One of the BEST spots in all of Providence, hands down. Wouldn't call it a hidden gem because the people who know how great it is don't hesitate to share, but highly recommend. One of the best spots to take non-vegan / people skeptical of vegan food, I've definitely had a few friends & family members absolutely shocked that "vegan food is this good" (surprise, it's all amazing!) Get the edamame, scallion pancakes, and stir fried udon noodles for sure. read more

Veggie Fun is one of the best vegan restaraunts i've ever had the pleasure of eating it. They are curtious, respectful and professional and the service is expedient but this speed of service does not compromise the quality, taste and genius that is the food served here. I have dined in pre-covid frequently and am now ordering take out when I can as like many Covid has made it difficult to live beyond means that are not a necessity but when I can step outside of those means and treat myself. Was here Sunday evening March 19th. We we served water in glasses which tasted like cooking oil was in them. Both my fiancé and me had the same issue and told the waitress she looked at us like we were talking through our hats, we had to order bottled water. They're quote on the menu reads " We strive to deliver healthy food with great service" Neither was the service good nor the food We were in on a Sunday night and were the only couple there. We felt very unwelcome by her half hearted expressions as though we intruded on her free time. The food we ordered was not the greatest. I got the udon spicy noodles which was atrocious tasteless and nothing like Korean sauce, however the Autumn roll and the general tsos soy dish was decent. Any time this new-school vegetarian is craving old school sweet'n'sour chicken....I head to Veggie Fun. My classic order: summer rolls ($5), sweet-and-sour sesame poy protein (comes with miso soup and brown rice; $14), banana spring rolls ($6) - Delicious meal that (theoretically) feeds two for $25 + tax and tip. Other favorites: scallion pancakes, curry samosa, tempura vegetables, BBQ seitan, mango soy protein, udon noodle soup. It takes my palette back to the good'ol days, but it isn't my number-one in PVD when we go out. Get the take out. Put on classic Netflix. Enjoy a night with your fuzzy jamjams and your favorite (except veg-friendly) throw-back food. read more

Veggie Fun's vegan spare ribs and vegan General Tso's chicken need to be ordered by every Vegan, vegeterian, and/or plant-based person who grew up eating a lot of meat. Even my wife who grew up traveling to Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Seoul multiple times a year and who is a proud "flexeterian" (she eats steak occasionally) cannot tell the difference. Many times during our meal we inspected the seitan swearing it was real pork ribs or chicken. It was soooo good! Admittedly, she ordered an extra set of seitan spare ribs so that she can mix it in with her congee (rice porridge) during the work week. Again, it really is that good. I should add that beyond their mastery of seitan, their Kung Poa Eggplant is an amazing and wholesome Vegan takeout meal. We would both go there again for this main dish alone. This restaurant is a real treasure. We are new to Providence and this place, along with Plant City could really put Providence on the map for Vegan food! You have to go here! read more

What a wonderful delivery experience! I wasn't sure what to expect, given we were spending the day in Providence, so we decided to give it a try. Glad we did! Veggie Fun is utterly delicious. First off, it's Pan-Asian food that I can almost convince myself is good for me- it's vegetarian, comes with brown rice, and doesn't go too heavy on the oils. This place delivers, which is perfect when you consider the fact that they're located smack dab in the middle of Downcity. Watch out, though, as there's a $20 minimum for delivery. This isn't the place to order from when you're having dinner for one. Additionally, its only downside is that it's a little pricey. Still, on those nights I'm feeling especially lazy, Veggie Fun is my go-to delivery restaurant because the food is just that flavorful. The kung pao eggplant is out of this world, though I might be biased because of my love for black bean sauce. Udon noodles are a little more mild, but might be a better choice for someone who tends to stay away from spice (I know it's supposedly in their genetics, but I maintain that such people are crazy). I mean, really, can you pass up a place with good food, quick delivery, and "fun" in the name? read more

For a vegetarian place, there is a lot of "meat" on the menu here :) As Jim Gaffigan says, "You know who's really obsessed with meat? Vegetarians." I'm not a "true" vegetarian, but I haven't eaten beef in 10 years so obviously I was curious to try the "vegan orange beef." I was not disappointed, crispy* pieces of some sort of seitan/vital wheat gluten/whatever-it-was-delicious in a sweet* tangy sauce, over perfectly steamed broccoli and a small bowl of nice brown rice. * = don't think this is still teeeccchnically healthy. Also the sauce was a bit thicker/stickier than it should have been, then again maybe some people prefer that. Obviously there are things on the menu, such as the macro bowl, that are healthier than others, and overall this was certainly head and shoulders above the nutritional content and freshness of many restaurants. I did not find the portion size too small, I had enough leftover for a small-ish lunch today, but with some of the pricing I can see how some people might have expected a bigger plate. The music selection I can only describe as midi versions of carousel music. I'm on the fence about that. read more

SO excited for another Providence vegan-friendly restaurant. Recommended by my favorite purple vegan ice cream truck, this is a welcome edition to the Veg scene. They do have dairy in a few dishes (apparently veggie ducks are made of whey) but 99% vegan and 100% vegetarian! And the food lives up! Sampler roll platter was a good way to start - 3 different kinds of egg rolls and spring rolls with plum sauce and an entire dip devoted to sriracha (heart). Licked fingers shamelessly. And then those three words that had never before entered my veg vocabulary: Bi Bim Bap. Now the taste will never leave my lips. Kourageous kimchi, amazing avocado, and all the rest of the puzzle pieces that make it the perfect vegetarian dish, almost replacing Bee Boong in my last-meal-on-earth. Now, not all the fake meats are for starter vegetarians - but they are well done enough that even the most cautious diner could find a way to finish the whole plate. It's really more about the sauces. My only gripe - the soups: free with the meal but salty as a lick. And pumpkin is only good in pie or carved on my porch. For the drinkers, there are some tasty teas, but BYOB for most other bevvies. Which means even cheaper dates, dudes. And the staff is very attentive, multiple servers attending to our every needs. Definitely earnest. The decor is unexpected: more dark and brooding than the name lets on. Or perhaps its so shocking compared to the surrounding lackluster streets on the edge of downtown. I had lots of fun here with my friends, but that was overwhelmingly because my friends are great and not much to do with the restaurant. 1. Flavor of the food: Hit or miss. If you're just looking for greasy Chinese food, some of the dishes will hit the spot. I think there's a pretty low bar for fried ice cream, spring rolls, etc. We ordered a bunch of that stuff and it was definitely deep fried, check. I also kind of like their seitan, it's a little sweet and it's spiced with some stuff that tastes like maybe anise or fennel. Not a flavor everyone will appreciate, but I thought it was interesting. However, we also ordered some dishes that were a bizarre take on what they were supposed to be, to say the least. The curry samosas appetizer was just these tiny, super greasy little filo packets with some excessively sugary mush inside. If you envision the samosas you would get at an Indian restaurant, like I was, you are in for a very unpleasant surprise. The bibimbap bowl was just a random assortment of stuff that doesn't go together. The seitan hashbrowns were... store-bought freezer hashbrowns?? with little seitan slices sandwiched between them? Super weird. 2. Food quality/as advertised: Well this is hilarious, both the menu and the website have this blurb about eating healthy. By no stretch of the imagination is any of this food close to healthy. Also, it's obvious that they're using a lot of low quality processed ingredients: the citrus tofu was overwhelmed by what was obviously a frozen veggie mix of peas and carrots, the summer rolls, fried bananas and samosas all seemed to just be few low quality ingredients precariously wrapped in one or two layers of filo dough. 3. Service: Comically terrible. I don't know if we were just there on a really off night when half the wait staff called out sick or something, but wow, just wow. Random dishes arrived at random times; we ordered appetizers and entrees. We got half the soups that came with our entrees, then one entree, then nothing for a long time. Then a random cross-section of the entrees and apps. Then, at random times, one-by-one the rest of the stuff we ordered except for one appetizer which we assumed they had forgotten. Then a really long lull when all of us finished eating and had long run out of water and drinks and no one would make eye contact with us. Then finally, the last appetizer. We all ordered desserts, they delivered just one and then ignored us for another long lull before bringing a couple more. The last one again came after the rest of us were done eating. Each time they would bring something, they kind of slammed it down on random spots on the table without asking who ordered it, then rushed off so we couldn't ask for anything else. Sometimes they'd deliver food while carrying dirty/empty dishes from other customers in the same hand. I got up at one point to use the bathroom, and had to jump out of the way to avoid getting mowed down by servers both on the way to the bathroom and back. So anyway, interesting night. read more

These people managed to impress me mightily from beginning to end. Somehow every item had about 50% more flavor than I expected. We started with curry samosas which were smaller and flakier than the typical Indian version, but highly satisfying, especially with the mint chutney. My entree was moo-shu, the moisture of which overwhelmed the pancakes but hit another home run flavor-wise. Dessert was an intriguingly jazzed-up brown rice pudding with raisins, pineapple, and almonds. Even the iced mint tea was refreshingly perfect for the warm early-autumn afternoon. read more

I know there are a lot of 'protein' options, but if you're a vegan, who doesn't eat sugar, gluten, or grains, the pickings are slim. The "mixed green" avocado salad was basically iceberg lettuce with a few 'greens' tossed in for color, and there wasn't enough dressing to cover the salad. The girls also seemed a little stressed and overworked. On a good note, there was a nice serving of avocado and the sesame seeds were a nice touch. Maybe try adding some true mixed greens, spring mix, buttercrunch, etc., maybe some sprouts, and some flax and hemp seeds to the sesame, and providing enough dressing to cover it all. If they upgrade their menu with more options for those of us on really strict vegan and grain-free diets, I might try them again. read more

When I yelp strictly veggie places I have to make sure I am not giving them great reviews simply because I can close my eyes, point to something on the menu and eat it. I have a bad habit of going to mediocre vegetarian places and spending money, simply because I want there to be lots of veggie options out there. Veggie Fun is a great restaurant.... That has a few kinks.... The food is great and they offer a lot of options when it comes to meat substitutes. I also love that they are kosher, straight down to kosher wine options! They offer brown rice with the meal and it is much better than the rice they have at other Asian restaurants in the area. Some personal favorite items would be: seitan skewers, grilled eggplant, orange seitan, basil soy protein, mint lemon aid. So why not a five star review? On a few separate occasions I have been here and it's been super chilly, to the point that everyone at the table got hot tea to keep their hands warm. The waitstaff is really unable to talk about the differences between dishes because there is a language barrier. Once my date ordered a cocktail off their drink list and no one who worked there had a clue as to how to make it. The decor is ok, but there are cheesy elements: the decorative "Mexican" plates with clearly visible ripped off price tags on them, Corona bottles that have been blown into weird shapes. Let's end this with lovely things: there is always parking nearby, the wine is tastey and they are open on American/Christian holidays when every other place in town is closed. read more

I wish I could come here everyday, but I was just passing through town. There are so many things on the menu that I wanted to try. The servers are all pleasant, helpful, knowledgable about ingredients and are usually able to grant substitution requests (if you want soft tofu instead of fried tofu in a dish, for example). We ordered a Kim Chee appetizer, shared a soup and shared the steamed veggie platter with a side of dipping sauce. I loved the steamed lotus root in the main dish! Everything was fresh and delicious and came out quickly. They were unobtrusive and we comfortably stayed there and chatted for a while after we finished eating. Since I cut out meat I have been searching high and low for great places to eat that could cater to my new diet. I moved to Providence just a couple of months ago and this was the first place I had tried in lieu of going out to eat. Immediately I had no doubt in my mind that Veggie Fun would become my favorite restaurant. From the Freud quote across the front door to the calm atmosphere inside, Veggie Fun not only offers great food but an awesome dining experience. I have been here more times in the last 2 months than I would like to admit (okay so maybe I have a bit of an addictive personality when it comes to places I like...) but each time I have had something different and I have yet to be disappointed. From appetizers to deserts, there hasn't been anything thus far that I haven't completely enjoyed and then craved the following day (thank goodness too, since their portions are quite generous and I almost always end up with leftovers for lunch afterward.) To preface what I am about to say, keep this in mind: I am a vegetarian who is not fond of tofu and a food fan who does not enjoy salt. However I was really craving soup and decided to go with the Miso Soup when I ordered my entree. I was a little nervous at first as Miso Soup tends to be over-salted and of course contains tofu which is always a hit-or-miss for me, but this was by far the most perfectly balanced Miso Soup I have ever had. No need for an entire pitcher of water and no need to scoop around the tofu. Everything was perfectly prepared and perfectly measured. Depending on your financial standpoint, their prices may be a bit moderate but they are by no means overpriced. The food here is worth every penny. As for those of you who are wondering how their food carries over to the next day - I'm not one for leftovers. Ever. They usually end up in my refrigerator until they hit their week's marker and then get tossed (leaving me feeling morally AND financially guilty.. yuck!) but the food from Veggie Fun is perfect leftover food (as long as it's heated correctly). The crunch of some of the food does not carry, but that's the same with most leftovers, but the flavor is still there and so far I have yet to get anything that becomes un-edible with a reheat. I would recommend this place to anyone - meatless or meat loving. This is a must-try when visiting Providence, and if you live here you have no excuse not to. read more

We stumbled across Veggie Fun one evening when we needed a good healthy meal without a wait. The ambiance is great inside the restaurant. it was also 3/4 full and the noise level was very low. The wait staff were courteous and very quick to give take our drink order and watchful enough to know when we were ready to order our supper. We split the spring rolls and the tofu pad thai. I also ordered a miso soup. -The spring rolls were the size of your thumb and very tasty. They do not fill you up or ruin your appetite for the other food you may have coming. However, beware that they are small so if you are expecting to only have these you might be left wanting. -The miso soup was great. I am not sure how you really make miso much different than most other miso you order at other places.....but it just had a quality to it. The taste was very present but not dominant. It almost border-lined as more of a feeling when you took a spoonful rather than tasting something. They place fresh mushrooms in the soup which was a wonderful addition. -The pad thai was also good but interesting. Since it was a vegetarian version they had to make up for the lost flavor of the fish/oyster sauces. The pad thai had a tangy and slightly spicy kick. It tasted good but if you don't like spice or aren't expecting it, this detail could influence your opinion of the meal. The serving size was plenty for two people Prices were reasonable. read more

Ate here tonight with my wife: Ambiance: Cold, dark, small, very high ceiling--making the place not feel cozy. We were there at 5pm, and not one cusomer in the house. Service: Polite and fast. Food: Portions were ok, but the prices were a little high in relation to the typical portions you get at other asian restaurants. My wife had the Pad Thai with Tofu. It was good. The difference between what we got here and how we've had it at other places, is that here the Pad Thai was a little drier (a good thing for us, as we don't like greasy dishes). And the dish was tastey. I had the Duck--but not the real thing, of course!!! It was actually vegetarian, and made of Seitan wheat. The texture was that of duck, and so was the taste. With this dish you get a small free bowl of Miso Soup, and a tiny bowl of brown rice. This dish was good, but could have had more variety of vegetables in a dish that had nothing but the Seitan and sauce. Conclusion: 1) Portions were small 2) Food was tasty 3) Price was high considering portions. 4) The dish I had could have had more variety of vegetables. 5) The ambiance was not very inviting. read more

I believe I can add two tidbits to the reviews for this restaurant. 1. I'm not a vegan or vegetarian, yet I still crave the General Tso's from here (so much so that I might start actively making friends with more vegetarians just to have an excuse to go here more often). 2. One rainy, windy afternoon last month while chilling at my parents' place in South Providence, a menu for Veggie Fun found its way in their mailbox. Excited and a little confused that they actually delivered to our neck-of-the-woods, I hopped online and ordered a few goodies for myself, opting for the pepper "beef" with chinese broccoli lunch combo as well as a thai iced tea and deep fried taro as an app. Their online ordering is pretty darn handy, however I gotta admit.. the $15 minimum plus delivery fees is a wee bit ridiculous. Since their lunch combos are generally around $8, my total for a single lunch after fees, tax and needing to order a couple extra items, came out to a little over $22. Way too expensive unless ordering for two people. Delivery was super quick and the food neatly packaged. The containers everything came in were pretty nifty: ore-portioned compartments! Lunch combos come with miso soup and a spring roll aside from the obligatory brown rice. While the peppered "beef" with veggies was entirely AMAZING (I could have pretty much eaten a truckload) the miso soup was... mediocre at best. While I realize the vegan nature of their take on the classic definitely doesn't include bonito, the flavour was..weak. Any miso soup I've ever had in the past (everything from wet packets, to powdered, sushi restaurants, etc), no matter how mediocre, was full of well balanced tastes with a slight hint of saltiness. Their soup was pretty much the equivalent of hot water with a faint miso taste. Sadly I couldn't actually finish it which is the first for me. The spring roll was actually mighty tasty.. but alas, it was about the size of one of those frozen pizza rolls. Ladies, we're talkin tiny, like a blip on the food radar. After opening the container I actually had to do a double take, like "whaaaaaat?!" I have to wonder what exactly the point was (food tease). The proportion of rice was also very, very small. Another confusion since rice is like, a total filler when the rest of the food doesn't measure up. The deep fried taro was amazing.. BUT.. the portion was still a bit on the small side for the price ($6). Crispy and delicious, I'd probably still order this again unless I find it elsewhere. Lastly, the thai iced tea was pretty much a disappointment. Having nothing to do with the fact that it's vegan, the very reason I adore thai iced tea is because of the immensely strong and bold taste of the brewed tea. Once again, much like the miso soup, it was weak, like the tea hadn't been seeped long enough. Overall my experience was a mixed bag. While the entree itself was absolutely delicious, the poorly proportioned sizes and weak extras were a total let down. It also didn't help that the pricing was a little absurd. I'd definitely try them again in the future but I'd skip the sides and just order the entree itself. read more

I had the opportunity to check out Veggie Fun for a friends birthday dinner on a Saturday night. There were 14 of us and of course a reservation was made for 8 p.m. but we all realized upon arrival that we obviously didn't really need one because the place was practically empty. Our waitress(es) were fairly prompt, somewhat friendly but hard to get information out of. Now, I'm not sure if this was due to the language barrier and the questions being asked but it seemed like she really had no interest in talking to us about anything other than what was on the menu. We also felt rushed on a few occasions when we were asked if we wanted our check prior to having even served cake (which we brought) to the birthday boy. I found it odd. I couldn't tell you what everyone ordered but I feel like it was a good mix of the menu all around and at the end of dinner most all plates were empty. I decided on the cold noodles which I understand sounds dull and boring, in fact I was being made fun of, however; it was quite delicious. I wish it hadn't been SO cold, maybe more like room temperature would've been better. The ambiance is just ok, it's nothing special and the floor set up doesn't help. We were put at a very long table (which I think was about 4 or 5 tables put together) but we were shoved between the doorway and a wall, so it was very tight and awkward making it hard to see and converse with everyone. I'm not sure I'd go back to Veggie Fun to dine but I may order take-out. I wouldn't suggest this place for big parties. read more

Tasty vegetarian and vegan food - definitely worth checking out if you can go without meat for a meal. Die-hard meat lovers will be disappointed if they expect the entrees that are made to mimic meat to actually taste like it (it never does, through no particular fault of Veggie Fun). As a gluten free diner I was not impressed with our server's knowledge about allergens or the presentation of allergen free options. Rather than symbols on the main menu, or a separate allergen information menu, I was provided with a take-out menu and a laminated list of which numbers of the takeout menu could be made gluten free. It wasn't clear whether the dishes needed to be altered to be gluten free (the servers do in fact need to tell the chefs to alter them, so make sure they know that - ours didn't). The dishes that I ended up with were quite satisfying. The hot and sour soup was incredible, and the pad thai was quite good. They also have a wide array of fancy cocktails, which is always a plus. read more

My friend has recently became a vegetarian, therefore his options eating in Providence have greatly been reduced to the salad bar or Sushi (he's a fake vegetarian). With that said, he brought us here to try out the Asian style vegetarian/vegan fun dishes. Verdict: Excellent job recreating great dishes drowning in sauce to compensate for the lack of meat flavored meaty-ness. They get the textures down pretty well and the presentation is nice (although I wish they would heat up their plates before serving so the food doesn't get cold). I got the teriyaki duck, which was awesome. The General tso's I tried was also quite lovely with the spicy kick. As a side note: For those vegetarians that really like to eat here because they get to eat food resembling meat-filled awesome chinese/japanese/korean style without the guilt of killing animals: No matter how much it tastes SIMILAR TO meat, it will not satisfy your pre-programmed natural tendency towards murder. The food was excellent...really. We ordered the summer rolls and crispy chicken nuggets as the appetizer and they were both great. The sauce that came with the chicken was honey-like and complimented the fried perfection very well. For entrees, my husband and I split both the mu shu pork and the sweet and sour chicken and both tasted exactly like the real thing (which is pretty important to my husband). The veggies on both dishes were fresh and cooked perfectly (broccoli and cauliflower were still crisp but tender) and the pineapple was freshly cut on the sweet and sour plate. The "pork" was somewhat of a "Tofurky" texture and taste, but the chicken was indescribable (TVP or seitan) but amazingly delish. The downside: there was one waitress on and she was overwhelmed with 4 tables (one table was her family or friends). Our food came out at weird times (one appetizer, then the other app with our salads (which I forgot to mention was iceberg lettuce with cucumber and ginger dressing). We sat in a booth next to the bar - on which was a laptop with a (20+ inch screen) cartoon movie playing and kids toys and sneakers on the floor at the bottom of the stool. The bar was not yet set up and contained tupperware pitchers filled with tea (the only beverage selection) - that put me off a bit. All in all the experience was nice, the location is great (except for the parking) and I hope that they do well and work out the kinks because it's a great concept - every other major city has a great vegan asian restaurant and it's about time we do too! I've been a vegetarian longer than I was a meat-eater, but I never really seek out the fake meat. Aside from veggie burgers that maybe taste like beef, I prefer to just focus on veggies and carbs and call it good. So I was surprised how much I enjoyed my General Tso's 'chicken' from Veggie Fun. Maybe it's just because it's always thrilling to look at a menu and know that I can order anything on it, but my first foray into fake meat eating was a wee bit exciting. The restaurant itself is really cute as well. We sat in a comfy booth, and the service was pretty good. My only complaint about the service was the fact that instead of just filling our water glasses, they kept asking if we wanted more water and then filling them. We were having a lovely conversation, so the interruptions got annoying after a while. It was a bit more expensive than I expected, and the portions weren't very big, but I still went home with a few leftovers. I wouldn't make the mistake of thinking that because this is vegetarian food that it's healthy by default--my fake chicken was really fried, but it was still a tasty meal. First visit on a Monday at 5:15. A few customers but not busy. Staff was great. Environment was very nice. Upscale, quiet, subdued lighting, dark wood, with nice acoustic music playing. Good selection of teas and beverages, including wine. Ordered Curry Samosa appetizer. Excellent flavor, though not as large or as much filling as typical Indian samosa and a little more oily. Main course of Malaysian Curry Stew with brown rice. Served on a plate (vs a bowl) but a good sized serving that was well cooked and very flavorful. Update Ive tried other things on the menu and this place is the best. Autumn rolls are AMAZING Hot and sour soup AMAZING Noodle pho like soup- AMAZING And they will put in rice noodles so things can be gluten free read more

Oh boy do I love when new vegan/vegetarian restaurants pop up. Even though I am a meat eater I enjoy some fake meat on occasions. Kosher vegan/vegetarian is something very hard to come by. I am going to skip the decor and just go straight to the food. Since it was our first time here we ordered 4 main dishes (the prices for a main dish range from $9-$14) 1. Peking duck 2. Mango chicken 3. orange beef 4. I actually can't remember the last main item. (sorry) The dishes came with miso soup and a salad. The miso soup was flavorful and the orange ginger dressing on the salad was tasty. The duck itself was pretty good for fake duck. the wrappers that it was suppose to go in seemed like they should have been cooked. They tasted raw. They were chewy and tough. The mango chicken would have been much better if it wasn't cold and the mangoes were more ripe. (I am still not sure if they meant for it to be cold or they just don't plan their plating time well) The orange beef was crispy and hot. I enjoyed it. The dessert sundae was pretty good. The soy ice cream was actually one of the best soy ice creams I have come across. The mango on top was a nice touch. It was a little ruined when they out the rainbow sprinkles on it. My mother had the brown rice pudding which I had a couple scoops of. It was warm and creamy. Who knew vegan rice pudding could be so good. (hint: it is not like typical rice pudding) This place will get another chance. I will just ask for my food extra hot. P.S the place is a little chilly inside so bring a jacket read more
