While I stick to Costco and Trader Joe's for most of the Italian basics, Claro's is where I come for the next level stuff, and the prices are very reasonable. Risotto rice! Calabrian chilies! Guanciale!!!! The meat deli is amazing. Kobe roast beef!!! You can even sample their stuff too before you get it. Service is super friendly and helpful. Sandwiches are delicious. First time in and I am a fan! It's a market with a deli inside. You take a number for the deli and their menu is insane with a bunch of options!! Definitely hard to choose but we settled with Angry Joe and Grandma Gerry. While waiting for our sandwiches to be made, we walked around the market and picked up hot crushed peppers and peanut butter homemade cookies!! Order Of Operations: 1) Get a ticket 2) Wait for your number to be called 3) State your wants and needs, 4) Receive your wants and needs, and head to the register to pay for your stuff. 5) Exit shop and either go home or eat at their communal tables located in the back of the shop in the parking lot. Service: Service is pretty good. They're friendly and informative about their shop. Food comes out at a decent time. Sandwich Of Choice: So far I'v had the Grandpa Joe sandwich, which consists of capocollo, mortadelia, dry salame, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, sliced pepperoncini and oil dressing. If you want a great Italian Sandwich then go to Claros. For me if it is a cold sub the "Great Grandpa Joe" is my favorite! Ample Italian cold cuts on a roll with oil & vinegar! So good and these are large too! Now for the hot sandwich we prefer the meatball sub with melted cheese. There is something so good about how the bread gets just mushy enough but hold up to these awesome meatballs and sauce. We are in the desert now and miss this place so much so we go down to San Gabriel valley and make sure we stop here! The store is also great with prepared foods, bread, pizza bread, italian cookies, wines, candy, pasta and just about anything a good Italian can ask for! My boyfriend and his sandwiches. For lunch, we decided to go to Claro's Italian Markets in Arcadia so he can satisfy his sandwich cravings. Claro's is an Italian Market but all of the locations I do to also has a deli section that makes fresh sandwiches. I usually stop by Claros about once a month for a deli sandwich. Today I decided to try the hot food. Ordered the spaghetti with sausage and I'm pretty disappointed. Claro's was so fun! They have almost anything you'd need (I think)! The market was full of imported products. They had a deli and cookie bakery. And a sandwich/deli station. So cute. I visited Claro's in Covina last year and had no idea they had multiple chains. Of course I grabbed a meatball sub, split it, along with a half pint of potato salad and seafood pasta salad. Customer service! Lack of attention to detail! Treat your customer with dignity, don't disregard me. I have been coming to Claro's for years. I'm Italian and raised Italian. Always order for large parties, meetings etc. Last couple of times have been ok, not great or good, ok. But this past Sunday, the worst and probably the last time I order any type of pasta dishes again. I ordered rigatoni with the four cheeses, and asked if I could get some cheese on the side I ordered the baked ziti, half with no cheese or mozzarella because I have some lactose intolerant folks and the other half with the ricotta/mozzarella. Something that they've done in the past for me. And two trays of meatballs. First of all, I get the order and the meatballs were not included, and I asked the gentleman he went back. He got them and when he put them in the car, the sauce was all over the bottom of the tray. Also at the cash register, it took forever to get my order paid for extra cheese and I asked where the sauce for the plain pasta was. No sauce! The lady insisted that everything was there. Sundays they close at 2, so if your order is wrong, or well it's wrong. The rigatoni was like mashed potatoes. The pasta was so overcooked and smashed. It looked like they took an old dish and put it together. For the baked ziti, how about we cook the pasta evenly. Some of it was burnt. Some of it wasn't cooked. Some of it had no sauce and remember they didn't put any sauce on the side. Don't was poorly cooked and put in the tray! Looked awful, tastes dry, stuck together, uneven cooking and the worst, it was hard! To top it off the gentleman who put the meatballs in the car, spilled the sauce all over the bottom of the box. So I called. I left a message and then I left a message again yesterday. It's Tuesday, no one's called me back. Sad to say, the lack of customer attention and Services beyond words. I kept the pasta so that I could give it back to them and they can eat it. They could let me know if that's traditional Italian food It looked horrible and tasted even worse The good thing is the meatballs were good and I made a side salad. The quality has definitely gone down. Knowing how to cook your pasta and properly gauge the heat so that it's not over overcooked is extremely considerable. Especially when making any type of a baked dish, you never wanna overcook your pasta. And how could you not add a little oil and Add sauce! Really! Shocked beyond words! It would have been nice to speak to someone. But I guess they're very busy. Too many bosses, some arrogant, some clueless and some should not be working there. It's things like this that really don't make it Italian, since most Italians take pride in their cooking. And always cook to perfection. I've been to Claros before but only to look around and see what they have. This is my first time ordering cooked food. We arrived around 5pm, therefore they were about to close and clean up. We quickly ordered their traditional favorite Great Grandpa Joe and a pound of pepper and sausages. While waiting, we looked around and there are so many selections from baked goods to deli. Most of the cookies were 16.99/pound. I was eyeing their tin box which you can get a discount 2$ off a pound if you bring it back for a refill. The sausages were delicious! Claro's has a nice selection of some of the best authentic pasta sauce that I love incorporating into my vegetarian lasagna. Ingredients in the pasta sauce. Tomato and basil. That's it. And it tastes incredible and worth the $10 for a big jar. I know it's cheaper to make it yourself, but I can't even make salsa so I will hold off on making my own pasta sauce for now. We love Claro's! It's a great Italian market and deli. There are many specialty italian pantry items: imported pasta, anchovies, chestnut flour(!), cookies and candies. There is a deli case with many choices of cheese and meat that the staff can slice to order for you. The staff are all pretty helpful and friendly at the deli counter. It could get really busy on the weekend so make sure to plan enough time to get what you need. The deli counter makes great sandwiches. There are many delicious choices on the menu. But you can also tell the deli staff to make a custom one or tell them to surprise you. *pro tip: there are premade sandwiches in the refrigerator case right by the deli counter. It's whatever the staff feels like making so they can be all different. The large premade sandwich is $9.99. It's a great deal! My other favorite from Claro's is their cannoli. Claro's transports me to Italy every time I shop here. The Italian sandwiches are always on point, full of delicious meat and cheeses, and are reasonable. My friends and I have been stopping by Claro's to pick up food for the Pasadena Pops concert series at the LA Arboretum. It's so convenient and so much better than other chain sandwich options. The large sandwich can feed two and they are really accommodating when I've asked them to cut it in half and wrap separately. Claro's has everything Italian food-wise you could want and prices are reasonable! I bought a huge bag of amaretti cookies from Italy and it was a mere $6. From pasta, sauces, ingredients for homemade sauce, cookies, candies, and everything in-between, this place has it all! And the aisles and entire store is so clean and neat. The people working here are nice, helpful, and efficient. They seem to know the regulars and are overall pleasant. If you enter from the front, use the buzzer so they let you in. The back entrance next to the parking lot seems to be open. Parking is convenient, plentiful, and free! I mean it just doesn't get better than this. I wish I lived closer so I could come more often. Hot Side Lunch Plate Special: You can choose 1 meat item most of the time it's either meatballs or sausage, 1 pasta item (spaghetti and lasagna), and eggplant and Parmigiano. The bread was nice and warm and buttered. The eggplant was a little more on the mushier side. I loved that their meatball size was a little bit on the bigger side so more value for your money. Their lasagna could have their tomato sauce be a little lighter. I love tomato sauce but it felt like I was consuming more tomato than lasagna. Their sandwich breads are on the harder side.
