My favorite vegan deli ever. I went vegan about two years ago, I was vegetarian beforehand. I've been looking for a good vegan sandwich shop and came across Luhv. The food is amazing, and the staff is extremely helpful. They've expanded in the last two years and now have various items you can take home, which has been great! They've nailed their recipes. If you're ever in the Reading terminal you gotta give them a try, even if you aren't vegan! read more

We're in Philadelphia, so we need to have a cheesesteak, right? Found Luhv as a place offering a vegan version and was not disappointed. The sandwiches were fantastic! They were also massive; my wife and I should have split one, because we could hardly finish the salad (also delicious) that we got to go with it. My only complaint is that the service is really slow: we wanted to get a breakfast sandwich to take home for the next morning, but the line was always too long. read more

I went there as it's one of the few vegan options at Reading Terminal Market. Maybe their sandwiches are great, alas I will never know because they don't accommodate for gluten free bread. So I ordered a salad, surely a vegan place can make a salad, right? WRONG. I didn't think vegetables could taste that bland. The composition of the salad went as follows: baby spinach straight from the box, two table spoon of a lentil/quinoa mix (unseasoned) and some mushy cut tomatoes that must have been cut a days prior. Raspberry vinaigrette on the side was the only seasoning offered, and it tasted like dessert. Service was rude, and tired. Very disappointing experience overall. read more

Vegan food amidst a sea of restaurants filled with dairy and animal products is a refreshing find. Ordering was easy, either through the self-order kiosk or at the cashier. Visited on an early Sunday afternoon so it wasn't too busy in the Reading Terminal (where the deli is located) which made it easy to find and access. I ordered the Reuben and the Lox Bagel. The Reuben as a whole was good. First time having one in general. I thought there was enough "meat" in the sandwich to fill me up. The acidity of the sauerkraut paired well with the "meat" along with the tasty 1000 island dressing which I never liked before going vegan but this vegan version is great. The Lox Bagel was excellent! Had it the next day for breakfast and it was delicious! Couldn't even tell it was golden beets on the bagel. The combination of the beets, cream cheese (really good), capers, and onions were fantastic! I should've ordered two! I stumbled upon this vegan spot while I was browsing through Reading Terminal trying to decide what to eat. I've been a vegetarian for almost 17 years, so when the vibrant neon signs saying VEGAN caught my eye, I immediately realized this was the route I was going for lunch that day. After looking over the menu I opted for a caprese sandwich. I know, simple, but that's the kind of girl I am. After placing my order it was ready in under ten minutes and I met up with my boyfriend to grab a table and dig in. At that point, I'll be honest and share that I was underwhelmed. The bread was super thick, the tomato slices were barely there, as in so thin they were see-through, and there wasn't enough arugula. I get this sandwich doesn't have a ton of ingredients, but you can still make it hearty. I ended up taking all the ingredients off of one half and added it to the other half to make it a bit more enjoyable. I will say that the vegan mozzarella was delicious, it was as if it were the real thing! I would come back to try other items on the menu and encourage you to give it a try yourself. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the bread for the cold sub was a little chewy/tuff. Maybe if it were a hot sub it would have changed the texture of the bread but I ordered the italian sub and it was a delicious sub minus the texture of the cold bread. The star was the chocolate raspberry cake. 5 stars for the cake. So decadent and not overly sweet. The icing wasn't bitter which you tend to find in chocolate desserts. Yum! read more

Visited Luhv on a quick trip to Philly recently. I ordered a Tuna Hoagie, which may have been the wrong choice as it was a bit bland and tasted chalky with tons of mayo (not a fan). The staff were friendly enough, and it didn't take long to get my order. The concept is in the marketplace which makes for a fun atmosphere and was very busy. I ate here every day on my recent visit to Philadelphia. My favorite sandwich by far was the Luhv Lox--a bagel stuffed with smoked beet, cream cheese, onion, and capers. The Philly cheesesteak was a close second, and the Italian sub was delicious. My partner really liked sausage egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, but I did not like the tofu egg at all and thought the sandwich needed a sauce of some kind (hot sauce or A1). The only thing I would change about Luhv Lox is to have them out it on a softer bagel--the everything bagel tasted great but was extremely tough to bite through. What is there not to love about Luhv? Their menu is all vegan and covers breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and grab and go meats and sides. Many of their vegan meats are sourced from other small businesses, so when you support Luhvs you get to support another business too. I was overjoyed by my bagel and lox. The marinated golden beets were a fun fish substitute and were perfectly brined. I also enjoyed their portion size of cream cheese in my sandwich. Bought dinner from here tonight and so happy I did! I ordered the tuna salad rye sandwich and it was delicious! Very filling and so much flavor. Menu says they combine chickpea and seaweed to give that tuna taste. So good and I wouldn't change one thing about it! Bit pricey as expected with vegan food. Would've been nice if it came with some chips or spear pickle! In the past, I tried the Reuben which is supposed to be the most popular, but I wasn't a fan of it. Only one thing to be said: I absolutely Luhv-ed it! I visited Reading Terminal Market today for the first time in what seems like 5 years and was shocked at how little crowds there were at lunchtime. I made my way to Luhv Vegan Deli, which has been on my bucket list for a while now and waited in a short line. I was surprised at how quickly I found it inside the market, too. I perused the menu prior to arriving, and I had an idea of what I wanted, but all I heard in line was "Reuben" and "Italian hoagie" so it was clear what the most popular menu items were. I decided to take a risk and order the turkey hoagie. Let's just say it wasn't what I was expecting, but I wasn't disappointed at all. The reason for my 4 star rating is because the hoagie was a little dry for my liking. It did have the agave mustard sauce, but it could have used some vegan mayo slathered on each side of the roll in my opinion. Other than that, the ingredients were fresh. The tomato, lettuce and onion had a crunch. The "turkey" slices were flavorful with a smoked taste to them. I substituted the provolone cheese for American cheese. Each sandwich comes with a pickle and a side of chips. The chips seemed like they were made in house as they came in a brown paper bag. They reminded me of kettle chips. Pickle was okay. The amount of food you get is pretty decent for the price - if you're in the City and looking for a hoagie somewhere other than Wawa, I highly recommend checking out Luhv. read more

I really wish Luhv' existed in my city! During my weekend visit to Philly, I was on the hunt for quality vegan food and stumbled upon this gem. I ordered the vegan cheesesteak and was absolutely blown away by the flavor and texture of the seitan, combined with the gooey cheese, caramelized onions, and crunchy peppers. While I was there, I chatted with the clerk, who turned out to be the owner's son. He shared the mission of Luhv: to make delicious vegan food affordable and accessible, and I was amazed to find that the massive sandwich was only $10! So I go my second dose and then headed around the corner to Reading Terminal. I knew I'd need lunch and there isn't anything around my new job at the cheese sandwich factory. So I stumbled on the little Vegan deli. I'm not Vegan but I love to try everything. Honestly I eat a lot of meatless products because I prefer the taste. Also I'm chubby and red meat would make me cross the line between wearing a large or wearing an extra large. I panic picked the Italian. I figured it wouldn't require me making a bunch of choices. I was right! So then the hard part started....waiting for lunch. So lunch arrived at its normal time. The sandwich came with chips and a pickle. Both were good. The pickle was dinky. It was a fat ass pickle. The sandwich was awesome. I don't know how to really describe it because it didn't taste like any hoagie I've ever had. I've tried to buy vegan meats and cheeses before at the grocery store and didn't have a lot of success. I don't know what they do here but it was excellent! The bread is a higher grade than most sandwich shops too. It's not too soft or too hard. I do have to stress that it tastes nothing like a regular Italian. So if you are looking for that move on. My new fav place in reading terminal! Full of deli classics I love, and thought I'd never get to have again. First, this bread was HEAVENLY. Second, this pesto tasted like a fresh basil plant, AMAZING. The mozzarella was so perfect, I swear it was better than cows milk mozzarella. I'm a huge fan of Luhv's lunch meat. Unfortunately, they don't sell their lunch meat by the pound anymore, at this location. So, after walking the RTM a couple of times I settled on an Italian hoagie from LUHV. A very friendly man with beautiful locs waited on me. There wasn't a wait so my sandwich was ready pretty quickly. I believe it was $13 which I consider pricey, but most vegan food is expensive. In the past, I've always purchased my lunch meat and made my hoagies at home, so I was curious to see how this hoagie compared. The sandwich was a good size. The sandwich came with a couple of different types of vegan Italian lunch meat, vegan provolone, lettuce, tomatoes and lots of onions. It also came with a smidgen of vegan mayo. (Is there a vegan mayo shortage?) The roll was very dense, and I'm sad to say that the sandwich was very dry. The bread completely took over the sandwich, and the bread to lunch meat ratio was completely off. I was really hungry, so I did finish the sandwich, but it didn't knock my socks off. Needless to say, I was disappointed. So, in the future if I can get my hands on LUHV's lunch meat I'll make my own sandwich, at home. As many of my prior reviews indicate, I used to live in Philly but abruptly moved a few years ago. I snuck back to town for a few days this weekend. Our hotel was conveniently located about a block away from Reading so we decided to do something we pretty much never did while living here and pay Reading a visit for lunch. I cannot believe I never ate here when I lived painfully close by for years but tbh it is probably for the best because, as they say, a moment on the lips but forever on the hips. I was thrilled to see a vegan place and knew I had to sample what they have to offer. They have many of the deli classics in vegan form and settled on a sandwich I can literally never have because of my vegetarianism: an italian hoagie. I ordered 2 more of those and a chuna salad sandwich for my companions. The sandwiches were all thrown into a bag with pickles wrapped individually in some paper substance as well as accompanying servings of potato chips. I'm sure the reason for the packaging is some "compostable" shit but as it sometimes can be, was probably not the best choice because pickle juice or oil dripped to the bottom, weakening the bag's strength and threatening a bag sandwich sidewalk catastrophe. This created an urgency to get to our destination and precluded my 15 min of fame as abc 3 news was setting up for a news story on that very block. Anyway, we unwrapped these beauties when we arrived to our hotel. The hoagies are pretty big and photogenic. According to the menu on the website, they are supposed to have vegan cappicola, vegan ham, vegan salami, and vegan provolone. What we appeared to receive were 2 vegan "meats", spring mix, tomato, and red onion. Don't get me wrong, the sandwiches were fucking FANTASTIC and I guzzled that bad boy down in less than 2 min. But, they would have been even BETTER with provolone like an italian is supposed to have. It's disappointing to not have received what was intended. I hope this was a one off, maybe the main kitchen person was sick or some shit. I wish I had an opportunity to try more of their stuff. read more

I've purchased the Italian hoagie 3 times on 3 separate occasions. Every time I order it, the bread seems stale/dry. The meat is fine, it's just the sandwich and ingredients are way too dry with the amount of bread. SUGGESTION: Add a vinaigrette to the sandwich (Oregano, oil, seasonings etc) and include more Mayo or mustard. Dig some of the bread out of the hoagie roll. The sandwich needs more because it is extremely lackluster and leaves you underwhelmed. I have had high hopes and still do. Great concept, just needs some tweaking read more
