Excellent food and service. We are very fortunate to have such a superb restaurant in our small town.

In town for a bike ride-Issaqueenas Last Ride. Stopped in on Saturday night, fairly crowded but quickly seated. Service was speedy and attentive. Food was was very good. We had the surf and turf and Mediterranean tofu. Both were fantastic. I also tried the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel stout-which was very good as well. Highly recommend stopping in!!! read more

Last night we celebrated our anniversary at Vangeli's. It was our first visit since they remodeled/reopened. WOW - what a treasure! Every detail has been thought of. Our server, Evan was very chatty and professional. We both had the She Crab soup in lieu of a garden salad - it just may have been the BEST I've ever had. Both of us ordered steaks - one strip steak and one filet - both prepared Pittsburgh style. We lived for several years IN Pittsburgh and did not know the history of how the "style" even came to be - that tidbit of info came to us via our server!! Who knew spinach and asparagus, which I'm not a huge fan of, could be cooked so perfectly. And if they offer roasted potatoes - do give them a try - tender quarters of red potato with just a hint of maple - yum yum yum. I was recently in the area visiting friends and they brought me to Vangeli's for dinner. We had a great experience. Enjoyed the heirloom tomato salad, black and blue chicken and bone-in pork chop. Everything was very well prepared. Our server, Vanessa, was excellent. The atmosphere is refined. Sitting in the restaurant, one might feel like they are in a major city. Went to Vangelli's tonight as my husband made reservations for Tuesdays date night especially after seeing on the online menu that they had Chilean Sea Bass as well as their Maple Bourbon glazed Pork Chop which are two of my favorite. when we were seated & got the menu, we saw that only one item was on the online menu as well as the in restaurant menu otherwise everything else was different. After talking to the manager, she wasn't even aware of the online menu and didn't even offer a solution . she just stated she didn't know about the online menu. At this point we decided to leave and she asked for our names & said that the next time we came in she would give us a certificate, for real what kind of manager is that....needless to say we went to Pixie & Bills for dinner and we had an amazing time as well as an awesome meal. Needless to say we were both very disappointed in Vangelli's and their customer service and we will most likely never go back. If your trying to have a top notch restaurant then you need to have top notch customer service. Can't even describe my disappointment in this evening. read more

OMG.....fell in love with this place, knew about the Chef that started this restaurant and it took us a while to get there, but.....we celebrated my husbands 60th there and everything was amazing from the service to the food and the AWESOME selection of liquors especially the really hard to find ones and I got to treat him with a bourbon he has been trying to find and taste for a long time now. We decided to check this restaurant out after reading the reviews. Spot on. Highly recommend this restaurant. A bit pricey but the quality of the food and drink is worth it. The food is delicious and the small restaurant atmosphere is inviting. Housed in one of the old restored brick buildings in a small area with shops and restaurants. The Place Vangelis Bistro is a great little restaurant on Ram Cat Alley in Seneca, South Carolina. This is a small storefront in the historic part of town but is already planning on expanding their restaurant to the space next door. There is ample off-street parking in the back and on-street parking out front of the restaurant. This is a very intimate setting with an attentive staff. The Menu Vangelis has a small but well executed menu. On previous visits we had two entrees from the lunch menu. Grilled Filet Panini and Smoked Gouda Chicken Club. Both were excellent and came with a drink and a side dish. This visit we ordered a fillet, scallops, topped with bacon blue cheese sauce and crispy fried onion strips served with creamy onion risotto and asparagus. In a word it was magnifico!! This is a prime time offering done excellently. The Value/Service/Experience The price is fair for the value presented. The chef has come out to check our acceptance of his meal which is always special. If your in Seneca don't miss this class act. read more

Such a quaint little restaurant! You could tell every part of the meal was thoughtfully planned. The lamb is my absolute favorite, the appetizer mushrooms where to die for and my husband is obsessed with the lemon cake. First time I went was great. Second time back sat at the table for 34 mins without any service after going up to the host after 15 mins just to make sure our table was assigned a server. Still no water or greeted by anyone at the table. Unfortunately after over 30 mins, just got up and left because we were starving and frustrated. read more

After 6 awesome visits to Vangeli's tonight was a different story. We had a 6:30 reservation and the first thing out of the waitress's mouth was the things they were out of. This week's menu selections were poor at best and worse yet the food was similar. The herb crusted pork loin was merely a over fried, heavily breaded dry pork loin. The waitress was obviously stressed as the service was sparse, rushed and not attentive - bordered on rude. Food took an extended time to serve and was anything but fresh and delicious. The best thing served was the child's Mac & Cheese. Dessert was good. It was our daughter's birthday but in general a big disappointment. read more

Drove down from Highlands to find out what the fuss is all about with this new restaurant in Seneca. Okay, the verdict is that this is a real foodie delightful place, well worth the trip. It's just a small storefront in the historic part of town. Plenty of on-street parking. The inside is very intimate with one wall an old exposed brick. We were immediately welcomed by a server, who promptly seated us for lunch. A good sign - the chef was coming around to each table to chat with diners. A young fellow, he seemed excited about that day's menu. I gather he changes ingredients up frequently to find the right mix of flavors. I had the grilled chicken salad. It was very, very good. Fresh mixed greens, succulent grilled chicken strips, pieces of fresh, sweet peaches, sliced English cucumbers, shaved onion and home made croutons all served with a delicious chipotle honey vinaigrette. Sophia had a steak panini with a side pasta salad that had chicken in it. She loved it. She only planned to eat half of it but ended up clearing her plate. Oh, the iced tea is good also and was a reasonable $1.75. If you live in or near Seneca, or if you plan to visit the area, this is a must stop place to eat lunch or dinner. We won't be going back! Excellent dinner. This is the kind of restaurant fare needed in our area! I wouldn't have minded the $130 plus dinner for two, but the ambiance was worse than a fast food chain having a children's function. Unfortunately a large party of eight was totally oblivious to other patrons having dinner. Loud conversation and laughing to the point I could not hear my dinner partner speak. We ate without conversation and hoping for some quiet conversation from the rear for over an hour! To our dismay management or wait staff said nothing to the loud party. When they finally left we heard music playing. What a surprise--who knew? While the food was beyond our expectations, we will not be returning! The ten table restaurant is too close for comfort and I want to enjoy an excellent meal completely and not mind paying the price. read more

We enjoyed everything at this gem of a restaurant. My prime ribeye with lobster was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. We were a party of four and everyone had something different. Always a nice meal here. Our server Hali was very attentive and helpful. We skipped apps, and our salads were fresh and tasty. My 7oz filet was cooked perfectly (blue, the way I like it, and few restaurants get it right). The risotto was creamy and the broccoli rabe was nicely seasoned and not over cooked. The Cab Franc paired perfectly with my entree. My partner got the swordfish that was also perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The chips and guacamole really didn't add anything to the dish, however, but it was fine. The dry Riesling was a nice pairing with this. We were seated not too far from the bar area. We forgot about Jazz on the Ally Thursday nights so it was packed and the bar area started to become very loud. Unfortunately there are quite a few privileged people in this area that feel being publicly drunk and obnoxiously loud is acceptable, even in a nicer restaurant. This isn't the restaurants' fault but it certainly impacts the quality of the atmosphere. Even Hali offered us a free dessert to make up for the interruption it caused, but we paid for our desserts anyway. We did suggest that there be automatic sliding doors fitted so that the noise could be contained in the bar area leaving the diners to enjoy their meals. Our desserts were also delightful. We had the banana brûlée and strawberry brûlée. Overall it was a very nice meal with very good service (which is hard to come by in this area). read more
