there are a lot of blaa Mexican restaurants in the northland so when I tried this one I was hoping for the best and wow Mi Ranchito is much better than others I have tried. Having heard a lot about this restaurant from friends who live out south, was excited to hear of a location opening up in the northland. Short summary: food was decent - very similar to jose peppers, service was a disaster First the service story - got seated at a bar table at 6:48 (I only know that because they have a digital clock on a bar sign that was right in front of me). For the next 15 minutes...nothing... people constantly came to tables around us, but apparently nobody had 'our' table. You would think one of them would at least notice the 'table getting ignored' and tell someone. Finally at 7:03 - the chips and salsa guy dropped off some chips and salsa. Ok, at least we got something - finally. Then we continue to wait, after another 5 minutes (yes, that's now 20 minutes without a waitress stopping by) a lady from the table next to us goes and informs the nearby hostesses that we are being ignored. (Personally, we were going to see how long it took to get noticed.... so I kind of wished she hadn't - we might have had some free chips and salsa and just left). We did finally get a server - I think she was probably a manager who just took our table out of necessity - came by apologized and then offered some free espinaca dip and took our drink orders. The waters came right away, but my beer - another 10 minute wait. Arghhh. Food finally arrived - in the end we got free espinaca and she gave us coupons for a buy one get one free entree and another free espinaca (I would rather she comped 1/2 our bill). Now the food.... It is very similar in style and presentation as Jose Peppers. That is - it is more Tex Mex than authentic mexican. The chips and salsa are good - the salsa could use a bit more spice for my liking, but it was decent. The espinaca dip is also tasty. My enchiladas were good (not great). Wife had a taco salad that got a resounding 'meh' and my daughters steak was just ok - had an odd seasoning. We will give it another shot after they have been open for a bit longer, but it probably won't become one of our favorite Mexican joints. It definitely is better than Margaritas - I mean they at least have Mexican beer on tap! read more

I have only been once since the opening. We sat in the bar and had excellent service all of our food came out in great time. All the food was hot and cooked perfect. We had the Patron Margaritas they were also made great. Only bad thing was the management, an African American Male. We were there for 2 hours and I did not see him do anything except put his staff down in front of guests the entire time. The staff did a great job while he sat back and collected a paycheck. Was glad that one day we drove past and saw a new Mexican eatery in my old stomping ground. Have been many times and really enjoy the white cheese dip that is priced out of this world! Also chips thin and great...salsa very fresh....Corn accompaniment sweet and contrasts with the food. Great service every time and fast service too. Reasonable priced and clean. Not Tex Mex but I'd say a medium style Mexican food...large portion size. Give it a try. I have been to the Gladstone Mi ranchito about 5 times now. So, I have seen the good and the bad. 1. Don't go at lunch - they have major issues. I have heard this from friend and then we went on Saturday. We were there around 11:45am and there were only a handful of others there, so service should have been good. The poor guy waiting on us was good, but something is really messed up in the back. First, the jalapeno poppers came out cold. Then, we waited on our food for 25 minutes. When it came out, portions of it were cold! Had to send it back. Very odd. And, the manager delivered the food and just apologized for it being so long. No offer for a free dessert, etc? Not that I wanted one, but hey, some effort could be made to make us happy. Management (who is a younger individual) really needs some training. He looked like he was brought out of the kitchen, put a nice white shirt on, and they slapped the manager tag on him and said good luck! 2. Dinner - when you arrive, be prepared the hostess situation to be a discombobulated mess. You'll see what I mean. They are poor at greeted you - even when you are at the hostess stand staring right at them saying hello - its like you have to tell them you are interested in getting a table. 3. The only bad entree I have had is the Friday night Seafood Enchilada - STAY away from this one unless you LOVE black pepper. It is way over peppered and it ruins the entire dish. Overall, we will continue to go there, but can see how some people would be turned off and never return. Hopefully their management can figure it all out. I've visited Mi Ranchito a few times and every time it has been great! I've tried the chimichanga, nachos, tamale, crispy taco, and have enjoyed a margarita or two!! The tamale was by far my favorite, it was topped with a red sauce and creamy white sauce and the grilled chicken inside was moist and flavorful! The waitstaff was incredibly friendly, and the manager came by to check on our food and order. They all seemed utterly concerned about us having a positive experience in their restaurant and made the evening wonderful!! read more

This restaurant is AMAZING. My mother and I went on 5/17/14 for lunch. We were immediately seated, chips and salsa came as we sat down. The waitress was also there as soon as we sat to get our drink order. The staff was very knowledgable about the food and even brought samples of sauce that we had questions about. The food was so fresh and delicious. I had the Burrito Del Norte and I couldn't get enough. I also really like that they serve black beans, as I'm not a fan of refried. I've told so many people about this place. You cannot beat the prices either. Very impressed! read more

Great Food! Poorly trained wait staff. --- PROS --- - Good Mexican food at a fairly good price. Drink pricing is a bit on the high side. - Food is served VERY hot. - During major sports events, most of their TVs are tuned to the event. - Staff is 'mostly' attentive. It seems like every time we go, there is a point when the waiter will disappear for a long time. I'm guessing they have cover too many tables. But on the whole, they take care of the table. - Full bar area with several tables. - Atmosphere is pleasant with plenty of wall decorations to match the theme. - Limited parking up front (really the side of the building) but plenty of parking behind the restaurant. --- CONS --- - Gladstone water is served (Gag ... Choke!) - Serves Pepsi (Gag... Choke!) (and yes I hate Pepsi... but I will drink it over Gladstone water) - Every time I go I must ask for a refill on a soft drink. It is not automatic. (why?!?) - Small waiting area inside. During crowded nights, folks will be waiting outside. - cramped seating area and large parties may flow out into the path of traffic or be split up. - Pay close attention to where you are seating, and refuse the seat if you don't like it. -- Example 1) During the winter time they wanted to seat me and my wife up front by the door. I asked if we could sit further away... so the lady smiled and took us back and seated us next to the axillary doors (which amazingly half the restaurant used to get to their cars out back). So we were seated in a worse seat than if were up front. Lesson learned! -- Example 2) Large people were seated in a row of booths... each one pushed their booth seat a little bit back expanding the distance... now we are ushered to our table at the end of the row of booths. There is about 8" clearance between the seat back and the freaking tables. This is not a comfortable seat option for even the skinniest of anorexic celebrities. Why would management even offer this to a guest?!? So... looking over my review, it seems like I really dislike the place. But I really like the food! I just have troubles with the poorly trained staff. I would still recommend this restaurant to someone to try out, but not for anyone in a hurry... or anyone with a short stupidity fuse. read more

Outrageous fee of $8.50 asked to make-up alacarte (of course drink was 2.50 more), so ordered the $9.99 meal. Received the food, too spicy, too much (so half left uneaten), I left one of two enchiladas and most of the beans untouched. Very bad waste of food dollar budget. They used to have alacarte on their menu and were cleaner inside. Additionally, the place needs redecoration, lighting, and does not appear clean. Never again. read more

Went here for dinner with my family and had an absolute blast. We went on a Saturday night and enjoyed watching college football on the many TV screens. As we were seated were we presented almost immediately with hot and fresh nachos with salsa. The service was nice and friendly. I ordered Carne Assad Tacos that's were to die for. The rice was a bit dry but I'll excuse it for the taste was delicious and fresh. The food was that of an authentic Mexican restaurant and everyone in my family ate all of their food. The taco salad and chicken tortilla soup were great, and the enchiladas were amazing as well. For a nice family dinner, and to watch the big game, this is a great spot. read more

I'm uber picky, and have food allergies to boot, but the server Judy guided me to the most amazing bacon wrapped shrimp fajitas. The soupy beans (charros?) were delicious. My kids even ate them. It was busy, but our food came out quick & hot. There was a hispanic man going from table to table, asking if everything was good. When he got to us, he noticed my daughter hadn't eaten much and offered to make her something different, but I told him it wasn't the Mac n cheese, she just wasn't hungry. Where do I begin?! Doesn't even deserve the one star. No host at the front door with the line growing by the second. FINALLY got seated and had the worst service ever! Ordered cheese dip and didn't get it until the 2nd request several minutes later. Was served cold rice with the promise of new rice. 10 minutes later and still no hot or even warm rice. Mi Ranchito is easily my favourite place in town to get Mexican food. I love Tex Mex (no surprise, I'm Texan) and have had a hard time finding a restaurant that is as good as what I'm used to in San Antonio, but Mi Ranchito comes close. The only thing I didn't care for when I went was the frozen margarita. Otherwise, chips, salsa, queso, and main dishes have been really good. They have a gluten-friendly section of the menu and all vegetarian offerings are clearly marked, which is always nice. Over all I'd recommend them and Abuelo's for decent Mexican food in SA, with Mi Ranchito being less pricey and more of a mom and pop place. read more

The long, Friday-evening wait was worth the delicious food and margaritas! I wasn't terribly impressed with the chips/salsa options served before the meal, but our actual dinners were awesome. I had shrimp tacos and my boyfriend has a deep fried chimichanga with steak and cream cheese inside. We both had a couple of $2 12 ounce margaritas and they were very tasty! I will make this short and simple. Waitress forgot my soup (apparently she thought that comes after your entree); specifically stated NO ONIONS - food had onions in it; poured water into our soda glasses for refill; waitress asked if we wanted to use $5 promotion/coupon, she did not put it on final check - had to redo; forgot the take-out order that we ordered (thankfully); and to top it all off, no apology for the horrible service whatsoever. Went for espinaca an hour before close on a sunday night ( i typically only get espinca dip from here) it was good as always...BUT.. Sunday night its still about a medium crowd, none around the bar, and as im stand there waiting for the chips and queso to come back, the manager an older blonde lady (WILLIE) is eating chips & salsa right in front of me! Once she see's me watching and giving her a dirty look she then tries to kinda casually chew? as if i didnt see her (lol)..Anyone whos worked in a restaurant knows you do not want to eat in front of customers, its gross. with no other workers around, and with me staring at her she then goes behind a slim pole in plain site and takes a shot of tequila, RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! how did i know it was tequila?? be cause she bit the lime afterwards! i was disgusted after this.. if this person was so blatantly careless, how was my food prepared? At this point if i wasn't hooked on there espinaca i would just leave, but my chips were coming. i also started looking around and saw other shot glasses and cups of soda near each other as if a group was taking them. maybe she was just catching up? Im not a stickler and i dont leave reviews allday, if i worked i worked there i would prob eat the chips as well, and if i was closing late night and could, i'd have a shot or two..but if your going to do that at least do it in the back witch was 2 feet away or when customers are gone . if management is doing this, who knows how low of service standards she is setting for everyone else there, i made a point to ask the yound lady if the older blonde was her manager and her name when she brought my food. While I have eaten here a couple of times and can say I've had pretty good luck with the food being equal to the other Mi Ranchito locations, I have to say that the service at this particular location has always been lacking when we have stopped in. It's hard to tell which side of the restaurant you are supposed to come in at to wait to be seated. If you come in the wrong side, nobody directs you to the other end, you just have to figure it out. We have spent plenty of time (upwards of 20 minutes) waiting for a table here when there are numerous empty tables in plain view. Service has been extremely awkward two of the three times we have visited. I believe in the future we will plan to visit other Mi Ranchito locations when the craving hits us. read more

Love the food and the choices! We always walk away very stuffed and happy. The service has always been very friendly. The only downside is it gets very loud in the restaurant, a bit difficult to have dinner conversation (not sure how you would fix that though).
