It has been a pleasure to be styled by my regular stylist, as well as by new Vasuda onboarding stylists and team members, all of whom are talented individuals. TODAY August 25, 2026, I had the privilege of receiving services from SHAKIRA!!! Although new to the team, Shakira delivered a comprehensive service, which I greatly appreciated. Incredible salon and service! My son has hated his coily, curly hair. He plays a lot of sports so it's often frizzy and hard to manage. Other salons I called or took him to said there was nothing they could do to relax his hair and make less coily (and be "in style") - they said his hair wouldn't hold or it would break it off. I called Salon Vasuda and initially talked about my son's hair and asked for their recommendation. They spent the time to talk through options on the phone (the other salons didn't do that) and I felt like they really understood curly hair. For our appointment, Emmitt was AMAZING - he really knows curly hair. he gave 2 options and then his recommendation based on what look my son was going for. He took the time to explain everything. The outcome was exactly what my son wanted which I honestly didn't think would come out as well as it did. I've never seen my son smile so much or be so happy about his hair. This is our new salon! Let me start by saying - I hadn't had a haircut in 3+ years before Vasuda, partially because of the pandemic, but mostly because of some mediocre experiences at other salons. As a white woman with very curly hair, it felt like every salon I tried to go to either tried to cut my hair like it was just straight or ~wavy~, or like my curls didn't respond to the usual tips & tricks like it was expected to. The end result was always the same - a hair style that was fine, but that I ended up spending months creating a new regimen of products, tools, and routine to care for. Inevitably, I would try to switch stylist or salons and feel the same way over and over. Enter Katie! Not only did this woman actually explain to me - for the first time in my life - what my hair texture and curl pattern were like, she also explained every step of the process as she went. Why she was cutting it where, what it would do, how to deal with common issues (pyramid head! frizz! being able to pull it back!). She walked me through her product selection, made me attempt the same styling techniques, taught me how to use a diffuser - all so when I washed my hair for the first time 3 days later, I actually had a good starting point. I still had to learn and develop my exact routine, but the months between weren't spent with my hair in a bun or a braid to hide a haircut I didn't really want like usual. I literally cried in the salon when Katie showed me the end result. I can easily say it was the first time in 27 years I left a salon feeling confident in my choice, in the result, and feeling like I could keep it up moving forward. I think I found my new hair place! My friend recommended this place to me a while ago before she moved away from Seattle, and I'm glad I finally decided to come here to get a cut and color. I usually am cheap about trims because they aren't a big deal and I don't want to spend over $40 for a quick trim. I think the cut here was about $35 for a Level 1 specialist and the balyage color is around $120. I was willing to splurge to get a new hairdo and I was really happy with the end results! Briana was my stylist and she was amazing. She's super sweet and good at what she does. The salon itself is really close to my place so that was a huge plus. They have a tricky parking situation so I will be walking over next time instead of parking. The salon is clean and they sell a lot of products too including Dermalogica products because they have an in-house esthetician too who can provide facials and more. They also provide a free trim 4 weeks after your cut. I think I may be taking advantage of that! read more

Going natural after years of braids and perms gave me great pause. But, I really wanted a cute, easy hairstyle that would make swimming hassle-free. Emmett and Tanis took my wishes and turned them into reality. I love my new look! I have wavy hair I started wearing naturally 10 months ago and although my last hair stylist was knowledgeable, she had no idea how to cut and style my wavy hair once I made the change. I see Jaden here who is very skilled with textured hair and I couldn't be happier. He takes great care and attention in cutting and styling my hair both wet and dry. I've been debating on whether or not to post this because of how great everyone at Vasuda was. I went in to chop all of my hair off and was left with an embarrassing scar that is most likely permanent. This was the first time Ive gotten my head shaved, so I thought my experience was normal. Now I know that it wasn't. The clippers were pulling at my hairs and when the color was applied, my head was burning (like a relaxer burn). I casually mentioned it to someone later, but I figured it was part of the process. When I got home, I found what looked like a swollen burn along the back of my head (picture with the earrings). It later turned into a long scab and is now what you see in the pictures. In addition to this, I had small linear scabs along my hairline and inside the part. The new haircut is not from Vasuda, but you can clearly see the scar. read more

It's been close to a year since my first visit and I'm hooked for life. They could move to Olympia and I would be down there for my bi- weekly visit When I first came to Vasuda my hair was so damaged due to years of using a pressing comb. I couldn't run my fingers through my hair without seeing strands coming out. Now my hair has done a complete 180. Full of body and growing more than ever. My hair has never been this healthy. I was very nervous about trying a new salon because not everyone can handle my hair. I googled "curly hair stylist" and this salon came up. I live in the area and they could get me in the next day, which is great. I seen Michelle. What she did to my hair was beyond fantastic. I am not exaggerating in the least when I say that I've never seen my hair look this good! Not only did she NAIL the cut I had in mind, while doing it in half the time it took my old stylist, but she put the perfect amount of product in my hair and I left that salon looking like a million bucks. I've gone here a few times and they usually do a good job. My hair is not the easiest, being curly. But I really felt like I was being punished on my last trip by Ariana. The Stylist I had was yanking my head so hard. She started from the top-middle, too. I thought it was basic knowledge to start combing from the ends? Then I got sat under a blow dryer which started to burn. I actually teared up under it but was too afraid to say anything. Also did not get the cut I requested at all. I just lost some length. And I'm really paranoid now that she broke several strands of my hair with the rough treatment of the brush. It also seems half an inch shorter on one side when I part my hair down the middle and look in the mirror there's a definite difference. The place is really close to my house which is why I gave them another shot but I won't be going back. read more

Accidentally chose the wrong service online when making the appointment but the woman I worked with was able to make it work and do what I wanted to do with my hair. I called to express my disappointment with the outcome of my hair and to hopefully provide valuable feedback. The stylist I had originally booked with called in sick, so they paired me with a "colorist." The colorist had my roots puffy after blowdrying, which I have never experienced. The owner essentially blamed me and said that because I asked the stylist to use a different brush (after seeing my roots puffy at the completion of the blow dry process), it was my fault that my roots were puffy. That isn't very logical. She also said that I didn't trust the stylist from the beginning. What's funny is that I was working on my phone the whole time and asked one question about the products she was using because the scent was really nice. Otherwise, I let the stylist do whatever she was doing until I looked up after the blow dry to see a mass of puffy roots and somewhat straight ends sticking up everywhere. How this translates into lack of trust from the beginning is beyond me, but the owner has an explanation for everything so this is consistent. The owner even came up to me with a card reader while I was still mid-service and asked me to make payment (with tip) before the service was complete. That was tacky. As for stylist credentials, the owner proceeded to lay out the credentials of the stylist and how she does lots of "ethic hair". Oh lord. I just wanted them to take the time to understand what my hair needs. The proof is in the outcome, not in credentials. My hair lasted 3 days, barely, when it usually lasts 3 weeks. My photos are pretty much ruined. My plans to wear my hair straight for the upcoming holiday week and get a break from styling my curly hair for 2 weeks are down the drain. The appearance and maintenance of hair is very important to women, especially black women and should not be treated lightly. The owner knew that the stylist was not a good fit for my texture, but just wanted the business. Thereby creating an awkward encounter with an underprepared stylist and an unsatisfied customer. A business that defaults to blaming customers is also not worth any additional patronage. Very strange experience. I was pretty embarrassed for them. At the end of our call, I thanked her and all I heard was a "click." Despite the owner, the stylists seem nice and professional. If you have very coarse or kinky hair, I would ask a lot of questions about technique, see client photos and go with low expectations. read more

This review has been a long time coming! I live very close to this salon and have been here for most of my hair needs (howbeit not too many) I went first (several years ago) for a haircut with Erica and I remember it was exactly what I wanted. Then this past fall I went to see Michelle for a total color correction (I dyed my hair lavender the summer before, which by the way was awesome!) back to my natural brunette. The care that went into this was outstanding. She matched the base color to my natural hair growing in and added a gorgeously subtle balayage. In the past months my hair has been growing out it just keeps looking better and better! Although I am not a professional stylist, I am a hair and beauty junkie and so I am not always easily impressed. I brought my 9 yo daughter in for her first 'grown up' cut because I heard Vasuda was great for those with curly hair. Not only did her stylist do a fabulous job with her cut to bring out the curls, and guide her and I on how to care for hair... but they had a super safe, friendly and fun environment. Alexis was great in both her expertise, customer service and was just a positive professional all around. So much so, I may even consider going there myself even though I have loved my stylist for over a decade. Pandemic times: The staff were all masked, even after current guidelines were being adjusted. I have been going back and forth on leaving this review since I was hoping for good experience at Vasuda. But I'm really disappointed with the haircut I got with Jaden. I originally came in 2 months ago to do a consultation with Emmett but after was told Jaden would be cutting my hair. I figured that would be fine since all the stylist must have all the same curly hair education. I let Jaden know I was pretty nervous since the last time I got my haircut it was cut very short, especially my bangs, before the curl pattern would start. I felt I was pretty clear with what I wanted and what Emmett recommended during the consultation but I'm not sure he took it into consideration. He cut the majority of my hair dry and then cut my bangs wet in one full swoop, so now my bangs look very square and blunt. He then styled my hair by racking his fingers downward and then putting me under the drying cap. Which doesn't work for someone who asked for volume and more definition through the root. It was disappointing to see a curly specialist not know how to cut and style all curls. I let him know at the end I wasn't happy with it, especially my bangs because they were not curling due to being cut incorrectly. He told me that my hair was "tricky" and this was my hair was "reacting" to the haircut. If Jaden wasn't sure on how to cut my hair or couldn't, I would of preferred him saying something beforehand, rather than just doing it and hoping for the best. I have 4A hair and I was scheduled to get my hair washed and straighten by Ariana. She was very nice and friendly but I would not recommend her if you have curly hair. She took about 5 minutes to wash my hair....and if you have curly hair, you know you need more time. She barley washed and conditioned my hair. When she was flat-ironing my hair, she was burning my roots because the did not blow dry my hair completely...my roots were still damp so when she was flat-ironing it...it burned my scalp. The back of my hair and my edges were not properly straighten, in fact, the back of my hair was still kinky in texture. Barely any hair product was used to style my hair. I left the salon with hair sticking out (like I was electrocuted) . I had to go home and put some oil to smooth it out before heading back to work. The only reason I'm not leaving a 1 star is because the customer service was good. When I pointed that my edges was not straighten, she tried to fix it. I'm not sure if it was an off day or what but I can only speak about this experience. The appointment felt rushed even though I arrived early. I think this salon is more appropriate for straight and wavy hair but would not recommend it for curly hair. read more

Vasuda and Emmett exceeded my expectations in all areas. I have really curly hair that grew out since quarantine and have issues in the past with people not knowing how to cut and style it properly. After a recommendation from a co-worker who also has curly hair, I decided to visit Vasuda. I'm sure things are weird during COVID times, but I felt safe and welcome from the start. Emmett was very knowledgable, and while I did show him some photos, I really believe I could have just described to him what I want and it would have came out perfectly. He's a wizard with curly hair, and his assistant/apprentice Anastasia (I'm sorry if I'm getting your name wrong!) gave me a fantastic wash before the cut. Vasuda is Seattle's curly hair Mecca. I've come in for trims, blow outs, deep conditioning treatments, and most recently straightening, color, and extensions. I booked a consultation with Emmett and Ariana completed my services. I walked in with a picture of a literal supermodel and walked out with her hair, but better -- that never happens!! I'm in love with the finished product and the process was enjoyable too; all of the stylists I've interacted with (including the receptionist) have been kind and patient. I rarely write reviews but wanted to let people know what kind of customer service to expect at this place. I booked my appointment days in advance online. I recently had a baby and my hair is a mess so I was really excited to check this place out. I got a call on the morning of my appointment saying they needed to reschedule bc the stylist had a family emergency. This would have been fine Except the receptionist was Incredibly rude on the phone and they didn't offer an apology or any thing to make up for the inconvenience. In my experience when a worker has an emergency you get someone else to come in to cover. At the very least you act graciously about the inconvenience. I'd rather spend my money on professionals that don't hire a petulant child to answer phones. Won't be rebooking here read more

Chop chop! It's about time! I waited two years to chop off 10 inches just for Locks of Love. And, this place happens to be in my new neighborhood. I walk my dogs by here everyday. Therefore, I decided to walk in just two days before the new year. I thought it would be a good change for myself as well. Parking: It's a commercial building where you can park in the underground garage before 6PM. (after 6PM will be residential parking so if you don't move your car, it will get towed). However, the parking garage is really really tight. If you are lacking of parking skill, please park across street by Safeway :-P Decor: It's a very modern salon, very bright, very clean, and the space is wide. By the reception counter, there is a sitting area with a lot of magazines. By the entrance, there are a lot of hair products. Staff: All the staff is friendly here. My stylist, Delicia is very knowledgeable about what she was doing on me. She gave me very good advice after that 10-inch chop because she can tell I am a lazy gal! :-) I am scheduled to see her the end of January to get a touch-up. Price: I thought the price was very reasonable. With tips, I paid $42. I got wash, cut, and blow-dry. I am happy with my new short haircut. Most of my friends thought it was good too. I'm updating my review of this salon because of a problem I've experienced with them more than once, they OVER CHARGE!!! Now the standard things such as color, wash & style are within reason, but everything else is ridiculous. Be sure to look at the price list online. Make sure you don't book an appt with a "L4" stylist and never get a relaxer, Keratin treatment or a Brazilian blowout unless your ready to spend 1/2 months rent. I love the stylist there and pricing is out of their control unfortunately. So beware of the services you book. read more

Following my last visit to Vasuda, I won't be returning to this salon for future services. Last Sunday, I traveled to the Northgate location to get my hair washed and styled in two French braids. I've had this service done SIX times previously this summer at the Tacoma location. This last visit I was charged more than double what I've paid before. I was astounded when they told me I owed $95 for the service I received. I'm still sick about it. I reached out to the owner a week ago and haven't heard back on why he charged me more this time around. read more

The stylist was very nice. My hair cut was good. However, it was not a place for curly hair. I am Caucasian with blonde curly hair. For some reason everyone treats my hair like it was straight. Wash, comb, cut while combing, blow dry, then puts product in by twisting my curls against the curl. If I were just looking for a salon I would give it a 4 or 5. Since they market themselves as good with curly hair I have to disagree. I walked out with a puff of hair and my curls were very unhappy. read more

The first time I had a bleach/tone not end up exactly how I typically like (from a different salon) and Tanner fixed it wonderfully! She was incredibly sweet and knowledgeable. Second time: I recently got a sew-in at a different salon, by the time it was done I was almost near tears: it looked awful and I had paid $400. I left that salon looking like I was wearing a bad wig. Vasuda fit me in for a consultation that same night with Rhayne and he was amazing. Not only was he willing to help me that exact night (mind you this is when the shop is practically closed) but he assured me everything would be fine and stopped my silly tears. He fixed everything: showed me how to part my new hair so it didn't look like a cheap wig, gave me a great cut that looked more natural, and gave me a few styling tips for the wedding I was going to be in that weekend. I couldn't have been happier. His attitude of "we will get you through this and you are going to look great" was exactly what I needed and I will definitely be going back to him! I first had the pleasure of visiting Vasuda Salon in 2005 when its home was in Minneapolis. The experience literally revolutionized the way I take care of my natural, textured, curly hair and life has never been the same! I have since relocated to LA, while Vasuda has since relocated to Seattle. The wonderful experience I had at Vasuda set the bar so high that I have found no other salon to compare. So... when I had an opportunity to fly up to Seattle from LA earlier this year, you had better believe the first thing I did was book an appointment at Vasuda! I was later informed that some of Emmet's former clients actually travel all the way from Minnesota to see him. I completely understand why. Seattleites: I envy you! Here's why I'm sold on Vasuda: Customer service - Whenever I have questions, the Vasuda team goes above and beyond to explain their products and services. My hair is textured and curly - that means I need A LOT of support and direction from a stylist. Even when I contact the salon with a random question from miles away, the team at Vasuda always takes the time and care to walk me through the best solution. I can have confidence in anyone who will take that much care in addressing my questions and concerns. No pressure - During my recent appointment, I ended up choosing a more conservative and less expensive hair treatment option that I had originally scheduled. I never felt pressured to do something I wasn't up for. As a matter of fact, when I asked that my hair be dyed, Emmet said he was thinking of recommending that, but said that he didn't want to overwhelm me with services. Who says that?! A++ for client-focused service that is not just about the bottom dollar. Product Recommendations - I always leave Vasuda with great, quality products/hair appliances etc. that allow my hair to be the best it can be. Knowledge base - Emmet knows his stuff! My stylist at Vasuda Salon is the owner, Emmett, and he is the best stylist I've had by far. I've been to quite a few stylists over the years and what I appreciate most about Emmett is that he is so knowledgeable about hair care and willing to teach his clients as well. He is great at explaining the complexities of different hair types and how hair products work with your hair. I have learned so much from him and can now explain why the bottles and bottles of hair products in my bathroom cabinets have not produced the results I desired. I am an African American woman with naturally wavy hair type and wanted to be able to get a long-lasting straight look without a chemical relaxer. Emmett recommended that I try Keratin treatments and I have been getting them for the past few years. My hair has been so healthy and strong and I'm able to go 3-4 months in between treatments. As a professional football cheerleader, it is very important to have hair that can stay smooth and endure all of the sweat from dancing. Emmett keeps my hair luscious and full of body, and most importantly ,healthy! I recommend anyone looking for an outstanding stylist to book a consultation with Emmett. Not a fan. Vasuda and I started off on the wrong foot, and it only got worse. I ended up here because I followed a stylist from a different salon that was closing. I scheduled my first appointment with the manager. On the day of my appointment, I realized I had never received a confirmation call, which is pretty customary. I called before I left that morning, and sure enough, I wasn't in the books. The receptionist offered to put me in with another stylist and since I had a very busy schedule, I agreed. Luckily, my original stylist got wind of the situation, and showed up for my appointment. At the end of that cut, I booked my next appointment. A couple days before that appointment, I had to call to change the time/date. Guess what? I wasn't in the books again. The receptionist put me in the schedule for the new future date, and promised I'd received an email confirmation. I never did. But...the day before the appointment, I did receive a confirmation voicemail--only apparently I was seeing a new stylist. I called back to ask why I wasn't with my original stylist, and was told she was no longer with the salon. That's terrible customer service on so many levels. I shouldn't have to call to confirm my own appointments. And I should've been notified in advance that I'd be seeing someone new, or had been given the opportunity to have a consultation to figure out the right new stylist. I didn't find it to be a comfortable place. The receptionist and a couple of other (male) stylists were the only friendly people that worked here. Many of the women acted extremely snooty. Not to mention, it's incredibly tacky to talk about your co-workers behind their backs in front of your customers, Vasuda. I'll never go back. read more

Let first say that this is my 2nd visit to Vasuda and both visits have been really great. My last visit was with Linda and she did a really amazing job with my cut and color. I had a really strong red in my hair and she was able to get it all out and give me blonde highlights. I had a vague idea of what I wanted and I ended up with a better cut and color than what I had imagined. The only reason why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is that I had a lot of color correction done, and it would have been nice to know the extra cost before hand (as it was substantial). Also, she ran through my tight curls dry with a brush and it caused some knots on the ends. That being said, I'll definitely go back again. It's great hair. read more
