Our garage door opener finally called it quits after 2 decades and needed to find a company or person to install a new opener. Joel was quick to respond to my Yelp messages and text messages. He was nothing but cordial and respectful throughout the entire process. There was a little hiccup with the power outlet being out of each for the opener (not his fault) and he was kind enough to wait for me to make a run to Home Depot to grab an extension cord. Our garage door wouldn't open, which I gotta say is super inconvenient. We tried to troubleshoot the problem ourselves because times are hard and we're even trying to save a buck. Anyway I reached out on yelp and Joel was the first to respond, He came quickly and immediately recognized our motor was dead. He offered to replace right then and there. They worked quickly and cleaned up after themselves. (Early side note: I would Highly recommend them.) There was a misunderstanding, I thought he said $48 for the replace and I was in disbelief so I said, are you sure!?! I never had to replace a garage motor so what did I know! But it was really $485 for the Genie motor replace & labor. (with tax its $528.45) Suffice it to say I was shocked by the price so afterwards I did call around and that was a reasonable price. This is a long overdue review of Velascos Garage Doors. It was a pleasure to work with Joel. When I first did my research on Yelp, he had five stars across the board, and that was why I went with him. Joel was communicative on phone calls and texts. He is also a super nice guy to deal with, and he did a great job installing a new garage door with all new parts. I thought his price was reasonable, and he showed up as scheduled. When I discovered a small dent on the edge of one of the panels (all new and wrapped when unloaded), I pointed out the dent to Joel, and he promised to return with a new panel. It took longer to receive the new panel than expected from the manufacturer. While I waited, I got worried that Joel might not come through, but he did. He assuaged my concerns, installed the new panel, and all was good. I am glad I went with Joel because he was trustworthy and provided great customer service. Our garage door motor/gear broke, causing our garage to be unable to open/close. I reached out to a series of garage repairmen for quotes. Joel was super responsive and gave the most reasonable quote out of all repairmen to replace my motor. However, I wanted to replace just our gear piece. A couple places quoted lower pricing to just replace the broken part, so I decided to go with them. Unfortunately, when it came time to perform the repair, they end up telling me they do not have the parts. This led me to reach out to Joel once again since he gave the most reasonable price. At this point it was 5pm in the afternoon. Joel tells me he can make it to my place in an hour. Lo and behold, I hear Joel knocking on my door at 6pm. He ends up figuring out the issue and replacing my entire garage motor and getting my garage to operate like it's brand new in under an hour and a half. And it only took that long because Joel had to run out and get some extra parts, otherwise it probably would have been done in under an hour. Highly recommend Joel for garage motor replacements. While very responsive with when I called each time to get my garage door repaired, they never really fixed the problem, actually made the problem worse after the new repair guy pointed it out. I initially had them come out to repair a garage door that was getting stuck with the wires and they ended up untangling the wires and replaced the spring for the garage door. They wouldn't warranty the labor, only the parts so they had to come out another 2 times and didn't fix the real issue and charged me another 2 times to come out and service the door. (totaling $450). When I had another garage door repairman come out and look at the job, they said that the spring that Velasco replaced on my door was too large which created too much tension for my door as my garage door is too light for that type of spring. When I had called and asked for a refund on the last call I had called them out there for since they didn't fix the issue, Velasco said they'd refund me the labor sans the gas, which they felt was just $45? All in all our experience wasn't great, they couldn't warranty the work, never fixed the issue (probably made it worse), and resulted in 2 additional calls. Went with another company that actually warrantied the work, and replaced the spring with one that was appropriate for my garage door. read more

The other company easily identified what the issue was and confirmed that Velascos used the wrong parts which kept causing the garage door to malfunction. They were 45 minutes late, charged $200 cash to but the wheel back on the rail, 5 minute job. My normal repair person wasn't available that this would be a $100 job. Owner didn't tell me he was on vacation until they were 20 minutes late.
