I revisit this place again after a while. Now the bistro is open from 11 am- 3pm. It may open longer later, who knows? I had their vegan tacos and taquitos. I bought them to go. The vegan soy chicken tacos were AWESOME. The chef bbq the soy chicken on a fire grill so the chicken had the charred taste. I really like it. The vegan taquitos are a bit bland for my taste. I think it would have been better if he uses shredded soy chicken and marinate the soy chicken with some mexican seasoning before they were rolled in the tortilla. However, they are pretty crispy and crunchy. I love the texture of the taquitos, the green sauce and chopped avocado comes with it. It is just not spiced as I like it. I prefer the tacos. The price is pretty reasonable for a street taco size. It was $1.25. I shopped in this market again and was having fun finding bulk stuff in the frozen section. I bought vegan fish (the nori wrapped kind) and frozen tofu and veggie sausages. The store was clean and even the restroom was clean. I will definitely will be back. I wish that this store is near to where I live. I have to bring a cooler with some ice to make sure all the frozen items stay frozen till I get home. Can I just tell you how happy I am to find a store that has all of my vegan meat desires under one roof?! There is "beef", "chicken", "pork", "shrimp"- basically all of the mock meats that are difficult to find elsewhere. Parking is a breeze, crowds are not a problem and you can zip in and out in no time. My only bah humbug is that they aren't open on Sundays when I'm in the area but that's for me to figure out. The health food store is open daily until 6pm. I picked some "fig newtons" that were vegan with berry filling, vegan and sugar free buckwheat biscuit cookies, and some carrot soup. I am not sure why someone is threatened by the fact that the mock meats are made in Taiwan or China. American processed food has more shit in it than an outhouse and that is WITH FDA approval. The bistro chef is super friendly and took such care and pride in the preparation of our meals, balancing the cilantro and tomatoes just right for the perfect presentation. I shop at Vege USA's retail store, as well as eat at their in-house bistro. The experience here has been very, very good -- it feels good to have found a one-stop vegetarian/vegan soy product shop (indeed this is their corporate and distribution hub), where I can stock up to feed my family. Alternatively, I like to stop by the bistro had enjoy Chef Rameses seasonal culinary creations for lunch. Here's what I tried for lunch yesterday: - Emerald Tofu Wrap http://goo.gl/C9fn9: WOW. First bite had me. Very flavorful, and super fresh. The tofu has a meaty mouth feel. Chef shops for his produce the day of, and preps it all himself. He also carefully cooks it up and presents it to your table. Can't ask for better customer service than that! Alright here is the update as I have now tried every tacos. Please read my original review first. The soy protein is still great. The texture is mind blowing. The tacos are just all a little too similar. The BBQ sauce was ok 4.Teriyaki: The flavor of the sauce overpowers everything on this dish. I will not recommend it unless you love teriyaki. One of the issues I have with vegetarian foods is that it is just not as flavorful as the real thing. I was in the Monrovia area, and this place came up on my Yelp search. You have to look for this place since the signage is not very good and the building it's in looks like an office building. It's focus is mostly on the store but there is a good sized bistro. The menu is a bit limited, but I went with the BBQ "Chicken" Wrap which was $9. The food was ready pretty quickly and it comes with a small salad. The wrap itself is also of good size and comes with hot sauce. This is far the best "veggie" wrap I've had so far. To be honest, the only reason why I come here is for the little restaurant. You will see the restaurant right when you come inside this place. This place is known for the tacos ($1.90 each). This is what I had: Marinated "chicken" taco- very tasty and an excellent texture (the texture isn't exactly like meat, but if you just judge this for it's taste and not comparing it to the real thing, you would love this) This is my favorite of the 3 I had. Citrus "fish" taco- sweet flavor and quite delicious. Texture was very good as well. BBQ "chicken" taco- this taco came with a tasty and savory sauce. Loved the flavor of it. The texture is also very good. (I am not vegetarian by the way, but do love eating vegetarian food). Presentation of my tacos was beautiful and definitely a feast for the eyes. My tacos were served on a very large white plate, making it look like I'm in an upscale, fancy- smancy place. The one and only chef here is pretty nice and knows how to plate his meals. Pricing is a bit expensive for the portion. The salad I saw was pretty tiny for $8-$10 that I wouldn't try, just solely on the price. Oh by the way, you order and pay at the register (pass the kitchen/ cafe area) that is on the left hand side and then you can go sit in the seat area to get your food order. Overall, delicious food and would like to come back here and introduce some friends and family to this place (but for lunch since this place is only open limited hours). Vege USA is the best place to find plant-based meats. They've been my go-to for years. I used to love chef's taco / wrap counter. He was a wealth of knowledge and had the best tacos. Some of my faves from Vege USA are their unflavored chicken strips, jerky (dangerous because it's so addictive), vegan fresh fish, mutton (got a tip from chef that it works well for a beef substitute, but does have 5 spice powder flavor), vegan lobster, and vegan crab. Unfortunately, you have to call your order in. Pre-Covid, you'd be able to roll a shopping cart down the aisles and choose from a wide array of veg / vegan meats from refrigerated display cases. This has become one of my favorite new place to eat!!! It was the Lunar New Year Day and as a tradition, I eat vegan for the day. I had forgotten to pack lunch for the day, so I was looking around my work area for a good veggie place. A co-worker suggested this place and after yelping it, I was convince to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. When you enter the place, you see the open kitchen. The restaurant is a part of the grocery store and it only open during certain hours (11-2?). After glancing at their menu and their daily special, I decided to try their vegan bbq chicken taco, their vegan fish taco, and taquitos. The bbq chicken taco had the texture of chicken and the bbq sauce had a nice kick to it. The fish taco was crunchy and had a nice mango salsa on it. But my ultimate favorite was the taquitos. It was a vegan chicken taquitos, that was top with avocado and a green salsa. It was spicy, crispy and just yummy! I took my lunch to-go, but they do have tables for you to sit and enjoy your meal and also the counter so that you can watch the chefs cook your meal. I drove 1 HOUR to get there to buy what I needed and as I tried to go in, I was stopped by an employee to tell me that they were closed for the day. I Walked into this place to try out the vegetarian food. I placed an order with the women at the cashier & apparently the store and the Food are separate businesses because after I had already placed my order the chef had informed the cashier that he doesn't open until 11 which was an hour from the time that I had gotten there. The cashier took about 30 minutes to refund me back my money because she looked like she didn't know how to work the register and was getting flustered. Why is this place such a secret? You would never stumble across it without word of mouth. Lucky for me, someone finally shed the light on this place and I had my first meal there today. They also have a kitchen (slash) snack bar on site.. And while we originally came here to procure my beloved nuggets, We couldn't resist but have a taste. We went with the Southwestern Wrap, Crab Cakes, Chicken and Fish tacos. The Crab Cakes were a big hit for the little lady, while the fish tacos were my favorite. So these 2 dishes, I'd recommend if you ever find yourself here. And of course, how could I forget, My Chix Nuggets. The market part of this location is very niche and specific, so don't expect to come here to get your regular grocery list items. What you do come here for are items you prolly would not find anywhere else, just like in my case with my chix nuggets. All in all, The food served here is fresh, interesting and exquisitely tasty. Vege USA has a bistro and a retail available to customers. The bistro is home to none other than Chef Ramesis, whose passion and expertise make his dishes both aesthetically and tastefully pleasing. I took a shot at every taco on his menu (BBQ Chicken, Teriyaki, Citrus, Taquito, and one more I forgot). Definitely try the BBQ! The chicken meshes very well with the mango topping. If you could eat onions, do say yes to him adding onions, it gives the taco quite the kick. As a non-vegan, I must say it is very hard to distinguish the vegan chicken from real chicken. If possible, eat the food right away. Food always tastes best fresh, and this is no different for the bistro's food. Right next to the bistro is the retail--a house to quite the sum of groceries. Most of the products are in large packages, so don't be surprised when you find yourself wondering if you will be able to finish all of it. The foods have a long shelf life though, so do not fret--they won't go bad any time soon. Inventory is quite diverse, ranging from jerky to tea leaves, boba to tofu (my personal favorite). Though the prices of the goods are not dirt cheap, Vege USA's products are definitely of high quality. You definitely get what you pay for. If you pay a visit to Vege USA, I highly recommend grabbing something from the bistro as well. Arguably the best tacos I've ever had, even including tacos I've had before I went vegetarian. They're only about 1.50 per taco and they're incredible. I also go to this place exclusively to pick up no-meat jerky. They have a Huge selection of vegan meat, both dried and frozen, good selection of Indian sauces (had a few, all very good). The cheerful cook (possibly also the owner) there is always excited for business and makes sure everyone is happy. If I had any complaint I'd say I want them open later so I can more tacos for dinner. read more

OK...really want to give this place 4 stars... but the guy behind the counter is awesome and then it heads up to 5 stars. But with some minor negatives. Very minor. Let me first get them out of the way. The place from the outside looks more like some office building or a hair salon. Going in through the glass doors, I am taken aback even more. What the heck is this place. I see some tables on the left... a food counter on the right. Order at the food counter? Wait...sign... sign says to order with cashier. But who is the cashier? Where is the cashier? Helpful guy behind food counter says... go order with other guy and points. Ahh... but order what. Very awkward if this is your first time to stand at the cashier looking at a menu. Thank God there was not a line. Then the drinks. This is really odd. Order a can of soda. Cashiers asks me to go back to food counter and grab can of kind I want. I do and hand it to him... note it is warm. What? He uses it to scan in or something and then tells me to go to the attached grocery store to get my soda. Then he walks back with the warm can and carefully places it back in the soda line there. Nothing horrible... just odd. Then there is some "serial" style of cooking... as in what happens in most lunch trucks. You may have ordered...but what you do not know is the queue and what has been phoned in. We sat and waited while 3 other lunches were put together and bagged for take out... before he even started on my order. I guess if he had just said "thanks, I have a few orders ahead of you so it will be ten minutes before I cook your's" I would have been less surprised. So at this point you might be thinking... sounds like you do not like the place... mister negative. But you would be wrong. Because in the end, it is about the food. The soup was amazing. The helpful food guy totally offered to split soup into different bowls. We ordered a few different tacos and they were smaller... you will want to have a few of them... but they are only $1.50 and they ROCK. These were so good. Chef Ramses always has something new for us! Corrina A, I wouldn't be so quick to stereotype, as we all know, imported food products into the United States go through various inspections by various government agencies and port authority; it's not like say...contraband. Of course, American companies aren't too trustworthy either, say Cargill (Honeysuckle brand) which just recalled 36 million pounds of ground turkey due to a salmonella scare. read more

Ok, just a heads up, the food for this place alone gets FIVE stars. The four stars is only for the fact that the cafe closes at three, the cashier almost never seems prepared, and there is hardly any seating. But those drawbacks are completely unrelated to the quality of the food. I mean, how lucky are we to even have a place that sells exclusively vegan / vegetarian food?? This place is a gem with an AMAZING cafe and a super friendly and talented chef. If you are either vegan or vegetarian this place is a MUST for you. And thanks to its mini supermarket, I can finally eat char siu bao again--vegan of course! I've had the crabcake salad and vegan tacos (for $2 each, you can't beat them!) and my boyfriend always gets the Southwest Chicken Wrap. All of them are superb. Can't wait to come back and introduce my non-vegetarian friends to the culinary joy that is this place. read more
