I'll just list my personal pros and cons Pros: good price point, nice location, the vibe is like a Spanish villa with plenty of trees, the lobby area I find to be classic beautiful, rooms are spacious, free breakfast, has a convenience store in the lobby with gifts, food, and toiletries ($5 minimum on card purchases) Cons: This was a big one for me!!!! The free wifi DOES NOT WORK! I was here for 3 nights and could not use it once to stream movies or anything with the internet. Lots of places around the hotel had the yellow DO NOT ENTER Tape that brought down the beauty of this hotel. The breakfast is free but it's only bagels, coffee, cereal, and room temperature juice/milk. Would I stay here again? Maybe... it would depend on my budget though. read more

Feels: You're not too far away from the busy parts of West Covina and not too far from Cal Poly. It feels pretty isolated, when it's with tourist, you can feel safe. HOTEL EXPERIENCE: - Elevator wasn't workout - Layout is spacious! But setup is just a little off desk to tv - Some lights worked - Cleanable stains weren't clean - Wifi didn't have a pw and it didn't really work for me FOOD: - Their steakhouse is closed... - Breakfast is free but very limited CUSTOMER SERVICE: The servers were attentive and friendly. I requested to change rooms and they accommodated. TL; DR OVERALL: 1.5 Stars. As the review rating states, "Could've Been Better". There's some bare minimum but it didn't meet it. Overnight visit on Friday August 4th Review #54 of 2023 I am unsure where to even start off here. This is in a secluded location off of Holt and Interstate 10 in Covina. Nice and quiet. Place looks amazing in pictures. A friend of mine stayed here years ago and I found it to be upscale. We as a family needed a last minute place to stay and this was one of the better options. Sticker shock upfront as we had to leave a $200 deposit for damages and smoking in a non smoking room. I comprehend that some upscale places will place a hold like this, but what we ended up experiencing this wasn't justified. My wife told me the door was missing between the room and living room. I didn't see it initially until we returned that evening for sleep. (When we returned that night, we saw two "working girls" one in the courtyard and one opening and closing her room curtains multiple times as we walked by.) we get to the room and I see the missing door along with a thin see through curtain. We ended up using a bed sheet to cover the front window to afford us some privacy. Get this... there was a huge caterpillar on our carpet when we walked in that evening. This place is in need of better pest control. One of the perks of staying here is breakfast being included with our stay for two. When we arrived at the spot for breakfast, it was cable locked and what I could see inside was unsanitary conditions for food. We may have dodged a bullet with that one, but false advertisement on the breakfast hours as it was done roughly thirty minutes prior to what the posted hours were. There are a lot more things to note and pictures that I could not post due to the limits. Last but not least, went to take a shower that morning and the handle fell off. While it looks nice in pictures, you don't receive the experience you are portrayed into getting. As a family we might stay here again in the future as a last resort vs a budget friendly spot. After a horrible experience with another hotel, we decided to try this hotel. I wish I could have that decision back. We were lured in by the beautiful exterior and lobby. It really is an amazing looking hotel. The courtyard is equally impressive. Upon check in we were asked for a $200 deposit for "incidentals" which we figured was a vanilla word for damages. We did not want to use the credit card, so we gave them cash. They did not offer a receipt for it even after being asked for one. That made us uneasy, and a big cash deposit will from now on be a clue to the quality of the hotel for us. We were given a map to our room on the third floor. The guy drew this meandering line all through the property to get to it. We found out quickly that out of three elevators on the property one was working, and it felt like even that one had issues. Both us are handicapped, so stairs were out, so we took our chances. Upon opening the door of the room, once we found it, it was obvious that the $200 deposit made no sense because there was nothing in that room worth $200. We quickly found out the air conditioning did not work. The bathroom was not great, the shower was delaminating and stained. The couch had a funky smell that we did want to get familiar with. The bed was okay, the pillows flat. We had to get going to see family, so we planned to stop at Target and bought a 20-inch box fan to help the room. Upon returning to the room, we learned that there was no electricity in the outlets at the back of the room. Being users of a CPAP machine that is important. So, at 11:30pm I hiked to the front desk, which had one person manning it, and I took my place fourth in line. When I finally got to the front all I asked for was a 12-foot extension cord and a power strip. I was denied and alerted we needed to change rooms. Three doors down. We moved. It was worse. If we thought the first couch was bad, this one was worse. Whereas the other room had an okay bed, this had no real mattress, there was maybe about two inches of padding and then plywood. Tired, emotionally drained from a funeral that morning, we just said "f*ck it" and got a few hours' sleep. Next morning instead of sightseeing a little we packed the car and got out of there as fast as we could. We did get the $200 back, which was a pleasant surprise. We left feeling sad, if someone would take this property and put some money into it, it could really be something for couples, weddings, conferences and such. read more

This hotel was booked for family coming in to show their respects for my father who passed away this pass January. Let me be clear, my family did not stay here any of the nights. NONE of the the 3 rooms were sanitary, cleaned and had significant damage. After checking into the first room, I asked for another room Bc it was dirty. The gentleman walked me to 2 additional rooms that were all equally disgusting. Please note, as I was walking in to check in another couple was walking out upset and its understandable why. Room 301 First room was not cleaned at all. All the bedding was thrown on the floor. Mattress was bare. No clean towels and the room smelled of heavy cigar use and fragments of god knows what on the floor. Looked like dirt, or feces and chunks on the floor. The next room 362 Dresser was broken. Drawers were hanging on. Half the lights did not turn on. Smelled musky, and it had a hole in the wall!!!! Also front door would not properly close. The next room was shown #317 Walked in to the smell of urine and the tv was gone!! Completely missing with wires hanging out and fridge was not working. After 3 disgusting, embarrassing rooms, mourning my fathers death I asked for a refund. This is a health situation! Front desk attempted to refund, but they mentioned our best bet was to file a dispute Because the owners do not manage this hotel correctly and it clearly shows. Embarrassment of an establishment. There were also homeless that made their way into a room and the hotel staff indicated they could not do anything to remove them. Do not stay here. read more

Next room had pubes and soap stuck to the wall and it stunk of cigarettes.. rooms are so basic and things are so old and broken.. NOT CLEAN AT ALL - People are living there by the looks. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! If I could give 0 stars I would so first off, reviews from this place are way higher than they should be on booking sites, not sure how in the world that is. This is the absolute sh*tiest hotel experience I have ever had in my life. There are no pros, seriously, do whatever you can do to stay a 1/4 mile down the road at a hotel where you won't stay a night in fear and not have A/C. Friday night/Saturday morning I woke up at 1:45 in the morning to my door hitting the deadbolt lock numerous times. Upon waking up I found the door ajar and when I looked out the window I saw a car leaving in a hurry. I spent the next 3 hours with the local Covina police department. While walking to the room the Police officers asked why the h*ll I was staying here, to imply that if you know the area avoid this place at all costs. Once getting back to the room I saw that somebody tried to pry my door open. to see this was pretty terrifying. I checked out early, due to obvious reasons follow up with the hotel - Mr. Tong, refunded me one night and offered 50% on future stays for the inconvenience of somebody drunk"Knocking" at my door, absolute insanity. The professionalism of the emails back and forth from the hotel have been on the level of dealing with uneducated lemmings. 50% off and an upgrade to a suite!!!!!! oh man I can't wait to come back and actually get stabbed!!!! Also, there are long term residents living here, numerous windows are broken around the grounds, heavy graffiti and tags etched in the elevators, numerous areas smell like urine, a heavy list of features to be a hotel on skid row. While walking Police back to my room so they could investigate the door that was damaged, the amount of people awake and walking around the hotel grounds at 3AM proved that it wasn't the best place to stay. I emailed pictures to Mr. Davis Tong (sales manager) and Mr. George (Some form of manager) and only Mr. Tong replied with an offer of 20% discount on a next stay and an upgrade to an executive suite. I should not be forced to stay here to get compensation. This hotel should inform guests that they have roaches. Had we known, we would have not booked to stay here. My overall experience? I was Catfished !! In a time where my visit was for my dad in ICU at Kaiser Baldwin PK. This place was broken down and dangerously unsanitary. Had to move rooms the night we checked in. To another room with no phone, dirty and filled hidden trash and animal feces.( I called and complained and it fell on deaf ears!! Throughout our stay we could not get towel service( after calling 5 times through multiple days. Unapologeticly filthy inside and outside. I asked that I wouldn't be back to a overwhelming dirty room with a pleasant request. It got progesseably worst. To the point we had to reuse dirty towels. They offered breakfast on their package and it was a bad experience with unsafe food conditions, that I have pictures to document. The last day I had enough after spending 10 hours at the hospital coming back to a dirty room , no towels to take a shower and clean up. I attempted to speak with the front desk face to face and was treated like i was Non existent. And was given a towel to get out of their hair. My friend and I stayed at the Vanllee Hotel in Covina CA, in room 206 from 9/25 to 10/1. Our stay at this hotel was not pleasant to say the least. I have tried contacting the manager twice and no response. 1. For starters, the AC was not working most of the time we were there. The first time I talked to someone at the front desk, I was told it was the whole building, which it did eventually come back on, The second time, I was told that maintenance would come up and check. We waited all afternoon/evening, and no one showed up. AC eventually came on the next day at some point. After that, it was out again. The next day I complained about the AC not working once again, I was told it that the whole building. That night my friend ended up getting a severe asthma attack and almost called for an ambulance because the room was so hot and stuffy (even with the window and door open at night). Monday, our room got up to 80 degrees and we had to leave to go somewhere, just to get away from the heat. Thankfully the AC was working again before we had to check out the next morning. 2. The internet was spotty at best. I brought my laptop for work and was not able to do much at all because the signal was so weak that my computer (and both our cell phones) kept bounding off the signal. Or it would connect to the Wi-Fi, but there was no internet. 3. The hot tub was not working, which we were really looking forward to, and was partly why we chose this hotel. 4. Turns out the in-house restaurant is not open. According to the website, it's still there and functional, so we planned to eat there when we arrived that evening. We ended up having to get an Uber to go somewhere else. 5. All the signs and plaques around the building are wrong and outdated. We walked all over the second floor looking for the vending machines, ice machines, and where the laundry machines were. Couldn't find anything. We ended up washing some clothes in the sink. 6. The alarm in our room went off twice for several seconds one day, no idea why. I'm just glad it wasn't while we were trying to sleep. 7. The guy who has the gift shop in the lobby burns incense every day, and my friend and I are allergic to smoke (which triggers asthma attacks). We had to hold our breath and make it to the elevator every evening. Not sure if that violates the California Indoor Clean Air Act. 8. We are thankful there was some semblance of a breakfast, but it was minimal at best. It shows that little effort or care was given, and not very welcoming. 9. I liked that there was a computer desk for me to use, but I had to ask for a chair since there wasn't one in the room. One was found and eventually brought up. We also have some suggestions: - a non-slip mat in the shower. - towel racks or hooks in the bathroom would be helpful. - a door handle for the bathroom door- it was very difficult to open and close it, especially with severe arthritis. read more

Honestly not a place I would recommend at all. We stayed there this past weekend and we were not at all impressed about the room. When we checked in the staff was great but when we went into our room there was trash in the living room area. The mini fridge door was broken we opened it and it completely fell off and we barely even opened it up. The room was so hot we couldn't the windows at all so it was very hot the AC did not work at all. We found a roach when we went into the bathroom. By the bed the night stand under neath towards the wall there was a piece completely missing the water in the shower was cold didn't turn warm at all and then the shower wouldn't let the water drain either. There was used shampoo and soap in the bathroom as well. The jacuzzi was not working and it looked really nasty. Overall this place is not what it looks like on the pictures. My husband and I have a lot of family in the Covina area and have always stayed at The Vanllee when we come down for visits, but last weekend will be our last time there. Here are a few reasons why: -The back Security gate lock was broken -There was tons of trash all over the parking lot -Our room was only partially remodeled with the bathroom and bar area appearing to be original and never cleaned -There was horrible patchwork done to "repair" several holes in the walls -Right around the corner from our room was the "trash landing area" where trash collected all day until it eventually was taken to the dumpster (I presume) -The door was misaligned so it made a horrible sound every time we opened or closed it -There was a sound coming from the HVAC vent that sounded like someone was in it -Bathtub drained very slowly so we had water up to our ankles by the time our shower was done -The restaurant has been shut down for several months due to "emergency repairs" needed -The staff was rude and not helpful when I made them aware of us being charged twice for our room. I could go on, but please do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. There are plenty of nicer places to stay nearby. read more

Online everything looks so clean and put together and thought it would be a great place to take pictures with my bridal party. Boy was I completely wrong. Everything is so dirty broken and run down. Rooms smell like smoke BAD. My whole wedding party stayed here and I felt so bad. And the only reason we stayed was because we could not get a refund thru booking.com. Floors,walls, counter tops all filthy. It takes about 15 minutes to flush the toilet because the bowl takes forever to refill. Dont dare walk a few minutes barefoot or your feet will have a layer of dirt coated . When we came home after our wedding night we were greeted with a roach in our room. My husband killed it wiped down the counter and put our custom made pizza and dessert there while we changed into pjs so we can finally eat( crazy wedding day) and we went to get a slice of pizza and there was another roach on our food. . We 10 out of 10 don't recommend this place. Oh and their restaurant and bar is closed (thankfully) because we planned in having our rehearsal dinner there. And breakfast was pretty sad. Burnt scrabbled eggs ,bread and sausage. That's it . Don't try to tell workers there anything either they will literally just stare at you like your dumb and do completely nothing for you. I've stayed here multiple times. The rooms are def what you pay for. So much space though. I recently came here August 18th and at check in they had NO AC running in the entire hotel. Multiple people were checking out. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried the room but was unable to stay due to the heat with an unknowing of how long the repair would take. Along with other people checking out the manager gave us the deposit back with no questions but had to request the refund through the third party. Reason I am rating this is due to them denying my request on lying and saying the hotel AC was up and running with no problems and only refunded me $25 of my $150. I tried reaching out multiple times with the manager being away or no reply to them through their email. Also keep in note , the last 2 times i stayed the AC was barely working but suffice enough. I just don't think it's worth it at all if they're not going to make the right repairs. especially during summer read more

Bad experience over all/ I booked this place before looking at reviews because I used to work at the steakhouse attached and remember how nice it used to be. It now seems to be a homeless retreat of some sort. When I first arrived they said they only have 1 bed available even though I had booked for 2 , I let them know I would really like the 2 bed instead of the 1. They put us alll the way in the back no elevators worked and there were bikes and people smoking all over the place. For sure these people live here... there were cockroaches in the room and when I saw the thermostat it was 86 degrees I called front desk to let them know there was no working ac , it blew hot air. They said that it would be back on at 5 . So i took the kids to the pool for a couple hours, come back in it's even hotter. I had to call to ask to be moved. The new room was upgraded and by the pool. It did smell like smoke and was 81 degrees, it didn't cool off until about 10 pm but we just dealt with it. Only 1 working ice maker for the whole hotel with no Ac. Such a disappointing experience. Used to be beautiful the pool is amazing, my kids still would go back they even made friends with some of the kids that live their. read more

Gross! Where do I start? First at check-in, the rug was infested with bugs. My ankles we bit 10 times just by standing there. Then they charged me extra because I was 45min early. There was leftover food under the bed. When we came back to sleep for the night we set the thermostat. Turns out they shut off control to the thermostat without informing me and my 3 year old woke up cold at night. When I complained they said should have went to the front desk to get blankets (yeah right in the middle of the night with my babies?) The toilet broke and was running all night. The sink didnt drain. The remote control was missing the back. There were holes throughout the room. I made sure to document this because they are ready to charge me the deposit for anything that broke. At breakfast we were the first ones and when I opened the bread box there were small flies inside that flew out when i opened it. The cream cheese they provided was a big coscto size bin with a large spoon and inside contained all the leftovers crumbs inside from everyone who dug in. Then when I called to complain, the sales manager was so reluctant to waive the fee for early check but ended up agreeing to give it BUT it was never refunded. Tucked away little oasis. I've been coming here since I was a little girl. I am pretty sure ownership has changed and it's quieter due to COVID. Which I don't mind because I love how peaceful it is. The outside/lobby are a beautiful Spanish style, courtyard filled with beautiful palm trees/fountain/pool. Their rooms were renovated to a very simple temporary design, clean, and comfy bed. Pleasant staff, specious and nice room interior, but scary sounds and strongly scented rooms. Long version: Pros We went for the hotel as it was the best priced in the wide region. We wanted to have two kind beds and they had the best offer. The suite with king bed was specious and had whole front room with desk and sofa. The check in staff was very pleasant and welcoming. There is a gift shop there which provided good variety of essentials. The rooms were remodeled, and furniture was modern and beautiful. The beds used memory foam matrass which felt really good. Everything was clean. Cons: The rooms smelled very strongly for cleaning chemicals scent. It was like the whole can of scent was released to the room to hide the smoke smell. The room was nonsmoking, but there were smoke stubs on the balcony. The floors and walls are very thin, and everything can be heard from next door or from above. The worst was the toilet flushing sound that sounded like somebody just poured a bucket of water to our room. The door does knocking sounds every now and then. Nobody was knocking, but it was very scary and strange. My family did not feel safe there. There were frequently people smoking at the gate and sometimes also weed which smells horrible to me. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! If I could give this hotel NEGATIVE stars I would! There are many more reasons but I'll touch on the most egregious ones: 1) if you want to check in early they charge $20 per hour extra. 2) there are no lobby bathrooms. The closest ones are in the 2nd floor by their breakfast area and the men's bathroom is padlocked closed. Men and women have to use the women's bathroom but the women's bathroom doesn't have a lock on the door, the sink in the handicapped bathroom doesn't work and the main sink doesn't have soap or paper towels. 3) while we were there waiting to get checked in, I had no choice but to go to that unsanitary bathroom mentioned above. And while I was there, two "ladies of the night" came in. They sat on the counter and were discussing their customers in that hotel for the evening and making a schedule and plans for afterwards. UGH!!! (Maybe this is why the hotel charges by the hour for early checkin!) 4) the 1st room assigned had a broken security lock, the bathroom door wouldn't shut, the bed looked like it had been slept in (???maybe cause of #1, & #3 above), the light switches don't work so you have to plug/unplug lights to turn them on/off, the couch had stains that can only be described as smeared poop, and the bathroom was very unsanitary!!! 5) the 2nd room was not much better. The bed was hard as a rock (like sleeping on a plank), there are no fire alarms, the refrigerator isn't working, but hey at least the door locks. 6) when I called to complain I was told there are only 2 managers...a housekeeping manager and a sales manager. I spoke to the housekeeping manager, George Dong, (I hope that's really his name, cause that's the name he gave me!) he told me that we could get a credit for the 1st horrific night and be moved to a "Presidential" room for the rest of the week. Then he texted and said the Sales manager, Davis Tang, did not approve the refund for the 1st night. And they CANT do refunds. I'm sorry...WHAT??? 7) the breakfast advertised looks great in their ads....but the reality is that it IS NOT! It consisted of 2 types of cereals, milk & juices were not refrigerated, overcooked plasticky looking gross eggs and dry bagels. NO MEATS, NO CONDIMENTS, NOTHING ELSE! Their breakfast hours are from 7-9 and this was at 7:06, so there was no excuse for it to look that gross and inedible! The video only shows the first 12 sec so you don't see the horrible eggs. 8) while waiting on me, my husband was sitting on the lobby couches. There are supposed to be fresh flowers there but they were sooooo old, wilted and dying and the water was soooo gross. There was mold growing in the water and the flowers. STAY AWAY from this hotel, it had great reviews when I booked it and I now believe they were bogus! read more

So the check in was okay, not the best customer service. The toilet was clogged right away, called the front desk and someone advised they would come check it out.. they never did. This morning I was looking forward to a shower after my flight and the draining was poor. The guy at the desk didn't seem too concerned and said it worked. Idk about some people but I wouldn't like to shower standing in my own pool of dirty water. They offered me a room which was confirmed to be the same as mine and it wasn't. So for the amount I paid for I asked for the room like mine and they advised they would let me know as soon as the guest checked I it around noon. Called again and they then said it will be done by two. Called at 3:00 and was advised two more hours. Clearly I don't understand how they would have a guest sit and wait all day with a non functioning toilet and horrible shower drainage. So far it's been horrible! It's been a whole day of nonsense and the front desk doesn't seem to care to even try to get this room open sooner for their guest . read more

I'm going to say the only redeeming quality was the room and the little convenience store. Ambiance was solid. Customer service was ok, although a bit of a language barrier at times. The deposit is ridiculous 200, when other chain hotels usually charge 20 a night. When I checked out I wasn't handed a receipt declaring my refund. The worker said "house keeping is going to check out your room and determine if you're eligible for your refund". The steakhouse was closed. There was no breakfast even though it was advertised. The pool was nice. However there was exposed/damaged wiring near the hot tub and at some electric doors. The room was the only half decent thing but still there was a half empty dominos icing tray in the fridge and the freezer was visibly dirty. Overall just not that nice. This is just a juiced up motel/inn but I wouldn't call this place a "hotel" on its best day. For how much I paid I'm sure as hell not satisfied with what I received. read more

Made a reservation with Booking.com. The price was reasonable and the pictures of the hotel made it seem like we were getting a bargain. We were sold on the look and of the apparent cleanliness of the facilities. Also, there appeared to be an onsite steakhouse- Hamilton's. Upon arrival, the first disappointment was that the steakhouse was closed due to emergency repairs. After that the disappointments just piled on and on. The lobby was dismal with out of order vending machines and an elevator. The check in staff member was friendly and helpful, which was probably the only saving grace for this place. The parking lot had random shady looking people and the smell of weed in the air, which made the environment feel uncomfortable. The main courtyard had the pool where people were blasting music. You could see kids on scooters and bikes on the second floor riding along the the circumference. A lot of the landscape was dead, multiple out of order elevators and one working elevator with a lot of graffiti, unkept facilities, and out of order ice machines. We had to change rooms two times. The first time, was due to a missing television, dirty and rusty tub, and broken items. We changed rooms and again there were issues. The security locks were broken, the bed had hairs in it, and the sliding door leading to outside wouldn't look and had a gap where insects can crawl in to the room. We were ready to check out and find another place, but we were given an upgrade and a new room. The new room was better kept and much larger than the other rooms. There were a few issues, but it was habitable. The last issue was that there was a verbal argument filled with obscenities outside in the courtyard that lasted for about an hour with no one to stop it. That coupled with people being loud in the pool until around 9ish (give or take an hour). Overall, the place is run down and understaffed. The general vibe of the guests are rowdy. I would not recommend this place to anyone. This place needs a lot of love. Negative stars if I could. read more

This hotel is unsatisfactory. This is far from a Hyatt or Marriott. Do not stay here. Some of the photos make it look appealing but this hotel is renovating...some rooms. We found food in the pull out bed. The bathroom tiles were pealing. Broken grab handles in the elevator. Gate key card readers were not working. Shower water was like warm at best. Remote for tv is missing a cover for the batteries. Mattress is super thin. Gym had kids hanging out and no free weights and the cable crossover machine was out of service. I could keep going. Worst of all we used our points and from interval international. read more

One of the grossest hotels we've stayed at, our first room the whole front part of the room had no power. So coming to the hotel late at night and finding nothing worked, not even the phone line to let them know was super upsetting. As well as mold in the fridge. Woke up the next morning to let them know and they did switch me rooms.. Second room had a few dead bugs on the bed, a leak in the shower roof, no hand soap??, and MORE mold in the fridge. Charged me the incidental deposit twice for some reason. Waiting to see if that'll be returned soon. Would NOT recommend staying here. read more
