I've seen this place next to the Dollar store in the neighborhood, so I stopped in. There was a sign outside the said, Ladies Cuts - $20. I'm a man, and I'm used to prices being less for a man's cut, but when I went in, Orfelina said, "Is $20 all right?" before going back. I thought this was odd, but assumed that's how much it was. I'm disabled, so I don't always pick up on things quickly. The cut seemed okay, nothing stellar, and judging from the way it grew out, I can't say it was great. There was no styling, no shampoo, just a cut. When I went to leave, the other lady there said, "$12?" And I said, "That's not what I was told." Orfelina chimed in with, "Oh, he's $20." I paid the $20 and tipped my usual 20%, but I thought this was strange. I went home and looked online and discovered a woman's cut is normally $25 and a men's cut is $17. The sign outside was for $5 off , so my cut should have been $12, just like the lady at the cashier thought. But no, Orfelina had decided I should pay more. For $12, I could live with the mediocre cut because of the convenience, but I ended up paying double. I don't know why Orfelina decided I should pay more. Maybe it's the color of my skin. Maybe she sensed I was disabled. Maybe she's just a jerk who overcharges customers regularly. It doesn't matter why she did what she did - I won't be back. Note - double-checking the web site, the price is now listed at $40 for women's and $17 for men's. When I looked originally, I'm sure it said $25 for women's. In any case, I paid extra on discount day. read more

What a relief! FINALLY, an affordable salon that offers high quality, Aveda certified cuts and styles for curly girls! I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical when I drove up to Vee's. The neighborhood is a bit down at the heels, but this place is a little sanctuary. According to the lovely Mary (we'll get to her in a minute), the salon has been there 60 years, and has stayed in the area as the economy has waxed and waned. It has a small, intimate feel, almost like an alcove in someone's home, and has that lovely, herbal "Aveda" smell. I found the salon, and Mary in particular, via the salon finder at naturallycurly.com. Mary was warm and friendly, and actually took the time to evaluate my hair (SO important with curls) - the length, thickness, layers, previous cut, moisture level, etc. and made sure she gave me a cut that complimented the shape of my face and my low-maintenance approach to styling (blow drying? who has time for that?). Since I was going to an event that evening, I asked her to blow dry and flat iron it, and it looked gorgeous straight, too. All this (ambiance, great service, great cut and perfect style from an Aveda-certified practitioner) for only $40. I defy you to beat that! read more

What can I say? Vee's is amazing. Vee's gets 5 stars from me both for quality of service, but more than that, value. Same level of service as a spendy salon, but $20 for a cut? With Aveda-certified staff and products?? What more can you ask for? Yes, it's in a funky looking strip mall. Yes, the decor is perhaps a tad dated. I can't express how horrible this experience was. We had schedule my daughter 1st hair cut/trim here since its local and near. I talked to the owner and she stated her son Robert the stylist has done children hair. So we go in and from the start got a attitude from the receptionist. So Robert comes out and we go seat her. Well not even 1 min the receptionist has the need to come over take the appt and so there's 2 grown men working on my daughter hair. No social distancing at all. Meanwhile they are complain I about my daughter mixed hair she ia black/Hispanic. They kept saying we can't use water cause it make it worse... At this point I'm getting up asking whos the stylist and this is enough. At no point do they try to make this exp better or salvageable. They had no desire in dealing with my daughter hair. We were leaving as the owner says something and doesn't even question why we are leaving. I will never step foot in the business. They definitely made my daughter feel unworthy and felt racial profile. I also called they never answered my calls. So this is why I'm leaving review. read more

I can't believe how disappointed I was with my experience here--mainly because this is an Aveda salon, and also because the other reviews gave FIVE stars (?!?). The only thing AMAZING I experienced was how amazingly sorry I am that I did check it out. I just moved here, or else I'd never be tempted to find a new salon. That said, with as frequently as I move, I can usually count on an Aveda salon to offer consistent results. I know this is a longer review, but when I have to give negative feedback, I prefer to be specific--what was an issue for me not be one for you... This salon is in a very strange location right next to a Dollar General and has-been little street that took waaaay to long for me to drive to, but it looked like it would be worth it from the reviews. Calling it a sanctuary may be going a little too far. Inside, you can see layers of every one of those decades it's been open, from dated tiles, wood wall paneling, and hello floral 90's upholstery and golden mirrors. Then they top it off with super modern touches like sage green paint and river rocks in the bathroom sink. It ALMOST works with a sort of garden cottage-y kind of vibe, but I stress the almost... And although they use Aveda products, they didn't follow through with other aspects of the Aveda experience, like offering a beverage when you arrive, the head and shoulder massage, etc. It's those little touches of pampering that make going to an Aveda salon worth the little extra you spend, and if those touches are absent, what's the point? Don't talk to me about the lower price at this place--I only paid $35-$40 at my Aveda salons in North Carolina, California, and Florida, so to me, this place actually seemed overpriced for what it was. I ended up with Yolanda. First of all, you should be aware that Yolanda and another lady (perhaps her daughter?) had almost the exact same shoulder length hair cut, something I wish I had noticed BEFORE scissors got anywhere near me, as I now have basically the same style. The only other lady I saw was the one in the pics (really short, curled hair). Yolanda did a pretty thorough consultation, asking me about products I use, how I wear my hair, etc. I showed her EXACTLY how long I wanted it to be and emphasized several times I just wanted a trim, not a new style, and wanted to keep it LONG. I told her I especially didn't want choppy, distinct layers! Since I'm only giving two stars, surely you know this didn't go well. I DID get layers--the top being almost straight across around my shoulder line, and the bottom with a big dip. This bottom layer was what technically kept my hair "long", but from the front, I was devastated to see how short it was!!! The worst part was that after I got home, that long layer in the back kept falling forward over my shoulders so it looked like I had a bunch of really short hair, and one really long inch-wide chunk hanging down beneath that. I dealt with it for a week, grieving that it's going to take six months to grow my hair out again, and trying everything I could to like the haircut, fixing it naturally curly, straight, and curled with a curling iron and NOTHING worked--I always ended up with a pony tail or bun just to hide it. Finally, I called to make an appointment for her to fix it. Pretty much the only thing she could do was cut that longest bottom layer shorter and straighter. So now I have an average, I-can-live-with-it-but-still-hate-it, shoulder-length-salon-specialty "TRIM" that ended up taking off about four inches. The only reason I can even give two stars is that at least she did let me come in for her to adjust it for free. I was totally disappointed and won't be back. read more

I am giving this place 1 Star only because I did get a nice haircut. However I did have to listen to the owner and another customer talk loudly about how black lives matter protesters don't deserve any respect because they aren't quiet enough, how they don't want men in their daughters bathrooms because that's just not safe referring of course to the current transgender bathroom issue, and how it should never be legal for anyone other than a man and a woman to get married.. the place is not clean the chairs are falling apart and it really needs an overhaul in both philosophy and physical appointment. Do not go here! The service is awful, it took the lady almost and hour and a half for what was supposed to be a trim but she ended up cutting 4 inches off. Her technique was outdated and when i called to complain they hung up on me. read more
