well, that was a whole new level for me ... I looked at him and said ... "you know I trust you, do whatever you want". I expected to be in the salon for hours, but it was simple, quick and the result was just incredible. Now is shorter and looks warmer, and I love it. ~ FANATIC ABOUT GEMOMANTIC ~ Ryan is a hair whisperer. I've gone to him for both cuts and color. I know how difficult it can be to find the right hair people. Go to Geomantic. THEY CAN BE YOUR PEOPLE. My hair gets kind of reddish in the sunny summertime and I don't love it so Ryan and Zeon masterminded a formula to tone that down. I've been so happy here. Ryan did a great job with my bangs too and I finally let him give me a proper haircut (versus a trim). WHY OH WHY DID I NOT DO THIS SOONER. I showed him a mood board of some lobs, shags and mid-length texture-y styles and he had a game plan in seconds. Ryan is observant and an excellent listener. He gets to know you, doesn't push you into anything and always has your best interest at heart. I love the way people who work there brainstorm together on ideas and formula solves too--solid teamwork and good vibes all around. They also offer wine and beer if you're so inclined. Oh, and the music is on point. When I got to Geomantic a few different stylists and colorists had touched my head in a short amount of time. My hair had been stripped and still had a subtle (but foul, eww) aroma from the chemicals and product a nearby salon used to do it. Not cool. Ryan and Zeon were there for me after this traumatic time. You can laugh. It's very first-world, I know, but some of you will totally understand. I am so glad I found this place. I'm sure everyone else who works there is wonderful too, but Ryan was my stylist/colorist and Zeon, the owner, would usually being doing hair too when I was there. They are friendly, fun to be around and so talented. I always see awesome cuts and color on their other clients too! And I think the clientele is pretty diverse gender-wise, so if you're a she, he, ze, they, etc. know Geomantic has got you covered--they're good at all sorts of styles. This is an amazing place to get a hair cut. This was my first time at Geomantic Salon and I wanted a different look. I just got an amazing haircut and dye at Geomantic. Josh has been cutting my hair for ten years now and I'm happy he is at this new salon. The space has a nice, comfortable, and intimate feel to it. Josh is great at taking my suggestions while using his own creativity to transform my look. He used Aveda hair color which was wonderful as they had many different colors to choose from. My hair tends to get frizzy so after the blow dry he used brilliant emollient finishing gloss and aveda pureformance pomade. They have great quality hair products. I followed Ryan here and I am so glad I did! I did my first cut and color three years ago with him at another salon, and still to this day I cannot say enough good things about him. He's professional, personable, and most importantly, he listens to what you want done to your hair!! He's also a perfectionist and is extremely detailed so he will make sure to capture everything you want. Not only do I get compliments immediately from my friends but I've been approached by other stylists who comment on how perfect his color application is. A few months ago I thought I could go cheap and get what was supposed to be a trim from a place around the block from my apartment and ended up with the worst haircut of my life. I had to wait over 7 months just for it to be at a length to be able to cut it again! I reached out to Ryan and he told me he was now working at Geomantic Salon and we booked an appointment for a cut and color. As I expected, he worked his magic -- trimmed up the chunky layers from my last cut and did a great bayalage. I'm someone who usually goes 4-6 months without doing anything in between, but I already booked my next appointment with him for next month. All the compliments I receive post-cut are addicting!
