OK, F**K this store! It sucks that it's the only grocery store in downtown Monrovia. In the past year, there have been FIVE TIMES I have bought groceries from here and gotten them home and they have been EXPIRED. Like, not just a little bit, but by MONTHS. Dairy, juice, deli items, drinks... After the last time this happened, I mentioned it to a friend, whose friend works here. Apparently, they know they are selling expired stock, but they count on people not being bothered bringing it back. They will only take it off the shelves if it is more than 6 months out of date! Otherwise, they leave it there for people to buy. Second, they have been doing the most shitass renovations on this store for months, yet it's in no way improved the place. Apparently, while they're doing work in the produce section they don't cover anything, so if you have been buying produce from here since the renovations, you've been eating fruit and veg covered in chemicals and all sorts of building materials particles. Not only are both points disgusting and dangerous, they are ILLEGAL. I don't know who this store needs to be reported to, but it needs doing, because businesses can't operate like this. read more

Been a several months, but was close by and needed items. Prices are high (compared to grocery outlet), of course only have automated check but since I was buying wine they can't do this in automated checkout... so you end up in line at the one checkout with many full carts. I asked about opening another line and they said plainly 'no'. So in short, very bad customer service, bad prices. And the place looks like its in a war zone (don't know if this is temp constructions or what not). BUt no signs anywhere apologizing for the mess or when it might be better. Dont' go there. Find a locally run something else. Personally I like Grocery Outlet... Sure hate to be an employee at Vons, I'm sure glass door has a lot of unhappy employees for reasons of upset customers and bad pay, but I don't know that part. read more

I don't generally shop at Vons but the biggest perk is that they have a pre-packaged salad that is almost exclusively all of the greens that bearded dragons eat (collard, radish, mustard greens) all nicely cut up. They were in stock here and my little guy has his greens for the next 1.5 weeks or so. They have self check out there and one of those Poke'mon vending machines as well as a Starbucks. Plenty of parking in the plaza. No complaints here. read more

I ordered a Frozen Elsa-themed cake from Vons for my daughter's birthday. The ordering process on the website was simple and clear. However, on the day of the party, I received a call saying their printer was not working, so they couldn't print the design. They said they would add a toy instead -- I agreed, trying to stay flexible. Unfortunately, the writing on the cake looked terrible, and I had to ask them to remove it. Then, during the party, when we cut the cake, I realized the filling was not what I ordered. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience on such an important day. They suck. They can't deliver food that's fresh. They delivered a cantaloupe to me that had a rotten spot that was oozing. there were other things that were wrong with the order such as 2 L of soda that were supposed to be diet, but they were regular. In today's food ad, they no longer have the QR code that you can scan that allows you to click coupon savings. You have to go into their app and go through a myriad of products and clip the ones you want and it takes forever. Last of all, my 82-year-old mother went to the store to return some of the items that were wrong, and they gave her a hard time saying that I was not a member of Vons and that I had bought my groceries through a third-party. This was of course, not true. The rude sales woman refused to return some of the items for her. I am tired of shopping there. It's time to give someone else a chance. read more

This location really needs to do better with their produce. About 90% of the time I shop here, the produce is always bad. Greens are wilted and discolored, fruits are bruised or filled with mold, or they don't have what I need in stock. I find myself having to drive to the Pasadena Vons location for fresher produce, which is an inconvenience. I don't remember this location being so bad years ago. Something must have changed, but they need to make more of an effort before people start getting sick. read more

Love my local Vons! Deli department always has delicious deli meats, and a lot of side options such as the new Hawaiian macaroni' salad, potato salads etc. I love the meat department and all the choices they have. There is a product that I enjoy. Not many stores carry it. Vons has it a few times a week but very small quantities. I received a rain check about 6 weeks ago for the sale price. I went today and they had the exact number I wanted. However in the small print they now limit rain checks to 30 days. I have shopped there for 23 years and used rain checks that I'd held onto for 6 months. I am extremely disappointed that this change has occurred. There should be larger print or at least a hand written use by date. The other issue is that this product is often sold out and unless I go there every day it would be difficult to use the rain check within 30 days. Not happy with this issue and with the prices they charge it's already ridiculous. They should be trying to bring in people. read more

This review is mainly for the awesome and convenient DMV machine they have inside! I had no idea this existed! My friend told me about this and I had to come check it out for myself. You just bring your dmv auto registration renewal notice and scan the barcode on the machine then pay! The sticker and your registration gets printed out immediately after paying. It takes less than 3 minutes for the entire process. Amazing and super convenient! It only accept card and Apple Pay just a fyi. This isn't my go-to grocery store but I do stop by randomly since it's close by to me. Groceries are always stocked and clean. I enjoy their desserts in the back like the sliced chocolate cake! Parking is shared with other businesses but it is a breeze since it's a huge lot. Good establishment overall and glad we have a Vons in Monrovia. read more

COVID-19: Social distancing is not enforced at this establishment. Some of the staff wears a mask. All customers are not expected to wear a mask. It's optional now. Some of the staff also wears gloves. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is open and available with no limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was grabbing my groceries from this establishment several days ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is massive. So many spots for you to choose from. Take your pick. I can see why this store has only a two star overall rating. I was really hoping for a better experience at this Vons since I moved to Monrovia as it's the closest grocery store to me. Every time I go in there, even on a Friday afternoon or weekend day, there is NEVER more than one or two registers open. And something always goes wrong after standing in a long line. Cashiers are obviously not trained well at all. Today, just one visit of many, the gal could not get her register to accept payment for the guy in front of me, so her register freezes and she moved me and ALL my stuff to another register. That one had a black screen so I could not even see if I was getting my discounts. No one seemed to know how to fix it including a rude manager "Alexis" acting as if she is "put out" by being asked to help. After all that, they still want to charge me for bags! Bad business and poor management in scheduling and training employees. I am also starting to think the Vons Corp has no standards in who they hire. I will give one star only that goes to the deli department who is more helpful and knows a lot more than the store manager. read more

I've been avoiding reviewing here bc I hate to be negative - but this will definitely be my very last visit to this location. I live nearby and this location is so convenient - so I've really really tried to give it a chance and I've been here many times over the past few years. But I must say, this is one of the worst stores. I've had maybe two staff members me be nice to me - one of the cashiers and one of the meat market staff...everyone else is rude or ignores you. And the clientele are almost always rude. People get super aggressive in the parking lot. It's always packed. Avoid Friday nights and weekends bc it's absolute mayhem. I've even had two occasions where customers have yelled at me and others in the store. It blows my mind. Sadly today I had to use the restroom and it was so disgusting - worst bathroom I've ever been in. I tried both of them and they were equally foul so I had to choose the lesser of two filthy evils. There was some liquid absolutely dripping from almost all surfaces - the baby changing station was covered in dark brown dirt, pools of liquid and some red stuff smeared all over. There was a gaping hole below the sink positively stuffed with toilet paper. And the floor was drenched in god knows what. It seriously made me question the sanitation habits of this store. Their prices always seem to be a little higher than everyone else's in the area. Definitely shouldn't be charging higher prices. Totally unjustified. I always think maybe they're short staffed but they never have a shortage of staff standing around chatting to each other so that can't be it. This review is specifically for the cake section. My regular grocery store has been Ralph's as of late. I decided to switch over to Vons this one time, mostly because I was in need to get a photo printed on a cake and Ralph's printer wasn't working. To get a photo printed on a cake is $8 which is not bad. Where they fell short is that the end result wasn't what I had asked for. It was even more frustrating since they had already had a plain design of the cake I wanted, I just needed a photo slapped on it. The other complaint was the fact that the. employee assisting me had only been on the job for a week or two, so for every question I had, he would have to go to the back to confirm if they can do it or not - at this point, why not send a seasoned staff member to assist me if this employee has to go back for every question? It didn't make sense. Regardless, the main idea of the cake was to have a photo printed on there, and it was done for $8 plus the price of the cake. Not the cake I wanted, but whatevs. read more

Wow.... We purchased "Open Nature Sesame Flatbread crackers" this evening (12/29/23) . They tasted terrible! Turns out the sell by date is JUN 17/23, yes it's six months old!!! How can management accept this. How does no one from Vons catch this. Be careful. We just picked up our a turkey at Ralphs and it was defrosted for some reason when we ordered it. The little guy behind the counter in meat said it would last to Thanksgiving which is a week away. It may not be just be to sell it, but I've looked online and everywhere it says cook within one to two days. I don't think he'd give it to his kids. Your employee Diane, who was working at a register Wednesday afternoon is a CONTINUOUS problem. I avoid going in the morning entirely just so I don't have a chance of being in her line. She is EXTREMELY RUDE, unable to perform the basic requirements of working a register, such as counting the money handed to her or bagging groceries and screams "I don't have to serve you!" This is an odd store; in a good way, though. I was debating giving this a lower rating, but came to realize a couple of things. This store is run fantastically well. It is a staple of the community for a long time at this location, according to my research. It is extremely well-kept; and the employees here show genuine happiness on their faces and pride in their work! Amazing. However , the prices ... Ummm.. (cue dramatic effect) $5.00 for a small slice of chocolate cake; that really isn't thaaat remarkable.. Paper towels starting at $3.99 ... organic celery starting at.... What? I get it; the times we are in; plus the surrounding area is really quite nice - but it seems a little overreach if you ask me. Well; good thing for fuel points and the VON's App for the occasional freebie I suppose! Overall though - my family & I truly love this store. It's extremely well-cleaned. The floral department is second to an actual florist in my opinion. The grocery & pet selections are unbeatable. Also the pharmacy - probably one of the most fully-staffed and well stocked I ever encountered inside a traditional supermarket! Not to mention the deli! You can find deals... and heck.. there's even an in-store Starbucks (also very fully-stocked).. just some prices are well; just leave it at that! Just got back about an hour ago. Bummed with lack of customer service. Decided to spread my spending to support different businesses. Usually go to Albertsons 5 min from the house. Today drove 20 min to support this store. Went to buy 5 ribeye steaks and fresh corn for my daughters bday. Couldnt find any fresh corn so I asked the produce guy. He said."oh..we have some. We keep them on the shelf by the carrots. There are none there. I have boxes in the back. It will be a while before I start to unpack them on the shelf." I was disappointed. Any time I have gone to Albertsons, El Superior, or Ralph's, the produce guys will without hesitation offer go to the back to get me some after asking me "how many do you need?" I have been coming to this store for many, many years due to the proximity to my home. It's just a few blocks away. This was a very good store when it was a Pavilions. Then it was a good store when they had two great managers a number of years ago (Jim and Bart). Unfortunately, the store continues to deteriorate. Many times shelves are depleted, the facing is weak. The store cleanliness is diminished. The carts are damaged, etc. Just a low level of attention to detail in general. The employees in the past were adults with many years of experience, most of those folks have retired and been replaced with high school aged kids who display no sense of urgency or customer service. Finally, and most irritating, the number of checkers is generally minimal, perhaps 1 or 2, and during busy times, say after normal work hours, the lines are ridiculously long at the check stands. They are trying to force the customers to self-checkout. I guess saving a few bucks on checkers per hour is more important than the customer's experience. I am continuously disappointed in the shopping experience at this store, and I am irritated at myself that I don't take the time to drive to another store given the close proximity to my home. read more
