I am devastated by what happened to my cat after his visit to VCA Cabrera Animal Hospital. I brought my cat, to this hospital for an examination and a Solensia injection. He was able to walk when he arrived at the hospital. After returning home from this appointment, he was unable to stand or walk and was dragging his hind legs. Because of the sudden and dramatic change in his condition, I took him to an emergency hospital, where X-rays revealed multiple pelvic fractures. The independent radiology report specifically states that the fracture involving the left acetabulum has "sharp margins that are very likely recent" and that the other fractures involving the left ischium and likely the left pubis are "likely associated with recent trauma as well." The radiologist further concluded that these pelvic fractures are likely responsible for his current clinical signs. My cat is now unable to walk independently. He requires pain medication, strict confinement and assistance with basic needs, and I am having to pursue additional veterinary and orthopedic care. I am extremely concerned about what occurred during his examination and handling at this hospital. A cat who walked into the clinic came home unable to stand, and an emergency evaluation immediately afterward documented multiple fractures considered very likely recent. This has been an incredibly distressing experience, and I believe other pet owners should be aware of what happened to my cat. read more

After adopting my puppy from a humane society last year, I was given paperwork regarding all of South Florida's VCA locations to do the complimentary 14-day follow up care. So, within 14 days, I made an appointment with Gladys over the phone and was able to get my dog seen really quickly. The check-in process was pretty easy. I gave Gladys all the paperwork from the humane society for her to make copies of and I filled out some forms. During the check up, an employee asked me some questions about my dog and then Dr. V. did his exam. She was very professional, friendly, and kind. My dog struggled with the fecal exam, so Dr. V. distracted him by pointing to another dog in the lobby, and then did the exam quickly. She definitely has great tricks to get the dogs checked out. They even have free treats for dogs any size. Even though it was towards the end of their closing time, the staff members were still patient and nice. They recommended the ComboGuard for the heart worms and flea preventtion, which I wasn't sure about yet because I wanted to do more research, and they were understanding, not pushy about it. I appreciated that they did not try to push or force certain products, because it seemed more genuine, not because they want to get kickbacks or something. After the appointment was done, Gladys gave me a folder with their paperwork and a bag of goodies for my dog including a bag of dog kibbles from The Hills. The next day, Dr. V. messaged me about my dog's fecal exam result. I was surprised on how efficient they were. I thought that animal hospitals or clinics would be sort of run-down and eerie, but VCA Cabrera was actually the opposite! Their facility is well-kept, organized, clean, and welcoming. They even have complimentary bottled waters, tea, and coffee in the waiting area. I later went back to VCA Cabrera another day to get my dog vaccinated for boarding and Gladys told me that he already got the vaccine after looking at the records. I am thankful that she was honest and helpful. I had great experiences with this animal hospital so far and am relieved that I won't have to worry about my dog being in the wrong hands or being at a facility with uncaring staff. Lastly, parking was plenty, and the office hours are open til the evening, which is convenient for people who work on the weekdays 9-5 type of jobs. read more

Stray cats abound in my neighborhood but one particular morning, I came across a kitty that needed a little help. Besides being super small and alone, I noticed she didn't have control over her back legs. I wanted to take her to a vet and VCA Cabrera is pretty close to my house. I showed up on a Friday morning and was able to be seen pretty quickly. Both the vet and the assistant worked hard to get her in tip top shape, giving her a bath (and adorable Christmas sweater!), X-ray, and food. While it was clear she was going to need a lot more medical attention since her back legs weren't responsive, they let me know what to do in the meantime while I searched for a forever home. I'm happy to say this little girl found a loving home not too long after getting her checked out here! It's nice to know I have VCA Cabrera so close, should other animal emergencies arise. read more

I have been bringing my 2 cats to this vet for the last 4 years. A few weeks ago, my beloved housecat, Arlo was behaving strangely & seemed to not be using his litter box properly. I called the vet the following morning and was told that although they were completely booked, I could bring him in for Dr. Mark to evaluate. Some tests were run, including an xray but nothing was conclusive. Being it was memorial werkend, Dr. Mark emailed me his xray in case i would need to take him to an emergency clinic if he did not improve so i wouldn't have to incur the cost again. Luckily, he seemed fine & back to normal. Fast forward to Tuesday night. My normally loving & docile cat was screeching & growling in what i could only imagine was severe pain. After a sleepless night, I contacted the hospital as soon as they opened & was again told to bring him in. Dr. Mark again examined him & this time, it was discovered that he had a massive uti plus a urinary blockage, they immediately took him back for treatment and 3 days later, i'll be picking him up. I was able to go visit him yesterday & although Dr. Mark was on vacation, he left Arlo in the very best care with Dr. Valentina. I cannot thank EVERYONE at this clinic enough for saving my baby boy! As worried as I have been these past few days, the fact that they have been so communicative the whole time (calling me back, texting updates, even sending adorable pictures of Arlo's progress) really calmed my mind & made a devastating situation so much better! What makes this vet so different from others is that you can absolutely tell that they are all true animal lovers! From welcoming the pets (with appointments) by name on a colorful sign in waiting room (pre-covid, of course), to Yesenia & Gladys who answer the phone, to Barbie, a veterinary assistant, to Cristina, the office manager & of course Drs. Mark & Valentina, everyone is so kind, sweet & empathetic. Truly a pleasure dealing with such wonderful people who care about taking care of your animals as if they were their very own. This is my go to veterinary spot. I bring my precious Pomeranian here for all of her wellness and emergency needs. My little fur one is rambunkshus and has kept me on my toes from the moment I got her 8 years ago. I have needed VCA Cabrera to help me in yearly routine matters to when she jumped off the bed at 5 months and needed a distal radial repair. Of which , I can not recommend Dr. Cabrera more-my pup fully recovered without any issues. Dr. Valentin is a sweetheart with the pups, very patient and loving. Dr.Mark is very knowledgeable of proper canine care to ensure a long happy longevity of your fur baby. The staff is very sweet with the pups helping ease their anxieties. He personally called me to tell me it was lies and basically asked me how would I like it if he called my husbands company (by name) and told the owners (by name) with lies about him. I took my review down out of diplomacy. As soon as this happens a five star faceless no profile review pops up. I am compelled to rewrite my review. *He told me there was nothing to do, my dog could only be kept comfortable until he died of lymphoma. He gave him one month to live. *I was verbally mistreated by his staff on a day he wasnt there, I went to pick up more prednisone to keep my pup comfortable (he only gave me enough for 2 weeks) the substitute vet said she would report the incident. It wasn't reported, and my appointment never showed up in his records, so he figured I was lying about the incident. *There was a puddle of dog urine in the waiting room on my last visit. It wasn't from my dog. After all of this I took my dog elsewhere, they treated him. He lived 14 more months and did incredibly well on Chemo. I have records of all visits to both vets. read more

We were treated in a very insensitive manner considering we were going through a very rough time with our ailing dog. After the dismal service and getting a prognosis of less a month survival rate for our dog we went somewhere else for treatment. Our dog lived over a year longer while we encountered humane and sensitive behavior elsewhere. read more

Amazing staff and service! My Maltese, Marshmallow, is treated like family here! We had a dog scratch my dog's eye, and called the office. They told me to come in right away, and kept reassuring me that they had the means to treat any accident, and she woild be fine. I had to unfortunately euthanize my 18 yr old cat Miso. The professional staff and Dr. Valentín were unbelievably kind and sympathetic. They were respectful and thoughtful in this difficult and painful experience, understanding the loss of a loved family member and life companion. I went to VCA Cabrera because I needed a second opinion on my 10 year old beagle. My senior dog had a torn CCL and his other leg was showing issues too. There were more complications beyond his legs and he ended up having a pneumonia. Dr. Mark was and Dr. Valentin were wonderful, attentive and caring. Dr. Mark and Dr. Valentin would talk to me every time I called. The techs and the staff made every effort to accommodate me and my baby. However underlying issues got worst and my little boy did not make it. It has been a tough week and I have received many condolences but the one that meant the world to me was the card I received in the mail signed by the entire staff. This personal touch for a dog that was there only a week was super special. I know that I will get an another dog and I know where I am going to take him/her for his health care. My pet Ziggy suddenly stopped walking shortly after many closures due to Covid 19 around late March. I called many places and it wasn't until I spoke to a front desk person at VCA Hospital that I felt I saw a light at the end of the tunnel. They took him in same day. When I arrived, they met me outside and took him in. All wearing PPE. I had never taken ziggy to a VCA and I was nervous because he was a COMPLETELY new patient with a scary condition, plus I could not go inside with him. Needless to say I was very impressed, they told me what was wrong with him, consulted over the phone while I waited in the car. The bill was reasonable and they were super loving to Ziggy. They have received loving and very professional attention. I wish to call the reader's attention to Dr. Valentin, an experienced and well-informed veterinarian. Lately, we have been dealing with a four pound 20-year-old cat. For some reason, my pet presented severe respiratory problems, weakness, lack of appetite, and disorientation. She walked with difficulty. Dr. Valentin is always willing to listen to non-experts that have some research but is surprising coming up with practical solutions to problems. I have been bringing my dogs to this vet for years. Always happy. My 13-15 year old rescue , that VCA has done eye surgery on and taken care for at least 6-7 years fell ill over the weekend. Monday called them to say my puppylicious is having issues eating and has not eaten in 24 hours and has barely taken in any water. There response," We are completely booked , sorry." I explained it doesn't look good and I don't want to take him to a stranger. There response, " I am sorry, both doctors are completely booked. So, I pretty much never review anything, but I'm hoping this review will help someone, going through something similar to that which I just went through, find an extraordinarily caring vet. My angel, Paris, a sweet 10 ye old King Charles Cavalier, became sick a few months back. The vet who had tended to her initially tried a few different medications and ran an ultrasound, but came back pretty empty handed as Paris' symptoms progressively worsened. This vet was not really giving the issue much importance, so I decided to get Paris seen by a well-known vet in town, that works at one of these 24 hour emergency clinics (name not worth mentioning; all these 24 hour facilities are the same). Paris was seen by him and by about five other vets at that facility in the month and a half she was treated by them. She was hospitalized there at one point and had all sorts of tests performed (ultrasounds, echocardiograms, CT scans, etc.), but no one could figure out what was wrong with her. Her condition continued deteriorating. The worst part about it all was the constant feeling that none of these vets seemed to really care. It seemed as though Paris was just another number to them, one more patient. And Lord forbid you politely questioned or complained about anything. It was just so frustrating and hurtful to go through, specially while Paris' condition just worsened by the day. As things were quickly going south with Paris, a good friend mentioned VCA Cabrera and Dr. Valentin. I was desperate and would try anything to cure Paris, so even though they were not a 24 hr facility (which I thought Paris could potentially need at some point given her worsening condition), I switched her over. During my first visit with Dr. Valentin, she greeted me with a hand-written list of every condition that Paris had been diagnosed with (it was quite the list). Wait, a vet that actually took the time to review Paris' file prior to coming in the exam room? And, trust me, by the time Paris made her way to Dr. Valentin, it was a lengthy file full of all sorts of labs, reports and images. I was instantly impressed. Every other vet prior to Dr. Valentin would have a tech enter the room to ask some general questions, then come in for a few minutes, hear my summary of Paris' illness, give me an idea of what they thought it could be and just prescribe more medications and treatment plans, and next! With Dr. Valentin, it was different. You could tell this women genuinely wanted to figure this thing out and help us. Paris was under Dr. Valentin's care for about 2 weeks before she passed. And I can honestly say, I have never met any other vet like her. She treated Paris as her own, and kept me informed every step of the way. Paris' case was so complex, but Dr. Valentin was relentless in trying to cure her. Paris' condition took a turn for the worse this Sunday, when she suffered what appeared to be a seizure or stroke and had to be transferred back to another one of these crappy 24 hour emergency clinics. Dr. Valentin was with me every step of the way, on a Sunday (her day off). She prepared medical records from home, emailed them to two different facilities and spoke to the ER doctors at nearly 9pm. She then maintained contact with me well into the night. She continued this open line of communication throughout the entire time Paris was there. Sadly, Paris passed away last night. My only regret was not finding Dr. Valentin sooner. Paris' case was just too far along and complicated by the time we made it to Dr. Valentin. I, however, will be eternally grateful to her and her team for all they did for my sweet Paris. read more

Dr. Cabrera is a wonderful doctor. Great customer service from everyone. And this isn't just because of the great outcome, they really do have great customer service. I had taken my Golder Retriever, Lady to another specialist who gave me a horrible diagnosis- a bilateral ablation- meaning they would need to take both her ear drums out leaving her completely deaf. However, I decided to take her to Dr. Cabrera who treated her with intensive medication for 2 weeks and gave me wonderful news: No Surgery! All she needs now is a deep ear cleaning and monitoring. So, if you have a dog with ear flaps, make sure to keep their ears as dry as possible to prevent infections. read more

I have been going to Cabrera for 10 years now, and this location since Friday. I have no complaints on them. They are very attentive and care for the animals. You can do appointments of walk in. They call you in by the dogs name which I think is cute. They answer all you question and you can call them and ask more question. They have a full service hospital so its good for any emergency you may have with your pet. The prices are a little expensive but the quality and service is exceptional. You pay for what you get. My Maltese has been a regular at Cabrera's since there previous location. So now I took my pug puppy in for puppy shot and to check a spot on her eyes. She was a little nervous at first but as soon as they showed her a cookie she was willing to be stabbed with a needle and have her eye check out. Luckily everything was fine and she is in good hands. When we were leaving she wanted to stay. It was the cookies....... I'm very happy with my choice of vet and wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Annoyed as hell, I rescheduled for the next day. Wasted my trip because employees lack of interest in customer service; no one advised me or gave me better options for my appointment. I think I speak for all new clients through this review; people like to be informed, it shows that you value their time. I was referred to Dr. Valentin and could not be happier. I have 2 dogs, one she has seen as a sick patient and the other on a Well Checkup. Both times, I have been truly satisfied with the outcome of the visit. She came in, addressed me AND the dog. (that is very important as I am not the patient, he is). I have an 8 year-old Yorkie that I have adopted who I feel has potential but had some aggressive tendencies. I have been working with him for over a year and have made excellent progress but could not get past the excessive barking and attacks, should I take him out and about. I went to see her for his annual and she told me, let him run around, don't worry about him. He's in an unusual place and there are a lot of noises happening. Anything he did, she talked to me about, showing me that he has anxiety about being out of the house and showed me how to help bring him down to stop the barking. She talked to me like a friend and gave me a lot of pointers and showed me how to help him. Then, Dr. Valentin and the nurse then did his shots WITHOUT a muzzle or him trying to bite them. (Last year, he was muzzled as he did bite another Dr.) She proved that he can be persuaded with food so treats will be our best friend while we train. I always felt he has anxiety and she confirmed it and gave me the info to a Dr who specializes in behavior issues. We are working on finding his "trigger" so we can turn him into a Social Butter-pup so I can take him on runs with me. I've been coming to this veterinarian's office for about a year with my Yorkie puppy and do not have one single complaint. The quality of service here is fantastic. Every single time that I bring Lily (my dog) to the vet's office, the next day I get a follow-up phone call to make sure everything is okay. That type of service is tough to find. Lily was spayed here and she also had a growth removed from her head here. She also goes for shots, regular exams, etc. Dr. Mark is the vet that usually sees Lily. He is always great and patient and makes sure to answer every single question we have (and sometimes, there are at least 20 of them, lol) .
