Grocery store is closed due to Covid
    Marta M.

I would give them a higher rating since they do have great food. However I'm disappointed they don't update their hours or their website. I drove 45 minutes to get here and it was CLOSED :/ It seems (based on a previous review from two weeks ago) that it had been open, but that's not the case any longer. It would be nice if they could update the public.

Front of building. But you will park and enter in the back.

I have been waiting for this little bistro to open so I was excited when I read it finally heated up the burners. It's quite nice, clean, and modern on the inside http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hmx1p66mA9XRSmo4YMcn2Q?select=jZIaso24DAIlLkOg-M6CqQ . It's like a little health food store with vegan biscuits, crackers, ramen noodles, cereals, etc. If you are familiar with whole foods or natural foods, you will recognize brand names like Amy's, Nature's Organics, Bob's Red Mill flours and grains, and more. The freezer section is immense with every kind of mock meat imaginable from squid to ham. They also have vegan cheeses. The Bistro hours are limited to 11-3 on week day onlys. The health food store is open daily until 6pm. I picked some "fig newtons" that were vegan with berry filling, vegan and sugar free buckwheat biscuit cookies, and some carrot soup. I am not sure why someone is threatened by the fact that the mock meats are made in Taiwan or China. American processed food has more shit in it than an outhouse and that is WITH FDA approval. The bistro chef is super friendly and took such care and pride in the preparation of our meals, balancing the cilantro and tomatoes just right for the perfect presentation. It was like watching Food Network! I have tried all the 99 cent vegan chicken tacos and my meat loving friend who think no meal should be without dead animal loved the tacos. I am pretty sure you could fool someone if you didn't mention it was not really chicken. The BBQ taco is my fave http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hmx1p66mA9XRSmo4YMcn2Q?select=Pqq9OI8cU1XtvNRID5O2pA. The taquitos with avo on top were really good also http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hmx1p66mA9XRSmo4YMcn2Q?select=Oz-XeRGsJ3yP_kOWjvxn1w. I added some of my own taco sauce to them and my friend thought they needed something a little more "saucy" to moisten them up, like that green avocado sauce that many taquitos come with. The South Western Wrap was tasty with its lentil and corn spread http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hmx1p66mA9XRSmo4YMcn2Q?select=A2u5l7JNEHIgukRyXPESZA. The sandwiches are nice with the fresh baked vegan bread and choice of side salad. What would be even better is if there was a whole grain choice of vegan bread. Maybe one day! The Summer salad is delish with agave sweetened pecans and arugula http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hmx1p66mA9XRSmo4YMcn2Q?select=NwHFhfhEtUn1FqAXkvQy3g! Several meat eaters tried the turkey sandwich and really liked it http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hmx1p66mA9XRSmo4YMcn2Q?select=GkUTNeeoo6ZAcuzslOZITg. Chef Rameses is in the process of getting chairs and tables so you will have a nice place to sit down while you enjoy your cholesterol free lunch. He is also accredited and said he will bring in culinary students to train. So come on in and support a vegan lunch counter and culinary students!

I shop at Vege USA's retail store, as well as eat at their in-house bistro. The experience here has been very, very good -- it feels good to have found a one-stop vegetarian/vegan soy product shop (indeed this is their corporate and distribution hub), where I can stock up to feed my family. Alternatively, I like to stop by the bistro had enjoy Chef Rameses seasonal culinary creations for lunch. Here's what I tried for lunch yesterday: - Emerald Tofu Wrap http://goo.gl/C9fn9: WOW. First bite had me. Very flavorful, and super fresh. The tofu has a meaty mouth feel. Chef shops for his produce the day of, and preps it all himself. He also carefully cooks it up and presents it to your table. Can't ask for better customer service than that! The ponzu sauce was perfect for dipping, and the mustard honey dressing made the organic greens spring to life. YUM. - Marinated Chicken Taco http://goo.gl/xMQEg: very petite and very tasty. Vege USA has the soy-to-meat texture down (and mind you, if you're looking total meat flavor/texture comparison, soy products are not and never will be that, but they do give good chewiness), and Chef knows his marinades to made it all scrumptious. Love the smokey flavor from the grill! - Citrus Veggie Pork Sparerib Tacos http://goo.gl/ipR64: YUM. I could eat a truckload of these. Bottled drinks are self-serve at the end of the refrigerated section, and you order and pay for your purchase at the cash register. Take a seat and Chef will be right out to with your order. Be aware the the bistro gets slammed around 11am with the lunch crowd, but is open until 3pm (Mondays - Fridays). Since I arrived at 1:30pm, some of the items were sold out (watermelon gazpacho, and whitefish taco), which just goes to show how popular they are! My meal kept me full until evening time. Body felt light and happy from the thoughtfully prepared, fresh food, and satiated. Thank you Chef Rameses and Vege USA!

Alright here is the update as I have now tried every tacos. Please read my original review first. The soy protein is still great. The texture is mind blowing. The tacos are just all a little too similar. See picture below http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=uKxUtSvo1An9d1xbQOiidA The food is still beautiful and inexpensive ( though small portions) 1. The taquitos are my favorite as they come with tons of avocado and in a crispy taco 2. The SpareRibs Citrus taco is my favorite taco. It is on the sweet side bu t the combo of pineapple and mango tastes great. A good taco 3. BBQ: Same topping different sauce. The BBQ sauce was ok 4.Teriyaki: The flavor of the sauce overpowers everything on this dish. I will not recommend it unless you love teriyaki. I still have to try other items on the menu like the soup and the subs ( but it looks like so much bread!!!) Stay tune.

Get the greek style turkey wrap. AMAZING. 4 stars because unless you have been there before, you feel a bit lost. Its a grocery store/restaurant and we walked in, the cashier did not acknowledge us and we had no idea if we were supposed to sit down and wait for the waiter or what ? We were just standing there until a nice customer helped us out. BUT THE WRAP WAS AMAZING.

This has become one of my favorite new place to eat!!! It was the Lunar New Year Day and as a tradition, I eat vegan for the day. I had forgotten to pack lunch for the day, so I was looking around my work area for a good veggie place. A co-worker suggested this place and after yelping it, I was convince to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. When you enter the place, you see the open kitchen. The restaurant is a part of the grocery store and it only open during certain hours (11-2?). After glancing at their menu and their daily special, I decided to try their vegan bbq chicken taco, their vegan fish taco, and taquitos. The bbq chicken taco had the texture of chicken and the bbq sauce had a nice kick to it. The fish taco was crunchy and had a nice mango salsa on it. But my ultimate favorite was the taquitos. It was a vegan chicken taquitos, that was top with avocado and a green salsa. It was spicy, crispy and just yummy! I took my lunch to-go, but they do have tables for you to sit and enjoy your meal and also the counter so that you can watch the chefs cook your meal. I recommended this place to a couple of my co-workers, and they loved it too. Even if you're not a vegan, the favors are so good that you don't even realize that there is no meat!

Gourmet Vegan Tacos: Vegan BBQ chicken, Vegan marinated fish, Vegan white fish, Vegan citrus spareribs! Each one is so good!

What a lovely hidden gem! Came here to try their vegan tacos and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered one of each taco for $1.90/each. FOOD All of the tacos were delicious, but the vegan citrus spareribs were a little too sweet. My favorites were the fried "fish" taco and the "chicken" with mango salsa! The chef is really nice and puts a lot of care into constructing each taco. VENUE Front the outside, it just looks like a commercial building. The front door of the place is hard to find, but just follow the signs. There are only a few small tables inside because they are firstly a health food store and this is their test kitchen. Would come back.

Fish taco and a southwest wrap. Delish!

    Do they accept EBT Food?

Hello, No, I'm sorry but EBT Food is not accepted.

Is your outlet is open to by product if yes what time to what time?

Hello, sorry for the delayed answer. The retail store is closed but you can call 24 hrs in advance to place an order for pickup.

10/30/24 : Is this business open and, if so, is the kitchen still making their delicious food? If not, anyone know where the chef went? He was phenomenal!

Hello, apologies for the delayed response. The business is open but the kitchen has been closed for several years.

Are they closed for good I just visited on 10/28/22 at 12pm and all the shelves where empty and doors were locked?

Retail store is close temporarily but they are still taking orders over the phone or on their web site.

Is there some sort of list or something to see what products they carry? I see that you must now call and pick up your order but i am unaware of the selection.

Hello Romana! Thank you for asking this question! We have an online marketplace for our products at www.myrtlegreens.com where you can browse. The prices listed there are very high because many of our products would need to be shipped frozen, but…

Do they sell the vegan shrimp here?

    They sure do!!

Review #904 2025-#078…read more I discovered Good Fortune Supermarket because it shares parking with Yi Mei (refer to Review #903). I had some time to kill before having brunch with my brother, so my son & I browsed the supermarket to see if there's any goods that are interesting or a good deal. The market is well-stocked & organized, but the floors are dingy & screams for a deep clean. Yikes! Though the items on the shelves look like there's been turnaround since they're not dusty. Whew! =) Its offerings are similar to the local Asian markets, with a little less variety at slightly higher prices. The fresh fruits were absurdly pricey IMO, but there were a few "sales" though they're still higher than regular pricing elsewhere. Since we're over an hour from home, I only picked up some snacks like roasted peanuts (I love the Farmer Brand!), fermented hawthorn, & some biscuits. The cashiers were friendly... asked if I found everything I needed, & also greeted my son & asked if hawthorn is his favorite treat. While I didn't have any 好運氣 (good fortune) in finding any deals, I get some yummy treats for my 6 YO to nosh on while waiting for my brother. I prefer the Main St. location in Alhambra, but they've been temporarily closed since 09/2024; I usually shop there when I'm in the area because of the eateries nearby. I don't think I'll be making any return trips unless I'm dining next door.
