I brought my dog in because she had an allergic reaction. I was told to wait in my car while the evaluate her, and come up with a plan of action. I waited 45 minutes before the doctor called me to tell me her plan of action... mind you, I was the only customer at the time. Now 2.5 hours later, I am still waiting in the parking lot. I had to wait on hold for 30 minutes just to pay my bill... $280 for a Benadryl shot! ... still waiting for my dog to be discharged. The only thing good about our experience here was our surgeon, Dr. Smith. Do not have any complaints about her talents and knowledge. The problem is there is NO case manager handling your pet. We started out taking our dog in for her non stop urges to urinate. After several tests, it was discovered and recommended that surgery be performed to remove stones in her bladder. So we were led to believe this would take care of the problem. We spent about $8,000. Afterwards, there was zero improvement and we kept waiting for things to get better. Tried calling several times to the front desk to schedule calls with Dr. Smith but often she was busy and nobody really got back to us promptly. Finally, it was recommended after a lot of waiting/calls, etc. to perform more tests. So we spent another $1,500 on tests and requested a discount due to the first large sum we spent with zero results. They said NO, the price is what it is. At this point the internal medicine doctor was brought into the case to assess our pups issues with Dr. Smith. It was decided that we should have a meeting with both doctors together. Good luck doing that. You would think after all the money we spent they would make accommodations for this promptly. Not the case. We were told how busy they both are and that they were trying to coordinate something. We kept calling for updates and it was frustrating. We were patient before we started calling as we knew it would take some time to get back results. I called the front desk again and told the person who answered that my wife was crying all night not knowing if our dog was going to be okay and please have the doctor call me. Again, no call back after a lot of time passed so I called again and spoke to the same person who was amazed nobody got back to me. Shortly after, Dr. Smith called me and spent time with me on the phone explaining all the different tests/next steps for our dog. I requested a quote for the recommendations made by the two doctors and the cost of the tests that were between $10,000 and 11,000 with no guarantees they would still be able to determine what the problem was with our pup. Time to go somewhere else!!!! Hire case managers who can directly be involved in more extreme cases where follow-up is required, etc and provide better coordination to your customers. Be more sensitive to extreme cases where costs have piled up with zero results and make things better, even if you have to do things at lower margins! Big corporate companies are taking over operations like this where the mighty $ seems to matter most at the expense of some great doctors working for them. read more

SHAME ON YOU! I was just here last night (Sunday). My best friend had recently got an 8-week old puppy, and took her to get all her shots. The puppy was fine up until Sunday morning. My friend took her to VCA Orange County Veterinary in Tustin, as that is where she lives. She left her puppy there all-day to figure out what was going on. Well, half way through the day, we received a nightmare of a call stating her puppy would require $5,000.00 worth of testing to figure out what is going on with her. This price was in addition to the $600.00 she already paid (for injections we couldn't pronounce and antibiotics). However, the additional hefty price of $5,000.00 could not guaranty anything including the results/survival of the puppy. My friend was hysterical as she could not afford such a hefty price. She applied for Pet Care, which would only cover a $500.00 credit ($4,500 more still needed). My friend pleaded for some additional options including payment plans, and etc. The hospital was abrasive and rejected any further cooperation since my friend couldn't afford the full-price. Upon arrival, we waited 20-minutes to see the doctor and to clarify why they believed her puppy would be fatal and what they administered during her day long stay. While we waited, eventually an unorganized, frazzled receptionist and/or nurse approached us to say, the Doctor that had seen her puppy already clocked out for the day. She said the next Doctor available is making his rounds and it might be a lot longer to be seen. At that point, it was clear that we were no longer a priority of theirs. LONG STORY SHORT ... This place charges 100% more than they should and quotes people ridiculous prices! They don't care about you or your furry baby! Our doggo had to come here because of what we thought was a severe case of pancreatitis. From the moment we walked in the staff was very helpful and compassionate about our sick little girl. The ultrasound specialist actually stayed at work and waited for us to come in so she could examine our dog even though her shift was over. Unfortunately the results came back as pancreatic cancer and not pancreatitis. Because of the care that they gave her she was able to come home and go a couple more days and get showered with love and treats until the end. We also really appreciated their honesty and how upfront they were with the prognosis. They delivered the devastating news as compassionately as possible. They were direct with how long our doggo had left and we really appreciated them for it. read more

I took my dog to this vca 530 am on a Saturday because he hurt his back. I slept on the floor with him and I knew he wasn't comfortable through the night so I drove to the VCA..I cannot say enough about the staff. They were caring , personable and professional because they know that the owners of the pets they brought in are on edge. After all it is a 24 hour emergency care and if we are there it is because we're worried. I was there very early in the morning. I'm sure people come and go through the night with their fur babies and I can only imagine how hard it can be working the night shift. Nevertheless the staff had a calm caring vibe which out me at ease. I would highly recommend this. VCA. They took my dog back the doctor examined him and then sat me down in one of the offices and without a time limit told me what he thought explained to me what I should do and sent me home with meds until I could go see his neurologist which is conveniently in the same center. VCA Tustin saved my dog's life! Took him in to the hospital the end of December as he ate the stuffing inside a new toy. (PSA-DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG UNSUPERVISED WITH A STUFFED TOY!) Anyways he had to have stomach surgery to remove the stuffing. Bronson stayed at the VCA for 3 weeks as he had several complications after his surgery because of his age (12) and previous medical conditions. VCA Tustin staff was so amazing, they not only gave my dog world class treatment and care, but they were also very sweet to me. I called everyday multiple times throughout the day and night and everyone from the phone staff to the vet techs to the doctors were amazing. They never made me feel like I was bugging them and always answered all my questions. The techs even orchestrated several facetime calls with my dog. I could truly tell when I spoke to everyone on the phone that they all really cared about my Bronson. Honesty, my dog wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for this great group at VCA Tustin. I am truly indebted to this team and am in complete amazement of their skill and compassion. Dr. McDooling was brilliant with Bronson. She is his Internist and was his primary doctor while he was there. All the doctors are amazing as well...Drs. Supance, Collins, Munchel, Fatourechi, Durtschi, Shepherd and Uyeno. You really cannot go wrong with any of them. I highly recommend! The Vet Techs were phenomenal as well. I spoke mostly with...Jenny, Amber, Lisa, Gabby, Kamie, Janelle, Emma and Karen. They were all so caring and sweet. Even the phone staff, Daniella and Ellie were so thoughtful and compassionate. I cannot rave enough about this group! This is an exceptional emergency hospital. From doctors to vet techs, these individuals go above and beyond to care for your pet. I brought my Maltipoo for ACL surgery with a specialist and it went smooth. They gave me and instructed how to handle her meds. It has been 3 months since her surgery and she is walking like nothing ever happened. We still crate her (doctors orders) for at least one more month before she can go on her regular walks. I couldn't be happier with the results. Also, I've been reading some of the reviews and they tend to give one or two stars based on the pricing of this hospital. Well, here is a little insight. This is a 24hour emergency hospital, and just like human hospitals, going to any emergency room will rack up a nice hefty bill. So beware, if your pooch has a case of the sh*** and you don't think its life threatening. You're probably better off waiting until the following day and taking it to a regular vet. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr Kevin Haynes and his surgical staff in Tustin. My Winston was diagnosed with anal sac adenocarcinoma thru a blood test prior to a tooth extraction. I live in the desert and there are no specialists to handle the type of surgery he required. I was devastated and spent a month trying to find help. The VCA Tustin facility was the first one I was referred to. But were booked for consults as all the others until October. I didn't give up and caught a cancellation for a consult. we went for consult and lucky for us we got Dr Haynes and his staff who ended up anle to do surgery that day. So precious fissions love and caring answering all my questions. todsy a week later Winston is already healed from surgery and Dr got all the cancer out he could see with clear margins. next is oncology but we are very hopeful for a long and healthy life. Stay FAR FAR FAR away from this sick place! First of all, they spent 2 hours to do a simple exam and they kept telling me doctor's busy without updating me any information. Second, they took my baby away from me for the entire 2 hours and not letting me see my baby. I used to be in another hospital and they let me stay with my baby when they did simple exam to her, so I'm just wondering why they needed to take 2 hours just for the simple exam which usually only needed 15 minutes. Third, they want to charge me over $600 to do the treatment. I saw the collar cost $75. What the hell is that? So I ended up leaving this sick place immediately. Oh one more thing, I told them I want my baby back immediately and they asked me to pay first and waited another 5 minutes. Thank goodness I read the Yelp reviews before I visited. If something is wrong this is a good place to take your pet, BUT keep in mind that it's an emergency room/hospital so their financial interests lie in running tests & admitting your pet. Keep a level head in figuring out if your pet actually needs all of the treatments, tests and exams they recommend. My dog had a pinched nerve or pulled muscle. He was in pain and couldn't move. When we arrived, a very sweet vet tech came out to the car and gently carried him in. She took him back to take vitals and check him out while I filled out paperwork in the lobby. The front office staff were all compassionate and kind.After a short wait I met with the doctor. Thanks to honest Yelpers I was ready to hear that my dog was dying & needed every single exam. As expected, the doctor implied my dog could have a neurological problem or disc issues that would lead to loss of all hind leg function. However to know for sure he wanted to "run tests" including an x-ray & MRI, and he wanted to keep him overnight for "observation". I was firm on only wanting a sedative or pain killer to be administered to ease my dog's discomfort. When my dog was brought out after his injection miraculously, he was able to WALK out of there on his own. That was all the little guy needed to function again. I paid about $120 for the consult, the injection, and some additional pain medication they gave me to administer to him over the next few days which is a very reasonable price considering just a visit and course of antibiotics with his vet costs about $95. The next day my dog was mobile and happy. During our visit with our vet he saw the discharge report mentioned possible neurological issues so he did a "paw test" using his hand to bend my dog's paws back. My dog immediately straightened his paws. The vet pointed out that if there had been a delay he would have ordered further tests, but he didn't see a need to order an X-ray or MRI or any other special tests. He said disc issues are common with this breed & an x-ray or MRI would serve no purpose. This confirmed that trusting my instincts was the right thing to do. read more

This office deserves less than ZERO for their unethical behavior. If you read the reviews, the wonderful Dr. April Durtschi treated so many dogs in the community and loved by all. When Dr. Durtschi recently parted ways with this facility, they refuse to give or forward her contact. My dog has only been seen by Dr. Durtschi and I want to maintain the consistency of the same Cardiologist- vet. I called and spoke with the staff and then the office manager, whom both refused to give any forwarding details. Quite frankly, they flat out lied and said they didn't know where she went. When everyday they are getting request to transfer the patients - dogs records to Dr. Durtschi's new office. Took my dog here in September for a surgical consultation for brachiocephalic airway syndrome. I felt good about the surgeon we met that day, so proceeded to schedule the surgery. After that day I received no emails or calls regarding surgery even though the day was approaching soon. I called the day before to confirm my pet was actually on the schedule for the following morning. They said they would call me back. I tried to give the place the benefit of the doubt because I know hospitals can be busy. However, when I finally got a call back in the late afternoon they told me last minute that my original surgeon was out and that they found a covering surgeon who could do the surgery. Had I not contacted them, I would have not known. The person handling the surgery called me telling me she would be emailing me information to prepare for the following day.When I went to check my email all I received were 3 of the same invoices. She then calls me back saying there's been a mistake with my invoice and proceeded to send me ANOTHER invoice and left for the day. Therefore, the front desk person told me no questions regarding the invoice could be answered. Invoice had extremely inflated estimates. I get it when there is a couple hundred listed for "estimated injectables" or " estimate for medicines," but if you're going to add an additional $1000 for these injectables or medications then an itemized list would be courteous to the payer. Money doesn't fall from trees. The fact that they were able to send me so many invoices, but could not send me any bit of information on preop care, postop care or even a simple appointment or surgery email /call clearly shows their priority $$$ and it is definitely not the patient(s). I called back and cancelled my pets surgery. I'm thankful I'm fortunate enough to have pet insurance. The cost of surgery would be covered, but this place just did not sit right with me. I went across the street to the vet surgical specialist of Orange County and my experience was the exact opposite. They charge half the price for better care. It was a no-brainer. So thankful for the team at VSSOC. Bless your souls. I get it if the care and services were amazing, but if you're going to pay an arm and a leg for elective surgery, why go to such a subpar place? They will try to tell you in the beginning now we don't have a lot of money nor do we expect that our clients have a lot of money but... And then they send in the technician(pretty with a British accent) with the itemized bill. Initially they give you a quote on the low side and the high side-my initial quote for one overnight stay was $3600 on the low side and $4200 on the high side. I told them it wasn't happening and they came back with a revised quote for $2100. After believing all of their scare tactics I decided to leave my dog there for one day. The next day it was the same story another quote for another day blah blah blah, she needs to stay here she cannot go home I'm going to advise against that... it could be this it could be that she needs to stay here under our care---scare tactics. Also she can't go home now we would have to wean her off of the several medications we have her on... also I truly believe that the doctor we dealt with Heidi Schulze is an actress- A couple times when I resisted on the fees it was obvious her change in attitude from sweet to not so sweet. She is very good at acting. If I had it to do over again I would've called friends that have dogs and ask them who they used instead of a referral from my veterinarian who does not have a weekend care-now I'm questioning if I'm even at the right veterinarian.... I recently had to bring my cat in for emergency services and was absolutely pleased with the service and care that we both received in the small amount of time that we were there. I ended up needing to transfer my cat to a different clinic because the estimate was more than I'd be able to pay and was completely blown away by the level of service they provided even though I was transferring him. Not only did they find me a different clinic to take him to that would better fit my budget, but they also did a courtesy catheterization so that he would be ready to go at the other clinic. Definitely made me wish my budget was a little more lenient because I would have happily paid for their services and kept him there the days he needed. Unfortunately, I would rate this place lower if I could. The front desk lady was friendly and caring, she deserves 5 stars. But everything else was a nightmare. It took me a long time to put myself together to write this review. It's gonna be long. It's gonna be unpleasant. And I am not a native speaker, so please bear with me. In short, if you love your pet, don't go there. They care only about money, and nothing else. Here is my horror story. About a month ago, we brought my dog Ody in. He was not quite himself that day after we put him on a new prescription diet and a new med. It was after hours. We thought it was probably just an upset tummy but wanted to be safe. After about 40 minutes wait in the lobby, we got to go in one of the private rooms and meet the vet. Dr. Shepherd stated right away that she was very busy that night. We said we understand. After rushing through all the routine questions, she was gone and never to be seen again. An assistant came in 10 minutes later, with an estimated bill of over $1,000. Yes, you are reading this right: over $1,000. Clearly, and sadly, Dr. Shepherd wasn't too busy to proscribe a long list of expensive exams. We declined the exams. We thought they were unnecessary and expensive. Most importantly, I knew Ody could get really terrified going through them. There was no way I was gonna put him through the exams just because he had some mild symptoms. Obviously, the assistant wasn't thrilled to hear our decision. She asked us: how much can you pay today? Seeing we were baffled by this kind of question, she offered cheaper options: from $800 to $200. She seemed to be very prepared for this kind of negotiation. We eventually agreed to go with the cheapest: no exams, just treating the symptoms. It was just gonna be the pain killer injection and the underskin fluid therapy. We were also gonna get pain medication to take home. (Though in hindsight, I couldn't see how the fluid therapy was necessary. Ody was drinking and clearly wasn't dehydrated. ) Two hours later, Ody was ready and we took him home. We thought we were finally through it, but we couldn't be more wrong. The nightmare was just beginning. Not until we got home did we really notice how much Ody had changed. Before he went in the ER, he was, overall, normal. Yes he had some discomfort and was a bit lethargic. But he was ok. But now, he wasn't himself at all. He turned into something that I had never known. He was shaking, panting, whimpering, restless and hypervigilant. His eyes had a wired movement and unfocused look that we have never seen before during the 14 years together. It seemed like he was having neurological symptoms. It was so scary for us, and probably even more so for Ody. Normally, I would rush him to the ER, but not that night. I was not sending him back to the place that gave him this! (With hindsight, I probably should rush him to a DIFFERENT ER with good yelp rating!) Because he was so anxious and restless, he wouldn't go to his bed and sleep that night. So we took turn lying on the carpeted floor, holding him and trying our best to comfort him. He seemed traumatized. He developed a fear of the open door, so we closed all the doors in my bedroom. He instead stared at the closed door or the walls with blank eyes for hours, seemingly unresponsive to our touch or words of comfort. We also couldn't help but notice the stinky smell he got from the 3 hours stay in the ER kennel. His feet were very dirty too. I kept thinking what happened to him there and how sorry I was to put him through this, probably over nothing. That was traumatic for me, one of the worst nights of my life. (Fortunately, Ody recovered over about three days. And more likely than not, the original cause of the visit was an upset tummy. ) The last but not the least, Dr. Shepherd proscribed a pain medication(Gabapentin) that Ody really shouldn't be taking. We reported verbally to her as well as in written form that Ody was on an acid controller that should not be taken with Gabapentin. Yet, no one shared that piece of information with us and we had to find it out by ourselves. They are indeed too busy. In a nutshell, Ody stayed in the ER kennel for three hours. He underwent two simple treatments and he came out devastated. For these two treatments, at least one is unnecessary. We took home a pain medication that Ody shouldn't be taking. We are so sad and angry about what have transpired here. They made horrible treatment decisions, while only trying to get as much money from my pocket as they can. Dr. Shepherd even offered to keep Ody in overnight. I am so glad I declined right away. Even if we don't consider the cost (which is no doubt gonna be a lot), how much worse Ody was gonna be? I honestly can't even start to imagine. It is clear now that Ody and us suffered for nothing.I am sorry Ody. I AM. read more

I called these people wanting a ultrasound for my dog they said 240 dollars so i said ok when can i bring him in and they said any time we don't make appointments its all walk ins. I pull up and they tell me its 700 to 900 dollars please confirm, so i said on the phone you said 240 and she said yes that's if its not a walk in and i said I called to make an appointment and you guys said you didn't do that but i had to agree since my dog was in pain, so they bring my dog in and she calls me and she said the DR said its 1000 dollars for the ultrasound please confirm and im like what 240 to 1000 in 5 min? Ok do it, then they tell me the ultrasound doesn't show anything you need a xray cat scan and blood work 8000 dollars, So i agreed then they said there is nothing we can do you need to put him down. so i took him to another vet and he said in the xrays you can clearly see stones in him and the xray is all they needed to do, thats the first thing all vets to its cheap and then you go from there, all these other tests was just to make money. he did the surgery and now hes great. They have saved 2 of my dogs. Several years ago, my Shepard was misdiagnosed at a clinic and when he wasn't getting better suggested I take him to an internist. Dr. McDooling fit him in and was able to determine I he was septic. They were honest it would be a long tough road with less than 50% chance of making it. He had to stay over a week and everyone was amazing. I tried to schedule an appointment recently with a vet there that knows a lot about bacterial infections that my cat has had as they are no longer spraying the cats but in an unpleasant phone call the manager refused to allow me to set an appointment. I think it's for the best. I'm headed to a nephrologist at UC Davis at UCSD. I'd go to VCA West Coast for ER or somewhere else for regular vet care. read more

Took our diabetic dog there to get a second opinion. Our dog is very finicky and nervous about going to the vet. Keep in mind this is when Covid was almost nonexistent . All public facilities are open including stadiums arenas banks doctor offices grocery stores and every other type of merchant you can think of are not even requiring masks anymore. We were not allowed to go in with our dog and had to sit out in the sun in our car. After being told all the information that we already knew and that they would like to run a lot of expensive test we declined. We paid $130 + for 45minute check up. I requested to use the restroom real quick because I have a weak bladder Iam a senior citizen. I was told to go use The restroom and Jack-in-the-Box. Because they have to observe so-called social distancing .. what a joke . Keep in mind they were basically the only business that I know of that doesn't allow people inside because of so-called social distancing. You have no idea how they examine your pet what they did or didn't do and it seems they just like to use Covid to stop the public from coming in , probably because dogs and cats can't talk it's more convenient for them. read more

I never leave reviews but this time I feel I should warn people & share my experience. My regular Vet recommended an endoscopic biopsy because she suspected lymphoma or IBD. She said the internal medicine specialists here could do it. So I called & made an appointment. I explained that my cat is very sick & very scared & it would be difficult for me & traumatizing for him to catch him & drive 40 minutes to Tustin. I asked if the vet would definitely do the endoscopy on that day. They answered "probably." & the soonest I could get in was 5 weeks. I reiterated that my cat was very sick & asked if I could be put on a wait list in case something came up later. They said "Sure." I called around 6 times during those 5 weeks to check for appointments & confirm they received his records & would definitely do the endoscopy on that day. I got nothing but similarly vague answers & no offers to find out. The day before my scheduled appointment, they called to confirm the appointment & again gave similarly vague answers to my questions. My appointment was for 12:30, an endoscopy requires anesthesia, so I asked if I should fast my cat (again, emphasizing that he is very sick & it is important that he receive the endoscopy especially if he has to fast). They said " Sure, don't feed him after 7pm." That is an excessively long time to fast a sick cat. When he had his ultrasound, my regular vet said to fast for 8 hours. I managed to catch my sick, hungry, terrified cat & drive 40 minutes to Tustin while he whimpered & cried. Due to COVID protocols, I called from the parking lot when I arrived. & I was told my appointment had been cancelled. & they said they had called me. Apparently they did but they didn't have the Decency to Leave a Message!!!!! I can't imagine anyone in any industry failing to leave a message about a cancelled appointment! & in this case it not only showed an extreme lack of basic customer service skills, it also showed a profound lack of empathy. They said someone would call to reschedule. I couldn't wait another 5 weeks & I didn't trust them. So I called all the internal medicine specialists I could find. Dr. Rossi's assistant at Blue Pearl Veterinary Hospital returned my call within 24 hours. I explained my circumstances & begged her to definitely schedule the endoscopy as soon as possible. The next day she called back & had gotten my cat's records, spoke to Dr. Rossi & confirmed she could do the consultation & endoscopy on the same day & within a week. They were amazing. They answered all of my questions about the procedure, results, giving medicine, possible next steps, shared their experience in caring for their own sick cats. Received results in a couple days. My cat has Lymphoma. Dr. Rossi comforted me & recommended oncologists. I can't help but think about how sick my cat was & how he got sicker in those wasted 6 weeks while I repeatedly called OCVS only to be disregarded. Do Not take your pet here. Go to Blue Pearl. Dr. Tansy, the oncologist there, is also excellent. read more

Honestly surprised at the bad reviews, but grateful my experience was good! I came home from work after 1am, noticed my kitten had a pretty bad cut. Called VCA, they were helpful over the phone. They did tell me it could be a 4-5 hour wait (the doctor seen my kitty within 30 minutes of me dropping him off though!) The doctor called me, discussed a treatment plan and the cost of everything! My kitty needed sedated, and stitches, antibiotics, and pain medication. I was expecting a much bigger bill than what I was quoted, and was surprised when it was so little. And at the end of it, they actually ended up refunding some $$ because it didn't take as long as they anticipated! Techs were super helpful, made sure to go over his discharge plan in great detail. From the time I dropped him off, to the time I got him back was about 4 1/2 hours. Definitely recommend! read more

PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE! SCARE TACTICS, EXPENSIVE, CROOKS, HORRIBLE I'D GIVE LESS THAN A SINGLE STAR Recently, we were told by our regular vet (Banfield) to take our dog to VCA because his glucose level was extremely high, he may be experiencing organ failure and it was life threatening. In our panic, we took him immediately. The first doctor we saw explained to us he was diabetes ketoacidosis and might have pancreatitis. They would keep him at minimum from Saturday until Monday and they'd let us know if he could go home Monday. Admitting him required a 75% deposit of "estimate", which was $3,525. As of Sunday morning, the same doctor said his ketones were negative and he was going to be switched to the 12 hour insulin in the evening. We were hopeful our dog would come home Monday, but Monday morning, a different doctor called and stated he tested positive for ketones. When I asked about it being negative before, she said he didn't respond to the meds as hoped and there might be something more serious. She said he'd need to stay at least another 2 days. Not knowing what to do, we agreed to keep him there another 2 days, which incurred an additional $4800. That night, I go visit my dog but speak to this doctor about the tests and abdominal ultrasound first. She tells us that the abdominal ultrasound was bright and he has severe pancreatitis, may have peritonitis, possibly even necrotizing pancreatitis. She said there was no way to truly know how bad his pancreatitis was unless they performed surgery. She explained she would go in and if it was not necrotizing, they would flush out and go from there. If it was necrotizing, well that kills him. She was basically suggesting we authorize "exploratory" surgery on our dog. She very cold. My dog isn't your experiment or test dummy. He's our family. This aggressiveness really didn't sit well with my family. We decided to take him out of VCA and bring him to a different vet. When I told her I was taking him out, she basically tried to scare me with the severity of his insides and wherever I take him, it's going to be the same thing. She said "maybe I didn't make myself clear on how severe your dogs problems and pancreas is..." Yes she did, but I don't see the reason to cut into my dog without really fixing anything. I had them give me printouts of all his records as well as images on CD. She was hesitant but did have it ready in the morning. As of today, our dog's blood work has come back fine and he'll only deal with diabetes moving forward. All levels are back to normal and he is doing well. If we went with her suggestion of putting our dog through surgery, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have him with us today. read more

VCA has saved my dog, Lad, three times. The first time, he was stung by a bee, and went into anaphylactic shock. After that, he swallowed something and had a bowel obstruction, which required surgery. Recently, he swallowed a $20 bill, along with some other things. They did an endoscopy and a biopsy, and discovered that he has IBD. They recommended that I change his diet. He's doing better than ever. I appreciate everyone on the staff for being kind, polite, professional, and answering my many questions. read more

Noodle came in at a really bad shape. He was neglected by other vet and by the time he got here, it was pretty much to late. Despite all that, the staffs and doctors here are very nice. They explained to us very clearly all the terms of what they mean, what happened, what is going on. Doctor Supane even went the extra length to work with my other doctor to figure out if there is anything else we can do. I'm angry and frustrated with the neglected vets, but this place makes me believe, there are still good and caring vet out there. read more

Took our dog here for an emergency and she was properly taken care of. The only thing I had an issue with is they did not provide her with an allergy pill to take at home. The injection they gave her only helped for 2 days. read more

OC VCA is an outstanding practice with the most knowledgeable staff and doctors around. You cannot beat the quality of care that you will find at this location. Our 11 year old golden retriever had bowel problems that became a reoccurring issue on a more frequent basis. We were told that more invasive testing was required to understand what was going on with him internally. We agreed. After the testing, we were given three options on how to proceed; we chose the third option, which was to make his remaining days as comfortable as possible. He responded very well to the medications that he was prescribed and we were able to enjoy having him around for another 4 years. I have went there with a friend with her new dog that she just rescued a bulldog. From the prior owner that tried to breed that dog with 5 other dogs and she lost all of her puppies with.. so yea so her area is swollen and she just had a section not so long less then 2 week ago.. my friend told the vet Kelly Schmitz she just rescued this dog from an abusive owner and that vet told her to "relinquished to a shelter where they can hopefully treat her and maybe able to find her a home" when I just got her from this situation.. key word "hopefully" seven day she would be put down or the rescue won't even bother to take her in....my friend is going more and over the beyond her and his capability to keep this lovely dog alive..when this stupid vet is just trying to get money off her.. my friend only went in as a concern NEW PET PARENT of her new first baby throwing up.. it's a bull dog they are know to throw up when the heat/ temp is too high..she was trying to scam us of 5000 dollars to fine out what was wrong with her.. she keep on press me her for more information with she did not know of.. (just rescued) and asked her to get more information from the original owner which won't give us any information about this dog so we have to start from the beginning..WE UNDERSTAND it's the importance of finding out what's wrong but at this moment she only thinking of money dollars and not thinking of the baby. My friend is heart broken of what this doctor said saying she's not a good pet parents.. and she/he can't afford them.. I'm sorry she just rescued this dog from an abusive owner and it's her/his care.. i brought my cat in as a result of banfield putting cat in a terrible situation which in turn worsened my cat's health. i brought my car to vca and was price gouged $1,200-1,500 for urine, x ray and blood work to find out why he was urinating blood. after getting results back they quoted me ****$10 thousand dollars on the low end**** are you kidding me first you price gouge me on testing and not only upped the price of testing frim $1,200 to $1,500 but now are telling me on the low end the surgery is $10 thousand on the low end on top of that you told me there were other more important pets there??? idk i'd think someone who has to have such an expensive surgery would be pretty urgent this is abusive, manipulative and incredibly shallow and insensitive. you are taking advantage of myself who is a student and other innocent hardworking people. they prey on you in a time of need stay away update: the staff is extremely rude, talks back, had a hard time getting the x-rays, have been on hold multiple times for 20 minutes at a time. the employee dani is also a trainee and i was told $90 was the emergency visit and now i'm being charged $98.50 with extra money charged as well $24.05 in addition for medication that has been adjusted. chris and dr simmon are so rude and short with myself and my mom who is an immigrant who sometimes has trouble with putting words in correct grammar this place is a literal factory. they don't care, have zero emotions and take pets in and out like it's nothing. it's disgusting to see how inhumane they all are read more

It is so sad: do not be fooled - this is a business aimed at making money, not caring for your family member. Long story short, I paid $1000 to treat my dog for a beesting - and I had to negotiate for 4 hours to get the cost down to $1000. Here is what this place does: 1. You meet with the Vet and he/she tells you all the horrible things that can happen to your pet. 2. They present a quote for thousands and thousands of dollars. (A gall bladder ultrasound and liver study for a bee sting?) 3. At some point, the Vet tech will say: "I don't want to keep going back and forth, how much can you pay?" Ummm...I just want you to give my dog an epi shot now. 4. They will push and scare you into hospitalization. 5. You pay because you are presented with a horrible choice: pay an outrageous amount of money for what seems like things your dog doesn't need or follow your instincts and risk the immense guilt/consequences of being wrong. The emotional roller coaster is purposeful to extract money from you. Your love for your pet will be exploited. I gave them 2 stars because they were reasonably nice and my dog was competently treated. I wish there was an emergency pet hospital where the vets are merely there to treat your animal for his sickness and not to manipulate and exploit your love for your pet to get your money... In their defense, I felt they can adequately treat a dog for a beesting. He was totally fine a few hours (and $1000) later. read more

Took my little yorkie for a visit last night around midnight for what turned out to likely be an allergic reaction. No one else was there at the time and they took my dog in for his exam very quickly. All staff members were very kind and competent. The whole place is extremely clean which is a big plus for me. They have complimentary doggie bag holders, notebooks, coffee, and candies. The vet (unfortunately dont remember her name) was very thorough, very patient and kind. She did not rush us and made sure to explain everything very thoroughly. Our boy received fluids for dehydration, a benadryl injection, steroid injection, and some take home antibiotic medicine. As soon as we got home he had already perked up and seemed much better than before the visit. Today he is still not 100% but improving. Thank you guys!! read more

Dr April Durtschi is a dog Cardiologist that works out of this hospital. She treated my boxer for ARVC and he is doing very well. He had no symptoms that I could see, but she was referred to me when my local vet was concerned about my dogs heartbeat. I found her very helpful and great with my dog. The staff was also very good to work with. read more

They took such good care of our dog and were so compassionate when it was time for our dog to cross the rainbow. Was it expensive? Yes. Were they upfront with the costs? Yes. Do I feel in any way they cheated us? No. Dr. Shapiro was amazing and took so much time explaining everything during our sweet dog's 24 hour stay. I would not hesitate to take any pet here. read more
