The atmosphere is nice and quaint. We ordered three dishes: chicken noodle soup (pho-like), yellow curry, and Pad Thai, all with chicken. Unfortunately, the chicken in every dish was extremely dry. I'm not sure what cut they use, but switching to thigh meat would help with tenderness. The Pad Thai was solid, but the long green onions were a bit much. They seem to be there for presentation, but they're not really edible in that form. It would be better to cook them into the dish or add them chopped as a garnish. The side salad also felt unnecessary. The chicken noodle soup broth was bland and underwhelming. I usually stick to Pad Thai and pineapple fried rice here, but decided to try other dishes this time and was disappointed. Also, charging over $5 for shrimp feels excessive. Thai food is usually not my jump-up-and-down favorite cuisine unless it's Khao Mun Gai 'cause I loves me some poached chicken. This spot drew my attention when I was in the Outer Sunset for lunch because it's on the same block as Andytown Coffee and Win's Restaurant (review: https://yelp.to/m9OgMyL8bx). It was empty on a weekday at a little past 1PM, so I didn't have a problem getting a table. The menu was quite robust with a variety of curries, stir-fried noodles, soups, sautéed dishes, and combo plates. My head was spinning, but I settled on two choices. The first was the $12 Green Bean Salad, shredded green beans mixed with cashews, onion, coconut, chili paste, ground chicken, and prawns (Photo 7). The blend of flavors worked well enough, though it was more of an entree than I hoped. My second plate was somewhat more bland, the $17 Pineapple Fried Rice, a curry fried rice with pineapple, egg. tomato, raisins, green onion, cashews, chicken, and prawns (Photo 8). I didn't realize I was getting chicken and prawns twice with my order, so I was getting stuffed from all the protein. Should an impulse for Thai food again in the Sunset, I'd consider Vanida again. Just different dishes. We came here for dinner on Thursday evening around 6pm and got seated right away. Nice quiet location. Easy parking. Good casual and comfortable atmosphere. We got the Pra Ram with beef and Pad See Ew with chicken. They were both okay. The Pra Ram was a bit bland and the meat was a little tough. The Pad See Ew had good flavoring. This place is a sleeper and not to be missed. It is so good! We've come here at least 6 times since first discovering it. You can tell it's a local favorite when you dine here because of how busy the restaurant gets and all the foot traffic for takeout. There's not a bad thing on the menu. Our favorite is the pad Thai. It's the best pad Thai I've had anywhere. I'm not sure how "authentic" it is for those crazy Yelpers, but in terms of taste, presentation and the plentifulness of green onions it's the best in my book. we came on a friday shortly after opening and was seated immediately. interior was clean, sunny, and nicely decorated, with nice photos on the walls. service was okay, server was nice but i felt my requests (to-go box/restroom location) felt like i was inconvencing them. i really liked how unique their lunch combo was, as i've never seen pad thai or satay available at any other restaurant before. salad dressing was refreshing and tart. the yellow curry had the perfect amount of spice (for someone who has a very low spice tolerance). the pad thai had much thinner noodles from what i'm used to, but had such good flavor. the shrimps were large and were an extra $2 ON TOP of the provided tofu. for $17 i think it was an excellent deal, with a good amount of food that left me at a good level of fullness. read more

This spot is so cute and I love the authentic Thai flavors. My favorite go to dishes are the Tom ka, the yellow chicken curry and the fried yams. The fried yams have a thick tempura style batter and are served with the most delicious peanut sauce. I also love the pad Thai and the green curry when I'm feeling spicy. The service is always great and welcoming. This is the best place to get Thai in the sunset! read more

Extremely dissatisfied, if you're looking for something that is approaching mediocre you've found it. I ordered Pad Thai with pork extra spicy to go. I don't often order Pad Thai, as I am more into curry and soups. I was told 5 minutes. My order was prepared quickly enough but I would've waited longer for better food. The Pork was decent but the noodles were soggy with absolutely no char from the wok. And the entire dish seemed to be missing salt, and there was no spice at all. It's like they poured some mayonnaise on top. What a disgrace, unacceptable. And the portion was lame as well, I had to get a slice of pizza next door to be satisfied. read more

I went to Vanida Thai with my long term friends and we saw that this was open until 4pm I think? So we had to go asap. It's a cute shop with a few tables. We had the lunch special meal with a main dish and a side dish and drinks. I chose the red curry with a side app and salad. I had forgotten what my friends ordered but I know we ate the whole meal up with a few laughs. It's a must to go to this mom and pop and try their authentic Thai dishes. read more

Came for a quick last minute lunch. I ordered pad Thai which chicken. Their lunch special isnt a huge selection but everything is always made fresh to order. I ordered the one item pad Thai, came with a salad, pad Thai and rice. The server came to check on me a few times and refilled my water. This place had a nice ambiance. They play classic Thai music and have a lot of decor to make the place feel more inviting. This is a really nice place and if you have never been here, I highly recommend this place. A True Gem in the Outer Sunset! I've been a customer here for years--it's truly the best Thai food I've had in the Outer Sunset, and it's easy to see why they've been around for so long. The food is always delicious, fresh, and arrives hot! I highly recommend the Garlic Pork; the marinade is perfect, and the accompanying sauce is absolutely delish. Stumbled on this Thai restaurant 9 years ago and I'm glad they're still in business. We love their lunch specials at Vanida Thai and they're even available on the weekends. D2 chose the chicken satay and the garlic pork. I had the eggplant with pork and pad thai. Not shown the option for salad or small soup. I had the soup and she had the salad. Very attentive and wildly popular spot for locals. The restaurant itself isn't very big. I honestly should come more often. read more

Green curry was surprisingly spicy even though I selected no spicy from the options, friends who don't really tolerate spice couldn't eat much. Friendly neighborhood Thai place with great food and friendly servers not far from the beach in the Outer Sunset. Relaxed vibe, natural decor with beautiful paintings and photography on the walls. Many may be familiar with their very popular booth at the Sunset Farmers Market, but this is the mothership! Just a cute little place tucked in alongside North Beach Pizza and a new Boba joint next door. You really can't go wrong on the menu here, but I especially enjoyed their rendition of their Pad See Ew (stir fried wide rice noodles in a sweet soy glaze served with Chinese Broccoli, fried egg and your choice of meat ( pork, chicken, or for $5 extra - seafood). Echoing what some other reviewers have said, this place is a hidden gem! We came here for dinner after a nice walk on Great Highway & I'm so glad we gave it a shot! The restaurant is located in the middle of the block & I feel like it could be easy to miss if you didn't look closely. Parking wasn't too bad, we found street parking right across the street by Walgreens. It was a little quiet when we arrived, with only one other table seated when we walked in. But don't be fooled, they were cranking out those takeouts! We ordered the roasted duck curry and the pad Thai with prawns. Both dishes were so delicious! Fair warning, we ordered mild for the roasted duck curry and there was still a bit of a kick (which we didn't mind!) There was a fair amount of duck in the curry. Only thing I wish they'd add would be some potatoes. The pad Thai was also really good, not overly sweet or sour. I definitely would like to try some of their soups, the other curry dishes as well as the other noodle dishes. I'd definitely recommend this spot over some other chain Thai restaurants plus it's always nice to support more local businesses! read more

I came here with my coworkers for a birthday lunch and we love this place! Their lunch special is the best!! Good value for the price :) I got the garlic pork and pad thai which were both delicious but the garlic pork steals the spotlight. If you come here, the garlic pork is a MUST order!!! The lunch special also came with either soup or salad which was a great starter for the actual meal. After hearing we were celebrating a birthday, the Vanida staff provided us with fried banana and ice cream which was super super nice!! I will be coming here more often. read more
