I always get the same 3 things when I come here: Mango chicken, pad thai or chicken nuggets. If I ever venture off that course, I am left very disappointed. However, those 3 items, they are awesome! So don't try to be different and funky and stray, stick with those 3 main courses, and yes, their scallion pancakes and sping rolls are also to die for. It's like I died and went to fake meat heaven! This is a place where you could eat so much delicious fake meat that it will help you forget--albeit temporarily--that you're dead on the inside. This is a place whose fake chicken could be your next boyfriend or girlfriend, you disgusting love-unworthy piece of filth. The Texas Fried Chicken with Tater Tots will make a depressed vegan fat girl weep from the deep fried emotional satisfaction she can gain from the dish (though there could be more balanced number of tater tots in the already huge portion of fried "chicken." If you were a crackwhore, you'd sell your ass to, well, first pay for the crack of course, but then IMMEDIATELY buy a delicious meal here. If you were thieving ingrate degenerate child, you'd steal money from your alcoholic father and toothless mother to order the chicken nuggets for take out (make sure to ask for the dipping sauce, which goes perfectly with them). The lessons in my review: 1. Delicious vegan Cantonese food with fake meat at Vegetarian Palate can be an emotional supplement for your already suicide-worthy existence. 2. Criminally yummy fake meat dishes will drive folks to cause crimes in order to eat the already criminally yummy food. 3. Though Daniel is trim with a lean, muscular body, and arguably "good looking," he still functions psychologically in various degrees like an ugly, overweight teenager with split ends and a gimpy leg. Though I didn't actually tell you a lot of "useful" information, the food is really that spectacular and though I didn't try everything on the menu, I am confident that because of their cooking techniques and based on what I did have, all the food on the extensive menu should be pretty damn good. read more

Much better than your local chinese restaurant. All the dishes here are vegetarian. Though it may be listed on the menu as chicken, turkey or beef, it's actually made of tempeh, soy chunks and texturized vegetable protein (no not yuck but TVP). I've been here over 7 times and would recommend the curry coconut chicken. It has a nice blend of spice and the TVP is a thick meaty consistency so if you're not vegetarian you will feel like your eating meat. I had miso soup which is brought to you in a huge bowl (it's filled with seaweed and is delish), also try the beef and eggplant dish, it's really good. I didn't like the roasted duck (the chef has to work on this dish it doesn't taste good at all). If possible go at lunchtime and you can spend about $12 per person (it may sound pricey but it's worth it). Plus with the lunch menu you get soup or salad and the corn chowder soup is filled with chunks of corn and is spiced nicely. The portions are huge so ask for a to go box. Now don't leave until you try the caramel, apple vegan cheesecake.....to die for. Wrap up lunch with a hot cup of ginger tea (it's for the strong hearted) and you're in heaven. read more

I was so excited to order from here the other day, but I was sorely disappointed by what I received. My friend ordered the variety spring rolls and they were all just okay. I ordered the vegetarian roast duck appetizer, which was rubbery and just didn't make much sense. I hardly ever waste food and I pretty much tossed most of it out. I ordered the corn soup which was so gelatinous it was practically jelly plus it was practically tasteless. Fake meat can be quite delicious when done right (e.g. vegetarian duck at Khao Sarn in Williamsburg = heaven), but the selections I ordered here were a terrible waste of money. This place was great. We had the Peking duck and General Tso's chicken. The "duck" was that layered tofu skin that you'll find wrapped around other things in the Chinatown restaurants - I still don't know what it is, but it was chewy and had a nice roasted flavor. This was to be folded into pancakes (tortillas) and eaten taco style - but having never had real Peking duck, I just did what I thought was right. My portion was big enough to bring some home. My dining partner loved her Tso's, especially as she usually gets tofu served in same style. The mock chicken was maybe a little more in the style of pork - that is, chewier. Still, it was great. The sauce was a little on the mild side (we pre-ordered it spicy, so they brought out chili oil at arrival), but the real kicker was the freshly toasted cashews on top. Anyone can throw nuts on a dish and up the price a buck, but these were still warm and crisp. Nice finishing touch. Our waters stayed filled, the waiters were helpful, and we were in and out within 45 minutes. It's a nice place, but they really focus more on the quality of the meal, rather than creating a romantic atmosphere. We'll definitely go back. Oh, the menu has more than just Chinese veg fare. They have Thai and Indian style dishes as well, but also a few American standards like fried fish nuggets, Texas-style chicken, mashed potatoes, smoked turkey, tater tots, and paella! * Came back for more, and the Tangerine Chicken was closer to Gen Tso's, which is awesome. The Chicken Curry was good, but extremely mild. The chili oil they bring you on request doesn't quite make up for the fact that the server recommended the curry as a spicy option. It was still very nice and enough to bring home and eat again, but yeah... Also, the Roll Sampler is pretty ok. Crispy on the outside, not dripping with oil, but a tad goey inside. I've eaten here 3 times, and each time I was just totally unimpressed. The fake meats do not taste good. Many of the dishes feature canned mushrooms and baby corn. It's expensive for what it is. The interior is pretty crappy and the servers are pushy ("what is in the 'tangerian beef'?" "OKAY ONE ORDER OF TANGERIAN BEEF" "no, no *sigh*"). I would say the only time I would go here would be if you're with someone who is a hardcore vegan and doesn't want to walk to Raw*Star. Avoid. read more

I actually really liked this place and it is more a 3.5. This place is literally down the street from my house but I have never tried it as it is well...too close! Today we were craving some vegan food and ended up here. We ordered the cold buster and ginger tea while we perused the extensive menu. We decided to order from the regular menu although the lunch menu looked pretty good too. We had the crispy chicken salad and the assortment of spring rolls. The disclaimer is that this food is by no way healthy. Just because it is vegan does not diet food make. That said it was delicious. The chicken was exactly like fried chicken milanaise and the texture was perfect. I could not believe it wasn't chicken! The spring rolls were fresh and deep fried to perfection and the fillings were all great. We then had the peking spare ribs and the chicken curry with potatoes. The Peking spare ribs were simply amazing, and again the texture is exactly like meat! The sauce with the chicken curry was excellent but the actual chicken was more like chicken thighs which aren't my favorite. We were stuffed by here, but in the name of trying everything we decided to "taste" the brownie chunk cheesecake. It came with three scoops of ice cream on the house for us to share, and we dove into a fog of coconut, pistachio and creamy cheesecake I can't believe was not dairy based! I only order their crispy nuggets for a reason. They're the freakin' bomb. Get them. Get 2 orders of them. No, get three. You won't regret it. Their salt and pepper chicken tenders are okay. My girlfriend swears by the mango chicken (I do too, they're delicious). I got their Hawaiian chicken the last time I was there. It's basically "vegan" sweet and sour chicken. Love, love, love this place! Believe the hype about the mango chicken it is really awesome. But something else that deserves some of the spotlight is their crispy chicken nuggets! For the recently vegetarian/vegan converts and all of you who may be experimenting with the doors of the vegetarian closet, the texture perfectly reflects real chicken fingers and it is REALLY crispy! I am so addicted to these things that I schlep them back to my house which is two hours away. I also had the brownie cheesecake...creamy chocolaty heaven. I've only gone here for takeout so far and have noticed that during the daytime the place looks pretty cheap, but at night the ambiance looks conducive to both casual dining as well as something a little more intimate (although, not on par with that of Wild Ginger). Yes, even vegans want some junk food now and then, and unfortunately Champ's is too far away from my house for delivery. Luckily, Vegetarian Palate has magical veg nugz that both I and my omni bf and bffs are obsessed with. Plus, I love their non-dairy milkshakes, especially the mint chip. I've also tried the "chicken" curry with potatoes, and a "beef" and vegetable dish that were both delish. I always order too much from here, but it's worth it! The only time I wasn't happy was with the crispy "chicken" sammie--too much bread and kind of flavorless. The food at this restaurant is incredible. I can be honest and say that I go here almost every week. The customer service is great and the nice Asian Man is always refreshing my lemon water. Obsessed with this place on so many levels! When I first tried their food I didn't expect it to be so good. But to start off the service was great (I ordered from home). The lady who took my order for delivery was very friendly and she gets my order right ALL THE TIME. The delivery man is fast as well. I have ordered the crispy nuggets (really filling for an appetizer) I was so full after eating just TWO and it is breaded really really yummy. I also tried the salt and pepper chicken tenders. It wasn't what I expected visually they look like a bunch of crackers in a box but once you eat them and put it in the sauce (that is also really good) I didn't care what the heck they looked like it was amazing. I never knew that fake meat could be so good. I'm all about vegetarian food, but usually stick to... vegetables. This was by far the best fake chicken & fake beef I've ever had. The teriyaki chicken is deliciously loaded with steamed veggies, but beware the orange peel in the tangerine beef - definitely not meant to be eaten. I devoured almost an entire large wonton soup, so tasty with nice fresh bok choy. The portions are beyond huge for the price... sharing is definitely the way to go. I ordered the nuggets, sesame soy chicken and boneless rib fried rice. The nuggets and fried rice were delicious but the sesame soy chicken was disappointing. The sauce was odd and made all of the vegetables taste unappetizing. I liked that the main dishes were packed and I had plenty of leftovers , but I ended up throwing away the chicken after only a few bites ,so that felt like a waste. I'll be back again because the menu is extensive and I was pleased with half of my order. It's not the easiest to find affordable vegan restaurants that deliver so I appreciate their effort. A real hit or miss. The wonton soup is unbelievable; like how I remember the real thing tasting before going vegan. All the fake meat entrees are terrible. Stick with soup and noodle dishes, and avoid all the fake meat, fried wontons, and the rolls (spring roll, curry roll, etc). Get the scallion pancakes if you're looking to get an appetizer. When people say vegetarian food is bad or they can't live without meat, they haven't found the right place. As a frequent customer, I can say without hesitation... their food is AWESOME. They have a variety of vegetarian dishes. My favorites are the mango chicken, spare ribs and Pad Thai. The dishes are flavored with the right amount of spices to make a non-vegetarian salivate. While I never had spare ribs in my life (say what?) I LOVE these vegetarian spare ribs! They are very juicy and are great with brown rice! Other dishes I've tried were the chicken nuggets, duck, spring rolls, and orange chicken. Avoid the orange chicken at all costs. I've ordered it twice and I can't stand the flavor, but besides that, so far I haven't found many dishes I don't like from here. Go wild and try something new! I really can't believe how poorly my partner and I were treated by this place. We were pretty excited to find it on seamless, as everything looked pretty amazing-- and it can be difficult finding creative vegetarian restaurants. However, this place is very deceiving. One of the dishes we ordered, claimed to be Vegetarian Eel, -- yet, what we recieved was a bunch of old, soggy cheap veggies and a couple of small black mushrooms. We figured that it must have been a mistake of some sort, as the other dish we ordered seemed ok. So, we called the restaurant -- and they were very rude and insulting to both of us, and told us that the mushrooms were the vegetarian eel, and that we didn't understand their creative ideas and had the wrong interpretation of the dish. We both work in the natural food industry, and have eaten vegetarian food for a long time, and are very familiar with creative vegetarian interpretations of meat dishes - and we make dishes like that our selves. However putting together a bunch of soon to expire carrots, peppers and celery with a few black mushrooms (that had absolutely no special preparation) does not in anyway qualify as what they claim it to be -- and is not really an acceptable dish to serve people. After a very frustrating call with the restaurant, I called seamless to leave a complaint, and get a refund, and to make things even worse -- the restaurant refused to give even a small refund back to seamless. I ended having to spend an hour on the phone with them, and eventually got a voucher for the amount of the order. Needless to say, I will never even consider going near this place again -- and I will strongly recommend that others stay away as well. --And by the way, the other dish we got (which we ended up sharing, other one was gross) -- wasn't horrible, I was able to eat it -- but even if the rest of the experience was fine -- I would never order that dish again either. So, even if most of their other food is better than the soggy veggie dish, and their staff just had a rough day -- it doesn't seem like the rest of their food is very special either! read more
