My husband likes Dr. Paul Chiu. He also likes Eric Chung, the Physician Assistant, who is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. In fact, he refers people to this office whenever he knows that a physical therapist or chiropractor doesn't resolve an issue someone has. He likes that the doctor doesn't try to just prescribe pain medications. Instead, he tries to find a way to minimize the pain. I happen to like that my husband was offered a prp injection(s) instead of a corticosteroid shot. I wish that I was given that option by a different doctor when I found out that I had a torn meniscus. read more

I wouldn't recommend anyone to this PRP injection. I had the procedure done 1 week ago and I'm still having cramps and I barely have any muscle from my waist down. The day I had the injection I felt numbness in my legs when I woke up from the medication, and when I was sent home I couldn't control my legs and my legs went into shock and I had no blood circulation and now I'm literally asking for help to move around. I didn't particularly want a Doctor Who was so far away from where I lived, but after one visit, I was so impressed with him and his staff that he became my regular doctor. Working with him has made my life so much better. I can move more, I can swim, And I can do a lot more of the things that I need to do. I've also lost a lot of weight. He absolutely knows what he's doing He works with Eric. He is fantastic. He is kind and thoughtful and an all-around great guy. ERIC CHUNG PA-C is the worst pain management PA I've seen... from the get go, the start of our relationship, he dismissed my pain. He pretty much advised me of faking my pain when u told him where all my pain were... when he finally did decide to get an MRI, The MRI showed that the locations i had been complaining of pain at, were in fact injured amc sprained... when i was informed of Eric by this, he proceeded to tell me that my pain were psychosomatic, which pretty much he is telling me that my pain is all in my head. He said this to me several times during the session even though there was valid evidence of injuries. Even when he saw that there were reports of sprains and injuries, he proceeded to still say my pain is psychosomatic. I don't know what kind of pain management PA he is... but he is terrible at helping alleviate my pain... He does not know me yet he decides on placing false accusations of my faking my injuries... even though they were valid.... i am still in a lot of pain because of his lack of help... he is very egotistical and thinks he knows everything. And if he can't help alleviate the pain, he seems to just tells the patient it's all in their head so he can feel comforted that he didn't do an adequate job at helping alleviate the pain... read more

They told me they will forward my message to the office with no response. Very strange a medical office would have a third party company pick up their calls instead of the employees working at the doctors office. Honestly I don't understand how these reviews are so negative. I have been going to this office for 11 years now & he is the kindest guy, thorough with education, sends u for physical therapy if he thinks u will benefit MOST IMPORTANTLY he does not push u to get injections, if ur well controlled with the meds he prescribes. That being said he also isn't a pill mill, he examines you, repeats MRI yearly, or if something changes with the pain. HE is attentive & intuitive A+ from me. Full disclosure I'm in the medical field & can sniff a bad doctor from the parking lot...lol Now the REAL PROBLEM is the office staff as is frequently the case. For several years the turn around was crazy (which makes me feel like he probably isn't paying the best) however the current staff have been around for several years (3-4 I would guess) They are majority are very kind with the exception of 1 older female front office. I haven't waited more than 15mins to be taken to a room& no longer than 15 in that room to see him or Eric, majority of the time less than that. AS for the calls I have always gotten a call back the next day when I leave a message or even same day if I leave the message early in the morning. I would give 0 star if allowed. This doctor is a scum bag. My mom went visited there a few times, no improvement on her pain is the least problem. Her insurance changed and she brought the new insurance card for the last visit. The front desk checked it out and said ok, and let her in. 1 month later we got a call from this place, said that our new insurance is not covering the last visit and ask my mom for $300 for the last visit. 1. The front desk checked and said the insurance was ok. 2. They never inform my mom that how much the visit is. We explained the situation and yet, we receive a bill of $300 from a collection agency, asking us to pay this fxxking doctor. Seriously? AVOID this location at all cost. From my parents experience, it was a terrible experience. 0 stars if I could. I've personally called asking for the receptionist to email me all the new patient form. My parents doesn't speak much English and could not read in English. The forms were all signed, prepared, and brought to their appointment. The receptionist than asked my parents to sign additional forms. When told that they didn't understand and asked for some type of assistance, the receptionist was rude and slammed the clip board. She rolled her eyes & gave my parents attitude. When asked for all the forms to be returned so they could leave, the receptionist refused. I have been under the care of Dr. Chiu for about a year now. I was involved in a car accident (hit and run) that left me with (pretty near to) constant pain. For my appointments, Dr. Chiu listened attentively to my concerns, and addressed all my questions accurately in a manner to meet my non-medical-savvy brain. It was in a way a simple person like me could comprehend. Finally, his patience to all my annoying questions, as well as showing care to my pain showcased a true human element (which is nice to have in the medical community). I was referred here by my attorney. I was dreading starting a new relationship with a doctor because I don't like waiting in the waiting room or in the examination room. To my surprise, I arrived 20 mins before my first appt, filled out forms and within a few mins, I was called into the examination room. The young lady who assisted me was very friendly and super thorough in getting all of the details of my injury. Once she left, the doctor arrived less than 5 mins later. I'll try and keep to the facts as much as I can, but most of it will echo the same complaints from all the bad reviews. Here are the issues that I've experienced: 1. Phone calls are rarely picked up. Expect to call many times before anyone picks up. 2. If you leave multiple messages, they rarely call back. Personally they've never called me back when I left voicemails. 3. They are hit and miss with submitting authorizations to HMO insurances, especially for Medi-Cal. If they miss it, you're forced to reschedule. Personally, this is probably the most agonizing thing about working with this office. 4. If you call and try to check statuses on insurance authorizations or help remind them, they are quick to pass the buck. What I mean by this is they'll blame someone else or quickly tell you to call your PCP for the update. In many cases, the ones that say this can't confirm whether or not they ever started the paperwork. Accountability is very low. A few good experiences: 1. We've never waited more than 20 minutes beyond the scheduled appointment time. Others on here have experienced otherwise, so I guess we've been fortunate on this one. 2. If I actually spoke to someone and they promised to call back, they usually do. But not always. Here's my opinion on what's probably going on. I suspect that the staff here are not inherently bad or rude...their attitude most likely reflects the owners of the medical practice. They are just like anyone else; they need a job to feed and take care of their family. They're likely being pushed to do a lot more than what they're paid for, which brings me to my next point. Most of the patients are probably on Medi-Cal, so the owners, such as Dr. Paul Chiu, are not incentivized to provide good patient care. Good care usually means longer appointments with patients. Medi-Cal barely pays anything, so it's understandable why this is happening. However, it's NOT an excuse. As a doctor, you swore to an oath that patient care is the upmost priority. You are the smart one with the advanced degree...you need to find a way to make this work and not compromise patient care. There's also an unspoken but known fact about many doctors and IPAs that specialize in the San Gabriel Valley: they're more pocket book focused, and not patient focused. There will be exceptions, but for sure it's not the majority. They'll do everything possible to keep cash and put the patient second. It's painfully obvious. I've had insight through experience and speaking to others that work in this area to know this is fact. The doctors profile the patients' insurance and treat you accordingly. This usually means they keep the visit as short as possible and visibly show irritation if you stop them to ask questions. Again, it's simply not in their best financial interest to spend time with Medi-Cal patients. The bottom line is, if you have PPO insurance that has a reasonable network of pain specialists to choose from, avoid this place at all costs. The aggravation is not worth it. If you have Medi-Cal this becomes a difficult situation. If you want to see another specialist it usually means switching groups. By that it means you may lose your PCP. This whole situation is aggravating on both sides and I want to make it clear I understand that, but at the end of the day, you cannot sacrifice patient care. People are coming to this clinic because they have to, not because they want to. They need help, not unanswered inquiries. read more

After literally a month to 6 weeks of trying I was finally able to see Dr. Chiu last August. I had such a severe problem that I actually just had a 4 level acdf surgery to fix said problem. My surgeon suggested I see Dr. Chiu to provide me some minor relief until we did the surgery (again, I saw Dr. Chiu in August 2015 & I just had my surgery Jan 2016). After our consultation his office was supposed to call me to schedule the nerve blocking shot to get me by until I had surgery. Needless to say I have still not received one single call and both my wife and I called his office for a couple of months trying to schedule the procedure. I actually meant to write this review about how awful Dr. Chiu's office is a long time ago but I completely forgot about him...until I just received his bill from my consultation office visit. Funny how they can contact me for payment, but they didn't contact me to actually do their job. Save yourself the headache and skip Dr. Chiu.
