Every time I come to Cococane, i swing by Vans since Cococane has insane waits and I'm impatient. My go to? The veggie buns. They're a perfect ratio of fluffy bun to filling. Add that to how rare it is to find a veg friendly bun and we have my favorite place to go to baos. read more

My family ordered a birthday coconut durian cake and it was a huge mistake. They were nostalgic for something from the early 1990s. The cake looked alright, your typical pastel neon color icing. Unfortunately, it tasted like it was made in 1995. The sponge cake was airy dry bad. ALL of the frosting was not cold or warm, it was just odd room temperature whipped play-dough consistency. Between five people, it was so difficult to finish a slice. The sad part was, we knew all this, we had the same problem five years ago. We had just forgotten enough to try again. We have learned now. We will never purchase from here again. read more

Life is Full of Surprises. You can have your cake and eat it too! Today, Thanksgiving, I had to pick up dessert one hour before the family dinner. Van's came through. A fantastic flan-type tart with the best ripe and sweet fresh fruit ever. There are two bakeries in this plaza a few doors apart. One is fancy and shiny new with a fancy French name. They have great looking pastries, but the taste is not there. The customer service sucks. The other is Van's. Van's is not what it seems on the outside and the bakery items are amazing. The customer service is fantastic. Thanks to the young ladies helping me, I picked out a dessert I otherwise would not have. It was great! Prices...Reasonable Van's is proof that something may not seem to be what it is on the surface... but the more you look, the better it gets. Life is like that some times and Van's brings this analogy home. Life can bring you surprises and you find a gem where and when you least expect. This is Van's. I have a heart for Van's for more reasons than one. I love, love, love Van's! At Van's You can have your cake and eat it too. By the way..if you come here stop by Nuoc Mia Vien Tay doors down. I always order cakes for special occasions here. There are a few Vans Bakery at Orange County, around Little Saigon area but this is the original & the best among all of them (the one in the plaza at corner of Magnolia & Bolsa was the worst! I ordered Moka cake with almonds around today for Mother's Day & it was so delicious! read more

I ordered my wedding cake from Van's Bakery and it was exactly what my husband and I wanted! They had a booklet of cake designs they could do and the one we chose came out exactly how it looked! My florist dropped off my fresh flowers and Van's Bakery was able to add it on beautifully. We paid extra to have them deliver the cake to my reception location and they came right on time. We ordered pandan flavor for one of the layers and strawberry flavor for the other layers. All of our guests who had the cake enjoyed it and said it was the perfect amount of sweetness! read more

My fiancée (at that time) and I were referred to Van's Bakery by a friend. We went ahead and looked into Van's Bakery to design our wedding cake. The process was easy from start to finish. Tiffany and Tracy were awesome! They were very straightforward and guided us through the process without a glitch. Van's bakery also contracted with certain local venues for free delivery, so luckily, we had our wedding cake delivered. This saved us so much stress from having to worry about the process of pick-up/drop-off during our wedding day. The cake turned out fabulous and was very tasty. We originally had another icing design in mind, but Tiffany provided some alternative options and we loved the way it turned out. We recommend Van's Bakery. read more

Their cakes are so pretty but I often come here for Pate Chaud Pork , Iced coffee , and slice of their delicious mocha cake! I haven't ventured out to other items just yet but will eventually. The Pate Chaud are so buttery and savory The Iced Coffee is not too sweet either kind of has a chocolatey flavor haha The mocha cake is so soft and light not too sweet just the perfect amount of sweetness with sliced almonds on the side ( in case you have a nut allergy ) I recently bought a small one ($22.00 no inscription) The ladies are always so nice here :) read more

The last time I ordered a cake for my parents 50th anniversary and they made a beautiful two tiered wedding cake. I can't remember what I paid but it was over paid $200. Everyone enjoyed that cake and said the mocha flavor was mild and not too sweet. I came back to order for my dad's 75th birthday cake and seriously the cake did not deserve to be $125 at all. I asked for peach looking cake on top of a 12 inch round cake. The peach symbolizes long life in Chinese customs. It didn't even look like a peach. It was more like a dinosaur egg! They even have a photo of it in their book that showed a round peach. Not an oblong thing that looks like a dinosaur egg. And they charge $50 for this ugly looking peach. The cake was also not that good too. It was super sweet and not at all like typical asian bakery flavors. If I wanted a super sweet cake then I could have went to an American grocery store and paid less. Very disappointed as this was for my dad's 75th birthday. How many celebrate that age? I wonder if their baker that made the last cake for us was either on vacation or no longer working there this time. I don't recommend this bakery anymore as they ruined a very important birthday milestone for us. read more

Just ordered a half sheet fruit tart here and I can't wait to pick it up this weekend. It looked really good with the fresh fruit and the flaky crust. And they accidentally charged me too much - which I did not notice. Rather than sweep it under the rug, they called me to apologize and refunded the difference. The amount wasn't much, but it is refreshing to know that people still take pride in customer service... And not everything is about money. And that is what keeps me coming back here for more cake. Last weekend, we purchased a jelly cake for my father. He is very picky and he absolutely loved the jelly cake. It had a very unique flavor which we really enjoyed. And they also had a jelly cake with flan inside. That would have been too rich and sweet for us tho. Looking ahead to the holidays, there are a couple more opportunities for my family to celebrate with cake. So we will surely be back. read more

i go here every time i need a cake for special events. i am very picky and particular w what i want. i ordered my wedding cake, my sons dohl (korean first birthday) cake, my sons 3rd birthday cake, and recently my daughters 2nd birthday cake from here. the lady who makes my cakes is super nice and friendly. 3 out of the 4 cakes i ordered were custom made. all i have to do is explain and text her a picture of the kind of design i want. and every time i get the cake, im never disappointed. it always looks so pretty and tastes so yummy. im just writing here because i especially loved my cake daughters cake from today. and i want to post a picture of it. read more

I just ordered my wedding cake 2 months ago at Van bakery. I think this is one of the best bakeries in town. I ordered 3 flavors: pandan, mocha, and strawberry for 3 layers of my cake. When i ordered the cake, the lady at bakery offered me to buy the peony flower in stead of rose because it will make the cake more fancy. I did buy the peony and actually it was so beautiful! we really loved the cake! Overall i really like this bakery. I will strongly recommend this bakery for everyone who want to order cake for wedding, birthday, party, ect. read more

This review is for my wedding cake. My husband and I made an appointment for a cake tasting, we chose the strawberry flavored. They showed us a design book, and we chose something in their book that also matched what we were looking for. They were helpful in helping us choose what cake size we needed for our guest count. They delivered the cake to the venue (delivery charge). The cake came out beautiful (my wedding planner added flowers to it). Price for the 4 tier cake was a way better price when we were comparing quotes with other popular bakeries on google in the area. Went to pick up a last minute birthday cake not long ago and was able to get in and out very quickly. The cakes are really reasonable as well. I got the coconut cake for $25 and it was enough for 10-12 people. They pipe the wording on there -- not very beautifully though -- but last minute, it sufficed. The cake was a huge hit. Love, love, love Vietnamese/French bakery/snack shops! Their ham & cheese croissant was pretty good--wished they put in jalapenos like the ones in SD. Their pork and chicken patechaud were okay--kinda greasy & salty. Prices are fairly cheap compared to the bakery a few doors down. Cakes look beautifully decorated. This place holds a lot of history in my heart. I've been going here for as long as I could remember. My parents would take me here and I would get my bbq pork bun and the custard buns. Heated up on the spot. I was forever in love. I'm sure there are better places for the buns but it's still amazing to me. I'm just familiar with the taste. I came here last week with my sister for those Macarons and boy were we happy!! Service was great! The lady behind the counter helped us decided which Macarons to get--- which were all of them. LOL. $15 for a dozen Macarons seemed like a rip off at first since they were smaller than I imagined but they were soooooo yummy!! We wanted to sample all the flavors that they had... We booked our wedding cake almost a year in advance. we went in and met with someone and made an appointment for a tasting where she showed us literally 100 pictures of different styled wedding cakes. she was SUPER friendly and knowledgeable with all things wedding cake. after sitting in the shop for what felt like an hour, we finally put in our order. the top tier was going to be a chocolate sponge cake with mocha and a quilted pattern, number 2 was vanilla with mocha and a lace pattern, 3 was chocolate with strawberries covered in sparkling sugar, and four was vanilla with strawberries and wrapped in lace. when i came to drop off my ribbon, lace, and flowers, they double checked the design with me but not the flavors...i know, i should have double checked. the day after, when we got our cake, it was absolutely beautiful. the decorations looked amazing and the flowers were done just how i wanted. when it came time to cut the cake, i realized it was the wrong flavor. the entire cake was done with the vanilla sponge. although i let it go because i literally only had one bite, it still upset me that they got the flavors wrong! overall, i would recommend for a light cake that guests will eat even after a full 8 course meal. it was priced very well and even though there was a slight mishap, i was still very happy with how it turned out. read more

Van's bakeries are accessible, dependable, and cheap during desperate sugar attack emergencies, but I would not go out of my way to visit a Van's bakery. I actually prefer Sing Sings Bakery's and Taste of France's fruit tarts way more because of their flakey pastry crust and crunchier fresh fruits (I don't like soft mushy fruits on my fruit tarts). read more

@Olivia We paid $250 for a 3 tier cake that fed at least 150 people. We later returned the plastic tiers and got $50 back! So $200 total. The cake was moist and the raspberry filling was good. Great deal and I'd use them again. Note: If you get black like I did, it will be on your lips and teeth. read more

We ordered our wedding cake from Van's Bakery on Brookhurst this past Fall. By far, Van's was the easiest vendor to work with. The woman who took our order when we went to order the cake was professional and friendly - very upfront about how much the cake would cost and what it would look like. She also helped us decide between different styles of cakes for what we needed (I.e., a cake for a 130 person wedding). We ordered a 3 tier round vanilla cake with mocha, pandan coconut, and strawberry filling for the layers. We were very happy when we saw the cake at our wedding reception. It was beautiful, and our several of our guests told us how good the cake was. We only tried the mocha and strawberry layers, which were very good (especially the strawberry). Looking forward to stopping by Van's to try the pandan at some point. I would recommend Van's for your wedding cake. Affordable, professional, and tasty. read more

Van's Bakery cake comes with our wedding package at no additional cost. It is a 3 tier cake with simple decorations. It's not super contemporary, but we still liked the design. We paid an extra $20 for an additional tier. Their most popular flavor is mocha and that was the flavor we went with. They take a $50 deposit for the cake stands, but will reimburse you once the items are returned. Their contact was very easy to communicate with and worked well with our coordinator. The last time I've been to this place was back in mid-2017. I miss those good times. I remembered the last thing I brought from this place was a strawberry-flavoured cake. The workers were wonderful and professional with their jobs. The floors are a bit messy but at least there isn't any bugs on the floor. Friendly service, accommodating and responsive to our needs. We requested no kiwi due to one allergy to it and they make it within 10 minutes.

The thing I dislike most about the Van's Bakery chain is that they have a tendency to "recycle" their bakery goods. If they bake something and it doesn't sell, they tend to push off those cakes to unassuming customers. We bought some cream puffs here and got 6. Tried them in the car and they were fresh and good. We then went in a second time to order 6 more to bring home. Thinking it would be the same quality as the first batch we ordered, we didn't even open the bag to check them until we got home. Turned out the second batch they gave was of deformed cream puffs that didn't even rise to create any sort of puff. If that wasn't bad enough, the pastry was tough and stale. BUYER BEWARE...Van's Bakery does not always serve fresh goods. We were very unhappy. If a customer pays good money for something, then give them a good product in return. read more

Uhh Y Uhh Grossss ~! I bought the Chicken and Mushroom Roll there at Van's bakery on Brookhurst St, Garden Grove, CA on two diiferent occasions. Every time, at home when I unwrap them, they all have nasty smell and look mushy, rotten. I called in one time, they said they will reimburse me back, but they did not refund my $ when I get there explaining the problem, they even said, if I don't like it then just do not buy it. Here, this is about food safety for the public, as a food facility, that should be their #1 concern but they do not even comply and they do not listen to me, may be from the help of the Health Department visit them more often every month, they may listen. I will definitely report to the Health dept for the public food safety. read more

This place is so rude and lazy. I called in the morning to order a drink and said I would be there in a few minutes. When I got there and I said I called in. I asked not one but all three of their workers and said they didn't receive any call. I didn't care but about it and got my drink. The next morning I called again and this is what they said, "you ordered and didn't pick up your order and if you want it come here and wait for me to make it". What a piece of shit place. Better than Boulangerie, they have taro cake, but it was not anything special because it was plain and bland. My experience? MEH! I got a very old fruit cake from here. I think a big bakery like this would not sell old day cake but they do. I am not sure how many days have been left over. I saw their online menu had a good variety of flavors I could try, though for next day the only available cake was vanilla sponge cake, which was still really good and not too sweet. The texture was light and fluffy, not at all dense, and easy to cut through. I chose a matcha filling and the flavor was solidly matcha, which we loved. I asked what designs were available for next day and they patiently provided the different options of flowers, polka dots, or seashells and catered toward female or male, and adult or child, suggesting real flowers over sugar flowers for adult female. I chose a blue color and appreciated that they even asked what shade of blue (lighter, medium, darker) and was asked what writing I wanted, then confirmed my pickup time the next day and put down a $10 deposit. The next day for pickup I wasn't sure what to expect but it actually turned out gorgeous. Since my friend is a baker, I was nervous what she'd think but she loved it as well. They have a small lot outside the bakery, which is cozy and cute with great natural light inside. It took awhile to get someone at the front but they did amazingly with the cake, even adding little sugar pearls and gorgeous script with hearts. The full quote was $55 and considering all the custom flavors, colors, design, and writing, even the smallest size was enough to feed 10 people with leftovers. Overall, the cake was light, delicious, not too sweet, beautiful, and turnaround was quick. They made a custom cake really easy to order for someone who didn't have a specific design in mind and made it look intricate despite having just one day to put together. I was really happy with how smooth the process was, how reasonable priced the cake is, and the great texture and flavor. When we arrived, the told us that they had taken back our order because it had been over 5 days and no one had picked them up yet. Then they told us they would try and see if they could recreate our order. TBH, that is the absolute most ridiculous way to do business. No where on their site did it say it had to be picked up within a certain timeframe, AND no where on their confirmation pick up email did it say it had to be picked up by a certain timeframe either. On top of that, they said that we should have called them. Um no, it's your small business, you have left over orders that need to be picked up, then you need to reach out to the customers and let them know they only have so many more days to pick them up before they are forfeited. That's how all small business, food-related or not, handle thing, especially when there are timeframe constraints. To be clear, the time constraint was not an issue IF they had even expressed there is one, but they never did. Please clean up on your business practices, it's very important to communicate with your customer base.
