Our dog passed away in their care during what was supposed to be a simple, routine teeth cleaning. Any procedure involving anesthesia is accompanied by risk; however, the death was a direct result of mismanagement by the veterinarian and a gross lack of oversight of inexperienced staff. The sudden and unexpected loss of our dog continues to resonate deeply with our family. It has made seeking trusted veterinary care for our surviving pets an emotionally challenging and painful experience, as we are forced to repeatedly reflect on a senseless loss in our attempts to avoid another. read more

My wife and I had a really bad experience at the hospital this morning. Refusing to treat us due to missing our first FREE appointment for a separate cat without giving us the option to pay for the second appointment if they wanted to treat as such, which we were more than happy to do. There was no explanation, no alternative, just "we can't". Felt very judgmental. read more

I'm late but wanted to ensure I had this review posted. from May 2024. I've been a VCA customer since 2005 for two dogs. We had always used VCA-Northern and I was always happy with them. In 2024 I received notification that VCA-Northern and VCA-Mountain View had merged and VCA-Northern was to be closed. OK, so I made my first appointment at VCA-Mountain View. Over the years, I've moved several times, but happy with VCA, so never changed offices. Seems like it's a long at 20+ miles, but that's OK if I'm happy with their service. On my way to the appointment, there was an accident and road blockage on I-17. As soon as I cleared the accident area, I called VCA-Mountain View to let them know I'd be a few minutes late. Lisa (real name) answered and asked me when I would arrive? I said my GPS says 11:11 for an 11:00 appt... "well we'll have to cancel you was her snippy reply. Didn't even offer a reschedule. I said I'm only a few miles away and headed there now; we're talking one minute... But oh-no... was told their "policy" was to cancel anyone over 10 minutes late. I repeated "it's one minute and I'm two miles away". Didn't matter to Lisa. I was cancelled. I guess I expected a little more, like I did at VCA-Northern... after spending thousands of $$$ over twenty years. And I didn't mind waiting with my dog every single time more than ten minutes. Gate guards like Lisa will lose your business every time. read more

I have been bringing my girls to see Dr. Ansems & her crew for many, many years. Top notch care & communication. I have had cats most of my life. I have 3 cats & had 1 super senior dog that I've brought in for one reason or another over the years. The care they've received is always compassionate, thoughtful, & comprehensive. I can't always afford all the suggested care, but they work with me to provide the best suggestions that I can afford.. I have only had great experiences working with the staff at VCA. They have treated my senior rescue pup with love and care. When my dog was diagnosed with a heart murmur & kidney problems, Dr. Thurman took the time to explain the diagnoses, review my options, and reassure me that I am giving my dog her best life. I couldn't have gotten through our baby girls diagnosis of cancer without the support of Dr. Ansems and the front staff (Lisa & Mary) at Mountain view clinic. Dr. Ansems listened and truly loves her patients and their owners. Now we have another dog that is causing us heartache and attacks my husband daily, I took him in and saw another Dr due to Dr. Ansems not being there for awhile, and sent me home and told me to follow-up with a behaviorist who has us scheduled in 4 months and didn't provide me with no follow-up appointment or no temporary solutions. We have become a prisoner in our own house living out of fear with a dog who randomly attacks and we feel lost. The shelter tells me there are no available appointments to return and would be simpler to wait the 4 months for behaviorist. What I would give to see Dr. Ansems for her guidance... read more

Had my dog, FruitLoop, in today for her dental. Dr. Ansems, Stacy, Spencer, Elvira, Desiree, & Mary all did a spectacular job taking care of my girl while she was there -- especially with her issues under anesthesia (we will be doing additional testing to determine an underlying cause). They were communicative, & made me feel at peace leaving her there, knowing she was in the best hands. Staff here is rude and disrespectful. Lisa at the front desk laughed off that I would have to wait 10-15 minutes. After I get there early for my 4:30pm appointment. I waited well over 15 minutes, no update or anything, then I took off, as I had been waiting outside at that point, as my dog gets very nervous and inpatient while going into the vet office. I was later called by the Vet Tech, Maryanne and she just asked in her monotone voice, where I was and that they were looking for Bella Bear, I shared with her my experience and she could honestly care less, just asked if I then wanted to cancel my appointment. I told her most definitely, I will never come back to this location. I loved the Vets here, but the service is terrible. read more

I've gone here for decades but something changed in their business model. They don't seem to care about client relationships as much as a financial gain. The last sick pet I brought there was a 17 year old cat for whom I was seeking comfort in his final days. They insisted he "had more life to give," put him on expensive meds and a prescription diet that he didn't care for. Kept text messaging me trying to get me to agree to his "long term care plan" which I insisted I needed time to see how he reacted to the meds. He got sicker in the next couple of weeks and ultimately died in my arms while sitting in the waiting room of the emergency vet. I couldn't fathom taking him back to Mountain View to have them try and profit on my dying old man. That was about a month ago. Just now I called because my dogs were exposed to ghiardia and both have diarrhea. They had no openings for 2 weeks. I said I could bring in a stool sample for testing. No, she said. They would need to see them in person. Read: a quick stool sample under a microscope isn't going to generate enough profit. So my dogs, who've been loyal patients there for more than a decade, were given zero loyalty or compassion in return. What's the point of have a decades-long veterinary relationship when they clearly don't have my pet's best interests in mind. (P.s. if anyone who used to go there remembers Dr. Walker, I can honestly say he was one of the kindest most gentle humans. It was an honor to have him as my pets' vet for so many years but he retired and the place is very different). read more

Wonderful Dr. Ansems is such a caring doctor, and their staff is just wonderful. I highly recommend this clinic.

We had been using this vet for a while but today was the last straw and we'll be using a different clinic from now on. Our dog squirms too much for a petsmart tech to clip her claws so we assumed a veterinarian would be able to do so no problem. We've taken her many times but each time we are told she was too anxious and needs sedative medication. Recently, each time we visit we are told we need stronger sedation in higher doses. Before I took her in today, she was given three different sedatives an hour before the appointment time. She was so sleepy she could barely walk with the bribe of treats. Over half an hour since her appointment was supposed to start after showing up early, she finally gets taken back. The tech tells us she didn't appear to be on any medication and if we bring her back for claws they will deny us service . They've been charging us like $50 per bottle for multiple medications, but apparently their own meds don't do anything. I genuinely don't understand how a vet and a tech or two struggles to clip the claws of a smaller dog on three different sedatives then gives attitude to the owners. We can get meds delivered somewhere else, the convenience of the location is far outweighed by their incompetence read more

Very unorganized and a money grab. Be sure to sort the ratings newest first for the most accurate ratings. I've only taken my dog to VCA locations but this one is far from the typical VCA experience. I've always felt welcomed and trusted VCA until now. My first and only appointment here I was asked to arrive early since the vet had to leave early. After arriving 30 minutes early, I was seen 20 minutes after my initial appointment time. I took their time into consideration and they did not do the same. During the exam, the vet did try to upsell/push a lot of unnecessary shots so just do your research as to what is actually needed before coming here. Since my first time visiting here, I've had many issues with the vet prescribing the yearly supply of my dog's medication. This has never been an issue with other vets. Eventually this was all worked out and the vet did write another prescription as promised initially, but I had to jump through many unnecessary hoops to make this happen. (How the prescriptions were written: 6 months, 30 days, 4 months. Not quite the yearly prescription as promised but close enough. Luckily we have some extras to get by) If you like to argue, this is the perfect place to take your pet! Aubrey, the receptionist, was very rude, combative, argumentative and unprofessional on the phone after I mentioned my concerns and requested my dog's remaining prescription. If the calls are recorded, I highly recommend management listens in on her calls to help train her. Aubrey is the main reason why I will not be coming back to this location. Sophia is the only redeeming quality of this location. She had my dog's remaining prescription filled very quickly. At the end of the day, everything worked out, but it did require much more work than other vets. You have to be on your toes to ensure they're not taking advantage of you and your money. Just be aware and smart when going here. I ended up calling another VCA for help after speaking with Aubrey since I felt lost. I want to give a huge shoutout to the VCA in Scottsdale for being willing to jump in and assist with my dog's medication if needed. They even said they would use the current blood work records from this location to fill the prescription after one of their vets gives my dog an exam. They made it a very simple process and put my dogs health and well-being first, unlike this location. read more

Our cats get nervous at the vet, but VCA does a great job in trying to calm them down and letting us know everything will be okay. Prices are very fair, and staff is AMAZING. read more

As a part of the veterinary community here in arizona I am ashamed to know they are considered part of it. The DVMs I've dealt with have been great but the support staff ruins everything for them. We recently moved to the area with our 2 pets, dachshund and Persian cat. Within 3 days our cat took a turn for the worst and was on his last day. I didn't know what to do. I called in home vets and didn't get a response after 5hrs (only 1 called back 12hrs after I made a decision) I decided to call this place holding back tears. They picked up the phone and told me to bring him in right away and they will make room for me. The entire staff was generous and took him back to be examined. Dr. Schultz gave us the option to treat him but told us it wasn't the wrong thing to put him down. We took him in because I didn't know if putting him down was right and Dr. Schultz was just amazing! It was my first time going through this and I can't imagine a facility and Doctor being better then this. They even sent a sympathy card which really touched my heart. When I picked up his ashes they actually saved the blanket I had him wrapped in. I thought for sure they were going to trash it. The entire staff there was just a set of angels. Thank you! read more

I brought my cat here back in July to have them look at her nail as there was something clearly wrong. I think she got injured when she was young so her nail was coming in sideways and growing into her pad and she was quite young when i first noticed and I was able to cut it back myself. I brought her in to have them look at it and trim it bc she is getting older and I'm disabled, not able to hold her and trim at the same time. They left her in the cage from 730AM until after close and had the nerve to call and ask my partner when they would be there to pick her up, with no contact at all throughout the day. We got absolutely no answers and they DID NOT even trim her nails, they literally put it on the paper that she should have her nails trimmed as if that's not why I booked the appointment? I paid 90$ to have my cat sit in a cage for 11 hours. It was a high stress environment as well and I know that because she's normally a pretty relaxed kitty and she wouldn't come out for 3 days after that. VERY poor experience. I have been coming to VCA off Mtn View & 7th St since 1999 through now 04/2017. The staff have both laughed w/ me & cried through 2 pets & are now there for me for my 3rd & 4th. I've been pretty fortunate to have healthy pets but do feel 3 VCA experiences are worth mentioning: 1.) Presley was a declawed Himalayan cat given to me by my ex's brother. He adopted her from Petsmart but she hid under his closet & wouldn't come out. She was abused & afraid of EVERYTHING! She became my cat b/c I was the only person she would allow to touch her. She was a sweet cat & took many years for her to allow any of my friends that see her. Presley was healthy but felt it important to take her in for a checkup. Like I said she would allow NO ONE to touch her or see her, if at all possible. I explained this to the staff before coming in. The min she saw Dr Walker she leaned in towards him & held on to him & purred. He couldn't hear her heart beat w/ all the purring & drooling. She was instantly comfortable w/ him & was 1 of 3 men she would allow to touch her during the 13yrs I had her until she died from kidney failure at the age of 18. 2.) Kodiak was my beautiful Siberian husky. She loved everyone, including the staff at VCA. She was a clown & made us all laugh & she made us all cry when she was 16 & it was time to make the difficult decision of what to do. Dr Walker treated her as if she was his own. He told me, if she was his, he'd let her go now vs doing more testing. Kodiak had already decided to stop eating & drinking water. Every test we ran said she was healthy, but to look at her we knew she wasn't. A visiting doctor said he seen this before in a dog that had pancreatic or stomach cancer. More testing would just had been more painful. The entire staff cried w/ me, including Dr Walker. They love their work & they love animals. This was obvious from the 1st time I met them in 1999. Now it's 2017 & I have my 3rd experience for you. 3.) Nanuq was given to me when she was a pup just a few months after Kodiak passed away. I wasn't ready for a new pup, but there she is so beautiful & all mine. When she was a year I had left her w/ a friend while I went on my honeymoon. Nanuq apparently played super rough w/ my friends dog I seemed to have gotten a concussion. I was on a cruise & they were unable to contact me. My friend knew which animal hospital I went so she took Nanuq to VCA. Having been a long time customer, VCA treated Nanuq w/out making my friend pay. This is HUGE! And more proof their primary concern is the health of my pets. Hopefully this review helps you to make a conscious decision to make VCA part of your pets lives. It means their health! Followed my long time vet to VCA. Loved the vet; disliked the VCA clinic. Called to bring my beloved dog in to be put down due to failing health. Was specific to state this to person who answered, who then put me on hold for 6 minutes. They then proceeded to quiz me for the specifics of what was wrong with my dog. Duh. I'm barely holding it together to answer when they say, 'We don't have any openings today but we can schedule later this week." What reputable vet does this? I've been down this road many times and have never been treated so poorly or been told they wouldn't help my pet that day. Of course we then took our dog to 1st Pet on 7th Ave & Union Hills and they couldn't be more caring and kind in such a heartbreaking time. I would never recommend VCA to anyone. The vet turnover rate is astounding. Don't take a chance by taking your pet to VCA. They are overrated and understaffed. I speak from experience. read more

Our Milli has some parasites in her digestive track from being in the shelter and they were able to diagnose and treat her in no time at all! I called them to get my dog in as soon as possible and if they could work with me on splitting up the cost of treatment as I just had back surgery and my partner is the only one working. They replied absolutely not, we demand payment up front. I get it they are in the business to make money but to treat a loyal customer the way we were treated I was absolutely shocked and dismayed by the lack of compassion or the understanding to help. I asked them if they knew any vet that would work with us and they replied with a resounding no vets don't do that. Ok so I am to let my dog suffer because of your lack of compassion??? Anyway long story short I found an absolute phenomenal vet that works with any financial situation. My dog has Valley Fever and has been treated by VCA Mountain View Animal Hospital. I set up a follow up appointment when they suggested so that I would know if we need to continue her medicine for valley fever and to ensure her liver is responding well. We went to the scheduled appointment, got the blood drawn, paid almost $400 and was told I would get a call with the results. Her medicine has run out and when I called today, six days after going to the appointment, I was told the results are in but that the vet is not, nor will she be for a few days, so I would have to wait. So nothing until one vet gets back because the other vets are busy. read more

Everyone I spoke with at this hospital was kind except for JESSICA. She treated me so poorly in the midst of me being worried about my sick animal that I had a mild anxiety attack yesterday. She called to confirm my appointment yesterday. I was quite alarmed that I would not be able to accompany my animal while it was seen at this hospital for the first time. I told her I would call her back in an hour to confirm my appointment if I felt comfortable and said bye. She then called my phone and left a message saying she cancelled my appointment. She did not have my permission to do that. I called back and spoke with Sophia whom is a sweet pea. She was very apologetic about how Jessica treated me. She also disclosed I still had my appointment. That means on top of being extremely rude and spiteful, Jessica also LIED. Jessica is very aggressive and bad-mannered. The attitude she has would make you think you're working for her, even though you're the customer. She speaks over others and does a subpar job at customer service at best. I let her know my animal may have an URI. Knowing my animal needs help and that many vets are booked, she refused to book an appointment today when I needed to reschedule. She told me to go somewhere else and hung up on me. This is the second day in a row she has treated me in an awful and upsetting manner. She clearly cares nothing about the reputation of VCA whom she is representing. She has a very abrupt, controlling nature that doesn't fit with the kind culture of this company. Was home during the week and noticed my cat start to limp around. I wanted to get him into a vet ASAP and VCA Mountain View was able to squeeze me in the SAME DAY! The staff was amazing and very friendly and the vet himself was very nice and helped explain everything. Not only did he check my cat for the limping but he also suggested a few changes to his diet to help with his fur and teeth. I will probably not take my cat anywhere else moving forward. My dog was yelping in pain - either twisted or jumped and hurt her front leg. It was at end of day - called VCA Mountain View Animal Hospital (which is 1-1/2 blocks away from our home) and they said it was too close to closing to see her. I had to ask for recommendation to where I could bring her they suggested emergency vet @ 40th and Cactus. This vet is amazing! I wish I remember the name of the veterinarian my dog, Ellie, saw but over all it was a great experience. I just adopted her a few days ago and took her here to get a check up. This vet was really easy to schedule an appointment with, and they were able to get us in a few days later. They are following covid guidelines so I felt safe dropping her off. The vet called me with her results and was really kind and took the time to explain everything and answer all my questions. I highly recommend going here. read more

This was my first time establishing a relationship with a vet, and I could not possibly be happier. The staff, all of them, are incredibly warm and patient. They listen and hear you out. We "adopted" an abandoned kitten and became increasingly concerned about her health. We took up VCA on their first vet visit exam free, and boy am I glad we did. This was our kitten's first experience with someone other than us and she put up a good attitude but, they put up with her, and she came out with a clean bill of health. They took their time with us and after hearing our concerns about finances even offered a free flea/tick/heartworm med. Now, our kitten is happy, healthy and we are equally as happy knowing that she is has been checked out. read more

I did not like his tone of voice and how he treated me like I was stupid. I felt as though the vet and vet tech did not have great attitudes nor did they seem to care or spend time with my dog. I got no explanation and he basically just sent me out the door with prescriptions.
