I went to Vedge because the individual I was dining with is a vegetarian. She had eaten there several times, it was my first. We started off with two of the Rutabaga fondues with soft pretzels - it's a favorite of hers. The pretzel was everything you'd expect a delicious soft pretzel to be. The fondue is very light and creamy...however, I noticed an underlying sour or bitter taste. My friend did not, and said it was very good. Rutabagas are bitter until they're cooked, then they taste more like a potato or a less-sweet carrot. Regardless, I tried it several times, and couldn't get past the sour tang at the end. Next, we ordered the Delicata Squash with quinoa, in a savory pipian verde sauce. It was sweet and velvety, a cross between a butternut squash and a sweet potato. There were pumpkin and sesame seeds in the sauce which added a great crunch! The last dish was quite unique - the Eggplant Braciole with Italian salsa verde and black olive purée. I could have eaten ten of them.......for a moment, it actually tasted like stuffed beef braciole! I noticed some interesting gelatos on the dessert menu and had to try them. We chose an assortment of coffee, mango and rosemary- they were all very tasty. Hands down the best vegan food I have ever had! No one in our group was vegan but we all agreed that this meal was amazing and shocked that it was all vegan. Every dish was incredible, especially the grilled tofu. It was wonderfully seasoned. The only item that wasn't great was the "cheese" dip with the pretzel app. There was a weird taste that I find a lot of vegan cheeses have. The restaurant decor is upscale and the staff is attentive. There is a happy hour during the week, however I did not go for happy hour so cannot speak about their happy hour menu. This restaurant was recommended to me a little over a year ago, and a very good friend surprised me with am early birthday dinner there. Vedge is the perfect spot for a celebratory meal. I would go there just to celebrate Wednesday! Our server recommended trying about five dishes which we were perfectly fine with as we were starving. We started with the rutabaga fondue with today's soft pretzel and yesterday's pickles. The fondue was creamy with a light flavor that was quite savory. The pretzel melted in my mouth! The pickles were surprisingly delicious! They consisted of pickled assorted veggies. For our main entrees, we shared charred Florentino with BBQ lentils, spicy Dan Dan noodles with glazed shiitake mushrooms and Maitake and Trumpet mushrooms with fregola. This was wayyy too much food, but again, we were famished. I'm not sure I could choose a favorite as they were all equally amazing! The flavors were so robust in each dish with a kick of spicy heat. The Dan Dan noodles could've included a bit more mushrooms as the black vinegar glaze topping them was divine. The Maitake and Trumpet mushrooms could, low key, be my favorite now that I'm really reflecting. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly and the fregola married so well with the beans and pesto. This was not your average, run of the mill pesto. It definitely helped to set the dish apart. I had to slow down on the charred Florentino because I was getting full but the BBQ flavor was too good to resist! We had no idea how we would get dessert down, yet we managed. I enjoyed a surprise strawberry cheesecake which was the perfect combination of a creamy decadent ice cream with chunks of strawberry cheesecake. The blueberry cheesecake with lavender ice cream may have stole the entire evening! It was plated with poppyseed crust and lemon curd. Getting all those flavors in one bite was earth shattering! The only lowlight of our evening was our server's inability to make eye contact with me or even address me. This also made my friend uncomfortable. It had been years since I'd been to Vedge, so I was super excited to return and re-order a few old favorites and try some new dishes. The ambiance and service were just as great as I remembered. The three of us split 5 dishes: - Smoked portobella carpaccio with caper dressing & fennel remoulade - 8/10 - Rutabaga fondue with today's soft pretzel & yesterdays pickles - the rutabaga fondue was what I was looking forward to the most as it was so tasty last time, but it was wayyyy more root vegetable-forward than I remembered - 6.5/10 - Seared maitake and trumpet mushrooms with farro pilaf, fresh lima beans and porcini jager sauce - 9/10 - Gochujang glazed tofu with miso potato mash, charred scallion and shiso radish salad - 9.5/10 - Spicy dan dan noodles with black vinegar glazed shiitake mushrooms - 9/10 We also split two desserts, both of which were delicious. The sticky toffee pudding (date cake with hazelnut tuile and cardamom ice cream) was just as delicious as I remembered from before (10/10). The figgy cheesecake with concord grape and madeira ice cream was also delicious (9.5/10). To drink, I had The Great Persuader (japanese whiskey, cognac, calvados, and spiced plum) which was amazing (9.5/10). As a vegetable appreciator and fan of plant-based meals, I think Vedge lives up to the hype. I stopped by pre-orchestra concert and would absolutely recommend this course of action for a special night out. Went with the grilled avocado, squash, and dan dan noodles - all of which stood out to me in their own special way. The noodles with mushrooms made a particular impression, which isn't surprising since it is a menu item that seems to stay on the menu no matter the season. Service is amazing and I would recommend making reservations as it does get fairly busy. The restaurant itself boasts well-spaced out tables in a space that feels like you're dining in someone else's living room, which I loved. Our server was super attentive and knowledgeable with great suggestions to boot. I don't think I'll be back super soon since this is more of a special occasion spot as opposed regular visit, but meat eaters and vegans alike will feel at home and transported at Vedge. The beginning of our experience was great but towards the end, we felt forgotten by the bartender and a bus person or food runner reached across from us to clear of plates, which only made us feel like they wanted us to leave. At the recommendation of our waiter, we ordered 5 dishes to share between two people. We had the deviled hearts of palm, which was a light, fresh start to the meal. It was flavorful and had great texture. The sauce was delightful; we used some of the pretzel from the rutabaga fondue to sop up the remaining sauce. I also really liked the rutabaga fondue (and the accompanied pickles!), but the opinion wasn't shared by A. There was a slightly bitter aftertaste that he didn't enjoy. His favorite dish was the grilled tofu, which was also meat-like with its dense consistency. The eggplant braciole tasted good, but nothing like a sausage as it was described to us (except in this shape). As a vegetarian, I had been eyeing this place for a few years, and I finally decided to give it a go for a birthday dinner during my last few months left in Philadelphia. Sadly, I think it was a tad underwhelming, so I don't think I'll be returning here. Ambiance: It seems to be located in an old mansion, and has very cozy vibes. You're sitting quite close to other guests. Service: The service was okay overall. Having come here for a special occasion, I had expected the server to ask if it was our first time and any special occasion, but alas that was not elicited. Everyone also just seemed a little bit...unenthusiastic/tired? Food: The presentation of each dish was very well done and very visually appealing. - Rutabaga fondue: This was unique. The pretzel bread was delicious served warm, soft, and salty on the outside. The fondue was on the sweeter side and a tasted a bit boozy, and I mostly finished it because we paid for the dish. The pickled vegetables were pretty enjoyable. - Crispy pee wee potatoes: I was expecting very crispy potatoes, and while they were decent, unfortunately nothing to write home about. I think double frying these at a higher temperature would have been highly beneficial. The sauce serviced with the potatoes was tasty, a bit tangy and well-spiced. I finished the remaining sauce with the bread from the first dish. - Eggplant braciola: This was a smoked eggplant dish with a filling I couldn't quite get my finger on served on a bed of an Italian salsa verde. It was an interesting, and overall pretty flavorful dish; I enjoyed the texture of the eggplant with the thick sauce. - Lion's mane mushroom: This was my favorite dish; the mushrooms cooked and seasoned well, inviting a pleasant, juicy, texture really focused on the mushroom flavor. The uses of celery in the accompaniments was unique and tasteful. Notably, based on other Yelp reviews, I avoided the smoked portobella carpaccio even though the waiter recommended it as one of their popular dishes. I think this was an excellent decision as I glanced over at the table next to me, and the dish looked extremely underwhelming, with 4 extremely thin slices of mushroom on the plate. My review may not be as relevant anymore since the menu changes every so often, but regardless, everything was delicious and service was amazing! This is the perfect spot for a nice date or a cozy dinner with family! I am by no means vegan, but I'm glad my friend persuaded me to try this place. I was blown away by the textures and flavors they were able to create from vegan ingredients. To start, we ordered drinks, and I was quite indecisive, so I asked the waiter for a recommendation for something tart and light, as I prefer drinks that are a bit sour. He recommended the Nordic Sunrise, and I was VERY satisfied. It was not only light and refreshing with a bit of tartness, but the most interesting thing was that I could taste the purple cabbage in the drink! It was exactly what I wanted, and for anyone who likes anything sour, I would recommend this cocktail. As for the food, I was made speechless. I've reevaluated my opinion on vegan food thanks to Vedge. The Japanese hotpot (don't think it's on the menu anymore) was incredible. I'm not sure how they were able to create that depth of flavor without the usual dashi anchovy broth base, but whatever they used to make the broth was SO good. All the vegetables and udon noodles that were in the soup made for a hearty soup that was perfect for a cold day. My personal favorite from everything we ordered was the Lion's Mane mushroom. The texture made it seem like I was eating meat, and the flavor was simple, but perfect. Even if you don't like celery, the dish was perfectly balanced as to make sure the celery bearnaise didn't overpower the natural flavor of the lions mane mushroom. Truly a masterpiece. I had such high expectations of this place! The Yelp and Google reviews were both AMAZING, and it came recommended by a friend as well. My husband is vegetarian, and sometimes it can be really difficult to find a good restaurant with more than ONE good entree option for him. So when I saw that this was entirely a vegetarian restaurant with so many options, I was super excited to bring him to Vedge! Unfortunately, our hopes were completely dashed. We made a reservation in advance, so we were seated quickly in a corner. The server came quickly and got our drinks order, and then we were left alone for about 10-15 minutes with no drinks and no way to order. After 3 attempts to flag down the server, we ordered 6 dishes to share between 2 people. And the food was overall... not great. The roasted broccoli was burnt black to the point that it was bitter, not slightly caramelized. The stuffed avocado tasted like avocado that was taken out from the fridge onto some cold soup and then a bunch of tempura flakes were thrown on it. The eggplant was similarly burnt and unfortunately quite tasteless - have they heard of salt or pepper or both? The savior of the day was the rutabaga fondue, which was edible with the bread. The pickled vegetables that it came with were... less edible. And I say this as someone who will eat pickles by themselves! Overall, it was over $150 for two people with 2 non-alcoholic drinks. We left starving, and we had to eat a second dinner. Let me preface by the fact that wanted to love this place so much. V street has a special place in my heart, so I was really looking forward to trying Vedge. We got to the restaurant early, and they were extremely nice in accommodating us although they didn't have any immediate seating available, we were told that they were going to contact us if any table became available sooner. they even gave us a tour of the indoor and outdoor dining areas, in case we changed our mind about outdoor seating. We started with drinks, we had the Spanish G+T and the sour. They were both pretty tasty, the tonic however had peppercorn in it which I didn't expect and did bite into it thinking it was part of the blackberry - which did kinda turn my tastebuds a little bitter for the rest of the night. We tried several items from the menu, the fondue, the tofu, the eggplant, the pho soup, which were all very tasty but far too salty for my tastes. I was drinking a lot of water throughout the night and through dinner. The desserts however were amazing, especially the love cake. I only wish I had more to take home with me.. The portions were small, which I understand the type of restaurant, and I didn't feel that the value matched the cost. The cost for 3 people was 366. The service was friendly and efficient, with staff members being attentive to our needs throughout most of the meal. As they got busier our server wasn't as attentive as when we first came in and sat down. This was a highlight of the experience. We were visiting Philly and I'm vegetarian. I've been to plenty of vegan/vegetarian restaurants in NYC and this place is up to par. The outdoor heating section was nice and cute. We got the potatoes, fondue, tacos, and noodles. All were really good and flavorful! The best was the crispy cauliflower taco. It is crispy, fresh, flavorful, spicy and just overall amazing. The best and highlight of my meal was the sticky toffee pudding. It was AMAZING. I've gone to England multiple times and this was nostalgic and brought me back to a place I call second home. The cardamom icecream complemented it well and the cardamom wasn't overpowering like it can be. It was just overall the best dessert I've had in a really long time and I LOVE dessert so that's saying a lot. The reason I'm giving this 4 stars is because of covid times....I would have liked to see more hand sanitization stations. We saw one when we walked in the door but the outdoor seating area had none or wasn't visible. The staff would change our utensil and plates and although I'm sure they take proper precautions....I would've liked to be offered hand sanitizer before or after. We got our bill and paid for our bill and nobody gave us hand sanitizer after our meal. I think this is important during covid times. Otherwise pre-covid I would have given this 5 stars! My friend is vegetarian and before coming to Philly we had a hard time trying to find good restaurants that we could both eat at. On a recommendation, I reserved a seat for 2 but messed up the dates. Nevertheless, the host accommodated us and we were able to get a seat by the bar as a one off and we got to talk to the staff. After being burned by a vegan (supposedly chinese) restaurant in New York, our expectations were extremely low. I did the tasting menu at Vedge and had just the best time. Harry, my server, was simply wonderful.
