Pho Recipe has quickly become one of my favorite pho spots. The first thing I noticed was how fresh the bean sprouts were -- crisp, clean, and clearly not sitting around all day like at some places. The broth is absolutely amazing: rich, flavorful, and comforting without being overly salty or greasy. You can tell they put real care into it. The meat also tastes fantastical -- tender, flavorful, and generously portioned. Everything in the bowl just works together perfectly. Another nice bonus: they accept cards, which is convenient, but if you bring cash it's actually slightly cheaper. Small perk, but definitely appreciated. Came here after arriving to SF and though my family and I were looking for another nearby establishment that was closed that day, we decided to give this spot a try. A very homey Chinese-Vietnamese inspired pho location. It's not regular pho, as it has lots more sweetness in flavor. It wasn't bad, was looking more for authentic pho. I ordered the Raw Beef Flank Pho. It was pretty meaty, broth was decent, again just was not the flavor I was hoping for. We also got to try their Fried Tofu appetizer, which actually was pretty good. Crispy, yet light in flavor. Our hostess lady was friendly and was pretty good service. Street parking only or you can take the local bus and walk a few blocks to get here. read more

There's so much more than pho here - just take a look at their extensive menu! Looking around are regulars, a family with kids, a person eating alone, a mom with a young child... It took awhile to get our order but it's understandable when only one guy runs the front of the restaurant. We ordered and shared a large beef stew noodle soup and in the recent cold climate, this helped warm us up! The beef was tasty with silver skins that had to be removed, because they're hard to chew. The tendons has a lot of collagen - tasty and great for the joints! One big bowl filled up two of us! I also had a refreshing pina colada slushie. Really basic ambiance, reminding me of eateries in HK, with pictures of their dishes on the walls. Party of 3 on an hour before closing. I had the hot sour catfish soup. It was very hearty packed w/3 large peices of fish, pineapple, tomatoes, a spongy veggie. Had the 3 helpings of the soup w/a single peice of fish & I was filled. The rest went home for 2 more sitting. My dining companions both had the large combo & spring rolls & spicy wings. I came here with a friend to try out. I was craving pho and this place was good from what my friends told me. It's a mom and pop pho place so it's hella authentic. To be honest, I actually like this place more than turtle tower now. It was head to head competition for me when I was younger, but now it's definitely exceeded the bar for pho ga for me. It used to be called Quan Ngon, and I used to come here all the time since it was closer to my house. Service is usually pretty friendly, it can get pretty busy here but I've never had an issue getting a table! I love seeing that they have the same workers as before. Came on a Wednesday evening and got seated right away. Sometimes the tables are shared with other small parties. They start you off with complimentary tea, which was nice. It seemed like a busier night in the kitchen since our food took about 15 minutes to come out. We ordered the chicken pho, beef rib pho, and the Vietnamese rice noodle rolls (which actually came out after the pho). Glad we got the rolls though. The crunch was such a good contrast to the slurpy pho noodles, and I loved adding extra lime juice to them. I also created a dipping sauce with the sriracha and hoisin sauce for the meat. We went with 2 large pho bowls and the app, which ended up being plenty. Probably 3 servings. Definitely worth getting the large size. Just a heads up: they charge for to-go containers and bags. Personally, I enjoyed the chicken pho more. It felt super comforting and homey. The beef came with with 2 huge ribs though. Parking was easy to find on the street and free since it was evening. 12/19/23 I met up with some friends at Pho Recipe since pho tastes way better on a cold winter evening. Pho Recipe is located in Outer Sunset, so somewhat of a trek for me since I live out in the Peninsula. Parking around there wasn't too bad surprisingly because I was able to park across the street. We got there around 6PM and there was no wait. Here's what we got to share: - Papaya salad - Shrimp spring roll We each got our own noodle soups. I specifically got the Five Spice chicken noodle soup. The shrimp rolls were pretty standard with the usual peanut sauce. The papaya salad was refreshing. I got the large noodle soup and finished the entire thing. The chicken was tender and juicy. Pho Recipe is a good spot if you want something more on the casual side. Stumbled upon this place because my kids and I wanted pho and it was just in the neighborhood we happened to be in. To start off, the place is small but not crowded. Homey vibe and authentic with their menu food pictures on the wall, very helpful. On to the food, the chicken pho was very bland, so we had to spruce it up with ALOT of lemons and sriracha sauce. The BBH wasn't spicy at all (in my opinion, my spice tolerance is high) but there were so much minced lemongrass in the soup, every time I slurped, I found myself choking on the spices. Always curious about this place when waiting in line next door for Dim Sum, glad we had a chance to eat lunch here today. This appears to be a popular spot for locals, from the many pictures posted on the walls, they offer a variety of yummy looking authentic (I think) Vietnamese dishes. On a chilly day, nothing beats a piping hot bowl of pho and that's exactly what we had. Hubby ordered the beef rib pho (no.24) and I went for the combo (no. 20). Both of our orders came within minutes, we were happy to see the steam coming out of the giant bowls. There were two pieces of ribs in the large beef rib pho ($16.95) ; lots of beef / beef balls in the large combo pho ($15.50). We liked the generous portions of tasty beef broth served piping hot, the many slices of beef in the combo was very tender and of great quality. Both of the pho came with soft wide rice noodles which met the liking of hubby, I however prefer the thinner/chewier noodles. The beef ribs were over cooked and on the dryer side (perhaps the end of the batch); I also missed having tendon in my combo pho. Yum quick service and delicious food! My family and I especially like coming here for the wide ride noodles and the chicken pho. Something about the thicker noodles makes the bowl all the more soothing and comforting. Not to mention the broth is rich in flavor and comes with a good portion of chicken as well. We decided to try the tomato and crab soup noodles which came with a vermicelli noodle. The broth was more tomatoey than what I am used to but it still was delicious nonetheless. We also ventured into the appetizers and ordered the dry fried chicken wings. They came out piping hot and crispy. They are battered so the crunch factor is definitely there, wouldn't say the flavor is as sweet as San Tung but still a solid wing. Been here many times before it changed ownership and after however, this is the last time. Service was always slow but today was just unacceptable. Sat down only to begin waiting 15+ mins with no service or acknowledgement. Asked several times for the waitress to take our order but she did everything except that. The table behind us arrived well after us yet they received their tea and got their order taken while we only received 1 cup of tea between 2 people. Like, seriously?! We walked out. My favorite place to go for chicken pho!!! Their soup comes out pipping hot and super flavorful. We also always get the Saigon butter tofu. They accept cash + card but you get more of a discount if you pay with cash. Our first time here. We met my sister and brother in law as they live in San Francisco and try different restaurants! They were there a couple weeks ago and insisted we meet them here for lunch! We started with Papaya Salad that didn't have any heat, so it was perfect! Raw beef that was thinly sliced with perfect seasoning! My husband and brother in law had the LARGE Pho with beef! It was HUGE! I had the Special Curry Lamb with rice and it was so tender! My sister had the Special Grilled Beef with rice and that was Super Tender as she gave us a taste! The service was excellent! I heard great things about their chicken soup. I enjoy this place because they have wide noodles which I haven't enjoyed in SF since Turtle Tower. My favorite is the two pieces of pig feet and pork blood. Their chicken pho is a must order too. If you like Bun Bo Hue you have to give this place a try.
