Do not take your pet here! For starters price gouging. Their rates r above the national average. Took my dog in and she was diagnosed with cancer they prescribed prednisone to treat her. Started her off on one dose a day. Went back in and the vet taking the others place told us to up it to 2 a day Big mistake! She was dead within just over a week. On our last visit there they had the nerve to peddle their care club card to help with future payments. Knowing I would be locked into paying them for a yr. Knowing she didn't have a yr! VCA is owned by the mars candy company, a giant cooperation that sees your pet as a number. read more

Dr. McCurdy was wonderful with my cat George. George is a large cat and usually afraid of strangers, but Dr. McCurdy was patient and kind and checked him head to tail. And Kristie was very helpful explaining everything. 12 Mile might cost a bit more than other places, but the care is top of the line and I'm very happy taking George there. They really care about their patients and the owners. And it's important to note they did NOT try to upsell me anything. That would have been a deal breaker for me. Too many vet clinics do that and I will not go to them. But I had great service at 12 Mile and George and I are pleased. read more

I have no ill will against the doctors and support staff at 12 mile, but VCA has a business model like Jiffy Lube or a used car dealership. They are constantly in up sell mode. "Your dog's a little overweight, should buy this expensive food", "you need this treatment", "you need this test", "here- we'll put you on a delivery schedule with an automatic recurring payment for your pet's meds", "your dog really needs a tranquilizer while we stress her out.... Was just cuddling with my handsome orange cat before heading to work. It's been almost a year since he had one of his eyes removed following a tumor diagnosis. The care, compassion, support, and follow-up from the staff here is truly unparalleled. I'm always grateful when I look at him that I got more time with him. I had a horrible experience at another vet clinic. I decided to try Vca 12 mile out when I got my puppy ( 2 1/2 years ago) . Dr. Terry White started at the clinic. He made me and my pup feel comfortable. He doesn't push anything on me and always supports my decisions. He always takes his time with us. He gets me in immediately when my girl has an issue ( which is often), and always calls to follow up on how my girl is doing. The front office staff is fantastic and the techs are amazing! Our 11-yr-old yellow lab had a seizure greeting me when I got home. She also excreted a vial-smelling liquid from her anal glands at the same time. I had considered VCA my go-to vet for our dog until now. They wouldn't even take two minutes to speak with us about what happened: "We don't take emergencies." The receptionist told me. Instead, she told us to drive another 4+ miles to the pet hospital. At least there, they sent out a tech and calmed me down, saying that she probably had a seizure and that we should keep an eye on her and get her in if she has another one. I will NOT be going back to VCA ever again! They don't care about your animals.... Just about the almighty dollar!!!! read more

I'm only giving this place a 1 star because of the way they treated us! Got an appointment for my 1 year old Cocker Spaniel to check on his bladder. He has been urinating in the house and was told to get that checked first. 2 hours later sitting in the car waiting for them to bring out my dog, was told he has a high ph and it could be a start of crystals which can cause a urinary track infection. When they brought out the medicine, there was no explanation to why he has this or any advice on what we can do! No one could answer my questions about it except for Dr. White. He left me a voice message later saying to call him anytime if I need anything. Well I called the next day which he wasn't available and the receptionist said I'll let him know. Never called back that day. Next day, I called again, the receptionist said he's in and I will give him your message with your questions for him. She said he'll call back. The receptionist called back and told me that Dr. White left for the day and to do a phone conference 2 days later with him! It would be an office visit charge! I just wanted my questions answered but nobody was able to do that and now I'm looking at waiting 4 days to be able to talk to him and pay another 65.00! He was just in when I called but left for the day and didn't take the time to return my call! I feel you can't get any answers from the doctor unless you pay more money and when it's convenient for them! Follow up appointments shouldn't cost anything and it feels like it's so hard to talk to a vet! It just didn't sit right with me! I will find another place that has compassion and willing to work with the patient! read more

We've been taking our pets here for years. I can't say enough wonderful things about the staff, the doctors and the care we've received. All of the doctors are wonderful, and Dr. Decker has just been the most amazing that we've ever had. Friends and family both go here and we always say to each other that we wouldn't take our animals anywhere else. We've had to make that hard decision when it's time for an animal to move on to a better place, and the sensitivity of the staff from beginning all the way to the end of the process has been absolutely incredible. Very pleased and happy with the care that VCA 12 mile in Gresham gave our brand new puppy of just 10 weeks today! Tried to get her in to several vets and even our home vet couldn't see her! Dr. Terry White also didn't have an opening, but he agreed to fit her in today between appointments! I brought my dog willow in to establish care at a hospital closer to home as she had officially hit her senior years. We were definitely not disappointed. Savannah was our tech and was professional and friendly. She was informative and thorough. Dr. Kennard was our dr and was exceptional as well. As a worried pet mom I'm always full of questions so I can make sure we're always doing the right thing for our pup. He took the time to answer any questions and educate us on the best plan for willow. The best part was our shy girl warmed right up at this office. She's usually terrified of the vet since she's had past experiences with surgery's and I think associates that fear with the vet office. She was walking around the room, accepting cookies and not hiding under my feet like usual. We're so happy to have found 12 mile VCA. We also received an awesome new patient bag with a sample of flea/heart worm Tx and a bag of high protein dog food. I called on a Monday with concerns of my dog panting excessively at night and recent wait gain. Was assured they could work us in the following day, drop off and leave my dog then they would do an exam and labs and then pick him back up: no phone call the next day about bringing him in. Called Wednesday to inquire. Gal told me they considered this super urgent to go to an emergency vet. Voiced frustration that no one called about this and was assured that would try to work him in. She said well we're too booked and we can't. Did not seem to care at all. Will never take any of my pets back here they are very insensitive and don't follow up. read more

I'm really bummed about my experience here. We adopted a kitten from the humane society and we were told that we would receive a free wellness exam as part of his adoption fees. This clinic reached out to us to get that appointment set up. When we showed up for the appointment they did a quick exam and told us that our kitten would need to wait a little while longer to get his next booster vaccines, but that we could drop in and get those in a week. We scheduled an appointment for a week and a half later. When I called the clinic to get an estimate of how much the booster vaccines would be, they informed me that I would have to pay $75 for another exam in order to have the vaccines administered (total cost for exam and vaccines was going to be $150) I asked them why we would need another exam when he was seen by them for an exam a week and a half ago, to which they stated that they will not administer vaccines without an exam. I followed up by asking why I wasn't informed when I scheduled my initial appointment that the vaccines would not yet be due (they had received the vaccination records from the humane society). The receptionist told me that it was not their responsibility to keep track of that. When I asked her to cancel my appointment she stated that she would just deactivate my account. read more

I've been taking both my animals to this clinic for several years and up until recently have had a decent experience. Lately however the staff have been very unhelpful and not at all knowledgeable. My dog has severe anxiety and I wanted to get a light sedative for her for the 4th of July and because I hadn't brought her in since Feb they refused to prescribe anything for her unless I paid $50 for an office visit! They just brushed me off and told me to put her in a dark room...not a helpful answer for a dog with SEVERE anxiety. I will not be bringing my animals back here. read more

This place is the worst I took my 11 year old dog in there for throwing up and they gave him a shot and told me it was safe to go home he should stop throwing up and begin eating again within a few hours that the only side effect the shot has is That it will make him tired and when we got home that's all it was he was sleeping I went to take him to the bed last night only to find out that he had passed away he died laying on the sofa with his favorite toy I had to go get him cremated today and why because they lied to me I am going to miss my dog so much he was my support dog he was my baby my everything They charged 58 dollars for a shot and in my heart if he was really that sick then the vet should have known and told us the truth they were only looking for the money I will never go there again I can't even drive past there now if he was honest and told us that he was that sick and thought that it was towards the end then we could have been ready no they didn't do that he said it was the dog flu and the shot will help and when I picked my baby up to go to bed last night he was gone and today my whole family is hurting and crying and my family won't be the same we miss him I HATE THIS VET I HOPE THEY GET SHUT DOWN they killed my dog nothing they can ever do or say will ever bring him back don't go here go to stark street animal clinic they really care about the animals not the money read more

This office has by far been the most compassionate and welcoming office I have been two. My partner and I have one cat we have to take pretty regularly for allergy related issues and I have had two sickly cats Dr. White has helped me with. Dr. White is extremely empathetic, kind and gentle with the animals. He lays out all of our options and gives realistic outcomes of all. He has also walked me through a couple of things over the phone. I would recommend this clinic to everyone and to see Dr. White specifically. This is a great location with a great staff. read more

We made our first visit to 12-Mile Animal Hospital this past Saturday to get my kitty I just adopted check out. Everyone was friendly and my daughter and I both loved Kelly the Dr's assistant was wonderful and we felt she handled our kitty very well. We saw Dr. Alyson Mitchel and again were very happy with how she spoke to us and handled Carmell. We are new in the Gresham area and got the name of the clinic from the list of VCA Vet's in the area from OHS. Very happy and will return to this clinic. read more

My dog got bit this summer by a Rottweiler in a dog kennel. He almost died. These folks helped a lot with the after service and we put him in their facility for 2 weeks. They are one of the few VCA animal hospitals that can board pets longer than a night or two. Their attitude and service is top notch. They called regularly with updates and took great care of Chili. They went out of their way to inform me of problems and of their strategies to improve his healing process. I would recommend them highly, for pet owners who want the highest standards of pet care. read more

First time going to this clinic, came in for just a simple annual wellness check but sadly don't think I will return. The doctor was friendly to both my cat and I but all the techs I came into contact with were really unfriendly. The one who called us back from the waiting room and who did an initial exam of my cat was really not nice to either one of us. When we got into the exam room we went over some records where she cast me a few condescending questions which were followed up with an "I doubt that" when I had all the papers to prove otherwise. She then criticized my handwriting and also never let my cat smell her or the room before trying to man handle him and take his temp. Like let my cat smell you for a hot second before you try to literally stick something up his arse. And when he rightfully rejected that act and hissed (he is part maine coon and very very vocal anyway) she backed away and said that he needed to be isolated from me where they can perform the rest of the exam out of my view because he was being aggressive. Mind you this was not a gnarly hiss, some cats look down right crazy mean when they hiss but he was just mildly annoyed after she grabbed him without saying hello to shove a metal thing up his butt. He wasn't pawing or scratching or moving his body at all either, just making noise. And when he isn't being poked and prodded, he's a totally chill friendly man cat who isn't aggressive at all. But most animals get stressed when visiting the vet, mine no more than others so I thought it was strange and frankly out of the question that the lady wanted to take him away to a room full of people he doesn't know to have an exam happen where I can't be physically present to ask/answer questions or help them read his body language. Plus my fur child is not going to go with a person who clearly doesn't care about us either way to be subjected to whatever she wanted to do out of my view. So when I politely declined this, she argued slightly with me about how my reasoning wasn't valid, left the room later to be replaced by the doctor, who was really nice, and a different tech who didn't say a word. Never saw her again after that and my cat finished out the exam with no big hiccups. The techs behavior was entirely unprofessional. Maybe she was strictly a dog person, which is totally fine I love dogs/all animals but why work at a vet office if you are going to be mean to not only me but my feline friend like that. Overall, the place wasn't very cat friendly with how the exam rooms were set up, the scales they had in use, etc. I wouldn't recommend this place if you have a cat and felt like I needed to apologize to mine after the ordeal. read more

The folks at 12-Mile Animal Hospital are the best. I recently brought a stray cat into the clinic to see if it had a chip. The staff there was very friendly and genuinely concerned about the stray and were more than eager to help. Thankfully the kitty had a chip and that is where rock star Lisa stepped in. Lisa placed a call to the company that does the tracking for the chips. She said that she was #12 in queue and that it might take a while. She offered to stay on the line and see it through. She did NOT say that she would try back later when the line was shorter, which is what I would expect from someone at the front desk of a busy clinic. No, Lisa hung in there and saw it through. She got a message to the owner and gave them my contact info. Later that night, the kitty, Lola, was re-united with her owner after being lost for over 2 years!!! On Friday, April 8, my nearly 17-year-old fluffy cat son, Luke, suffered two huge seizures. This animal hospital was near where I am living with my brother due to being unemployed, and he had gotten brochures about it for me as a resource. They were kind enough to fit me in that afternoon and Dr. Kennard examined my boy. I was devastated of course, and I was shown a lot of compassion for my unemployment situation and not being able to spend much money, and Luke was treated respectfully. Treatment options, the pros and cons, were discussed and I decided to give Luke another day to see if he would recover from the seizures. By the next morning, April 9, he could barely walk, wouldn't eat, couldn't toilet himself, so I made the painful decision to take him back to VCA and have him put to sleep. They have a room where euthanasia is carried out and I was with my boy the whole time. The rates for the Friday exam and the procedure the next day, I thought were very reasonable. I was able to pay for the procedure (the vet tech took my credit card out to the reception desk and had them run it) while in the room rather than having to go out to the counter afterwards, which would have been agony. That gesture is something I have not experienced (I have been through this before). All of this to say how well I was treated, in my state of anguish. Luke has a twin, Han, and I won't hesitate to take him to VCA 12-Mile if need be. read more

We just brought our recently adopted dog in for a health exam. When I called to schedule the appointment, the receptionist was very kind and helpful. When my girlfriend brought him in for the visit, the veterinarian basically read the health paperwork off that we brought in with us and continued to tell us everything that we already knew. He spoke to my girlfriend like she was a 4 year old who had just found a puppy (that just happened to come with all of it's paperwork). To put a cherry on top, the vet continued to call our male dog a she and her... If you can't tell the sex of an animal, you probably shouldn't be examining them. Thank you for nothing, we will definitely be doing some searching for a different veterinarian. read more

I've been going here since 1990. They are a full service vet which is expensive for the routine vaccinations and med prescriptions. Often they require lab work before issuing a prescription. However for the major surgeries, I've found them to be cautious, lets try these steps, lets wait & use alternatives before rushing to surgery. And they are there w/ daily calls for the recoveries. So overall I think it saves me $ to follow their preventative med steps. Several different vets are at this clinic and we've had pets that prefer one over another, but I like them all. They genuinely care about animals. Vets have given up their lunch hour for one of my emergencies, they have called afterhours and suggested I bring the pet back for more fluids while they waited for me...on a holiday! Yes, it is difficult to pay for vet care, but I feel it is good care here. read more
