Particular favorites and highly recommended: - duck fried rice (an early favorite and 10/10 every time) - crying tiger salad (a true spicy contender but so satisfying and flavorful) - chicken gra prow grob (perfect a la carte or with rice) - tom yum soup (pure flavor bomb broth!) - mango sticky rice (owner is very picky about getting the right mangos, so definitely give this a try if they have it!) Mixed experience at Thai Cottage, but mostly positive! The Pad Thai was excellent the portion size was great and the flavors were spot on. However, a word of caution on the Papaya Salad: it had absolutely no business being as spicy as it was! I usually enjoy some heat, but this was such a struggle that I unfortunately couldn't even finish it. If you're sensitive to spice, definitely make sure to emphasize "mild." The restaurant is cozy and well-decorated, but service was quite a bit slow for a fairly small restaurant (it took about 45 minutes to receive food even though I only ordered the Pad Thai, which I did enjoy). I also ordered the plum wine - the flavor was well balanced, but I would have preferred the wine be chilled first rather than served with so much ice. Peaceful and cute Thai restaurant in the Sunset District. The food is super authentic and very decent price! 10/10 We got the catfish which was perfectly savory and and the onions were naturally sweet, as well as the perfectly cooked bell peppers. The tom yum soup was tangy, savory, rich and had a kick! The pineapple fried rice was hearty, steamy and tangy+savory. Last, but not least, the Papaya salad was the star of the show. Had the pleasure of trying this place out earlier in the week. The owner is extremely kind and hugs the regulars. The food here is always fresh and it tastes absolutely delicious. There's a good kick to all of the dishes that are billed spicy, and you can tell the vegetables they cook with are freshly prepared. The quality of the seafood and meat is also very good. One thing I noticed the last couple times I tried this place is that there are very few servers, but they do a good job of handling a busy restaurant - I can just tell they're a little overwhelmed. Last time I was here was on a weekday evening and by the time we left the place was packed, understandably. They use real tea candles for the tables and the lighting is a little dim but provides a good and comfortable vibe. Overall very pleasant and we will be back. read more

The parking here is terrible but it's a great place for take out. We got our food to go and ate it on the beach picnic style. The worker was very friendly and gave us extra utensils since we were going straight to the beach. The pad Thai was good with a little kick to it and the duck fried rice was delicious. I had such a wonderful experience at Thai Cottage!! I came here to have dinner with a friend on a Saturday night. When we came the restaurant was empty, but it was hallow-weekend so maybe everyone was off at festivities? But anyways, we enjoyed the emptiness because it felt like a private dining experience lol. The inside is small-ish but very cozy and I loved the wine wall. The waiter was so incredibly kind and bubbly, we didn't catch his name but he was wonderful! I ordered the spicy ginger chicken, which came over rice. It was such a simple dish but so flavorful and delicious! The textures and spices balanced perfectly, would highly recommend. My friend got the pad Thai which was also delicious and the portion was huge! I think 2 people could easily share the pad Thai. I don't know why this place has over 4 stars on Yelp The space is really cramped up, too small and still has around 6 to 8 seating arrangements for around 25 people. Crowded. There was only 1 person around to handle everyone. We reached at around 6pm and they took our order after 30 mins. Thai Red curry and green red curry - did not look tempting at all. The curry is thin and watery, not rich at all as its supposed to be from coconut milk. I have had way better thai curries almost everywhere. Ordered 3 sides of rice. Two first and one later. The one that came later was almost 1.5 times size the the bowls that came earlier. Umm excuse me, whats going on? Thai Iced Tea - totally forgot that we ordered it, so we reminded them again and asked for a to-go as it was already too late. They got it after a while but not to-go And of course it was so watered down that I instantly regretted getting one. Mango cheesecake - this was cherry on the cake! LOL. This is supposed to be ready (i guess) but they took forever to get it to us. It looked pretty but We then realized it was a frozen (store bought one) because it was still frozen and they were probably thawing it. It tasted pathetic, still like an ice-pop! Not worth $10. This is not a impressive Thai restaurant by any means. As a person who has been to Thailand for many times throughout the years. I guess when Thai food landed in the US, it lost its essence to some degrees, when it gets de-centralized, it's getting even less impressive. Pad-See-Ew tastes quite Chinese. Thai soy source is quite different than Chinese one. Fried calamari is so so as well. I guess I will not visit again. read more

I honestly don't know what all the complaints about this place are about. I called the day before and made a reservation for 7 and the man on the phone was super helpful. The food was really good! We had 2 salads both really spicy so though I didn't tolerate it well the rest of my family seemed to enjoy them. The calamari and spring rolls were good. We also had Pad Thai's, 2 different Tofu dishes (I liked the Tofu and broccoli one but they were both excellent), and the duck fried rice (SO good!!) Yes there is only one person cooking and 1 waiter so cut them a little slack, I learned from the waiter the pandemic was hard on them for the ability to hire more people. I will DEFINITELY be back, this is our neighborhood Thai spot, it's great and I will happily support it! :) read more

The lady was very rude. The restaurant was empty when we came. She was initially going to sit us next to the door but we were a bit cold. So we asked if we could sit further in and the lady moved us but made a rude comment. That left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't even remember how the food was. So cute, friendly, and with delicious food! We went here as new residents of the neighborhood and were not disappointed. We did takeout but the interior is charming and chic. The chicken fried rice was good, if very mild. The chicken satay was delicious and a good portion! The papaya salad was my favorite and one of the spicier versions I've had. Last but certainly not least, the man who took our order and greeted us was so incredibly kind and welcoming. Cute place, if you can find parking, suggest that you take uber or lift. Better you have someone drop you off and have Uber or lift pick you up, Date night with the lady. Place was half full, lots of take out and pick up orders. Only thing is that I only see two people, one Working the desk the other waiting tables , cleaning, and taking checks. I was so shocked I immediately and quietly told the waitress that the chicken was raw. She apologized and gave me the bill for the satay. (With this she shouldn't have even charged me for the satay!) I'm very disappointed!!! I waited about 40 minutes for my food and it wasn't even cooked!!! Terrible. I will never go back ={. Damn. Hands down my favorite new Thai restaurant since moving back from Thailand. Living in Thailand for 13 years gave me so much love and appreciation for the culture, food and way of life. The owner was the kindest sweetest host we have ever come across. Small cute and great ambiance. I definitely impressed her with my Thai language skills being a Farang (foreigner) and my love for Chang beer and spicy authentic Thai food. The Food came out perfectly flavored, not watered down like most Thai restaurants catering to westerners. It had a nice kick and so flavorful, the seafood tom Kha soup was amazing as well as the Som Tom salad. Papaya salad is one of the healthiest foods on the planet full of good enzymes. Good Thai food, but service can be pretty slow here. The Larb and Papaya Salad is extremely spicy, so beware. I've enjoyed the Thai Fried Rice and the Garlic Noodles with BBQ Chicken here. Great flavors and done very well. I've also had the Cottage Fried Rice, which, from the description seems to be a better version of the Thai Fried Rice. However, the flavor wasn't as great.
